  1. What a nice promo with free ship to boot. I won't be buying any sweaters as I have a closet full and really don't see any I have to have:) I miss the novelty sweaters that J.Crew used to have. If you need a basic I guess they have them now but I liked the classic ones with a twist like the Melanie with the fun sleeve buttons from a few years back. Bought mutitlples of many sweaters years ago; good for long while.

  2. Why are select sweaters on sale only? They can't have all on sale..of course the sweaters I want are not -__-

  3. I agree, the "select sweaters" and "up to 30%" is kinda stingy compared to past promos. I've been burned by poor quality sweaters last year so will be sitting this one out. Although, I have to say - that double-breasted sweater jacket should already be 90% off! I've never seen a sweater shed so much on a rack in the store.

  4. ITA with you, silver_lining. I was prepared for the double breasted sweater jacket to be disappointing after hearing about it from several JCAs, but when I actually saw it, I was shocked. Nasty pills hanging all over... they looked HORRIBLE. I'd hate to be the manager who has to put those hideous things out and try to sell them. I am really disappointed since I thought it was cute when I first saw it online but... no. DO NOT BUY.

  5. I'm sitting out on this promo. I guess they want to sell "not so popular" colors and styles out for the promo. I wanted some cashmere pieces but I just can't justify paying over $100 for sweaters.

Thanks for the heads up on the poor quality of the double-breasted sweater. I'm glad I can cross it off my list. ;-)

  6. Very select sale!
Too bad about that sweater jacket.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I would have bought the tippi but it is not part of the sale. :(

  8. What about in-store promos? Is there any way to find out about them other than just showing up at the store? I receive emails about on-line promos but never anything about in-store ones. Can anyone offer any insight? Thanks!

  9. Yes, the sweater jacket in store looked hideous.
There is nothing good on this sale. I wanted Betsy in heater aqua and cashmere v-neck in heather camel but of course they are not included. I briefly contemplated the same v-neck in bright plum orchard but I am shopped out and $126 is still not that great, so I'll pass.

  10. I ordered the cashmere cable in snow to try. I already ordered and returned the grey because it looked like a sweatshirt in that color, but I love the sweater and at least want to try it in a different color.

I am tempted on the carbon jester, but I already have three argyle sweaters and I tend to grab my more subdued items more often, so I am trying to restrain myself.

  11. And that double breasted sweater jacket wouldn't be worth the cost at 99% off. I still can't believe they are trying to sell that sweater. If dear leader wants to walk the walk on quality, that sweater needs to be pulled.

  12. Nope, too stingy for me. I also might have bought a Tippi, but alas...

And I'm not in sold sweater territory yet anyway -- it will be back in the 80s by the end of the week.

I did jump at the opportunity to wear my lady lace popover today, though, and I was almost late for work since I spent so much time looking in the mirror admiring myself in it, LOL!

Looking forward to busting out a few of the pretties I picked up at the end of last fall/winter once it gets a little cooler.

  13. Just ordered quite a few cashmere sweaters. The cable and ribbed cashmere I ordered in my usual size and one size smaller (per JCA's reviews.) I also love the Isabel sweatshirts so I ordered the plum orchard, the shawl in the pine, and re-ordered the v neck in the hthr citrus. I just returned the hthr citrus because I wanted to wait for it to go on sale, well now it is. Haha...I will probably only keep 2 of these sweaters, but wanted to try them all out. I have been disappointed with the quality of the cashmere recently, so maybe with the smaller gauge of some of these I will be pleasantly surprised :)

  14. Can anyone comment on the quality of the dream sweaters this year? I'm looking at a couple turtlenecks but I will pass if they are too thin or itchy. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  15. @ Elaine: LOL

None of the ones I am slightly interested in are part of the sale. Pass.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Does anyone have a review of the Hadley Sweater? Wondering about the material and the fit. TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hi Dawn -- I got the dream yoga sweater in green during an earlier promotion. Of course, I paid more than $79 for it! It's not itchy at all, and I'm very sensitive to itchy wool.

