"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Of course there's a huge update this morning with 2 items I would have gotten with the promo. Why wouldn't they have wanted to clear these things out? It's beyond me.

  2. Hubs placed an order an hour after me on Saturday and got his shipping confirmation the same day. I placed 3 orders Saturday and just got shipping confirmation for one of them late last night. What the heck is going on with the other two? I asked an online PS and was told that they're "on their way to the warehouse to be shipped". I have a feeling I'll be getting the dreaded "wish we had more" email but I wish they'd just get it over with in case those items popback. (and of course with today's huge update, they have!)

  3. I don't frequent J Crew but when I did last couple days, their service was terrible.

I asked the store in NY Midtown 45st and another store 14th to hold some items for me. When I arrived, there was no item on hold. Both stores failed their duty terribly. I was and still am disappointing!

  4. Why isn't J. Crew bringing back the Canada Post shipping option??? Canada Post resumed normal service nearly a month ago but the J.Crew website still says they can't ship by Canada Post. The UPS handling fees are ridiculous, plus UPS charges the maximum duty, so it adds about 30% of the value on top of an order. The 40% off promo just barely covered the UPS charges. Bring back the Canada Post shipping option!!

  5. I would like to vent about the fact that my gray lady lace popover got canceled (grrr) and that several pieces of the Cassis swimwear were added to the sale section overnight (double grrr). I get so tired of the bait and switch!

On the flip side, two of my three LOVEIT orders are out for delivery this morning, including the ruched harbour paisley swimsuit I just ordered yesterday.

  6. I spend A LOT of money at JCrew, and I give my online PS a lot of business. When the floral swing skirt first went on sale a few weeks ago,I was on the fence as it was still $140 with discounts. My PS pushed me to order it by telling me how it was quickly selling out, and if I did not order it ASAP, I would lose out.

Well during the last sale, all sizes were STILL available and at almost half the price. I sent her an email asking if she could adjust the price, and she did it, but gave me a harder time than necessary.

It just rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe I am just cranky this morning.. :)

  7. Inventory hiding! Come on, the day after the promo ends, the sale section is suddenly enormous? I guess they don't want me to spend my money there, because there's no way I'm buying something that I know they had in inventory but hid during the promo.

    ReplyDelete
  8. All sizes of the floral swing dskirt were not availabel during the last sale. I know my size wasn't as well as two other sizes so glad I ordered at the $140 price. Remember PS get a commission so of course they are going to tell you things are selling fast:)

    Elaine,
Those cassis swim pieces were avaiable the morning of the sale as I was sitting here at the computer with my sister who was visiting from IL and she bought them. I did notice they disappeared though after that. I think that was the one day that you did not "check in" with JCA. It is strange though how they were there the first day (or few hours at least) and then gone.

  9. as with everyone else, an item I have been stalking for a popback is now in the sale section, just after the promo ended.

on a more serious note, the stitching around the fly on my broken-in boyfriend chinos has completely unraveled (like when you sew with no thread on the bobbin?). I noticed this on just the second wear. they are supposed to be broken-in, not worn out.

in Madewell news, I just received the panama hat (which I suspect is identical to the one sold at J. Crew) and I was quite disappointed. I had waited a very long time for this to go on sale because the price was so steep but last week I gave up and bought it anyway for my vacation coming up. it is extremely flimsy, and was not packed in such a way that its would be maintained. it looks very silly the way it is shaped now, with the brim completely flipped up. if anyone has tips on reshaping straw/woven hats, they would be much appreciated!

otherwise, I'm very happy with the recent promos, although a little wary about the quality I'm about to receive.

oh, and the LOVEIT order I placed last Friday still has not shipped as of this Wednesday morning! so I fear I may not get everything I ordered.

    ReplyDelete
  10. My size was available, and I have given my PS over $2000 of sales in the last month. I just started a new job and needed to buy a whole new wardrobe (I was in the military and only had uniforms). I just did not appreciate her attitude when I asked for a price adjustment.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'm irritated with the fluctuating prices. I was eyeing the 7" inch chino shorts, all colors of which were on sale for $35 over the weekend. When I went to order on Monday, half of the colors were back up to $45.

  12. ElleBelle,

I understand. I have gotten really good service from my online PS but when I had an "issue" I called her b/c sometimes email/written word can be taken the wrong way I have found from past experience. Next time maybe give her a call??? Just a thought. Glad she gave you the price adjustment in the end.

