Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  3. I'm very impressed with Lands' End Weekend Wide-Leg Chinos. I wear a 4 in JC pants and ordered a 4 in the LE pants and they fit perfectly. I love that they will also hem them for free - I went for 32.5" so that I could wear them with heels and they are the perfect length (I'm just shy of 5'5"). I may go back and get another pair with a shorter hem so I can wear them with flip-flops this summer. For $19.99, they're well worth it.

  4. @Silver lining, Land's End hems pants for free? Does that include pants bought online if I brought them to Sears/Lands End for hemming? I just ordered a pair of their white matchstick jeans and I know they're going to be very long. Keeping my fingers crossed that they'll fit nicely in the bum... I've never tried on their jeans before and the chinos I've tried on ran large.

  5. 40% off one full price item at Talbots - today only, in store only.

They gave out coupons recently with in store purchases. Don't know if they will honor the promo without the coupon, but it is worth a try if there is a higher price item you have your eye on!

  6. I wish I had one of those 40% off Talbots coupons, but sadly didn't make a purchase at the time that they were giving them out.

I did see on their site they have 30% off some items. Two items I've been eyeing are the Tuileries and Daisy eyelet skirts. Unfortunately I have no reason to get them other than they're pretty. I go nowhere that warrants pencil skirts.

  7. Connor, I have no personal experience, but I noticed that there are certain pans that LE will leave unhemmed and you tell them the length you want them. They shorten to that length & then ship. I don't know that it's available on all pants.

Lands End Canvas - Free shipping with SCCANVAS & pin 1202 thru 4/19, 11:59p CST.

  8. Gap - 30% off regular price, 15% off sale with GAPLOOK thru 4/14. Not valid at Gap, Gap Outlet, or Gap Generation stores. Not valid on Japan Relief Ts, maternity pants, baby sleepwear, Design Edition shoes, or on third-party products.

  9. I got the tropical maxi dress from Boden and I absolutely love it. Soft and silky, yet substantial, fabric, bra friendly, flattering, and well made. Boden is offering 20% off purchases of $200 or more, but I expect that they'll offer a similar discount without a minimum soon.

  10. LaurenPhD:

May I include your review in my Boden Weekly Review Roundup tonight? I like to ask before I use people's reviews, unless I have been told specifically by folks that I can use their reviews (some of my regulars are all, don't worry, use them anytime).

Alexis, I would normally ask through e-mail, but couldn't find an e-mail address for LaurenPhD. :)

LaurenPhD, if you would prefer you can answer me at my e-mail: dinagideon AT aim DOT com. BTW, I think that dress looks very pretty, and I can see why you chose it.

As of right now, my 15% off plus free shipping and returns Boden maternity coupon is working (it is in the sidebar of my "My Superfluities" blog) and it works on non-maternity items. It also has no minimum, which is a bonus if you wants something for under $200.

    Talk soon!

  11. Dina, you're welcome to use my review. I'll also add this: I usually avoid maxi dresses because my lower legs are probably my best feature, but this dress was too gorgeous to pass up. Now if it would only get warm enough to wear it here in Ohio! (I'll shoot you an e-mail off-list, too. Alexis, thanks for humoring us.)

  12. dinagideon & Lauren PhD: Absolutely! Just happy to see our community help each other where they can. :)

  13. Boden there is 20% off and free gift when you spend 150. This gem fell out of my Sunday edition of the WSJ a week or two ago and I forgot about it. I love Boden stuff but its always a wee bit out of my price range (I know that sound ridiculous coming from a JCREW shopper, but maybe because I haven't bought anything to get hooked yet?)

    Expires June 17

    www.bodenusa.com/wsj or code WSJ1

  14. My Sears store's Land's End and Land's End Canvas sections have some clearance items for $6.99..some good basics though the kids sections were picked clean :) ... went back and forth on a sweatshirt from JC (30% off sale section) and a thinner, cheaper sweatshirt from LEC, but ended up getting a drifter sweater in cotton for $6.99...I love deals!

  16. For Canuck shoppers, Eddie Bauer has 30% extra off sale items, and BR has 25% extra off sale at the B&Ms.

Purchased a few LEC cardis, including the Heritage. Sized down 1 size from my usual JC cardi size, great quality for the price (bought sale colours). A more wallet-friendly cardi for the warmer months.

