J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I ordered four bathing suits and tried them all on this weekend. The quality was very good and I love the Italian ones. the jury is still out on which one I will keep (have one more coming to try and then I will decide) but I give them thumbs up. The one comment I will make is that if you have large boobs these may not work for you. There is little support in the ones I tried on (all one piece suits mind you) but I don't have a lot up top and if I did these would not work in any way.

  2. I bought the marlo cross body bag in the leopard print with some promo and discount recently that made it about $48.00. I must say that I wish they had made this bag in leopard calf hair instead of the printed leather. None the less, I like the bag. I will be attending several outside events this weekend and I think it will be the perfect little bag to take sunglasses (in their case), I pone 6 plus, keys and some lip gloss. I checked it already and all these items fit nicely. I think it is the wider width of the bag. I have several of the parker cross body bags and they don't seem to hold as much. I did let out the adjustable strap all the way as I like my bags to hang a bit longer. The quality is nice and the leopard will absolutely go with everything.

    2. DD & Alex: What color is the lighter shade on the bag? Online it looks a bit pinkish, but I'm assuming it's more of a tan or cream color IRL?

    3. I would say more a tan but I also thought it might have just a bit of a pinkish tone when I looked at it under florescent lighting in my office otherwise I could say tan. It definitely doesn't jump out as pink on first glance. Hope that makes sense. Maybe Alex Moller can give her opinion.

    4. I bought this bag too but returned it as my wallet did not fit nicely. I agree that it would be better in leopard calf hair instead of the printed leopard. It is genuine leather but does not feel like real leather.

    5. Thank you DD & j.elle! :)

DD - is it worth the $60ish that it is now with the 30% off?

    6. The lighter color is more tan but with a pinkish tint if that makes sense. I think it's a great bag for traveling and other events and think it's worth it!

    7. I think if you wait you can get a better price. Lots of stores have it and I feel like it hasn't sold well since it has been on promo for some time now. I would bet it might go on sale in the next few weeks.

  3. I received the RELAXED LINEN T-SHIRT IN STRIPE in marine salt twig in the smaller of the two sizes I typically wear. What a disappointment. It is "relaxed" fit - which I thought would be ok but is just too boxy (wide and short) for me. I might have worked around the boxy fit by wearing it under a cardigan or blazer due to the amazing sale price but the neckline was the nail in the coffin. The neckline was large and did not lay flat against my chest, it hung open in an odd way. I don't recommend this tee.

Clip Dot Skirt is a cute piece, size down

    1. RE Gingham sundress: is it the shape of the dress or the combination of the shape and gingham pattern?

it's growing on me... although, i think i'd still prefer a solid color or a different pattern.

    3. It was both for me, but I am getting older. On a younger woman, I think it would be cute. I ordered the Thomas Mason maxi dress to try.

    4. Is the stripped Thomas Mason dress available for pre-order now? (I've only seen it on Mygoddy's IG account...)

    5. I hadn't noticed the Tweed orange dress until now, it's gorgeous!

    6. @LilyBart, I would check with an online VPS. I called CS & they put me in touch with Kristen. She was quite helpful. I've been able to order items that were shown @ NYFW that I wanted: gingham sandal with ankle wrap ($238 #F1495), rainbow stripe dress ($118 #F1326) and the rainbow stripe popover ($88 #F0882) as pre-orders. Online VPS service has been very helpful.

    7. Can I ask where to see a pic of the rainbow stripe dress (what it looks like)? I thought it was a maxi skirt shown at nyfw. Thx!

    8. @jan pic on my IG of the popover and not sure ifcthe bottom is a dress or skirt.

    9. @Ina, thank you! I'm wondering the same. :) OT I really love the clip dot midi and tweed dress on you! Going to try those out.

    10. @jan Thank you! I am stalking the tweed dress in peri (currently sold out)!!!!

    11. @ jan, here's link for the image; go to slide #20. I never saw an image of the dress alone. I only saw this image where it's layered. Since there's a style number, you might ask CS if they can email an image.

    12. @Mygoddy, thank you I found it! looks cute but probably too short for me. Good eyes, I didn't notice it underneath the layer before. :)

  5. I ordered the Double-Breasted blazer in Super 120s wool in a couple of sizes to try (in the light grey). It looks great on the website, but I couldn't find any reviews from JCAs and blogs.

  6. Just bought the MICRO-PLEATED MIDI SKIRT (item e8691) in the yellow and ginger dust. Love both colours!!! Also bought the ALWAYS CHAMBRAY SHIRT (item c9310) had to size down for a slimmer fit. Note: This shirt is excluded from the promo online but in store it was additional 30% off.

Fleet Jacket (C3394) - XS - Palm Tree (comes in dark grey, too): Khaki material. Substantial weight and design. Very versatile. You can cinch the waist from the inside of the jacket.

It was tight around the shoulders/armpit. It was tight around the chest. The sleeve length was fine-ended at my wrist. I would say this jacket does not fit TTS. And I'm petite - 4'11, 36B. Will need to size up.

