Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SUMMER & FALL sale, or to see some new FALL arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. At the new and improved price, I'm looking for the Bettina in the russet color, size 12 (sold out online) so let me know if you happen to see one in your local store.

Also wondering if they wool bell skirt is in stores in the saddle color? Can anyone comment on fit? Is it really short?

Lastly, has anyone seen the Rimini in black pine in store? I got a 25% off card in the mail but don't know if I can find the color I want in the store. The coupon says it's not good online... does anyone know if that means it won't work if you order in the b&m?

Have a fun shopping weekend and thanks for the great blog!

  2. Hubby and I each got our Red Cards in the mail today (we live in CA btw).

I have a warm tingly feeling about this weekend...

  3. Sadly, I'm not feeling very motivated to go. I would undoubtedly find something to love with a red card, but Dear Leader has apparently passed me over this time. I do need to return my broken-right-out-of-the-box crystal drops necklace, which I see is still full price online.

Enjoy your red cards, lucky JCAs!!

BTW, factory is back on the site. Looks to be about the same selection as last week and same pricing. I do wish they'd put the shirred wool skirts online. I saw lots of pretty colors at the B&M about a month ago, but it was too hot to think about wool skirts.

  4. Has anyone received their factory purchases yet? How's the quality?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Regina, I was one of the JCA's that complained about the quality of the original Maya cardigan (I actually had to return it because it was pilled and holey wihin 1 day of wearing it) but I think that the cotton factory Maya cardigan is better for me. I found it to be not as small a cut as the original, and was pleased that it was offered in the dusty blossom color that I had purchased in the wool Maya. I'll have to see how it holds up but I've usually had better luck with cotton as opposed to the 14-gauge merino.

Other JCA's have received their factory purchases (reviews are scattered around) and seem to be pleased with the accessories and silk tops. General consensus is to avoid most of the sweaters as they are synthetic and itchy. HTH!

I went to the B&M yesterday but couldn't find anything that I wanted to purchase. Sale section was starting to balloon up again, now covering 5 back wall sections, 2 racks, and 2 tables.

  6. I got the Factory primrose Belle skirt and a Factory argyle sweater as part of the order I received yesterday. The quality of the items was good. The skirt was not lined, but that didn't really matter to me. The sweater was good as well. The fabric blend was a little bit itchier than its original counterpart (which I wore earlier yesterday so I had a good comparison) but I'll be wearing something under it so that doesn't matter to me either. Fabric content doesn't bother me as much as it does others.

  7. Have any other JCAs in NC gotten a red card yet? I'm hoping that since I'm way up on top of a mountain, mine is just taking its time to get here...

Might go to the b&m in Charlotte this weekend. Would love if I had the red card in hand while there :)

  8. I'm going to stop in tomorrow. There is so much stock that they are going to have to do a % off to move it. I'm also thinking about getting a double serge wool skirt. People rave about them, right?

  9. OT: I have a sale code for Gap if anyone wants it. I believe it's 30% off and can be used through today.

  10. I finally got my red card today. (Well, it must've come yesterday, but I missed it in my mailbox until this morning.) While I thought I should get one based on my buying history, I figured I had been passed by.

Have to go to the store tonight to make some returns, hopefully they'll have something I'd like to try on. I stopped by on a weekend a few weeks ago and was in and out in 10 minutes.

One question though: I am in Va, and was wondering if anyone knew if the clearance center stores counted in the 25% off? The card says no factory, but I wasn't sure if that included the Lynchburg stores too... I plan to "chat" the customer services associates too and ask...

  12. AppGal,

I got mine here in NC on Wednesday.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I was told at b&m they would be shocked if there was a % off sale before end of season (I was thinking there might be one too because of huge sale section?)

    ReplyDelete
  14. Laura: I really doubt the clearance centers would honor the 25% card, unfortunately. The one here in NC is kind of like its own little entity and I've never seen them do anything parallel to the retail stores. It's definitely worth asking, though!

