Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SUMMER & FALL sale, or to see some new FALL arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Nope. After a couple of nice purchases (ochre pencil skirt, Factory Kelsey for just $13.99, some old school JC on the JCA exchange) I am taking a break from shopping for a while. I need to get better use out of the stuff I already have. Have a great weekend everyone!

    Yay!

  3. I did go yesterday, and there's tons of stuff on sale at 2nd markdowns. I fell in love with the Minnies in cobblestone which were $39.99, but I recently won an auction for the City-Fit Herringbone Portman pants from Fall 08 on Ebay :) So I'm good for now! Also, there were no new arrivals at my B&M, which will arrive Wednesday.

  6. I have to make returns, so I will check things out.
FS looks empty to me. They better move some items over if they want to move stuff.

  7. I'll wait until next week when the new arrivals are in the store.

  8. I did bite on the 30% off - the black arrow sweater jacket & the bayberry flounce shirt. But I think I'll return the moto zip I bought on the sweater promo

  9. I won't be going this weekend, but had to share one of the biggest price discrepancies I've seen. The Benny blazer (29214) in the light grey is now $39.99 in stores... and still at $168 (FP) online! Wow.

  10. Where is the factory tab? Am I confused about how that works? Isn't it Friday?

  11. Question for you all: I bought an item back in August and am a few days over the 60 day return policy (this was back when the return policy was still 60 days...plus I bought it online). I now need to exchange it for another size and still have the tags on it. The item is also still full-price. I'm 99.9% sure that my store is out of the size I need. If I take it back to a store, can I exchange it by ordering my size on the red phone? I've never done this before so I'm worried it won't work... Gosh, exchanging something shouldn't make me so nervous!

  12. Well, I bit on Final Sale and picked up another jersey lomellina bikini for $13.99 a piece and a pair of matching wedge flip-flops. Not much else I wanted in FS so added in a full price item that was on my wishlist to take advantage of the free shipping.

They haven't been updating the sale section on the weekends but I'll check back tomorrow just in case my popback magically appears.

  13. Hi AppGal - you'll get a merchandise credit (gift card) for what you paid (there should be verbiage on your packing slip for 'returns over 60 days'), then you can place an order over the red phone using the gift card as payment. Easy peasy.

(But what did you buy that didn't go down in price in 60 days?!) ;)

  14. Hmm, Momoberry piqued my interest with her report of second markdowns, but I don't think there is anything I'm dying to have. No, probably not going.

  15. silver_lining: Thanks! Sounds easy enough. It was the double-serge pencil skirt in bronzed ochre. I've been eating too many scones and now I need to go up a size :) I know...of all the things I buy, this one doesn't go on sale within a month. Sheesh :)

  16. fyi...for anyone who was hoping for the cambridge cable v-neck sweater (the crewneck was the only one out for a while), it is now "hidden" on the website and in the same yummy colors as the other sweaters. Hooray! I like the v-neck so much better than the crewnecks. In fact, I'm wearing one from last year, in plum raisin, right now! :)

  17. I also have returns to make, so I'll no doubt have a look around at the same time. :) I hope I don't find anything for less $$ than I just paid online!

  18. Someone posted about the Long Benny Blazer being $39.99 in the stores. I bought it in the light grey and LOVE it. Very comfy and flattering. Just a tip!

Also, does anyone have the Brompton hobo or purse? I'm waiting for them to be marked down, and they don't have them in my store to check out. I'm curious how well the leather will hold up, given what happens to some of the clothes. TIA!

  19. Amy: How is the fit on the benny blazer? Is it pretty true to size? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Amy - I have the Brompton Purse in espresso and I love it. I've had it for about 3 months now and I use it 3-4 times a week. The only quality issue I have noticed is that around the handle's brass circles that connect the handle to the purse, a few black strings have popped out. I cut them, and all was well.

I spray all my leather with proctector and I got caught in a few bad summer rainstorms with this purse and it's just fine. I recommend it. I've seen the carob color in-store and it is also beautiful. HTH!

  21. Amy, I have the Brompton purse but haven't started using it yet, because I can't decide if I should return it. So I am not sure about overall durability, but I did notice that the leather scratches very easily -- I've put some slight scratches on it just getting it in and out of the dust bag. :(

One odd thing about the Brompton leather, though, at least in the carob color -- there are 2 kinds of carob leather that look very different. If you look at the carob photos on the website, the purse is smooth leather in a chocolatey color, while the hobo is more like tumbled leather and much darker. At first I assumed it was just different lighting or something, but I actually ordered the hobo first and it was that dark leather, then ordered the purse and it was the lighter brown. But in the stores, I've seen the purse in the darker carob too! The darker leather was nice too, and did seem like it might be tougher -- if you like that color (or something other than carob) you might not have a problem with scratches...

  22. On the road & took a break to look at website. Well. If anyone sees the Liquid Gold Tank IRL, please let me know if it is lined and if so, with what. Have been wondering whether picture of model's right side (on web site) is photographic mishap.

  23. Has anyone seen/tried the Kingston suede ankle boots? I always regretted not getting the metropolitan ankle boots last year and these seem a good substitute.

  24. If you were deciding between the Thandie blazer or the Factory Schoolboy blazer, which would you get?? Assume I need neither of them, lol!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Also, went into my B&M today. There are tons of markdowns. I bought a Flouncette blouse for $29.99. I can return it if I change my mind. The brocade top is marked down (sorry, can't remember price). The Khloe cami is $19.99. That beautiful blue sheer blouse w/the beige dots is $59.99. I believe it's still FP online. there was so much more, but I wasn't in the mood to really dig around, though. I am going back again w/another return I forgot, so I'll look more then.

