An extra-long weekend event: take 20% OFF your jcrew.com order

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Rosie & New York & Paris (in this post), as well as D*ska, who shared the following promotion/email with us.

J.Crew is celebrating President's Day with a pretty fantastic offer: 20% off you entire order of $150+ with promo code FABFEB. This offer is good on regular and sale priced items. This offer expires Wednesday, February 22, 2012. The fine print includes:
*Offer valid at jcrew.com only. Offer not valid at J.Crew retail stores or J.Crew Factory stores. Offer does not apply to previous purchases, alterations or the purchase of gift cards. 20% discount applies to online orders of $150 or more before shipping, handling and taxes are added. Offer valid through Wednesday, February 22, 2012, 11:59pm ET. Savings applied at checkout with code FABFEB. Offer not valid on phone orders. Cannot be combined with any other promotion or redeemed for cash. Limit one promotional code per order. Details of offer are subject to change.
It is very clear from the fine print that this offer is only for online. However, I am wondering if brick & mortars will be offering any promotions in their store. If you stop by a B&M, please let us know!

Will you be taking advantage of this offer online? Will you be stopping by a B&M store. If so, please share!

  1. Glad they finally did a FP promo! I probably won't be biting (waiting for those new spring items to roll-out!) but I hope you all find some good stuff :)

Makes no sense to me, however, why they would keep two separate minimums for this promo. Spend $150 for the promo to work then spend $175 for free shipping to kick in? couldn't they have just lowered the FS min?

    ReplyDelete
  2. i'm debating trying out the valentina pumps, but they're still very expensive. hum.

    ReplyDelete
  3. J Crew dumped my cart, and now they've hidden the women's Saint James tee.

    ReplyDelete
  4. FS min too high, so I'm sitting this one out. Nice to see a FP promo though.

    ReplyDelete
  5. On an unrelated note, I can't believe there isn't a single pleated skirt on offer. It's still a huge trend for spring. This promo I might finally bite on a pair of Valentinas.

  6. I have been waiting for this so I bit pretty hard on some suiting, which never has its own separate promo. A lot of the pretty colors in suiting seem to go fast so I don't want to miss out since my shopping plan was to add color to my mostly navy/gray/black suiting. I wish Canadian orders could get free shipping on $175 but I saved over $100 so I guess ten bucks to ship it isn't that bad.

You may or may not remember but in the Looking To Vent post I have vented a couple of times about paypal not being able to handle backordered items, they ended up on credit hold and CS couldn't do anything with them when I called. Well today I went to check out with NO backordered items and the paypal option was there but it wouldn't let me pay with my bank account, I had to select a credit card. Needless to say, I don't need paypal between me and my credit cards so I canceled that and just used a credit card at the checkout. I used up all my paypal balance for something on ebay recently so I didn't have that option but I hope that paypal balance is still an option to use or otherwise, what is the point of paypal?

  7. And of course, in true J. Crew fashion, they have hidden some items (ie. you can't find on the site or use the 20% off on)
    1. Sanit James minquiers III tee
    2. Sperry topsiders for women

    ReplyDelete
  8. wait, you have to spend $150 to get the promo? that's ridiculous. not a very good promo, if you ask me.....

    ReplyDelete
  9. Partnership items (like Sperry, St. James, etc) are usually not included in promos, so it would make sense why they don't work with the 20% off. Does NOT make sense why they would hide them though...

    ReplyDelete
  10. I bit: Rugby Stripe dress and Talitha Blouse in Berry. Also bought the Gardenshade Floral No.2 pencil and a deeply discounted cashmere Boyfriend Cardigan (couldn't help myself) yesterday with the 30% off FS promo. All I need now is that gorgeous navy/coral printed pencil skirt that ajc gave us a sneak peek of on her blog. Then I am good for Spring :)

  11. Yeah, peplum top in fresco floral = mine.
(I know the fresco florals aren't popular among these JCAs, but I still love them)

  12. I can't believe I found a poster sized picture (19-1/2" x 24-1/2") in the bottom of one of my order boxes. It's not glossy but it might as well be; can't imagine what they think customers will do with it. It's folded in half, the front half being a super-size pic of the Feb. catalog cover. When unfolded, the inside/or backside is page 6-7 of the Feb. catalog with the model in the forefront looking directly at the camera, with only two models in the background. I guess there is a BIG push to promote cashmere. Anyone else get one of these? While my son is out of the house today, I'm going to post it in his room; he said 'ewww zombies' when he saw the Feb catalog cover. Lol

@LRA - then you have to spend another $25 on top of the $150 for free shipping. They could've offered free ship on $150.

