Fellow JCA Reviews the {beloved} Ethel Trench

It is no surprise that I am in love with one Ethel Cotton Twill Trench Coat. This is the item that I am looking forward to the most when it comes to J.Crew's Fall Collection.

"Thanks!" to both Erin, and Bourbon & Pearls (in this post) who let us know that Bourbon & Pearls has reviewed the Ethel Trench.

To read her detailed first-hand review of the coat, as well as several real life images, check out her "JCrew Flared Ethel Trench Review" post.

What are your thoughts on the Ethel Trench now that you have seen some real life images? Will you order/purchase it, when it comes out at JCrew.com?

  1. I think I am pretty much S-O-L-D on the "Ethel"....love it!

  2. Ooh hoo, I love it. Dusters/full-length coats are supposed to be an emerging trend this fall & winter, but having something hit close to the floor freaks me out- especially for wearing in the muddy snow. The length on this looks perrrrfect!

Also- a tulle underskirt? Say no more!

  4. It's a beautiful trench but the flared "skirt" on this coat is a pass for me.

  5. I love love love the trench, but I would want a different color...maybe dark grey or dark purple. That color always washes me out :( I love the flared skirt, something like this trench makes an outfit. Actually, it is the outfit!

  8. This trench was on my must have list when I saw the fall look book. After seeing it on Tabitha, I'm sold. I will be ordering for sure. I love the silhouette and particularly the flared skirt with underskirt. Very chic and feminine.

The trench and the leopard pumps were the only two items I kept going back to in the fall look book and I already have the pumps on order! As far as I can tell from the preview, J. Crew is hitting it out of the park this fall.

  9. Love this…but not sure if I could actually get much use out of it. I’m petite and have hips..so this probably wouldn’t work for me…but I can dream. :)

How much will this retail for? Any luck this will be out in the first fall roll out in stores? :) The store manager told me the first fall roll out is July 26, I believe.

Btw, the color in the review looks more beige than online, which actually would work much better for my skin tone. Anyone else noticed that? But if this is the case, another J.Crew color mislead from online to real life. Ugh.

  10. Chloe, I echo your sentiment about the tulle underskirt :)

This is definitely something I have to have. The icon trench didn't work for me because the sleeves were too short. I can only hope the sleeves on this will be a tad longer, or be take-down-able. Can't wait to try this beauty!

  11. TXGirl14, I believe a fellow JCA found out from CS that it will be $395.

  12. Hi all,

Yes it does look beige, I was crushed to to receive it and find out it was khaki - it makes me look ill.
That said, it is a stunning 'piece' - it is very special, not a throw on everyday coat, it has to be 'dressed' to look good, and I think it will look better on the taller JCA's.
    The underskirt is beyond amazing.

  13. Bourbon -- just checked out your review and pics, and I think you're crazy for returning it! Ok, not really crazy...I totally get your rationale. But srsly -- it looked fantastic on you. You've got a nice slim waist, the fit was gorgeous. Can't do much about the colour, I suppose, but really it was lovely, with heels and with the crops & flats!

I would love to try it, maybe it'll hit the new Toronto store next month. But I have a pretty great trench from Micheal Kors and can't really justify buying a new one...le sigh.

  14. Thanks J.CrewJD! Will probably pass for that price due to the climate I live in. Not much need for coats here. :(

Already waiting to wear my two other trench coats sitting in the back of my closet looking so sad! ha.

Can't wait to see who gets it! :)