    ReplyDelete
  13. My order from last Friday still hasn't shipped. I'm afraid I'll be getting the dreaded "We wish we had enough..." email. Geez...

    ReplyDelete
  14. I am in Canada and just received my August catalogue. On the front it says "prices are valid thorough August 15th for orders shipped to Canada. Prices are in US dollars".

    What??

Are they going to price adjust for Canadians? That I think would be a first. And if so they are planning to do it in mid August for an August catalogue? I realize thefirst store in Canada, the one in Toronto should open around August 15th, but I guess they are expecting this will impact prices somehow....

So should I wait until then to order????

    Urgh....

    ReplyDelete
  15. I am in the United States and still haven't received the August catalogue. J.Crew's ineptitude in mailing out catalogues is staggering. I don't shop there as much as I used to, but often enough that a cat. should be finding its way to my mailbox monthly. Meanwhile Victorias Secret, which never sees a dime from me, faithfully mails.

Good for you ElleBelle in getting the adjustment.

And now a non-venting finale: Got the no. 2 wool pencil skirt yesterday evening, and managed to try it on for a minute by ignoring the heatwave. Verdict: Thumbs up. It is, in fact, lined, so (vent alert) boo to the online chat customer service person who told me it wasn't.

I got the purple color, which I would deem more of a plum than a true purple. Took my regular petite size. Look forward to wearing it come autumn.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Stung by final sale....GRRR! Should've known the popback was too good to be true. Obviously worn and no tag.

To Jcrew's credit there was no issue to return.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Inventory games! As so often happens, 500+ more items in the sale section just HOURS after LOVEIT ends? Come on.

I just don't understand the logic of this from a business standpoint so late in the retail season. Can it really be worth it to the "bottom line" to invest the internal resources needed to hold out for non-promo purchases of all this stuff? Sheesh!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I sometimes receive items wo tags too or if it has, the tag is wrinkly.... Does that mean those are all worn and used??! Y would they take back items that are used anyways??!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I have been a J.Crew fan for 20 years- before they were anywhere near as well known as they are now. Love their style and most of their quality but their sizes tend to run all over the place. I am almost always a size 4 or Small with them, but every once in a while pants will be way too large or way too small. Or the quality isn't what it should be- like in a recent suit I ordered from their sale section (so it can't be returned). And one last pesky thing is that the store clerks in Richmond, VA's Short Pump store are so snooty that I refuse to shop there.

    ReplyDelete
  20. mommycamille - I got the same sticker on my catalog. I assume that J. Crew will start charging orders shipped to Canada in Canadian dollars, complete with price increases despite the fact that our dollar is above par and has been for some time. It makes sense to increase the in-store prices in Canada to cover the taxes/duty incurred when they ship the items to Canadian stores. However, when I order online I will continue to be charged for taxes/duty on top of the cost of my order, which I assume will now be significantly higher due to the higher prices and our higher dollar.

I really, really hope that isn't what they do, but I'm pretty sure that's where we're headed.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Minor gripe: I wish they'd downsize the sleeves on the sweaters, at least on the larger sizes. They make narrow bodies but oversized sleeves. Why? J Crew, my arms aren't that fat. :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Are the items listed in the "Sale" section from regular JCrew stores and do they always list "Factory" separately? Or are they all intermingled sometimes under "Sale?" Got my final sale order in mail yesterday and some of the items look like they came from factory to me - tags, quality, etc (but I didn't order factory items).

    ReplyDelete
  23. OK J. Crew Central...

I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that you will return the "Browse a Catalog" feature on your website.

There's a lot that goes into these decisions, I'm sure, however it seems that the cost of including an online catalog is zero compared to the saving of resources to print extra hard copy catalogs.

I'm hoping you continue to be as green as possible!

  24. Sizing must have drastically changed in the basic 5" chino short. I have three size 6 pairs that I've bought in the last year or two that all fit me perfectly. I ordered two more pairs from the sale which were delivered yesterday and I can barely get them on. They are marked size 6 and are same style as what I already have but feel two sizes smaller.

    ReplyDelete
  25. What the FART is with the chat feature? I have never once been able to access a link to it, not in any browser. I've looked high and low and it's never where it's supposed to be. I hate having to call in with questions. The Lands End one is so great, why can't JC's actually be a reliable fixture of the site?

    ReplyDelete
  26. @ gumdrops

Freaking hilarious. I thought it was just me. EVERY time I go on the website that stupid chat feature keeps on popping up, popping up. Then when I actually NEED to chat to someone I can't find it anywhere. I end up closing my browser and reopening J Crew to try to get it to pop again. So weird.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hi Anonymous, look at the JC tag sewn onto the garment and see if there are two small stars under the name JCrew. If so, they are factory items.