  13. Does anyone have a link to the suede Lucca sandals? They are mysteriously missing from the sight! TIA

    ReplyDelete
  14. I need to ask my PS if she would honor the 20% for in store items. Like Whitney I would like to use it on that new skirt. If not I think I will hold off, the stuff I wanted t try is sold out (liberty shirt)or backordered (Elinor dress) until April.
Btw, I posted more reviews of upcoming items
    on my blog
, check it to see if maybe you want to hold off until next rollout.

    ReplyDelete
  15. @JustVisiting, I got a cashmere poster too!! A little weird if you ask me.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Well, I have been waiting for this! My friend's wedding is coming up and she has decided to do a "pick your own short black dress" theme for the bridesmaides. I got the Mirabella Chiffon dress. While I was at it I also got the striped perfect shirt and a pair of jeans. I got a pair of matchstick jeans on super sale a few months ago and I practically live in them, so I figure I could splurge a bit on another pair!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I also wanted to order the Lucca suede sandals but they are mysteriously missing! Funny, I just re-ordered a pair last week after my first pair was defective...

    ReplyDelete
  18. I noticed the lucca sandals are missing also -__-

  19. How the FRICK do you find the CS chat feature when you need it? It always pops up when I don't need it, but when I need it, I can't find it. Sometimes the link comes up in the upper left corner of the webpage to start a chat session but it's not there now. GRRRR...

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'll pass, some of the things I ad my eye on magically disappeared and i did enough damage with the 30 30 promo yesterday!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. @Appgal - bottom left side of website under Let us help you, "Live Chat" with a conversation bubble next to it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. JustVisiting: Thank you! It was greyed out earlier when I tried but it's working now. I guess they take the option away when all CS reps are tied up?

  23. PS: Did anyone see the episode of The Middle the other night where Frankie kept typing in the wrong verification code on the Justin Bieber ticket website? I feel that way every time I type in the new verif. words for Blogger (although Bieber tix are not on the line). Really wish they'd go back to the easier words...

    ReplyDelete
  24. @AppGal: I can't get those words correct either!
Did you try the sound button? LOL It sounds like when someone butt-dials you while at a party - I couldn't do that either, lol. But I did notice all the spam coming through lately - several every post - so I guess they had no choice. Sigh. Let's see if I can get it right now to post this lol.

  25. If you return an item from an order so the total ends up dropping below $150, they can't change the price for the items you bought, right? I just want a skirt, but I don't know which size I need so I'm going to order two and return one. So then the order won't equal $150. But they can't undo the discount they gave me on the skirt I keep, right? Why do they make it so hard to shop with them? all these guessing games, all these high minimums.

Really, really not a fan of two-word verification. Trying to read the white type on the black background is a guessing game.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Barbabelle, I do it often and have never had a problem. :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I notice they kick in free shipping if the total is over $175 pre discount.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Also, Barbabelle, I return in store.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Several new promo-priced items this morning. The updated list is here. :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. By the way, I did the "chat" online and they said the Lucca suede sandals are available for "pre-order" by calling the number. I don't know why they disappeared from the web site though!

    ReplyDelete
  31. WOW. I just tried to order a few items from the website, including the cashmere two-tone sweatshirt. When I got to that page, it said order via phone. I chatted w/a J.Crew advisor online and was told the sweater is excluded from the sale, so they're having people buy it over the phone for full-price.

Is it just me, or should J.Crew just be up-front about their sales, and what's included or what's not? It kind of left a bad taste in my mouth they make customers go out of their way to purchase something, only to learn it's not included in a sale!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I ordered some superfine cotton suiting, a couple of Thomas Mason shirts and two of the cable linen sweaters. It is nice to catch the suiting on a promotion.

I bought the orange gingham Thomas Mason a couple of weeks ago and wanted to see a couple of the striped shirts. Actually, I ordered the tuxedo shirt which was sheer and terribly made, but the gingham one is beautiful. I hope the striped ones I ordered today are as nice.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Does anyone have any feedback on the cashmere tees? I keep admiring the persimmon one but am wondering how well they are holding up lately.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I was going to order the Selima Sun Belle sunglasses in kiwi last night, along with some shoes for my husband, but didn't get around to it. But I did check the sunglasses page last night and they still had all the spring Selima styles and colors in stock. Then today I see this promo and go to order them and my cart has been dumped and the sunglasses are now completely missing from the site- like they never existed. Why does J. Crew do this kind of crap? Just say they are excluded from the sale- why be so sneaky and hide them?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I've asked my personal shopper to find the high waisted pencil skirt for me, hopefully she can do it. I'm also getting the Polly popover in green stripe, I've been waiting on a promo to get it.