  15. Massive sale update online. None of the popbacks I'm stalking but there may be some finds for others. Only one item I want and it's not enough to get free shipping. Will probably add some FP items and check out.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Can anyone tell me if the Bettina is marked down to 19.99 in the stores?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Anyone else notice the lovely new colors of the Cambridge Cable Crewneck Sweater?? Tavern Green, Vivid Poppy...I hope this is a sign of what's to come with the next rollout!! :) Anyone know when that'll be? Next Thursday perhaps?

    ReplyDelete
  18. New arrivals should be in store Friday or Saturday next week!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Sarah: I did see that, although I'm worried that the crewneck is the only style offered in the Cambridge sweater right now! I love the v-necks...

    ReplyDelete
  20. AppGal: I totally agree about the V-necks...I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they come with this next rollout! Can't imagine they wouldn't offer them...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Because I got the Red Card, I may actually make the schlep up to the B&M. I hope they will let me use it on the Red Phone if what I want (ochre pencil skirt) isn't in the store.

Also, those without the card, be sure to check your recycle bin. I was on the look out for mine and I yet I still almost tossed it as junk mail. It wasn't in a substantial envelope like the rewards cards--it was in a flimsy foldover postcard, 4x6, white on one side and orange-y red on the other. (Not complaining about the new format, probably better for environment, etc.)

  22. Whee! The black Alecias finally popped back in my size.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Well, I'm definitely hitting B&Ms in my area this weekend (today, in fact) now that I have my red card!!!!!!

(doing a little dance in my seat)

    ReplyDelete
  24. I am getting ready to head to my B&M now...returning the tortoise ballet flats (too plasticky for me) and a vest I bought for my daughter (the Barbour one). I want to give it to her for her birthday but that is not until Thanksgiving and the date is outside of the 60 day return window. Will try to re-order after Oct 1 to give us some room to return it if it does not fit. Called customer service to double check on return policy and they could not/would not make an exception. And I do not want to be stuck with a $110 vest that no one can wear!Oh well! Maybe I will find "something" that I can use my 25% off card with!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Not this weekend. Sadly we've lost our mail box key and haven't checked for 3 days. Hopefully I did get the red card then I'll try to go.
    Happy weekend JCAs!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Also....wearing factory Headache tee that I ordered last weekend. It's very cute and quality is good....not so thin as some of the current tees! Although I might avoid ordering sweaters based on others comments, the tees get a thumbs up from me!

  27. OT: Looks like there will be another sample sale in NYC starting this Tuesday. Check out the clothingline website for more info. I think it's going to be only footwear, jewelry, and accessories. I think this is the first time there won't be clothing so maybe there will be a bigger selection? I hope so because I know these sample sales have been horrible in the past...

  29. update: the red card will not work at the clearance centers, only "retail stores" and they don't consider the clearance centers retail stores. Not too surprising, but worth asking!

I have spent way too much lately, and need to return stuff, but bought a cord skirt in maple and a jersey scarf this morning on popback. I really need to cut back on my clothes shopping!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Does anyone have a red card they would be willing to part with? I am dying to pick up a few things but won't knowing there is no % off sale and no red card in my future :(

    katherine.h.reardon@gmail.com

    ReplyDelete
  31. Unless I get the red card I won't be visiting. I did get the 20% off in my catalog so I'll just be using that on some stuff online that's on sale already.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I finally received the 25% off card in the mail today. I don't know if I'll make it to the store this weekend, but I'll definitely be going in the next week or so. :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I stopped by after work, and the cashmere crewneck and v-necks were on promo for $99, even though it was not posted. They did allow me to use the 25% card for a red card purchase!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'll definitely be using my red card, but I don't know about this weekend...

Also, LE is having a F&F sale this weekend. I haven't tried it, but I think the code works on LEC.