Like others, my current gripe is with inconsistent shipping. I have at least one order from last Thursday that has not shipped. This is the third time this has happended.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Anonymous at 1:42pm - I had the same problem with the 5" chino short, but only in the khaki color. I ordered khaki and shocking pink, both in 6 and at the same time. The shocking pink fit as expected, but I could barely get into the khaki. I returned them to the store, and the SA held them up and said, "oh, that does *not* look like a 6." I re-ordered in a 6 (hoping it was just an isolated defective pair) and an 8. Still too small! Lesson learned: always try everything on, even if you think you know "this style in this size always fits."

    ReplyDelete
  29. Just received the Finespun Draped Tank in a size small and it is surprisingly big. I'm 4 months pregnant and it is BIG. Guess the good news is that I won't grow out of it anytime soon!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I finally ordered the four swim pieces that I wanted. Frustrating thing was that I tried to order them yesterday on JCREW and received the 40% off but when I went to checkout and submitted my order nothing happened. It wasn't clear whether the order went through because I didn't get a message or email but clicking the submit order did nothing but bring me back to the homepage. I decided to wait for the confirmation email the next morning but that was a mistake because it didn't come and I learned that that discount was over. I went back online and submitted the order again but of course I couldn't get the $50+ dollars off. I was irritated and decided to call Jcrew after I got the confirmation for the non discounted order just fine. The lady I spoke with made me laugh inside because I'm a very gentle person compared to many and she kept placating me unnecessarily whenever she got the "slightest" hint of disatisfaction. "I understand mam..." I couldn't even finish my sentences before she said that. Got the impression that she had had many unhappy customers prior to me. Anyway, long story short they came through for me and granted me the discount anyway even though they couldn't find record of my first order during the promo, which was kind. Let's just see if the items actually ship. After reading all of the previous posts I'm worried they wont. I thought that they knew their stock well enough not to confirm orders for things they didn't have!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Of the last 6 orders I have placed, (2 of which are not even here yet), 4 have involved major errors- ie. gotten a yellow shirt instead of a yellow skirt. At this rate, the success rate is only 33%, and that's assuming there are no issues with the 2 pending orders. Can you think of any other retailer that could screw up 67% of the time and stay in business????

    ReplyDelete
  32. I received my orders from Thursday. They came much faster than usual. Then my order from Friday am was just shipped out today...I knew the items were around because they are still available but you wonder when it takes longer if your going to get the dreaded email.

I'm assuming that with a free shipping no min. They are bogged down with many orders of single pairs of socks and watch bands. Or maybe just A LOT of orders : )

Maybe this was a factor in them removing the promo from the web page early?

I can help but hate it when the web site is updated the morning after a sale. They weren't even new items, just things that I would wake up super early for so I could catch my size....needless to say those items are still sitting on their website and not in a shipping box to my house.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I agree on the 5" chino short -- somehow they're running a bit snug. I got 2 of my 3 LOVEIT orders today and I'm actually very happy overall. The ruched harbour paisley one-piece is gorgeous and very flattering, although I wish the legs were cut a bit higher. I sized up one size and am glad I did.

I adore my lady lace popover and it runs TTS for me, but as some have mentioned in the past, the lace detail is lost on the black one. :(

    ReplyDelete
  34. Wow, this is *not* reassuring (re. the 5" chino short sizing). I ordered my usual size in the 5" because I purchased the 3" chino shorts in one size larger in store (was on super-sale and I wanted it before a holiday) and it fit loose, as it should. So my regular size will probably be going back, based on these comments....good thing they weren't marked final sale. I suspect maybe JCrew knew something was up with these and that's why they didn't mark it FS?

Of course, now no one can get their shorts with the 40% and free shipping...grrrr....

    ReplyDelete
  35. audball: Ask CS to exchange them for another size. They should honor the sale price on the new pair and ship them to you free of charge. You'll have to pay to send back the pair that don't fit though.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I just came back from returning some items in store, and had a question about promo items.

I'v been wanting to pick up the Summer Weight Chino shorts, but they've been out of my size online. They $29.50 in store, for some colors. Could you confirm or deny whether you can usually take the extra % off online with promo items?