  9. Field mechanic jacket - does not have Skinny Arm Syndrome! You can wear it over a sweater! Luvvit!

That said, I think I already have 2 JC jackets made on this pattern, one is black and water-resistant, one, um, isn't, and is more crumpled. Anyway, I'm keeping the new one, will probably donate the others.

So about the Field Mechanic Jacket - first impressions, pockets, pockets, pockets. Neck flap. Stand collar. Just found more pockets.

Note: there is nothing formal about this jacket. Even the most deranged stylist would hesitate to pop it over a strapless summer dress. I mention this because I once asked a VPS to recommend a light jacket for strapless summer occasions, and she assured me that a short denim jacket could go anywhere. I feared for her future.

    2. Seconding maqsad's comment, hahaha!! I, too, have this jacket on my wishlist but my size is backordered til freakin' July, at which point, here in NYC, with our humidity, the last thing i'd look forward to would be a jacket!

  10. Oh that looks like such a pretty dress! Wonder if it will come in petite? Wonder the $?

  11. Received some online orders over the last week and here are my thoughts.

    1. Collection sleeveless wool coat in camel. Total disappointment. The wool was already fuzzy around the neckline & armholes. Returned.

    On a happier note.
    2. Short sleeve cotton shirtdress in black. I needed a casual LBD and this fits the bill. Ordered a tall for the extra length and that was the right call. Fit was tts in a medium. Will wear with wedges & flat sandals. I bought this on sale for $30 w/discounts so a great price. For some reason it's back up to full price.
    3. Chino belted shirtdress. I really like this dress. The chino is substantial and there's no give; fit was tts in an 8. I was worried about the length after seeing it on a blogger, but it's only a few inches above the knee. So, it works as a casual dress which is what I wanted. The waist is a bit high as noted by some reviewers, but it's not a deal breaker.
    4. Pom Pom flats in navy. I scored these on popback after they'd gone on sale. Didn't realize they were denim, but they're so cute. Fit was tts in a 10 and I can't wait to wear them. @emmeltwins has styled them on her IG.

On another note, I was also able to score plaid Sloan d'Orsay bow flat from holiday; they shipped so can't wait to get them.

    1. Didn't realize those Pompom flats had gone on sale. There was one size that popped back this am and it was mine. Thanks! Hope they ship.

    2. @mygoddy, I'm on a bit of the same clothing wavelength as you. Recently bought that same s/s shirtdress in black (great price for you! Mine was 30% off in store last week but I'm happy with it.) I agree that it'll be a great casual piece for the summer. I plan to wear it with a belt and sandals.

Just wore that chino belted dress for the first time yesterday -- I, too, like it but by the end of the day, the high waist was driving me crazy (and causing the skirt portion to fall funny) so i removed the belt from the loops and retied it at my actual waist. (It seriously comes up to my ribcage!!) I may get the belt loops redone, though they'll crash with the pockets, but oh well.

Saw your coat pix on your IG, how disappointing :-(

    3. @DD, yeah! Glad you were able to score them.

@TM93, thanks for the feedback on the dress; I'll report back after I wear it. Yeah, the coat was a total fail...yikes!

  12. I tried the RELAXED LINEN T-SHIRT IN STRIPE: I had the same experience as another JCA in my larger size, it was shapeless and boxy and awful, but when I sized down it was like a different shirt, the length was the same but all of a sudden it draped nicely and just looked like it fit. I won't put it in the dryer, just incase it would shrink up.
I also tried the STRIPED COTTON SHORT (on sale, plus promo now). These remind me of the bottom half of a 1920s men's 'bathing costume.' which is what I like about them, and also what I don't like about them. They are definitely bold. Nice pockets, heavy fabric, not too short, and the waist wasn't too tight.

  13. FWIW, I just received an order which included a few Petite camis, as well as the polka-dot scarf, a Tippi and a few of those Flutter sleeve tops (already own one in blue). Re) the latter - (#F0117), I ordered it in Pine Green and the Lemon Sorbet color. I should have known that anything with the word 'sorbet' in it would make a rich, vibrant color and that's exactly what this is -- hyper-rich, saturated yellow, not the pale yellow I was hoping for. This actually looks more like a chartreuse color so if you're thinking of ordering this color, just a heads-up.

I also ordered the Metallic suede flatform sandals (Item E7659) in my most common size (6.5) but I really should've known better as I mostly take a 6 in JC shoes. Those of you who have bought Lailas will probably do well to order in that size. These sandals are very pretty and stylish, but I'm returning as the ankle/heel section feels very loose. There aren't many reviews on these sandals, but I agree with the reviewer who notes that the suede portion feels very stiff.

  14. Lace-up Ballet flats - so pretty in pagoda peach color and quality looks good but reviews online have me worried about toe scuffing. They fit TTS for me. My inner girly girl ballerina loves these beautiful shoes but I feel too old in them at 40 when trying on with skirts. I do really like them on me personally with toothpicks and capris. Can anyone chime in on these - I would wear them driving and outside so I'm worried about their durability. Also wondering if they'll work next year or is this a short lived fad? I'm so torn. :)
