J.Crew Email: Our latest carry-all crush

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Desert Flower & Ketan, who shared the following email J.Crew sent this morning.

The email features the Lockwood Collection, which includes:
  • Lockwood Bucket Bag (item 37129; $138.00)
  • Lockwood Hobo (item 37078; $258.00)
  • Lockwood Satchel (item 37077; $238.00)
I love the look of the leather and the colors offered (masala chai, mineral green, black, & soft sandalwood). However, I am not "wow-ed" by any of the bags overall-style. I will reserve finally judgment after I see them in-person. (I find J.Crew bags to be more lust-worthy after an in-person visit.) ;)

What are your thoughts on the Lockwood Collection? Have you seen in-person or own any of the pieces? If so, please share.

  1. We never get bags at our store! I'm looking forward to reviews of these too!

  2. Same here- I have to order the bags to see them in person. (sigh). That said, I'm almost always "wowed" when I see them in person. I love the price & look of the bucket version. It reminds me of a Coach version I saw long ago...

  3. I'm surprised at how well priced they are. While I would never buy them at full price from J.Crew, knowing they'd go on sale eventually, I would have expected somewhere in the range of $300-400.

While they're nothing unique, they seem like very classic and versatile bags.

  4. I was recently considering the Coach vintage bucket bag in British tan, but I'm wondering if the bucket bag in the chai color might be another option to consider. I wish my store carried bags. It's hard for me to get a sense of a bag's "capacity" without seeing it. Plus, it says the strap fully expands to 22" yet it says it is a crossbody bag -- I assume that means 22" drop (ie, 22 inches front and back)?

  5. I love the satchel in all the colours.

If anyone has a coupon and no plans for using it, I would really appreciate it.

  6. Lately I haven't been loving J.Crew's bag offerings. For me, nothing can top the Borge Garveri (is that how you spell it?) tumbled leather bags of 2007/2008. Gorgeous leather, gorgeous colors both neutral and bright. I tend to gravitate toward colored bags so I will pass on these. I own one black and one brown bag and that is enough!

I do love the handles on these, though. They look like they would be comfy to carry.

  7. I'd love to see them in person too. I like the bucket one. That said, I would never ever pay full price for JC bags. I'd be looking at designer bags for a bit more.

  8. I love the Lockwood Hobo in all the colors. My store actually does get handbags now, just not all of the colors of each bag. Maybe I'll try to make a visit soon to see if they've come in yet.

  9. These look so smooshy and soft, I want them all. With all the studs, chains and zippers I haven't wanted most of the J.Crew bags for the past couple of years, except for the elusive Bisbee satchel that got such rave reviews. I'll definitely try the Lockwood bucket and maybe the hobo. Or the satchel. I can't decide. Loving the minimalist direction on these bags. :^)

  10. I think of the older Coach bags when I see these. I don't buy J Crew bags (have too many other holy grail purses already, lol) but these don't do anything for me. I see the smooth leather and thing, one scratch or spot and it's kaput. ... I'm tough on my bags, so they need to be tough too!

  11. I ordered the bucket bag, in the ivory color, online. The leather is super-soft, and it's a cute bag (agree with those who said it reminded them of older Coach bags), but the bag was spotted all over with sort of tan colored dots that made it look as though something had been spilled on it even though it's brand new. I'm going to complain and send it back. This is what I get for buying "Made in China' leather, I supposed. I wouldn't recommend buying this bag, particularly in a light color, unless you can see it in person, as the dye job is not high quality.

  12. Hi Everyone
I ordered the Lockwood hobo in green and received it yestserday. It's great looking and a perfect size, plus good pockets. Within an hour of using it though it's practically ruined- the leather seems really susceptible to anything brushing against it. I now have stamps all over one side of the bag from the tag of my jeans hitting the bag while I was walking. I'm thinking about calling to ask for a refund but I wanted to hear if anyone else is having a similar experience. Thanks!