    ReplyDelete
  18. and thanks, everybody, for the sweater-jacket reviews. I almost bought it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. @Dawn,

Can't comment on this year's dream yarn, but I will never buy another dream sweater again. I broke my rule last year when I wanted a particular color and bought a final sale dream sweater and it pilled horribly after two wears. Not worth even the $20 I paid for it.

Now, that double-breasted sweater jacket? That's the poster child for shameful decline in quality. If I were J Crew I would recall every piece of that item from all stores so as not to further tarnish my already embarassing reputation for drop in quality.

  20. Audreybella has a real life pic and review of the Double-breasted sweater-jacket item 47265, along with alot of other items on her blog Life is Short...Buy the Shoes.

    Dawn
I have only tried the Dream Cardigan item 48781 and with exception to the buttons, it's identical to last years dream cardi in fabric content, feel and sizing.

  21. too "select" for me. sitting this one out. nothing I HTH except for the origami shift dress, so I'm waiting for a promo code.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Has anyone tried the Bateau Button Sweater? I'm wondering about sizing. It looks quite roomy on the model.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I am sorry to read all this about the sweater jacket, as I was eyeing it already. But I am sure I will get at least a sweater from this promo since the weather is beginning to cool down. It is sweater weather 9 months of the year here, so I can always use another sweater.

Agree on the dream yoga cardi (pic on my blog)... it is soft (due to the cashmere content).

Stene, does the ribbed cashmere sweater run TTS?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Wow, just looked at the double breasted sweater jacket on audreybella's blog and can't believe the sad buttons hanging by a thread. Very poor quality control.
I am holding off on any JC purchases for now until final sale goes away. I think it should be about a month...

    ReplyDelete
  25. Just a reminder -- if anyone is ordering through ebates they pay back 4% for JC orders. Combine that with placing the order on the JC card, for additional savings.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Rose - Just ordered the ribbed sweater and not sure about size. I went through and found a review from a JCA and she said it was boxy and she sized down. I ended up just ordereing my normal size and I smaller so I could figure that out. I will report back as soon as I get my order (which I am sure won't be for another week.) Rose you must live somewhere close to me...sweater weather here all year round :)

  27. I am tempted by the fisherman sweater that I tried in store and loved, I have been longing for a sweater like that for a long time and the vintage champagne color is more flattering on me than the snow they usually put out. I wanted to wait for a sale but the good promo price combined with free shipping is really pushing me through the edge. Anyone else is interested in that one?

I agree on the double-breasted sweater, I saw it the other day in store and couldn't believe my eyes, it had pills everywhere. People must not know because it is selling out in the red colorway...
They should do a recall or at least try to market it as a "lived-in" special feature. I suggest: "our designers have taken our so ever popular double breasted sweater and beaten it up a hundred times to give it that special lived-in feeling and perfect pilling that you have come to appreciate in your most loved cashmeres from years past. Dry-clean only (putting it in the washer could remove pilling)"...

  28. Thanks, Stene! Looking forward to your review. I am a bit more North from where you are. :)

  29. LOL, Ema, your copy cracks me up!

OT, on the latest Marissa departs JCrew news, see this link:

    http://www.nbcnewyork.com/blogs/threadny/THREAD-Marissa-Webb-Departs-JCrew-Tom-Mora-to-Replace-Her-130115053.html

And can someone tell me how to create a clickable hyperlink?

    ReplyDelete
  30. I ordered the double-breasted sweater jacket and couldn't return it fast enough. I showed the salesperson the pilling and she said that I "must have received a defective one". I asked if they had seen alot of returns and she told me 8 was the only one....Good to know that I am not crazy or unlucky. This item should be pulled and retuned to the manufacturer. It is am embarrassment to JC!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ema, I ordered the fisherman sweater in the vintage champagne. Not a bad price, and I love how I saw it styled in one of the catalogs with a white button-down underneath.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anyone know what happened to all the colors of the Cashmere cable sweater? There were about 5 that were part of the promo this morning but now they are all gone...hard to believe they all sold out?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ema how did you find the acrylic content in that sweater? Did it seem cheapie?
Was it boxy or more fitted like the shrunken fisherman from spring?
    TIA!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. DaniBP, the sweater is very soft and didn't look cheap at all to me. However the acrylic content is very high (something like 55% if I am not wrong) and it is kind of loosely knitted. Bottom line: I don't think it is a very warm sweater. It is fitted but also boxier than the fisherman from spring because definitively shorter. See it on me here. HTH!

