JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. OT - I'm interested in optnions on the Billie boot from Madewell. I've been looking for a black leather bootie with a wooden heel & these look perfect but I am hesitant to drop $228 on a pair of booties. If you have them - how does the sizing run? I'm a 7 J Crew flats & usually a 7.5 in J Crew / Madwell heels. I don't own any boots from either retailer. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks JCAs!

    1. Hi Taylor - I have a pair of Billies from last year and after reading all the reviews and waffling between my usual 9 and a half-size down (a lot of the reviews said that they ran big), I ended up with a 9 and have been happy with them. It was really a tough call, but I wasn't certain the 8.5's would stretch out to my liking and the 9's were comfortable right out of the box. I mainly wear them with thicker socks, so that helped make up for any extra space.

However, it looks like the Billie's are "improved" this year so it's possible that the sizing issue was fixed altogether. I think that Ema may have tried a pair recently on her Insta.

    2. Thanks! I'll go check out Ema's iG. You can't work with too small but socks will fix slightly big!

    3. I have Coach boots that I found at TJ Maxx last year that look exactly like the billie. I got them for $100 plus tax. They are fabulous and I can't wait to wear them again this year :)

    4. I just snapped up a pair of black leather Madewell Charley boots on eBay brand new for $130. No regrets!

And no, this does not appear to be a J Crew Clearance Store reseller as this person is in FL. I checked! :)

  2. I bought the factory floral pique dress for my daughter (a very tall 13) to wear to a family wedding this weekend. She loves it and it fits nicely. We are a bit flummoxed on the shoe front. She has navy ballet flats? Off white sandals? What to you think? The wedding is at 4 in the afternoon, outside in a rural area of Northern CA. No heels. Thanks!

    1. Navy or silver? I always go metallic when I am otherwise stumped.

    2. That's a really cute dress! I think navy will be perfect (especially for fall and since it's a late afternoon wedding)!

    3. I think a red flat or heel would look great with that dress! Navy flats would work too :)