  36. I popped in today to make a few returns, and picked up the metallic beach cardigan in gold and the Palmilla lace pencil skirt (which was marked down to $99.99 in stores, still FP online). I used the 25% off to snag these. :-)
I took Dina's advice and sized down on the pencil skirt.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'll probably hit the Orlando b&m this weekend, I want to try on some Minnie's because online it looks like some of the fabrics are cut differently around the ankles, and I heard that some of them are itchy. (comments JCA's?)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Wow, I didn't know anything about the red card, and was just looking through my mail (upset about all the junk) and was like, "Hm, what's this?" I have never gotten any special promotions before, so it's nice to have my heavy spending acknowledged! I'm really in love with the Trudie herringbone coat, so I'm crossing my fingers that one of my stores has it or they'll let me use the red phone (also, that it looks good on me). Sometimes they get up to a 30% off sale in outerwear, but that's usually not until November, and I don't want to miss out on it.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Marietta, can you tell me which B&M had the Palmilla skirt? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'll visit tomorrow morning with my red card! :)

AppGal - mine came yesterday, so maybe yours will come today? I sure hope so!

    ReplyDelete
  41. math teacher: Yay! Glad you got one! Still crossing my fingers and hoping that mine is waiting at the bottom of the mountain...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Question....are the red cards only for those that get the catalog? Or just for those with J. Crew credit cards? Or some combination of the two? Not that I'm expecting one, but just curious.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I got a card and have no credit card and regularly get the catalog I buy mostly on sale and rare purchases FP! I have a ps but she doesn't call me to come in but sends me letters about new arrivals and such! HTH

    ReplyDelete
  44. I got a red card and contacted CS to check if I could use on th red phone, they said yes and placed an order yesterday, for those who were wondering. I got the discount on full priced and sale items, although I was charged shipping because of the sale items I ordered, but I saved a lot more than the $10.50 I was charged for shipping, so I didn't mind too much.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Claire-- I tried the glen plaid Minnies and didn't find them to be itchy, and I'm quite sensitive to things like that. The wool was very smooth and didn't bother me at all. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I got the red/white card today, and that's my first time ever getting anything like that. Seems like now a lot of people are getting them - wonder if the staggered distribution makes people more likely to use them b/c it feels more "special"? I, like others have posted, really need to cut back on my clothes spending.

  48. I purchased the Rustico tweed sweater and use the 25% card I received. Unfortunately, the B&M I went to didn't have the Woodland jacket nor the Fair Isle sweater, and was told to check next week. But the guy said if they didn't have it then, they could do an order for me, allow me to use my 25% off, and it'd be free shipping.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Does anyone know the status of those cute Tretorn shoes (grey wool) with the ribbon laces? They're not online, but in the catalog, so I was wondering if they sold out already? Are there ever items that are catalog only and not online? Wouldn't seem smart, but who knows.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Sara, re: the bell skirt - I found it to run a bit small. I usually am wearing a 2 or 4 in the skirts these days, but ordered a 6 for maybe more length. I was fine with the fit and length, but ordered an 8, just to see if it would work better, and allow me to wear lower on my waist (and add length), and ended up keeping that one! I got the saddle color and like it - I think it's pretty true to the web color.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Charlotte Sometimes,

I'm pretty sure they were online at some point-- they were first featured in the September catalog. They caught my eye as well, and I'm bummed I forgot about them! Didn't notice they were gone til you said something.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Are the cashmere sweaters on sale for $99. in the B&Ms? I thought I saw someone say they saw that?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Elizabeth, the cashmere crewneck and v-necks ring up at $99 in-store only.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Has anyone tried the Tulipe cami? Is it TTS? How's the quality?

    ReplyDelete
  55. No red or white card for me, so I won't be visiting the store this weekend. I saw some popbacks online this morning that I was tempted to purchase, but the shipping charges scared me away and now they're sold out. Does anyone know if the critter flip flops are on sale in the store? I'm looking specifically for the pair with blue anchors on a pink background (any size...to donate to a fundraiser). Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Can one of the NoVa/DC JCAs post which stores up there have cashmere or shoes? My store doesn't have either, and I'm trying to see if I should make a trip with my red card... tx!

    ReplyDelete
  57. laurie thank you, I guess I'll make the dastardly drive again :)

    ReplyDelete
  58. JulieY,

My guess is that MOST everyone will get a red card eventually that is on JCrew's mailing list. They are not doing well right now and need to up their sales!

