Sought & Found: Did you visit J.Creaw this {past} Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopped by a J.Crew store this past weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store was/ is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

  1. Came back from my vacation (to Japan and Korea, was super awesome :)) and walked into JCrew and almost immediately walked out. That little time away gave me a lot of clarity, as well as a lot of fashion inspiration.

JCrew is just a fail for me now. I've liked the brand for a decade. I've been under their target demographic age, still probably am, but I loved the brand anyway. Unfortunately, they just don't do anything well. They aren't fashion forward enough to really appeal to my edgier self, the way brands like All Saints do. They aren't quality enough (read: at all) for me to feel like it's worth investing in nice basics like cashmere sweaters or button downs. I have had so many sweaters pill on the first wear. They aren't cheap enough for me to take the risk or wear it for a season, like Abercrombie. And they aren't true enough to their own style to even respect what they are putting together. It's just a hodge of over priced items I could find at any fast fashion store. TBH they are fast fashion, almost every sweater I touched was some sort of nylon/acrylic blend.

I think I might actually be done with JCrew. They've got nothing to offer me outside of the suiting, which I only update every few years.

    1. Hi Jessica, welcome back! I hear a lot of your points - with the 30% + 10% promo yesterday I felt like I should buy something because it was the best promo we've had in weeks...but nothing appealed to me.

The Wednesday other retailers thread has been pretty busy lately as some JCA's seem to be spending more time looking elsewhere.

    2. Your analysis is unfortunately spot on. I'm not ready to give up on JC but am truly disappointed. I started shopping J Crew because they had great colors I couldn't find elsewhere, as well as 100% merino wool and cotton items that were well made for a descent price. I don't want to shop at fast fashion places, but can't afford ultra high end, so it was a good middle road. Unfortunately the colors are gone, they are not fashion forward enough for me and the quality is suffering. (it is suffering at many places though). I'm a huge Anthropologie fan, but they have gone off the cliff lately. Just shopping my closet which is fine.

    3. Love your points, Jessica. I’m one of the long-term JCAs that SL mentioned is shopping elsewhere more and more. It’s hard because if one is J Crew-obsessed and really attached to the brand, and hasnt had the “distance” and perspective your trip gave you, you don’t really evaluate it objectively.

I’ve overheard casual J Crew shoppers compare their offerings to F21. I never thought that would happen but here we are.

    4. Agree with all points. My last straw was the latest release that had all the sweaters cut with acrylic. I can buy that at F21 if I was interested. The value is not there any more or the quality. I saw a lot of people were excited about the promo yesterday but there was honestly nothing I wanted to buy. In the last month I purchased more from other retailers than I have in a long time. I have looked to Brooks Brothers, Banana and Lands end. Considering jeans and shoes from Everlane as my next purchase. I check the JC website now leisurely instead of obsessively every morning and that is just fine. I am ok with mostly shopping my closet and not adding much. I had hope that JC would find its way back but that hope has left the building.

    5. To be sure J Crew has struggled and they haven't been able to solve the problem they've been working on for too long. The challenges for J Crew aren't necessarily unique to them; other brands that I like i.e. Vince have also suffered because of quality and style. I continue to find quality items that work well with my style and budget. I still purchase cashmere and the items I've selected haven't had pilling issues. I own about 20 cashmere items and I've had issues with 2 over 4 years. I mostly stay away from the acrylic blend or dream blend because I know it will pill (that's not unique to J Crew); one issue is J Crew charging a price that is comparable with 100% merino wool (I'm looking at you cosmic cardigan). I wish J Crew would just stick to natural fibers. For example, they've shown they can price quality silk at a really good price point (i.e. 2011 Blythe shirt; more of this please). I also continue to find prints that wear well and are versatile with basics like the Harlow cardigan. I've always shopped other brands so there's a definite mix in my closet; however, I'm buying about 75% J Crew because the brand still works well for me. I'm constantly asked where I purchased something and I'm happy to share it's J Crew. I shopped the 25 Hours promo before 12 pm and was able to pick up gifts, a few new arrivals (turtleneck tunic sweatshirt tunic in blush, mini cluster earrings, Cambridge cable sweater dress) and some sale items. Really good pricing with promo and stackable educator discount. I've bought J Crew for my family the last 3 years and they've loved everything. I'm looking forward to what's in store for holiday. I'm sure there will be

    7. Last week I sent an email expressing my disappointment with mercantile items on the site as well as other points about the offerings (ie lack of colour, lack of prints etc) I think it would be good for jcas to send in their thoughts. I received a nice email back encouraging me to send more thoughts so who knows perhaps they will listen.