  17. Ann Taylor Loft must be doing very well this year, the stuff is flying off of the web site. They're stuff is cuter than ever but doesn't quite reach that cool edge (and I would say quality too, though some of you would disagree) of the J Crew clothing. Loft's pricing is certainly attractive, I bought a super cute brand-new-this-season jacket with a 30% off promo for a total price of only $66. That thing sold fast, too, I'm glad I got mine when I did.

  18. audball,

My mom and were shopping the sales at Lands End at Sears today and came away with some great deal in ladies as well as children's clothing. Amazing prices!!!! Super quality. And guranteed with no time limit to return if need. I love LE:)

  19. RSizzler, thanks for the Boden code! I checked it out and it's actually for 20% off with free shipping and free returns. If you spend $150, you get a free "sparkly pebble necklace." The necklace isn't available to purchase, but you can find it if you Google it. It's actually pretty cute, IMO.

  20. Boden started a mid season 40% off sale this morning. Lasts for a week. I just got a price adjustment on some items I recently purchased at full price.

  21. No problem, Lauren!

Also, Genny, I just took the plunge and ordered a skirt and a shirt from the 40% off section AND I used the WSJ1 promo code.

There you have it, I shop at Boden now.

  22. Ladies, if any of you are Talbot's fans, get thee to a Tal's outlet. They're currently having up to 75% off the lowest markdown price. I got pima ballet-neck tees for $4 apiece, cardigans from $9-12, and chunky patent heels for $29. These are not "factory" pieces - they're B&M overstocks from last August-October. Lots of bright colors if you like kelly green, tomato, gold, navy. The additional markdowns are for 4 days only (starting today).

  23. Sightly OT, but Genny's post reminded me:

While I was at my Sears, a woman came in with something like 6 white polos shirts. She was returning them *after* they had been worn and permanently stained...(I'm a horrible eavesdropper :P). She said, "My husband told me to come right back here and return these if the stains didn't come out and none of them did." The Sears SA just asked if it was an online or in-store purchase and started the ball rolling for her refund!

Not that I would see everyone doing this, but it's interesting that there's a "no hassle" policy for LE, which is great.

  24. Lands End - $10 off $50 or more + free shipping with OPRAH11 and pin 4281 thru 5/15, 11:59p CST. Says it's good on Land's End merch. Doesn't exclude Land's End Canvas on the card, so I guess you can try.

  25. 40% off with a coupon at BR only for one or two items. Used it for a tan trench coat (21st century cut----above the knees) and a wool-linen one-button indigo blue blazer.

  26. Ann Taylor has 40% off everything and free ship on $150!! Use code SPRING40. The website says this promo is also going on in stores.

  27. audball,

What a strange thing to see happen at Sear/LE. Yes, they have a no hassle returns policy that keeps me shopping there. I have only used it to return unworn items or items that just sat in the closet never worn.

I bought jeans from them online for my daughter in a size or two larger for her to grow into. She tried them on and they were not comfortable in a certain area:)
Almost 2 years later I returned them/unworn/orginal packaging no problem.

  28. There is also an NT11 code for Boden that I used for 20% off no minimum and free shipping and returns if you don't want to spend $150 which I did not. I don't know when it expires.

The sparkly necklace looks very nice though; nice promo.

    RSizzler,
I own many Boden skirt. I hope you like yours;)

  29. Gigi, thanks so much for the Lands End code. It definitely works for Canvas merchandise because that's all I ordered. Always nice to save a little $$$.

  30. I recently made a purchase online from Banana Republic. Unfortunately, the package was stolen after it was delivered when I wasn't home. BR refused to give me a refund or reship the items. BR also told me that they don't insure their shipments because they would "go out of business" if they had to ensure safe delivery and/or reship lost items for everyone. Now I am out $300. I'm not sure if others have experience this, but I am baffled by BR's poor customer service. any ideas on how to get a refund or get the word out on this?!

    ReplyDelete
  31. connie, if you used a credit card call them and tell them what happened. They might be able to refund your money.

  32. Recently got a ruffle blouse from the Gap that will be great for work--reminds me a lot of various J Crew blouses, but for a much cheaper price! Check it out here:

  33. connie - I would also file a report w/UPS if that's who delivered it.

Loft's - 40% off everything sale continues. Today could be the last day as the promo started last week. Their "limited time only" style really annoys. At any rate, irl pics here and here.