    ReplyDelete
  59. @ Laura, the Tysons Galleria has a good selection of shoes. Some cashmere too. And better parking than Georgetown!

OT -- after reading about so many of you getting red cards, and after standing in line yesterday at J Crew behind all these people WITH RED CARDS, I sent a complaint letter to J Crew.

I told them, I am a long-time Crew-cardholder, spend way too much money every month at J Crew, BUT have not received a catalog for months, much less any coupon to speak of -- unlike my friends, who are receiving catalogs AND coupons. I told them that this is no way to treat loyal customers.

Today I received a reply. The letter said that there are no more red cards to be sent out, but that they are looking for other ways to 'reward' their loyal customers, and that I should look out for these 'rewards'. Woohoo, maybe I'll get free shipping -- as if I couldn't get a free shipping from lovely outlets such as this JCA blog.

The letter also said that they are looking into why I haven't been receiving the catalogs.

To which I felt like answering: I haven't been getting the catalogs because YOU TAKE ME FOR GRANTED, J CREW! You think that I will shop J Crew regardless of all this terrible customer service (no catalogs, no coupons, and don't get me started about all the wrong items they send in my orders).

If some of you think that J Crew's behavior is acceptable, let me give you the alternative. I buy a lot of Janie & Jack for my kids. WHENEVER an item in my order is sold out, they will send an email with a TEN PER CENT discount off my next order. It would be a one-time unique code that can be used online. This has also happened a couple of times with Gap / Baby Gap. This is excellent customer service.

When I received that letter from J Crew, I thought, maybe MAYBE, if J Crew is the wonderful retailer that I wish it is, there will be a unique discount code as well, for 20 per cent, or even 10 per cent would be great. Just a discretionary compensation for my disappointment. But no such goodwill.

So I walk away from this experience with these conclusions, that:
    a) J Crew doesn't give a toss about expressing goodwill to its loyal customers; and
    b) that J Crew Customer Service does not have the authority, unlike with other retailers, to offer discretionary discounts, because Dear Leader MD may not approve.

On the upside, I felt good I sent that letter. Usually I never complain about J Crew, despite having drawers full of Final Sale stuff that don't fit, have holes in them already despite occasional or no wear at all, or are in unwearable neon colors. But this time I am really mad because right now there are some things in store that I really want, and they will be gone by the time all you red card holders get to the store, but I refuse to buy anything without a discount right now, strictly out of principle. In fact, I may return some items that are NOT final sale, also out of principle. That's the best way for me to express my discontent. Seriously, I haven't been this mad at a frickin mall store in a long long time.

Sorry for the rant, thought that someone else might be in the same boat as me.

    ReplyDelete
  60. The Bettinas in one of my local stores are still at $29.99 and the silk Twylas are $39.99. Not cool! They're $19.99 online!

    ReplyDelete
  61. dinster,

Totally understand where you are coming from--OK to vent with me:)

I do hope you get your catalogs. I went through a period where I did not get them either.

The way I started gettting them was going online and requesting them each month under both my name and my hubby's name and just kept doing that for many (6-7 months) and now finally they have been coming the past 3 months with no requests.

    ReplyDelete
  62. @Dinster, I know what you mean. If J.Crew wants to reward key customers with red cards, that's up to them, but J.Crew *promises* private sales to cardholders. It's right there in black and white on the website. So WTH are these sales?

I just got back from a run to the B&M. I thought the selection was a little sparse. In addition to the pencil skirt I had on my list, I was open to some inexpensive impulse buys but nothing grabbed me except another pair of matchstick cords. IRL the "Henna" color is a nice medium soft rust with a little coral, much prettier than the dried-blood color they appear on the web.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Hi Dinster -- Do you have a J.Crew card? I couldn't get a catalog to save my life (except in my dog's or partner's names) but then I went online and went into my account preferences, finding a box not checked for the monthly catalogs. It worked!

No red card for me, either, and I sure had plans for it! I think they probably do it as a test to see who comes in to the store and the rest of us are a control group for research purposes. . .

