J.Crew of Season's Past: {a look in the closet}

It's that time again, to take a look at an image of J.Crew pieces from seasons past! As caribbelle (in this post) so beautifully termed, "ye olde j crew of yore".

The Bahia Print Silk Shirtdress from J.Crew is one of my favorite pieces. This dress comes in an amazing silk twill (a great weight to it), with a gorgeous print (perfect for Spring & Summer). I love the ruffle collar too (not too much, not too little).

What are your thoughts on the look(s)/item(s) from the past? Do you find the look(s)/item(s) classic or do you think they are dated?

  1. I have the peep toe shoes in this print and get compliments all the time when I wear them. I wore them when I went was in the audience at the "Oprah Swow" and the staff went gaga over them!

  2. I loved this print. I couldn't get enough of it. But a dress with sleeves and a pocket, is right up my alley!

  3. I don't care for this print but I like the style of the dress.

  4. My favorite dress! I never get tired of it, so cheerful. I'm planning on wearing it to a wedding this spring.

  5. I had the top in that print - loved it! I finally had to get rid of it though b/c it was just too big on me. (I bought it during my pregnancy days.)

  6. This dress is ridiculous but I am sure some people pull it off nicely! It is great in theory but in reality, it is just over the top. But I still like it, even though I would never wear it.

  7. I have this dress and l-o-v-e the print, but haven't been brave enough to wear it yet, so it's still NWT sitting in the closet. I was kind of thinking of wearing it to my brother's wedding this summer, but am worried it might be too loud. I would die for a shoe or a pencil skirt in this print though!

  8. egyptomaniac,

sometimes, i like to wear my baird mcnutt linen jacket or rust cord blazer over the dress to break up the print... but layering would probably be much too warm for a summer wedding!

i think this print came in a tote bag as well?

  9. I agree with egyptomaniac, I would def do this print in a nice silk blouse or pencil skirt, the pumps sound devine too. But a print this 'festive' on my frame is just a big no-no. I mean I do love dressing happy ( wearing what makes you happy) but I want to look good while doing it too. It's a tight rope walk...

  10. I have a summer top in a very lightweight cotton in this print and a small cotton twill handbag with wooden handles. The hand bag is a lot of fun to wear. The top on the other hand, has a big "blousy" but short cut (I'm very tall) so the proportion is just not flattering, otherwise I'd be wearing it, as I do love the print.

  11. I have this dress, my hubby is not a fan. I wear it regardless...just not out with him. ;)

I recall a bag, the cotton top with a similar neckline, a cross-back tank, those gorgeous Mary Jane heels, the merino short-sleeved sweater top, and a swim cover up (with a red background, yummy!).

This was from the January 2008 catalog...after Scotland and Paris, it may be my all time favorite catalog. They didn't go anywhere, but I remember a bunch of the photos taken with a black background which beautifully highlighted these amazing prints and colors.

And when you received the pieces in the mail after ordering, the colors and prints were. exactly. the. same. as what they looked like in the catalog. Just sayin'.

  12. I have this print in a mostly wool short sleeve sweater. I think the dress would overwhelm me, but I love the sweater.

  13. If anyone is still looking for this dress, there's one on ebay in a size 2 for $100 (not my auction).