  27. Michelle - I have the Benny in the dark grey color. I would say it runs just a tad big. The sleeves are definitely long (which is good for long-armed me). I'm usually a 6 in jackets since I have fairly broad shoulders to go along with my long arms. I have a fairly small bust and waist (at least relatively). If I remember correctly, I ended up taking the 4 instead of the 6 though both worked - the bigger size was just a tad slouchier, which is probably what they were going for with this blazer. But the 4 fit a bit more tailored and still had room for my shoulders.

For size comparison, the retail Schoolboy was WAY too short in the arms - hit just above the wrist on me - but the factory version fit me great (both in 6).

Anyway, I really like it. Easy to dress up or down, comfy, warm and not itchy despite being unlined.

I'll double check the size I ended up with when I get home, and repost if I was wrong. :)

I know, long post, but HTH!

  28. Thanks so much for the info Amanda! I'm going to go check it out at my store later tonight :)

  29. JRuby18, if the Thandie will fit you well (slightly cropped in torso, long arms, snug shoulders) I'd go for that. I see many blazers like the schoolboy from JCrew and other retailers. Also, you didn't specify but the marled thandie is gorg - the raw seams are subtle and the texture is just SO cozy. It's like a light jacket/peacoat to me and I love it!

  30. wellfedfred, I don't get what you mean about the model's right side in the liquid gold cami, maybe it's corrected already. I do think they went crazy photoshopping the torso in the back view because I don't recall that model looking quite so ridonkulous ever before. Maybe it's the side pockets on those drawstring shorts accentuating her "assets".

  31. Wow Silver_lining, that is some crazy price difference. If it wasn't for this JCA blog we wouldn't know the price differences... It really makes me not want to order online.

I won't be going to JC this weekend. Happy weekend everyone!

  32. jruby, I would definitely go with the Thandie blazer in the Marled version. It is beautiful!

  33. Wow - got an impressive deal at the Copley store in Boston. The double drape Justine jacket was $49.99 (it's still $198 online). There was a 4 and a 10 left, I believe. I keep debating whether it's flattering or not, but something about it draws me in. With matchstick jeans I think it will be a winner.

  34. Hi All! New to posting but long time lurker! :^) I went to my local B&M today, no additional 30% off of sale, but I scored the marled Thandie jacket marked down to $49.99! It's still listed for $99.99 online FS (before 30% discount). I decided to size up, as I wanted to layer a cardigan underneath without feeling too constricted in the chest area.

  35. Thank you for the feedback on the Brompton bags!! I'm still waiting for a sale...hope it happens soon!

Michelle, as for the Benny blazer, I agree with Amanda. I am usually a size 6 in everything, and I took the 4 in the Benny. I got the light grey color because I felt like it looked a little more casual. The arms are lined but the body is not. Like Amanda said, it isn't itchy at all, and I'm very sensitive to itchy wool. I agree that the arms are long too. I'm 5' 10", and the arm length is perfect for me, maybe a little generous. I'd say it runs a size big. If you want to put a sweater under it, then you might be able to take your regular size. HTH!

  36. I did! I have an addiction! I got the new silk and lace shell, jackie cardigan in dark rosewood, the cest bon t-shirt, two pairs of bistro pants for twenty bucks (!!) and a silk Twyla tank. :)

  37. One of the SA recognized me, which means I've been doing too much shopping lately. I'm more of a browser, though, than an actual buyer in store, especially since I wear petites. She offered to be my PS. Any advice on how best to use their services? I never buy FP.

  38. OK, just got back from local factory b&m. They usually have some random retail items mixed in the clearance section... but what I saw today was WAY beyond that.

All of these retail items were in the factory store, just mixed in with the regular "made for factory" items.

Long Benny Blazer #29214 for $49.99 (It had the tag on it with the "Original Price: $168, Our Price: $128) But it had one of those hang tags that said $49.99 that they often do at the factory stores. AND they had both colors. And alot of sizes.

Forever cardigan, #18169, in heather gray and black pine, for $69.50 plus 30% off. All the other colors of the "forever cardigan" were actually the factory version. The retail ones were just on the table mixed in.

Bi stretch wool minnies, #28432, in cobblestone and heather charcoal, for $39.99. Only sizes smaller than 8 though. I tried them on... wow, how unflattering!!! And so narrow at the ankle... I have pretty slim calves and I could barely get them on. For the record I have and love the Collection italian wool minnies from last year.

Haya Pullover Hoodie, in a light beige color, item #29437, sizes XS and Large only, for $59.50 - 40%.

Felted Wool Mini, item #28260, for $69.50 minus $10. They had several colors.

So, the moral of the story is, if you live anywhere near a factory store and are interested in current, full price retail offerings for less, you MIGHT want to head over and check it out. There were also some random retail camis on the clearance rack, which was an additional 30% off.

Oh, and there were a bunch of retail tees, like the C'est Bon one, and a pink one with beads on it. Didn't pay close attention, but they were less than the current retail price.

They had the factory Belle skirts for $49.97 - 30% in three different patterns.

Oh, and this was the outlet in Waterloo, NY.

  40. No new arrivals in either of the stores near me, but I did finally try on the Arrow sweater jacket that so many JCAS have raved about! It was quite large on me, and not in a flattering way. It looked kind of stupid. One of you probably could have fit in there with me. However, it was super comfy, so I do get what all the fuss is about!

Crossing my fingers that the 3 XXS sweaters on their way to me actually fit...

    ReplyDelete
  41. So, on Em's suggestion, I went to my local Factory store (I'm in CO) - unfortunately I'm WAY closer to it than my retail B&M. They had just about everything she described at my location as well, but - get this - they had the retail Arrow sweater! I was a little shocked to see that! Only the heather charcoal, and only in 2 sizes - one small and two mediums. It was marked down to $99 or so near a sign that said "extra $5 off sweaters." They must've made a TON of these!