    ReplyDelete
  64. I didn't think I was getting one of the wonderful red cards, but I got one today! I am so excited! I live in Illinois and often get my catalogs after many other people have gotten them in the mail. I wonder if there is a connection?

    ReplyDelete
  65. My b&m had the regular suspects on sale. However, not everything is priced the same between online and in stores. I did get the beaded stamp tee in aluminum, but had to call to get the online price - still full price in store. I also got the sweet violet cardi, which is on sale in store but still full price online. My ps said that they'd been calling to confirm different sale prices all week. What a pain for them, it's a shame they can't be more consistent. I didn't see too much new since I was there 2 weeks ago. I tried on the drea dress and it was not good. I had to try on a size smaller, but I don't think sizing up would have helped. It was sheer at the bust and quite low. The length wasn't too bad, but dropped waist just isn't for me. The tulipe cami made me look like a football player! Definitely not good if you're broad shouldered. I liked it other than that. My store had what looked like the coralie (hasn't that been on sale for forever?) and I didn't mind it, but I didn't love it. I'll be back next weekend to try on the new line.

    ReplyDelete
  66. So, I had to pay $75 to the locksmith to replace my mail box this morning after three days of not knowing whether I had received the white/red card. Nothing, nada. Not even the October catalog.

@Dinster: I can totally relate to you in this situation and it hurts not getting this 25% off unlimited use card when others are receiving even in their husband's/boy friend's names in the same household.

Today I did some closet cleaning and found my Fiona sandal from last Summer that I've worn 2 mos max in a given year had the bottom sole coming undone. I showed it to my husband and he said it is a piece of crap not even worth getting it repaired. I'm too embarrassed to even show him my sweaters and tees that have not lasted one wash.

I am a JCrew silver cardholder (and now we know that means crap to Dear Leader, MD) and to not receive this white/red card discount or a coupon in the catalog is an insult and I feel very much betrayed by the brand I love.
Just few days ago my order at BR got canceled d/t out of stock. They were courteous to send me a 10% off code for next order. Hey, even ON sends me coupons like this for excellent customer service.

The only time I've received the red card (a.k.a. Mickey card) was back in December 2008 when I had a baby. I didn't even get one last year in April and didn't know about it until I found JCA blog.

I was actually looking forward to getting the red card and spend some $$ with JCrew but as with Dinster I will not just on principle. I am now going to gather another crap load of stuff to return to my B&M next week.

  67. Sorry for my rant. Please feel free to skip over. Thanks.

  68. math_teacher: what are you going to pair with your Sweet Violet cardi? I think that it is so pretty! Didn't you mention in another post that you saw a blouse that went well with it?

    ReplyDelete
  69. jcrew junkie, now that I'm home with it, I don't like it with any of my tanks or tops. :( I'm going to have to play dress up with it to see what I think. It is a beautiful cardi so I hope I can make it work. The blouse I paired it with is not online (yet). It is the same blouse as the dot flounette blouse, but in a pale turquoise and light brown paisley print. I didn't like the blouse on it's own (I think the print is too matronly), but I loved it with the cardi and moss tweed pencil skirt.

  70. mimi.magnolia - it was at the 45th & Madison b&m, NY. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  71. jcrewjunkie, okay I had a little time to play dress up. :) I really like it with the pleated posy top from last year in purple. I also have a tank in a similar dark purple. It works well with melon, ivory, navy (although I think a "lighter" navy works better than a deep, dark navy), and lavender. I don't have anything in the right shade of green or teal to try with it. As for pants, I would go with a lighter army green, jeans (of course!), navy, black, ivory - maybe smoky orchid? HTH

  72. I am a brand new cardholder, and had never heard about the red cards. I'm a little apprehensive about the card now - what's the point in having it if I get nothing for my loyalty? I've been a loyal Gap/Banana Republic customer for years (as evidenced by my silver card), and I'm always receiving discounts in the mail, online promotions, etc. Will I not be getting these with J.Crew card?