    8. hi . just sent an email. if we all send one I bet they will take factory (mercantile) off retail sale site. as it is not on sale it shouldn't be there anyway!!!

    10. Agree so much! I posted this a few weeks ago. This is the JC I miss. Now the models look, well, not like models I want to see.

  3. Yesterday was finally a good promo, but the two items I wanted were no longer available in my size. So no purchases. I'm sure they will be back on the website soon, but without promo no thanks. I don't have time for this JCrew, just have 30% off sale for a week or so.

    1. Not that great considering we had that 30+10% off Sat/early Sunday. And if you bookmarked the early access link, most of the new arrivals not yet released were included in that 25hours promo

    2. I seem to have been dropped from the cardholder list - although their ability to send bills hasn’t been affected. Could someone post the link? TIA!

    9. Suz I posted link above. I have shared the code with another JCAs, who had been requesting it earlier. Not missing much.

    10. I’m hopeful a few more items will be released that wasn’t in this early access link.

And mine was a random email. I never received those early access emails..

    11. I saw the link, thanks. Nothing I really need now.

    12. I saw most of these last night while I was perusing, trying to make use of the good promo. Didn't bite. The only thing I stumbled upon that was quite pretty were the embroidered mary jane flats, which would match an Anthro dress I have perfectly. But $158 for satin (read: easily dirtied) shoes, even with 30% off was not worth it. I can get fabric shoes for less than $100 at Zara.

    13. I didn't get an email and no visit this weekend. I did place an order yesterday morning with the 30% +10% but not much - a few pieces of jewelry and the dark green drapey wrap top and the wide leg matte crepe pant from the new rollout. Stopping in Wednesday to make a few returns and I'll see if anything catches my eye.

Does anyone know if there's a women's Stewart plaid tartan button down in this year's rollout? I am hoping to replace my older ones that don't fit anymore. Fingers crossed, no luck on the secondary market yet but only recently started keeping an eye out.

    14. Yeah, I get these VIP emails and I am not a cardholder. My emails don't mention being a cardholder though, just that I am a VIP.

    15. Anne, do you mean the ones that come in dark green and black? You know I love that sihouette which made me remember my Caldwell trousers from Madewell which, as I posted below, are coming apart after one wear. I noticed the JCrew crepe pants are also elastic waist so I'm not sure I'll love but I might try as a replacement, otherwise I might try the Everlane ones.

      Delete
    16. Suz, yes, those are the ones I'm talking about - we'll see how the elastic waist does as I usually like a belt with a wider leg pant and I'd probably prefer a more tailored look but I wasn't sure my store would get these. I ordered a size down due to the cut, will report back :)

    17. @Anne, re: Stewart plaid shirt, I just searched the website and I see it in tall and petite so far. I'm guessing it will be online tomorrow. HTH

    18. jan, thank you! I was searching tartan, not plaid. I see it this morning!

  5. Did you guys receive an email from MADEWELL? Asking how they’re doing with their newly released merchandise.

I will most likely give a positive feedback with one negative thing to say; the use of acrylic/poly items.

I wish J.Crew would ask it’s customers, too.

    1. If you could add the length of their tops...not everyone loves the cropped top trend. Thank you :)

      Delete
    2. I feel like Madewell has a target audience and style, so I think that is too be expected...the shorter lengths on certain items.

      Delete
    3. Yes, agreed. I find Madewell kind of young although I love certain items. I didn't get the email but readi that inspired me to write about a quality issue. I purchased the Caldwell pull on trousers last winter and wore them once. The hem unraveled completely and the elastic waistband is coming apart. It's too bad because these pants are great for travel but I need to spend about $30 or so on repairs in order to wear them. I'm thinking about just using hemming tape (they're super wide leg) but I'm not sure how the poly blend will handle that.

      Delete
    4. And yes on the poly acrylic blends. One of the sweaters I got last year, which is super soft and cozy, gets totally misshapen with wear. It's become one of those I don't even care what if looks like sweaters but that really shouldn't be.