The usual mean lady at the Walnut Creek Cali location said that you can't. And of course she tried not to honor their $29.50 sign sitting next to the shorts, saying only one color is coming up as part of that promo. She was also being rather nasty about my FS returns that were already honored by phone.

When she scanned them and called the catalog, the shorts came up $35.00 promo.

So, my question is, have you been able to use the extra % off for promo items. I just can't recall if ever have.

BTW, the store was still running 30% off on Sale items, woops I mean FS.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Got my catalog today and dog-earred pretty much every single page. There's a lot I am coveting for this fall and winter!

Anyway, noticed in the description for the Leopard No. 2 pencil skirt that it said "fully lined." I thumbed back through to check the description for the wool version and there's no mention of the lining. They can't even get it right in the catalog! Can't imagine the number of disappointed customers who will be sending that Leopard skirt back!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Okay my vent turned into praise. I called catalog CS, and they told me that the extra % should apply, regardless of it being FS or promo.

I called the store I bought the shorts today, and they said it doesn't apply to promo items. Now I'm scratching my head.

The good new is I ended up speaking to Melissa, the Walnut Creek Manager (Not Sue!) and she was super sweet and applied 40% off to the items I bought on promo in her store today, even though they are only doing 30% currently.

She said she gave me the discount b/c of the misunderstanding. Wonderful, go the extra off and didn't have to go back to the store to get this fixed.

Still unsure about the promo-sale stuff, but at least they tried to satisfy the customer.

    ReplyDelete
  39. This is a MINI vent. I love the Studded Natalie Sweater but I don't understand why I didn't get extra studs. It's a sweater full of studs, a missing stud can "destroy" the whole thing. The atuds seem secure but J.Crew's record with appliqué isn't stellar so I'm still worried. I do like the sweater though (review here).

Like everyone else, I am flabbergasted that inventory magically appears after a promo. I should be used to it by now. Also, I am still seething that there are no more online catalogs.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Thanks for the review. Love your Blog and your photos are great.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Kind of a vent, but I got some boxes from my 40%, and got my Medina Midheels in chester brown, which are SUPER cute, but no way would I have paid the full $235. They feel like they could snap in half, like the part holding my arch up could totally collapse. Is it the spike heel, or just not being strong enough along the sole? Anyway, cute for $54, but really, charging this high of price for shoes, then the shoes should be impeccable

    ReplyDelete
  42. Pathos - thanks for the heads up on the Medina midheels. I ordered those too, since I figured $54 was fine for a pair of "fun" heels. Do they at least fit TTS? BTW, did you see that the Shelby dress popped back in the sale section on the last day of the LOVEIT promo? I noticed it at the last minute and ordered it!

    ReplyDelete
  43. The IT dept must be run by one person to update and a mouse in a wheel to keep it going. Totally pathetic, imo, esp when Drexler is on the Apple board. I also don't understand why massive updates happen, literally, the day a promo ends. However, as someone else said, I'm used to it now.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Unpleasant SA in Rockaway, NJ nearly ruined my day today! Grrr.

    ReplyDelete
  45. FFM: Thanks for the heads up and advice. I'll wait to see what comes in...I thought ahead and ordered the summer weight chinos in two sizes (and will return the size that doesn't fit as well), but the 5" modern red shorts were supposed to be a "sure thing" in the size I chose (hahaha - I should know that never means anything, right?). But I'll try what you suggest if I run into a sizing problem with them.

OT: and potentially better news. I got my Rewards Card today (good through September15th), so everyone should be on the lookout for that. Came in a small postcard booklet with some of the Fall Looks. Also, as a cardholder I was told that in-store there is a "private morning of shopping and refreshments" on the 30th from 9-11AM. One just shows the card to get in, no RSVP necessary (you can invite friends too). PSs will be on site to help...

    ReplyDelete
  46. ETA: I'm in the Pacific NW in case peeps are tracking when the cards are getting to them :)

haha - my word verification is "fecial"...

    ReplyDelete
  47. I bought two pairs of the Summer Weight Chino shorts today. These fit TTS, and are possibly the most figure flattering and comfortable pair I've tried on. They are currently on promo at $29.50 in store, but the SA wanted to only give me that price for one color.

They are currently out of stock in my size online.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I forgot to add, I didn't like the fit of the Bermuda Linen shorts I received with my 40-off order. I should have read the description closer-stating a slim leg. They are also not that comfortable and the grey is just meh.

Got my rewards card today as well.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Is anyone else's order from Saturday still in "released" mode? I keep seeing my items pop back...so frustrating!

