J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Not particularly new (in fact quite an old item) but I have a little review of the Sterling Skirt in retro jade that I scored on a popback with the Goodnews code.
It's probably too wintery for most of you N Hemi folk, but anyway, you can see it here

  2. Review of the tortoise and brass links necklace in this post. Also included a couple colors of enamel bracelets that are marked down in-store.

  3. I have IRL pictures of the factory double serge pencil skirt in bright spearmint here and a styling idea for the sailor side seam shirt here. I'm looking forward to getting the butterfly silk shirt tomorrow!

  4. Bright Droplet Necklace. I like pendant necklaces and this one is different. It's light blue enamel and gold colored with a little bit of crystal and a touch of red-orange at the bottom. It's a substantial weight and seems well made. I think it's really pretty.

  5. Has anyone tried the Embroidered Eyelet Tank? Is it very short?

    1. I tried it in the ivory color, in both Small and Medium. I don't think it was short, but it fit me poorly around the armholes. It didn't look good on me in either size so I returned. I was disappointed, they were really pretty.

    2. I also tried this in ivory in my usual size and loved it when I first took it out of the bag, but as Cate said, the fit is really off around the armholes. They cut forward in such a way that a lot of my bra showed. I'd consider buying it if was on super clearance to wear under blazers, but could never wear on its own.

  6. I received the Vintage Straight jeans in Ecru and Ontario washes. The Ecru fit TTS to slightly small if I compare them to typical JC sizes. The 26" length has a more cropped feel for me compared to the Goldsign Peach wash which at 28" feels just slightly less than full length (I'm 5'4.5"). The color is a creamy ivory, not as whitish as I would have hoped but I like them. If they had been an off-white I might have bought two pair. They have a dark tan stitching that is okay but the Goldsign doesn't have that darker stitching and I prefer Goldsign's lack of darker stitching.

The Vintage Straight Ontario wash fit large. Same size as the Ecru but so large that I had to order the next size down and the size below that to determine what my size will actually be. They haven't arrived yet so I'll have to see if it's one or two sizes. The denim is nice. For a while now, JC jeans have been this thin sad denim I didn't like. These seem more like a substantial denim so it's finding the size/fit which is a challenge if the fit is different based on color.

Bought the Cashmere Plaited V-Neck Sweater in green/snow. I see it's featured in the April catalog above. Colors are a personal preference but I loved this color. It's like that gorgeous mint color from winter that was mixed with the heather dusk stripe. It says it's a 7 gauge but it didn't seem noticeably thicker than the typical 12 gauge, maybe a bit? It's on sale now so thought I'd mention.

  7. To the ladies that have the Collection Cashmere Herringbone sweater, have you been successful hand washing it? I'm afraid of shrinking it, since it is already a little tight in the sleeves. TIA!

  8. Just got the biennial tricolore...I don't want to use it because it is so beautiful!! It reminds me of a macaroon. The coloring is exquisite. I also received the spearminty blazer and the pink tweed blazer...I am so glad I ordered both of these when I did, as they have both vanished. I understand the spearminty selling out because it was half price...but the pink tweed shocked me it sold out right after I bought it. BTW, the pink tweed blazer is my favorite JC purchase EVER. Very well executed, perfect weight, bon bon colors, and all around dreamy. I only wish they had cut a few more colors like light blue, yellow, and purple. I am afraid blazer season is nearing it's end with the April guide only showing a smattering of blazers here and there. I want more, lol!

  9. Three cheers for the Girls' dazzling jewels necklace (94582), which is on promo for $19.50. Although a Crewcuts piece, it doesn't look cheap or like kids jewelry at all. It arrived nicely packaged. The gold chain is delicate and the jewels are set so that they hang nicely and don't flip upside down. I think the jewels are plastic, but you couldn't tell by looking.

I like it because it's a way to add bling to an outfit but without the weight of the adult JCrew necklaces. I frankly find J Crew necklaces to be annoyingly heaving and hang too low on my petite frame. I'm also ample-chested, and there's nothing more annoying that a necklace that ends at an odd place on my chest.

  10. Anyone seen the Tippi sweater in tipsy parsons print or the new Crystal Droplets Necklace in person? TIA!

  12. I finally received my Liberty perfect shirt in June's Meadow floral in it will definitely be a keeper. I love it! The print and colors are really pretty IRL, and I think it will be a very versatile piece, too.

    2. I have my eye on it too but even with the promo currently going, I am hoping it will come down in price from $99.99. My local B&M had it with the additional 30% off sale items, I am going to see if they will honor that and add the CARDMEMBER promo.

    3. FFM, do you think you could post measurements of your shirt? I want to get a sense of proportions, and the live chat hasn't worked for me in the past few days (I'm also outside the US so calling is expensive). TIA!

    4. Hi Keilexandra! I have the shirt in size 0 and just took measurements with it lying flat and unstretched:

      Shoulders: 14 inches
      Bust: 17.5 (35 doubled)
Length: 27 inches (taken in back from top of collar to bottom hem)

When I asked CS for measurements a couple weeks ago I was given these, and as you can see the actual shirt I received is a tad smaller:

For a 0, the shoulder width is 14.5 inches, the bust is 35.5, the waist is 32.75 and the sweep is 38 inches.

For a size 2, the shoulder width goes up to 14.75 inches and the bust, waist and sweep are one inch bigger than the size 0.

I am a 32C with broad shoulders and the shirt fits me well, with just a bit of gaping at the bust when I have the 3rd button done up. However, I always find that button to hit at an odd spot, so I normally safety pin my shirts between the 3rd and 4th button, which also takes care of any gaping that might occur, and even loosens up the fit of the shoulders a bit. Also, I did not find this particular shirt to suffer from 'tight arm syndrome', either.

I really, really love this one, and would say it is my favorite Liberty print that J.Crew has offered so far.

HTH! Let me know if you have any other questions! :)