Also, I was into the store this morning, and all the crew-neck and V-neck cashmere sweaters were on sale for $99 (but apparently they weren't advertising that). And that Palmilla lace skirt was marked down to $69.99 in my store (Copley Place, Boston).

Using a personal shopper (Hilary), I grabbed the Goldernrod brocade baseball tee (absolutely gorgeous and versatile), the Moss tweed pencil skirt (flattering, comfortable, and it looks so much better in person!), and I grabbed the Ashbury bag and Panne velvet skirt over the red phone - does anyone know how the sizing runs for the skirt?

Also, my ps told me that I was lucky that I got the 20% coupon for my first ps appointment, and that they won't be offering promotions like that anymore. Has anyone else heard this?

  73. Dinster --

Thanks for the info about the response to your letter to Customer Service. I was ready to write them, too, but with your response, I'm now feeling more justified with what my response to their weird marketing/customer relations thing has been, in regards to the Red Card distribution.

Over the past two weeks, I'd purchased 2 Velutto velvet shift dresses, both colors of the Wool Majorette Jacket, a new sparkly necklace, the Mongolian Lamb stole in charcoal, and a velvet bell skirt -- all of which will be returned on Monday (as soon as I receive the Veluttos that were ordered). I'll take my shopping money where it's appreciated...

    I'm so disappointed.

  76. Out to Crewlet. It was full of a lot of stuff I didn't want. Kind of like the Thanksgiving table of the aunt who was the worst cook in the family. Oh, well, needed gifts, bought a few things.

Our outlet mall has been having a great promotion: if you hand over an extra dollar when you check out, the extra dollar goes to charity (breast cancer), and you get 25% off your purchase, no conditions, no exclusions, and it's on TOP of other promos, discount cards etc. Ralph Lauren practically paid me to go home with stuff.

J.Crew is not participating in this effort.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Dinster, jcrewphd & others - I also did *not* receive the crewpon. There is no rhyme/reason as stated with multiple people receiving the card in the same household. Also, cardholders & non-cardholders have received the card. I canx my J Crew card because the only benefit are the Rewards, which are controlled quarterly. Unlike the Gap family of cards, who sends out the rewards when they're reached. They also have a longer expiration date. Anyway, I put my vent about the crewpon at the bottom of this post on my blog and anyone is welcome to add your thoughts there if you like.

    ReplyDelete
  78. dinster: I feel your pain. As I mentioned in another post on GigiOfCa's blog, I never get those amazing coupons (from the catalogs). If I didn't love J.Crew so much, I would not be so sad about being over looked. I want J.Crew to succeed, and they have every right to do what they want. However it would be great if they could reward *all* Crew-cardholders. (Note, I am not even a cardholder, but it seems right to me that they would get access to promos first.)

Incidentally, after a several days of nothing in the mail, I did get the card. So there may be hope for those of you who have not received the card yet, to still get one. :)

  79. I bought the new pencil skirt in the bright pink (dahlia?), really like it. I considered the dressage belt, but I think I'd rather have the suede floppy belt from online. Does anyone happen to have that one?

    ReplyDelete
  80. I don't have that suede floppy belt, but I'd be interested to hear reviews about it (and colors). Thanks!

  81. Dinstar et al, I am so with you. I understand it is completely JCrew's discretion to distribute rewards as they want. And I'm happy for those JCAs who received one. But from either perspective, whether rewarding steady customers or enticing those whose buying has dropped off, I cannot understand. As it happens, I read dinstar's comment just before I walked into the mall - decided on the spot I wouldn't be buying at the Crew and would return all the "maybes" I had in the car. Saw my PS - she was surprised I hadn't recceived a card. Said several of her clients she expected would have one don't and that she doesn't know (or the store mgr wouldn't tell her) how the recipients were chosen. She told me to call cs - that's what she has advised her other clients. Everyone else at the checkout had a card. I LOVE JCrew - love love love. It has been *my* brand for more years than I'd like to count. But Dear Leader isn't returning the love - or even holding my interest.

