Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I got a pair of leather capri pants from the Gap recently as joke with my sis (she thinks that I'm addicted to leather Just beacuse I own a dozen leather jackets) but they fit so beautifully that I'm considering keeping them. The leather is so buttery soft and the fit, miraculous. They are what I wish the Cafe capris looked like on me- well made and great fitting.
At $350, they're a little overpriced but considering the designer alternative for great fitting leather pants (don't laugh, leather pants can work) I think that they're a good buy.

  3. Just needing to vent, I ordered a Tory burch mini Robinson satchel during their sale. I received yesterday and fell in love, only to realize it has 3 mystery black dots on it:(. No big deal but now I have to go to the trouble of sending it back hoping the next one had no flaws

  4. Wow! Thank you for posting about the Land's End Canvas sale. Has anyone ever bought a button-front shirt from them? I really need new work shirts and am curious about the quality, but also still have a J.Crew reward card burning a hole in my pocket.

  5. awhile back i asked for sizing help with some bed stu boat shoes from madewell... i think it was disco george who helped me out... well, whoever it was, thank you... i ordered a half size down like you said and they fit perfectly. no break in period or anything. i wore them a week straight without any problems. took a while to get them though. they were backordered and when i finally got them, quality control was a little iffy, but i called madewell CS and they returned and reordered me a new pair on the spot.

  6. mirm, I probably have about 10 LEC button down shirts and love them. The quality is there, esp for the price point. I take the same size in the LEC button down as I do the Jcrew perfect shirts. For care, I wash and iron and I find that they iron much easier than the thinner Jcrew shirts. The great thing about LEC is there is no such thing as Final Sale so you can always return them if you don't like them.

  7. I'm glad you like them, Miss JR! I'd be wearing mine like crazy too but I tore a ligament in my foot so shoes are not my friend right now :(

  8. Was so happy to see the LEC sale today! I ordered a pair of the slim slouch chinos with.....(gasp)..... critters embroidered on them! It's an anchor 'critter' and it's very subtle, so I'm hoping they'll be cute in person. I can't seem to resist anything nautical, and really I kind of always liked the critter stuff J Crew did.

  9. I was in the Superstore earlier today and they had a Joe Fresh Mac Coat for $29. I couldn't believe it. Might be all you need to spend to satisfy that orange trend. :)

  12. Talbots is having a 40% off one regular price item in stores today, in honor of leap year. I bought this blue paisley ankle pant:

    http://www.talbots.com/online/browse/product_details.jsp?id=prdi28202&mode=search&backurl=%2Fonline%2Fsearch%2FsearchResults.jsp%3Fquestion%3Dpaisley%26trail%3D%26pageNum%3D0%26addFacet%3DSRCH%253Apaisley%26removeFacet%3D

LOVE it. I tried on a couple of things and I told my SA "I like THIS one," pointing to this paisley pant, and another SA came up behind me and said, "I know why! Because it looks like J. Crew! Remember me?" It was a personal shopper that used to be at J.Crew and moved across the street recently to Talbots...

Sizing, slightly larger than J.Crew. I am a 0/2P at JC, and the smallest size at Talbots was a 2P, which I got, but is a looser fit than what it would have been at JC.

  13. I got a black lace jacket that is so soft and comfortable at talbots tonight with 40 percent off it was normally way out of my price range at 189 dollars but with a coupon and a gift card it was only 15 dollars for me

  14. Aak. I just lost a LONG review!! Here it is in short:

    (1) Navy bag: For those of us interested in the Tillary Tote, Cole Haan has some good options in their color Prussian Blue, a true, gorgeous navy, at colehaan.com. I picked up the vintage valise kendra E/W tote, marked down from $378 to $210, but another good option is the vintage valise jenna, marked down from $398 to $220. Shipping is free, as they are over $150. The vintage valise leather is incredibly durable and wears so well -- I have the jenna in a lantern red, have used it extensively, and it still looks perfect. Far less scratching than I have experienced with Coach bags and the more delicate JC leather bags. Both styles are gorgeous; I had a hard time picking between the two, but I choose the kendra b/c I already have the jenna in red. The key differences: kendra is larger, can accommodate a laptop, and the kendra has structured handles (but they flip down when carried using the crossbody strap, so are unobtrusive).

    (2) Alternatives to JC lula bow flats: I have these in heritage green and I love them. As with most elastic flats, I go 1/2 size up. But, for other colors and less expensive options, I also highly recommend the Me Too Paige flats (also 1/2 size up):

    http://www.amazon.com/Me-Too-Womens-Paige-Flat/dp/B004XGD8QK)

and the Report Kathryn Bow Flats (also 1/2 size up) on sale for $37(!):

Both of these come in great colors (which I own, so can personally vouch for!).

  16. Ladies, I found a code for the 40% off one item online at Talbots.com, good only for 2/29: 020552352. Sorry so late; hope a few of you can still make use of it!

  17. BR's trench is on sale on their web site. It was 198 in the store yesterday, but I got it for 122 with the promo. It's a better fit for me and a more flattering color than the JCrew trench.