So glad I got the Tillary tote earlier, it's also gone from the site so I'd have been out of luck if I had waited for a code.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anne, that's EXACTLY what I don't understand. I was so looking forward to ordering this cashmere sweater, but when they say to order it via phone, I was so excited to do it...only to find the reason behind phone ordering is because it's excluded! Just be honest about your sale!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I ordered a few petite items to try on so the next time an even better promo comes around I'll be better prepared! :D

Still waiting to use my rewards card though...

    ReplyDelete
  38. JustVisiting, I was also floored to find that silly poster-like enclosure in my box yesterday. Whose idea was that? What an epic, pointless waste of money and a natural resource! Whoever thought that was a good idea should be fired.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I haven't pulled the trigger on anything right now, b/c I bit on the 30% off sale. I did post a review and a couple pics of the Rugby-stripe Dress today (here), if anyone's considering. I'll post pics of the Madelene dress tomorrow. I also got the Drawstring Mini yesterday and it's adorable. Will try to post pics of that too if I get a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  40. My ps ordered the navy and purple Minnie's for me and the cs gave me the teacher discount too. I also picked up items forme niece and nephew and the b&m honored both discounts as well. New rollout will be out by next Wednesday with more new items coming Friday. I asked about the royal pants and they weren't on Tuesday's list.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I love the Sperry's, and have been waiting so very (im)patiently for so very long to return and rebuy these on promo, and, alas, JCrew hides them. Sneaky, sneaky.

    ReplyDelete
  42. AppGal, I didn't see that, but I know exactly what you mean. These new verification words are really challenging me. :D

    ReplyDelete
  43. I JUST caved last night and finally bought the Madelene and Lillian to try. Now I'm going to have to rebuy and return... Wouldn't it be nice if JC would just do price adjustments? Unfortunately I've already burned by "one time, JUST as a special favor" through CS...

And I clearly can no longer read the verification words.

    ReplyDelete
  44. The Trans: J.Crew should honor a price adjustment since the items you purchased are full-price and you are clearly within the 7 day window to receive a PA. I would suggest that you call CS and ask for the 20% discount to be applied to your order.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I was able to get the Polly blouse but personal shopper could not find the high waist denim pencil skirt anywhere. Probably one I should have gotten when it first came out.

I know there was one review that said they bought size 26 and took a2 in pencil skirts, but they felt a 27 would have been less body con. I'm also a 2 in pencil skirts and I'm wondering what size I should try to fine in the denim skirt, 26 or 27? Any help appreciated.

    ReplyDelete
  46. DesertFlower, Don't know if this will help, but I am a 0 in pencil skirts (basically 28 waist) and I bought the 26 in the denim skirt. It fits perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Bonnie Mc, thank you! I will stalk a 27.

  49. OT...ABOUT PRICE ADJUSTMENTS.
I tried after having ordered items only the day before Promo. I was told no.
I have a very nice item to return to Anthro. that I bought at Xmas. Their return policy and price adjs. are customer inticing. Just saying... Thanks. CAROLYN from Vancouver

    ReplyDelete
  50. Pardon my spelling ENTICING. The item I am returning is nice but I still have not worn it....my guess is probably never will now This past year has taught me to save receits and keep those tags on. Carolyn from Vancouver

    ReplyDelete
  51. I had a friendly sales associate honor the 20% off my $150 order today at a B&M. I think it's worth asking if you want to avoid another online order.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I haven't lusted over anything at J. Crew in months. Probably since summer '11. Does that mean I'm more of a summer wardrobe kind of girl (because I live in S. Florida?), or that the Crew just doesn't do it for me like it used to?

I did get a couple of factory suiting skirts with this week's 30% off/ free shipping on $100 though. But even those I've had on my list a long time waiting for the right drop in price + promo.

I wish some of the new stuff would pique my interest just a little bit!

  53. http://fashionista.com/2012/02/first-look-manolo-blahnik-for-j-crew/

    Funny, verification word is MUST

    ReplyDelete
  54. Just read the manolo collection will be priced from $595-$695. Not too bad considering. I already wear highes designer Shoes but what I love is that I buy them at neimans and saks which has an incredible return policy and will bend over backward to ensure you are pleased. I'm not so sure j crew is going to do that.

    ReplyDelete
  55. The Comme des Garcons Converse are missing from the website, too. That's what I'd been waiting for. Sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  56. In case anyone's thinking of the Madelene for this promo, I posted a review here today. It's lovely.

    ReplyDelete
  57. No comments on the quality of the cashmere tees? Has anyone ordered these lately?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Someone's listening....they clarified the home page text today to say 'online only' for the promo.

At that price point, I'm priced out of the Manolo capsule collection. They'll never make it to sale in my size, and as someone pointed out, in that price range, I'd rather be sure I won't jave a problem exchanging or returning.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Michelle P., I'm intrigued by this pricing. When designers do colloborations for other retailers, they try to more closely align the pricing with the store's own, or slightly above. We see this with the H&M collaborations, Top Shop, even Target. Some items may run more than you usually see in that store, but not by much. These prices are "real" Manolo prices. And as you point out, you can already buy those shoes at high end retailers with excellent customer service not to mention predictable sales. This will be interesting!

