J.Crew Email: Straight from Italy: our spring ballet flats

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Ketan, who shared the following email J.Crew sent this morning.

The email features J.Crew's Ballet Flats (click here). I own several (as in too many!) ballet flats from J.Crew. I love the look– from the narrow-ish style to the fabulous designs.

J.Crew has done a nice job upgrading their flats since last year. Refer to the "J.Crew Reveals Anatomy of Ballet Flats" post. I can walk around in the new versions for most of the day. (Which is pretty awesome, because J.Crew's old flats were not very comfortable!)

What are your thoughts on J.Crew's ballet flats? Are there any ballet flats from J.Crew's latest arrivals that you are excited about?

  1. i love the bowdelaire ballet flats but i don't know how much i would actually wear them. the sparkly bow wouldn't exactly fly in my conservative office and i live in sandals when out of the office.

  2. Stacy, I also love the Bowdelaires. I wish I knew how they fit size-wise--anyone tried these on?

The green are already gone in size 10 so I fear the sandstone will soon be gone, too.

  4. The Bowdelaire's fit true to size, and are absolutely adorable. I would pick them up before they're all gone!

  5. Rosie,

The freeship code is very exciting news.

Too bad sale items are still final sale!!!! I won't be using the code just b/c I refuse to buy final sale-- but still is a nice gesture on JCrew's part.

I think I am already for spring anyway clothing wise:)

  6. blondie4221- how's the padding on the bowdelaire?

    ReplyDelete
  7. I want them all! (can't afford them all) :)

  8. Stacy--its pretty similar to the padding in the Kerrington's (if that helps), I think they have a nice cushion. They need a little breaking in at the front since there is no elastic, but I think they are a great purchase for spring!

  9. How is the sizing for the Classic Leather Ballet Flats? Just wondering if I should order my regular size or size up.

  10. I like Ballet Flats as a concept, and the J Crew Flats are really cute, but I don't do flats. It's a good thing, I'm already buying too many of J Crew's other shoes. :)

I actually find flats uncomfortable. Do those of you who buy them buy them for comfort as well as style, or just for style? For walking, I prefer a low heel.

  11. I thought I'd share this Dear Leader chuckle with you all today ... courtesy of a New York Times article on the rebirth of Starbucks (it's an interesting story)....

Friends and colleagues agree that he is as fanatical as ever about Starbucks. Millard Drexler, the chief executive of J. Crew, recently e-mailed Mr. Schultz to complain that the coffee lids at a Starbucks on Astor Place in Manhattan kept spilling coffee on his shirt. Mr. Schultz’s reply: “On it.”

Mr. Drexler, who has a habit of e-mailing C.E.O.’s with complaints, says: “I can give you many more examples when they say, ‘I’ll send this to a research department or a gatekeeper.’ ” But, he says of Starbucks, “to have that kind of quality control they have around the world is pretty extraordinary.”

  12. maryeb, I would definitely not size up for the classic ballet flats. But I also don't do flats because I don't find them comfortable.

  13. Ah, and re: the topic ... for some reason I can't really explain, I've been wearing flats almost exclusively for the past year or so. Sadly I'm addicted to an extinct shoe, a very pointy-toed J Crew plain leather flat. I have now stockpiled 3 pair of black ones and one pair of red ones, lol.

But I do have some of the regular JC flats ... I am usually an 8.5 in most shoe brands, but I take a 9 in JC just to have a teeny bit of room in the shoe. The Kerrington flats are lovely!

One thing I will say is that my big toe does not poke upward in JC flats, and they do in nearly every other brand I've tried, which drives me mad. In Gap's city flat, which I want to love, i have to size up to a *10* to feel comfortable in the shoe. Craziness.

I wear flats for ease of getting around. I like to move fast, and I'm always on the go. My son is 5 and is a little fireball, and I can't navigate with him the way I like to in a fussy shoe. High heels slow me down too much.

I absolutely adore J Crew's shoes; I lust after many of them, but a 3-inch heel is just so impractical for my everyday life. I'm trying to be real about what I will and won't wear, you know?

If I do wear a heel, it's usually a kitten heel or a solid/chunky boot heel. For casualwear when it's warm, I wear leather sandals with a padded footbed.

    *is lame*

  14. Maryeb, I love the Classic Ballet flats because most other flats (even at J. Crew) hurt the backs of my ankles. The Classics have a lower rise in the back and less of a "c" shape at the back of the heel.

I can imagine for some that this may cause some to slip out/walk out of the shoes, but I put heel grips in almost all of my shoes which are super cheap at the drug store.

Also, they are pretty true to size. I would not size down even a half size.

    Hope this helps :)

  15. i love all of my jcrew flats! they aren't the most comfortable but its a sacrifice i make for fashion. :)

i usually wait for them to get dirt cheap ($60 and under) but usually by then none are left in my size. the Quorra and Oxford flats are next on my list :)

  16. Rosie, thanks for sharing that bit of fabulous info! Did that come in an email? Id didn't see it on the website. For me it says free shipping for orders over $100.

On topic: I love all the flats. They look like all different kinds of delicious candy lined up like that. But I can never decide which style would work best with what I've got so I never get any of them. I have one pair: the leatherette lace up ballets in black which I will say are quite comfortable and very cute.

  17. maryeb -- I find the Classic Ballet Flats run a bit large. I'm a size 7.5 but take a 7 in the CBFs. And I love them...I'm already on my second black pair because I wore the first pair to death, and I just picked up a pair in Tawny Sand because the colour is SO pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Elaine I just missed my stop because of you. LMAO.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I agree about the Classic running large - I usually don't even bother trying less than a 7 1/2 in a closed toe shoe - but I take that style in a 7.

  20. I think many of their flats are really cute but I haven't tried any yet. Full price is a bit much for me and their shoes have proven to be all over the place in sizing for me. Maybe when we go back to regular sale I'll give them a try. :)

OT: Here we go again with the different promos - I'm getting free shipping on $150+ with SHIP150.

    Sheesh.

  21. Booooo to selective promos! Unless they're for cardholders, which would actually make SENSE. lol!

  22. I want every pair... too bad I can't afford them! I agree that JC flats are uncomfortable but they are cute enough that I don't care. The new ones do seem to be better in the comfort department.

  23. I can't wear flats, so can't comment except to say that if there is any improvement, I attribute it to you and your wonderful blog, Alexis, for providing a forum for all those JCAs who repeatedly pointed out the shortcomings of the previous version. Way to go! (and it shows who reads the blog… now on to short-waisted crotch-high dresses!)

  24. My jaw dropped when I noticed that some trashed J Crew Liv flats went for over 80 bucks on eBay recently. Wow!