  36. :( The sale certainly seems to be doing well with the wider public. The sweater I wanted to get (cashmere cable) got sold out by the time I convinced myself to go to checkout.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Victoria & Tippy - That is so weird about the Cable Cashmere. When I checked out this morning they had every color and I think every size. Maybe they were selling too many of them and took them offline.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I agree with Stene - they were probably yanked from the site, and will show up in all sizes/colors after the promo ends.

    ReplyDelete
  39. IRL or others,

How's the fit of the Dream cardi? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Kind of a stingy promo! My store had the Clipper Cardigan on the sale rack for $99, and it's $117 on the web. It was pretty cute, but I'm waiting for a better discount...

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ema, thanks so much. That's so helpful. I decided against trying one for now, even though I really like the look of it. I need warm warm things up here in Canada!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I too wanted the cashmere cable but by 10:30 CST they were sold out. Strange....

    ReplyDelete
  43. Can anyone tell me how price adjustment works? I bought several of the sweaters that are now on sale a few days ago. Will they honor the sales price for items under a week old?

    ReplyDelete
  44. OT, but whoaaaaaaaa...I just got the new Lands' End catalog at home today -- it has a persimmon peacoat on the front...HELLO, it takes a direct aim at J Crew!

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that it's Lands' End that hired away Marissa. I think they're trying to take Lands' End firmly into J Crew territory, and this catalog just drips with comparisons and digs at the Crew.

The first inside spread says 'Woven for us in Italy ...' and it just goes on from there. The comparisons are undeniable -- even the item descriptions, page layouts and the way the merchandise is presented and photographed are starting to mimic J Crew's structure. LOTS of references to them including/adding little details that the competition has let fall by the wayside in the past few years, references to the inferior quality of competitors' cashmere...hmmmmmm. Very interesting. It's about as subtle as a frying pan over the head.

Check it out and tell me if you agree.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Elaine:

That's interesting about Lands End. I looked at their catalog and the layout is definitely J Crew-like. I'd be delighted if they really snatched Marissa Webb. It's about time JC has a real competitor. I actually just got a cashmere sweater from LE (after not having bought anything from them for ages) and I'm very pleased with it. It's soft, the color is beautiful, and the silhouette is slimmer than how I always thought about LE clothes. The cashmere is smooth rather than fuzzy, which is usually a sign that it won't pill, at least I hope! And, I only paid $80 for it with promo!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Very disappointed at how "selective" the sale is. I'm wanting to pick up a navy jackie twinset, which is a good basic. How's the Cambridge Cable yarn/knit? What's your experience been like, if you own one? TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Gosh I hope I didn't put my foot in it, they have already stopped the promo in the UK after one day.
I wonder if they hadn't meant to carry it to the UK?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Well, as everyone predicted the cashmere cable sweaters are now all back online in all colors but at full price! Wishing I had snagged the color I wanted on sale when I had the chance.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Bizarre and annoying that they pulled the cashmere cable sweater. I had it in my bag, and then it disappeared. Then they pulled them. Now this morning, they all show up full price.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I noticed that the leopard print Tippi sweater is no longer offered online. :-(

    ReplyDelete
  51. Does anyone know how much cashmere is in the Betsy? Why doesn't the website list the materials breakdown in their descriptions?

Like many, I am disappointed at this promotion. I would have absolutely bit at a cashmere cable, Betsy, Tippi and probably a couple cashmere tees at 20%.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Kelley: I don't have it in front of me right now, but if I remember correctly the Betsy is 70% wool, 30% cashmere. I am fairly sensitive to wool and don't find it itchy at all, but I am a bit concerned about pilling. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I also missed out on the cashmere cable sweater before they all disappeared and reappeared at full price. Curious, anyone who ordered one, how much were they marked?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Shekster - I ordered the vibrant flame cable cashmere for $182.40. I ordered 2 of them...a Small and X-Small so which ever one doesn't fit I can re-sell it to someone for that same price. I just got the shipping notification last night, so it probably won't be here until at least Monday.