  60. kitsmommy, I bought the cashmere tee this winter and washed it by hand a couple of times and think that it is holding up great. It seemed to get better with washing, softer. After all the nasty mixtures of blends in the other sweaters at J Crew this winter it is a winner for me. HTH

    ReplyDelete
  61. I asked on the online chat if they would honor the 20% discount on items already purchased and was told no. So I reordered everything that I had already purchased FP in store and online and not worn. So tomorrow I am returning over $415 of merchandise but saving quite a bit of money. I also remembered that those purchases were made with a gift card and $75 rewards. Does anyone know what they will do? issue me a gift card for the rewards and gift card?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Kitsmommy, I bought quite a few cashmere tees this winter. They seem to be holding up ok so far, but I have seen a little bit of pilling under the arms.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Has anyone seen the Linen V-neck cable-knit sweater? I'm wondering how the quality is, it looks pretty thin in the picture and wonder if it will hold up well.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Elaine and Desert- I agree I figured with J crew it wouldn't be similar to other collaborations... apparently they are supposed to be the same as sold in high end stores only with J crew fabrics?? Honestly, I own over 30 pair of louboutins alone and when a heel broke recently a year after buying and wearing them Neimans gave me a full credit for them! I KNOW J crew won't do that. While the fabrics look enticing I probably won't bite simply because like you all said I can spend that at the other stores and have peace of mind! btw I am so looking forward to the marni collaboration with H&M!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Elaine, the legalese specified online only from the time it was put up. What they failed to do and haven't updated is the fact that collab pieces and other items are excluded from the promo.

Josanne - The gift card tender will go back on gift card. I'm not sure about the rewards portion.

    ReplyDelete
  66. @Gigiofca: This promo is really strange. Every cashmere sweater seemed to be gone from the get go of this promo. Today's New York Times has a huge add showing that same shot of the two girls that are on the "Cashmere shop" lead page. But none of the sweaters are available. BUT, I did order one of the PLAY Comme des Garcons cardigans and got the 20% off. Go figure. We'll see if I actually get it, right?

    ReplyDelete
  67. @josanne, I was told by a JC store manager that if you return items paid partially thru rewards card, that it will be refunded as a gift card. I haven't actually had experience with it yet, but I will certainly hold them to their word if that happens!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Thanks for the comments on the gift and rewards card, I'll let you know what they did when I return tomorrow. I bit on another order this morning, I asked if I could combine with Friday's order but was told no. So I ordered the pencil skirt in 2 petite sizes since I have no experience with them, that got me to $175 with another item. Also I finally got a word/phase that I could truly make out this go around...yeah.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Josanne, Connor is correct, they will give you a gift card. I've done it several times now without a hassle.

    ReplyDelete
  70. How bizarre. I receive my order yesterday with the crazy cashmere poster and today I cant order any! WTH?

    ReplyDelete
  71. I know I'm just being greedy, but I wish there was a way to combine the 20% with the student discount!

Otherwise the extra 5% isn't enough for me to want to buy all this extra stuff to pad the total to get free shipping...

    ReplyDelete
  72. I was in my local B&M today and lo and behold they had one pair of the Viv flats with bows in my size (wild mushroom the color I really wanted) so I decided to try them again. I had tried them on in the henna color around Christmas time and they were VERY uncomfortable (ouch) so I passed. Today they fit great and felt fine (ie didn't hurt)...so when I got to the register I asked the SA if they were honoring the online sale of 20% off $150 and she said yes. Sweet!

So ask for the discount if you are in the store hopefully you'll get it.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I just came from my store. Picked up the basket weave tweed no 2 in the blue color way. It was on sale for $79.99

  75. Does anybody have a review of the Merriweather jacket? I bit on that and the red Valentinas today .. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Did a pre-sell with the 20% promo with my PS for the polka-dot skirt reviewed on AJC's blog and the schoolboy in chambray. Excited to wear both of these this Spring!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Got lucky and the high waisted denim skirt popped back in a few sizes this morning. I notice though my order was below $175, no shipping was charged.

    ReplyDelete
  78. question for frequent JCrew online shoppers: is this sale about as good as it gets for online deals? I need to buy a lovely bridesmaid's dress by August and was hoping to hold out until a great sale came along. I'm not sure if I should bite with this sale or wait for a better offer. Any tips would be appreciated!

    ReplyDelete
  79. So I took all my prior purchases back to the store today and they just processed as credit to credit card, including gift card and rewards. Which was wonderful since I purchased about the same amount over weekend.
