JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I just bought the Boy Shirt with the sequin placket, in black, and am not sure how to style it for summer. Any tips are welcome--thanks!

  3. It's an oldie, but a goodie...but I never quite figured out the best way to wear my Trastevere paisley mini skirt from several years ago.

I love the print, but struggle to find the right top for it.

    Any suggestions?

  4. Wendy,
    savvy shopper,
    JCK,

I would put WHITE with all of your choices for the best summer look. White jeans, white pants, white shorts, white skirt, and white shirt (linen!).

Next option? Pair it with a neutral for a update. Khaki, "Fawn", "Birchwood"....all these rich hues will blend beautifully.

I'm headed to Polyvore to mix some sets for you....

  5. I know this is off topic, but could anyone help me with sizing issues? Does the Perfect shirt in linen (42841) run tts? I'm a b/c cup and mostly wear 2/4 in button down shirts, but I thought I read somewhere this style runs big. TIA!

  6. I have the black pretty petal mini skirt and have a hard time figuring out what to wear. Any thoughts for tops and shoes? I prefer to stick with a casual look. Thanks!

  7. I'm wearing what I call my FFM outfit today -- it incorporates 2 of my biggest styling challenges: the striped sequin henley in seashoe beige and the contrast-stitch perfect shirt. I'm got a white denim skirt and a tobacco-colored belt on, along with my snowball necklace. I look pretty damn good for an old lady! :D

  8. Kim,

I looked up the skirt on the J. Crew website and thought the photo they had on the item page gave great guidance for a casual look to the skirt.
    Check it out...

As shown, a casual top and sandals mix nicely with the skirt to keep it casual. A denim shirt or chambray top would look good as well. Try pairing it with a sneaker (Jack Purcells or Tretorns) for a fun look.

    HTH!

  9. I have a pair of the black twill minnie pants. I love them so much because they look so Audrey Hepburn on the models, but I cannot figure out how to wear them without feeling like I'm out in a pair of leggings. They're slightly low cut, so I'm not comfortable pairing them with just a simple tee like they do in the magazine. Any suggestions on what to pair them with, and how to style the outfit?

  10. Katie, I always wear a long cardigan with my minnies. Sometimes I wear a silk top (one of the many sleeveless ones J.Crew has made over the years) or sometimes just a tank top. But always the long cardigan. I think that helps with the feeling like leggings issue!

Oh, and wearing heels helps dress them up, too.

I am typically a 2/4 in jcrew tops and went with the xs...it is still a little loose but in a good way. I love mine!

  12. Does anyone have any good ideas for the Vineyard pencil skirt? I love it but have no idea what to wear it with.

  13. Any ideas on the flora maxi skirt? It has such a small floral pattern... all I can think of is a solid t and a jean jacket. Maybe that's good enough :)