In contrast, popped into Talbots where a very friendly SA offered to find the leather pencil skirt for me. At the checkout, I had my 20% card. The woman next to me was saying she had probably thrown hers away. I offered mine, and the SA said no, I didn't need to. She had the code or whatever that she saved for nice customers. Then went into ATL where they were having 40% off 3+ full price. Super friendly SAs again. It was actually fun. Still, neither of those stores is as "me" as JCrew is/was.

  82. Dinster et al, I am with you, and I truly believe Dear Leader simply doesn't get it -- when you have a loyal customer base, you hang on to it and build on it. You don't suddenly switch gears and go after the trendies. The trendies will move on to the next trend faster than you can retool. Many a shuttered restaurant bears this out. And as for apparel companies: Villager. John Meyer of Norwich. Not even a memory.

I would like to see J.Crew succeed. Sometimes I wonder if anyone else is betting on them.

  83. SFC, I too am borderline 0 and 2, so I ordered a 2P in the skimmer pants and they fit perfectly. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Thank you truly JCAs for commiserating with me. At least my husband and wallet are happy! I'm sure half of my wishlist will show up on popbacks eventually.

  85. math teacher: Thank you SO MUCH for all the info you have given me on the Sweet Violet cardi. I teach high school aged students who are quick to let me know if they don't like an outfit that I am wearing. LOL.

SFC: I have actually gotten several sizes of the Skimmer pant I love it so much. In the summer I got 2P because they were shorter (obviously) than the regular sizes and more "summery" looking. Now that I am back at work (teaching school) I am getting the 0 and/or 00 in the regular sizes because they are just a bit longer and will take me right through the Fall weather since they hit at my ankle. These pants are INCREDIBLE. They do not wrinkle much, are VERY versatile (dress them up or down), the colors go with most of my wardrobe (which is 99.9% J Crew), and best of all they are super figure flattering. For $19.99 they are an absolute STEAL. I have a pair of both petite and regular sizes in every single color!! HTH.

  86. OT: math teacher: I too have the aluminum stamp tee and love it. Seems to be softer than some of my other J Crew tees.

    ReplyDelete
  87. jcrewjunkie, you're right that the stamp tee does seem a little softer. It also seems a little thicker, which is nice. I get tired of the whisper thin tees. :) And, believe me I know about those high school students. :D

  88. SFC, I am size 00/0, and I found the skimmer pants in 0 to be a bit too tight in the crotch and thighs for me.

No JC for me this weekend, but I am planning to stop in Ann Taylor and AT Loft today. I got some coupons in the mail for 30% off any purchase for AT. I also have two rewards cards ($25 off $50) for ATL, and they are having a 40% off everything sale in-store this weekend. I would die if JC had promotions like this!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Kris - can you post the item number details for the pink pencil skirt?

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  90. math teacher and Jessie - did you order your usual size in the moss tweed pencil skirt?

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  91. Captain Crew-

My receipt says "double serge new vivienne skirt," PK5634. It is $118.00.

  92. I didn't get a card either. It's an interesting psychological study. Do you want to shop in a store knowing you are paying 25% more than everyone else standing in line? I was at two B&Ms yesterday, didn't buy anything. When the cards expire and those sale shoppers have gone, will the regular shoppers continue to buy knowing they were burned?

    ReplyDelete
  93. I still have gotten no red card so I guess I'm not getting it. I've gotten one two times in the past so I'm disappointed and decided I won't be buying anything else in store until it's over.

I did get a 20% off online in my catalog and plan to use that in the next few days.

    ReplyDelete
  94. @CapatinCrew - I wear an 8 or 10 in crew skirts, and took the 8 in the moss tweed. Although its a bit thicker, it still has a really nice drape, and is surprisingly light.

  95. I got my 25% coupon Friday pm when I had already made some purchases Friday morning at Jcrew! Has anyone tried to get a price adjustment? Does the coupon apply to sale items too? How about combining with the student discount?

    ReplyDelete
  96. For those of you wondering about the Moss Tweed skirt, it is a good bit shorter than their normal fall/winter pencil skirts. In fact, I believe it's shorter than the "summer length" pencil skirts at 20 5/8". However, it is very pretty and I would say you could wear your smaller size (if you are between sizes). You can check out my pics and reviews on it here.

