J.Crew Email: Travel-inspired style...

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Irina, who shared with us the latest email from J.Crew.

The email features their picks for "SOUVENIRS OF SUMMER". It even has its own category (click here to shop online). The concept reminds of "Jenna's Picks".

I checked out one of the items, the Miansai® Hook Bracelet (Item 47044; $55.00). It is so cute and perfect for Summer. But what is up with that price tag?! This looks like a DIY project for less than $5, not $55.

What are your thoughts on the Souvenirs of Summer? Do you agree with the items selected? Which items would make your souvenirs list?

  2. Alexis, I totally agree with you on the hook bracelet. Way over priced for what looks like a bungee cord. And clumsy me would be sure to catch the hook on my clothing, skin or who knows what else. I realize it's not overly sharp but I'm sure I would find some way to do damage with it.

The cassis bikini is cute but unfortunately only comes in a bandeau top that won't work for my larger bust as well as other tops. They sure are pushing the Rumi dress. I've read mixed reviews on it so far, it's not on my wishlist.

  3. If anyone is interested, my nine year old makes string bracelets and sells them at the beach for a quarter. Maybe she'll mark them up to 50 cents this summer!

I am so missing the usual, wide selection of colorful, blue-soled J. Crew flip flops. My kids and I live in them all summer, and have bought more pairs that I would care to admit.

The only ones I've seen this year are at the outlet, and from our experience the outlet soles wear out really fast...one pair got a hole in them during a one-week vacation.

  4. I like the rumi dress, but for about $25. My guess is that it will still be around and make it to that price and then I'll buy it. :)

  5. Hooks, bracelet, kids running around you at that eye level...just validates that the extra stupid people have done it again at jcrew!

  6. Not seeing any evidence so far that Mickey et al are focusing on what their customers really want from JC!

The bracelet looks more "Rainy Day Craft at Day Camp" than "J. Crew" ...

  7. That hook bracelet looks dangerous! How is that not going to get caught on something or scratch someone?!?

And for $55? I'm not drinking that much Kool-Aide J Crew.

  8. Wait, if the hook has you worried, but you really want an overpriced bracelet...J.Crew is also selling similar bracelets for men -- without the hook: the Miansai® rope bracelet is a mere $68, or if you really want to splurge, the wrap bracelet is $105!

Or you could go to home depot, spend about $5 and keep the kids busy for an hour.

  10. These are both OT:

First, I placed an order on Thursday night, it was shipped on Friday and it will be delivered on Tuesday! I have never had an order from Jcrew deliver so fast here on the west coast. Yeah for fast shipping!

Second, I just got an email from my local Factory store telling me that new arrivals are coming to the factory store on June 16th.

    Have a wonderful Monday JCAs!

  11. I love the pic - looks like a polyvore. That bracelet is a waste.

  12. Or we can all make those adoraable bracelets for free w/the straps from our JC bags! I have the straps ready to go to make one for me and my daughter!

  14. No bracelet at that price for me either.

I agree with xoxo - they sure are trying to push the Rumi dress. The stores I visited (3 in the past week) had many of these in stock still. They are just not selling. I tried a size 0 and it looked terrible on me. I will post reviews about it a bit later.

Also agree that the cassis bikini is pretty, but it wouldn't work for me either.

    LOL JCK!

  15. I hope they put that cassis print on other items. I love the colors.

  16. Went to the store in the Mall of America today. Saw the Rumi, not really inspired. That is the first time in a long time I walked out with no purchases. I tried too, nothing. The store was messy too boot. Not that is really matters, just an observation.

  17. I have the hook bracelet and love it. It's not cheap, but people spend way more on ugly, all-metal bracelets. It looks better than most people could make at home, and it's not sharp or dangerous. Calm down, people.

  18. Dittos to everyone about that ridiculous hook bracelet! I'd love to make braided bracelets with my kids, though. Anyone have links to ones you have tried in addtion to that cute one made from JC bag handles posted the other day?

I'd like the farmer's market tote if it didn't have those skinny straps. They would really dig into my shoulders once I loaded the bag at up the farmer's market (or anywhere else). Maybe another example of the marginal quality we've been seeing from JC lately?

Hope they get their act together soon. I've been a JCA for years but Anthro and Lands End Canvas are getting my $$ lately.