    ReplyDelete
  50. My Friday afternoon order just shipped laaaate last night, still waiting on my Monday order. A little frustrated because the BFs Friday order is supposedly arriving today... but ordered most of it for a vacation a month for now so at least I am in no rush.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Not really a vent, but a question: for those of you who have gotten approval to return FS items, was there any special circumstance, or just a 'favor'? Just asking, because the black cotton blousanna top that was part of my FS order makes me look like the flying nun--bleck! Wondering if it is worth a call to see if they will take it back...

    ReplyDelete
  52. All my orders shipped, my Friday order came Tues., and my Sat. order comes today.

Louise-I missed the dress on 40% off :< I wanted it in a size 0 Navy, so I'll have to stalk for a popback. Have you tried it, or can you recommend another color? And yes to the Medinah! My first pair of heels from JCrew, and I feel like I could go down to a size 7 b/c the toe is a tad long. (I'm usually a 7.5 in other shoes.) But for $54 they are fun. Oh, also, the suede portion that wraps your top foot---seems a bit loose and I have to strap the ankle strap on the last notch, so over all they seems a tad big.

Keep us posted on the Shelby!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Wendy,

The magic word is "Defective". You can also say irregular. I have found that they pretty much don't give an argument for authorizing returns when you use the D-Word.

But to say you just don't like it or it doesn't fit, might not fly; unless it fits outside of what was stated on the description. But that is hard to prove either way, unless their measurements involved.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I wish they'd carry true bermuda shorts with a slim leg in lots of colors. I ordered the 9" chino shorts in shocking pink, hoping they'd fit like the paisley bermuda shorts with the same inseam. I was wrong, unfortunately. They fit like... grandma shorts. At least that's how they look on me with the wider legs. I am very sad. Thinking of exchanging for a smaller size which might be a tad tight up top but may solve the wide leg issue?

Alas, it could all be solved if they offered more than 2 pairs of cute bermuda shorts per summer :(

    ReplyDelete
  55. Wendy,

The only Final Sale items I have ever been able to return had OBVIOUS defects (return by mail at no charge using label) or did not look as pictured online--very much so and I took it to the store and had to get manager's approval for the return.

I have been stuck with clothing that did not fit or "look right." as you stated. Try and sell on ebay or give item away...

You cannot just call and say item is defective unless there truly is a defect.

I no longer buy final sale unless I am willing to deal with the fact that it might be going to my sister or a friend or Goodwill if it doesn't look right.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Wendy: I have returned a couple of FS items that were misrepresented online. For example, I once ordered a top that had raw edge fraying along the neckline. When I went back to look at the online description, there was no mention of the fraying nor could I see it in the pictures. It was clearly supposed to be there (i.e, not a defect), but because it was misrepresented online, I was able to return it with no problems. If your item was misrepresented in some way, I think you would have grounds to return it!

Regardless, it doesn't hurt to ask! If you've never returned a FS item before, they'd probably allow you as a "one time courtesy." HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Wendy: I agree that you should NOT call and say that the item is defective if it truly is not. That is part of the risk in shopping final sale. Sometimes items don't work out and then you are stuck with them. If too many people were to start calling and claim their item is defective when it truly isn't, it will eventually hurt all customers in the end.

  59. My second order shipped with no "we're sorry..." emails! I was so nervous about one of my swim peices, since they were both popbacks monday. Now I'm on to just hoping they fit!

Wendy: I was checking out about a week ago and a girl walked up and asked if she could exchange instead of return a final sale item, so of course my ears perked up. She got the "We normally aren't supposed to, but we will let you just this one time" line. I think the in-store trick is maybe to play the nice and clueless card a bit. Depending on the cashier I think you could at least get a store credit out of it.

    ReplyDelete
  60. be the bay, could not agree with you more. On all points.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Just received the Super 120s pencil skirt in mauve and I'm amazed by the extent to which the color is misrepresented online. It's not pink at all, more like a heather version of the weathered wood color from last fall - and I should know since I just held the two skirts up side by side. Very disappointing. Actually glad I paid full price so I can return it and get the warm sienna, which ironically I didn't buy in the first place because I thought it would be too similar to the weathered wood.

On a semi positive note, I also received one final sale item, the silk camisole in XXS, which I was scared would be too small but the price was so good I jumped on it anyway. This top runs HUGE! Fits me great but I have to think ladies who are truly XXS would be swimming in this thing. At least JC is consistent in their inconsistency.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Thanks for the ideas, ladies. I would certainly never lie in order to return an item, but I will go back and double-check the item description and photo and make sure it was correctly represented.

