JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  5. I have a question, if anyone can answer it: Are the Suede Cece Flat in Jazzy Purple a close match to the Wild Berry color? I missed out on the Monas and Ceces in Wild Berry and loved them! Thanks in advance!

  9. I got the tie top in navy tweed and I've worn it a few times with my dark skinnies and chambray shirt, but I'd like some new ways to wear it. Suggestions?

I like the idea from the catalog of putting it with colored jeans and a similarly colored turtleneck, but I'm afraid that might be somewhat ridiculous in real life? Also, my colored jeans are yellow and that is NOT a color I put near my face!

    1. I don't think your turtleneck would necessarily need to match your jeans. If the jeans are yellow, you could wear a white, navy, grey turtleneck underneath that top and still look good.

    2. acurated life - Try the navy tweed tie top a chambray shirt under (or other option) & burgundy pants like the wool Minnies. If that silhouette isn't good, the Banana Republic Sloan might be an option.

    3. I think it would be cute with a colored turtleneck - pink, burgundy, orange or maybe retro jade and a navy bottom - Minnies or a skirt.

  11. Hey JCA's...GOOP.com site featured Gwynneth modeling all J.Crew clothes from this season. She paired the clothes nicely and simple. Check it out!

    1. Wow thank you for mentioning that... that styling is fabulous. So classy.

    2. Yet another J.Crew advertising initiative (it says this issue is sponsored by J.Crew), they really are pulling out all the advertising stops this season. I'm not crazy about any of the stylings.

I like GOOP, it's kind of fun to read at times. Though I do blame WellFedFred for enabling me to make my first purchase from the GOOP Rag & Bone collection. Um, ya... like I needed enabling.

    3. Oh my, I didn't catch that it was sponsored by the Crew. Hmm..makes me wonder what type of people JCrew is trying to target, and what type of people go to Gwynneth's site?

I like GP's style, as long as she doesn't talk, she's fine. She's known to spew out a lot of
      bs..IMO..hahaha!

The clothes seem to suit her. The only way I found out about this is because GOOP is on my Facebook. Other than that I don't go often to check her website.

  12. If anyone is interested in trading, I have a $25 off of $75 Madewell coupon code (one time use) that I'd like to trade for a J. Crew coupon code. maldabrroc777 (at) gmail (dot) com.

    1. Emailed you! I'd be happy to make the trade (and I'd also be happy to trade two JC coupon codes for the Madewell code).

  13. Styling help plea! I recently picked up the Edie Attaché (beige/black two-tone) for $166 during the Extra 30% sale... and now I have no idea what to do with it! It seems too dressy for most occasions, and I'm terrified of scratching the leather. It arrived with a couple of tiny indentations already, so I know it's fragile.
I like a "classic" look, and this goes well with that style... but every time I bring out this bag I feel like it's just too much. This is not the UES... Hate looking like I'm trying too hard. Any ideas for how to casual it up without looking disingenuous?

  14. The retro jade capri pants look good with many tops, including the French hen silk boy shirt. Check it out on my reviews here:

  16. Does anyone have any suggestions for the factory accordian pleat skirt in gray? I have a striped top/t shirt but Im at a loss for anything else. Thanks!!

  17. Any ideas for what to wear to a Madonna concert in Vancouver, B.C.? I am at a total loss as to what to wear. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have the usual skinny jeans, a sequin tank, a few city minis. Just not sure what is appropriate and I know Vancouver is way dressier than Seattle.

    Thanks so much!

  18. Help style me like Audrey Hepburn...:)
Yes, I love her style and am always looking for looks inspired by her. Any ideas for achieving this with the new JCrew line this fall? I really would LOVE some boat neck sweaters but can't seem to find any...:)

    ReplyDelete

    1. LOVE Audrey too! :) Search "boatneck" (one word) on jcrew.com...lots of great options. I particularly like the colorblock and optical dot versions to take it modern, though Audrey herself may have just gone for the stripes. If you're built true to the gamine type, try size 14 girls' tops, too, like this adorable one I'm eyeing. (Girls' also has a classic nautical-stripe boatneck sweater.

I'd style with Minnies or café capris--black, navy, or grey, preferably. Or go for print/bold color to modernize...but you might lose some of the Hepburn feeling that way. Instead I'd stick with plain bottoms and leave "modern" for the top. Audrey would do flats but I think you can swing low heels or wedges without compromising the look.

Don't forget the (slightly mussed) topknot! :)