I also might ask about exchanging , since a smaller size might be less unflattering (not sure this top could ever be 'flattering').

  64. Honestly, J. Crew is my alltime favorite store. But I did have my very first negative experience with them over the past week. I placed an order online and it was shipped to the wrong address. Upon them receiving it back, they put my dress back into stock where it immediately sold out. They refunded my account and sent me an apology $25 gift card, but I'm just annoyed at how that couldn't happened. I was in constant contact with them about the package, but it just went right back into stock.

    ReplyDelete
  65. So, my order I posted about here earlier came yesterday without an email confirmation or shipped status on my online account. Very odd but I'm happy nothing had been canceled.

However, I did a WWFIFY search on a soldout item and low and behold I received it yesterday and it has a very noticeable stain all along the neck. It's so gross I can't even try it on. It has tags intact but how could the SA mail it without noticing the huge makeup stain on the inner neck (of a button down shirt)?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Grrr. Sent the wrong size of jeans that I ordered during the 40% off promo. Of course now sold out in my size. Harumph.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Rescinding my complaint last night about the Super 120s pencil skirt in mauve. I still think the color is misrepresented online (looks a shade or two lighter and more pink than in person), however the actual color has really grown on me and I've decided to keep it. Wearing it today and it's quite lovely :)

Also, I'd expected a cancellation email after I snatched up the peacock blue color in P2 at 6am yesterday morning, but it's already shipped. I suppose I could complain about the magical restocking of sizes immediately after a great sale promo ends, but I'm just happy to be getting the skirt ;)

  68. My complaint is in reference to sizing. I need things in the tall lengths, so I don't get to try things on at the store and the sizing is frustratingly inconsistent! I have had a myriad of the chinos in size 4T and they fit quite well...stretch more with age, but I can handle that after a decent amount of time and wear has passed. Bought the wide-leg cords in the same size a couple of years ago and not only was the zipper sewn crooked (!) but after two wearings they stretch so much I couldn't even walk properly in them! (I noticed I was walking very wide-legged to try to keep them up, even with a belt!) Last Christmas I decided to try the bootcut jeans in 27T (same as size 4) and LOVED them so much I ordered two pairs during last weekend's extravaganza and I'm hoping they still fit the same. I pulled out some pink, city fit cotton chinos in size 4T from last year (cotton) that I've worn only twice and recalled why...TOO BIG.

I cannot believe I would need to order a size 2...that is just RIDICULOUS. I am fine with whatever size I am...I don't need things to be cut big so I have to size down. It's just confusing and a waste of time, and quite frankly I spend so much time hemming and hawing over sizes that J. Crew probably misses out on sales with me b/c I often just give up! I am even second guessing tops now.

I chatted with a SA the other evening for the School Boy Blazer and she tried to tell me I should get a double zero...are you kidding me?! I'm 5'11" on a good day...no WAY am I that small! By her suggestions, I would be drowning in the smallest tall size they offer: 2T. She actually told me not to get that size.

Does anyone else wear tall sizes that can comment on how they purchase their tops/jackets?

*Sorry for the long rant...I'm usually just a lurker, but decided to join in the discussion.

  69. Unbelievable, I received a dress today packaged in the bag that corresponds to the actual dress I ordered, but it is NOT the dress I ordered, and not the size either. I ordered a size 4 in the Evana dress. The bag says it is the size 4 Evana dress but the actual dress in the bag is a white Cecelia in size 0. Oh, and the plastic piece that holds the tag on the dress was present but the tag was missing. I called CS about this since it was Final Sale, they graciously said they would take it back. But, of course the dress I wanted, the Evana is now sold out! I think someone pulled a fast one on JC here since the Evana dress is a Collection item and more pricey than the Cecelia. Both dresses are white.

  70. I just returned the Isola crinkled silk dress because it looks totally different on-line than in person. The dress I got had green-gray trim around the shoulder straps and underarm fabric and it looks totally black on-line. My dress looked very strange with this other color fabric attached. Has anyone else seen the Isola dress in person who could comment? Thanks in advance!

  71. For anyone wanting JCrew to resume shipments via Canada Post...I sent 2 emails to their customer service department asking the question. The response I received was to the tune of ..."difficulties due to Canada Post strike". In my emails, I stated that the strike was over and even their competitors are shipping via Canada Post. Maybe if everyone could send an email, asking the same question, their sales department may clue in to the demand