    ReplyDelete
  97. newyork- It doesn't combine with the student discount and theyp robably wont' do a price adjustment, but you can just return the items and rebuy them with the card to get around this.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Captain Crew, I am going to go opposite what others have said about sizing in the moss tweed skirt. I am a 4 or 6 in JC's skirts (depends on the season and their wacky sizing), and the 6 was perfect in the moss tweed. (I was a 6 last year, a 4 this spring/summer, and now I find that the 6's are the best again.) I really wish JC would make up it's mind with sizing.

  99. Can anyone comment on the fit of last fall's Perfect Pencil Skirt? I'm thinking about picking up a pop-back. Is it TTS? How does the fit compare to the Stretch double-serge pencil skirt? The stretch double serge was huge on me, so I'm not sure whether I should grab my regular size or go down to petite. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  100. newyork & JS- My SA applied my student discount along with the 25% off card for full-price items.

    ReplyDelete
  101. i did only because of 25% off coupon I received. I did pick up a couple of things. Got one of the wool pencil skirts in a goldenrod color, black patent skinny belt and a sweater that was marked down from $88 to 49 and with the 25% off, great spend. The local store near me doesn't have much by way of stock in my opinion, but will go to a busier JC before coupon expires. Otherwise I would not have bought anything at all.

    ReplyDelete
  102. MDPA: I have the perfect pencil skirt from last year in a size down from my "normal" size. It definitely runs a little big.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Elizabeth, you raise an interesting issue. When the cards expire, will there be a gigantic sale in 2 or 3 days before the holiday rollout? Taking bets….

    ReplyDelete
  104. WFF, and by then, the selection will be less so those that spend a lot, that JC felt didn't warrant 20% coupons or 25% cards are essentially punished for being good customers. Glad I'm not a PS explaining this logic to customers.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I'd be curious to know whether J. Crew won't have any 30% or 20% off codes because of the red cards. Even though there's plenty of inventory in the sale section...

    ReplyDelete
  106. Hi everybody-- I tried on the moss pencil skirt. It's a much better length for us shorter folks, right to the knee on me at 5'3.5"

    I'm between a 2 and 0 in most bottoms and took a 0 in this. . .

    ReplyDelete
  107. Can anyone comment on the irl appearance of the dark rosewood color? And/or the fit of the Sweet Violet Cardigan?

    ReplyDelete
  108. Interesting - the B&M I went to (Chicago, North Ave) was slammed, huge piles of unfolded things everywhere. The SA said he'd never seen it like this. Perhaps due to the cards? I got mine on Fri, I think. That store is usually less busy than the Mich. Ave store, but also has less selection. It's more for residents and the Mich. Ave is for tourists.

    ReplyDelete
  109. fixated,
the dark rosewood looks like a true burgandy IRL. Definitely deep red wine-ish, not purplish. The sweet violet cardi fits like all their other patterned merino cardis; the only difference is the v-neck rather than crewneck. You will need a cami underneath.

OT, Bill Maher picked on the long haired scruffy model in a suit featured in the last JC catalog in his "New Rules" on Friday. I believe the bit was something like "This doesn't make JC look like it's hip and downtown; it just looks like Jesus finally buckled down and got a job."

  110. To all who did not get a card: perhaps a thoughtfully written letter to the company will further your wish for recognition more than ranting here. Not that you can't do both, because you can.

Just thinking that if a number of faithful clients wrote to express their hurt, and by all means it is hurt, it might do some good in the long run. No one mentioned writing a letter, not that I saw.

I think the company should hear about it directly.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Sorry, Dinster, completely missed your post. Well, hopefully others will follow suit.

    ReplyDelete
  112. I'm not sure hurt is the right word. Honestly, would any JCA stand in line and happily pay 25% more than everyone else for the same items?

    ReplyDelete
  113. Thank you JS and Jackie!

Still wondering if the 25 % applies to sale items?
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  114. NewYork0311--Yes it does! I bought someone Sat. that ws original $88, marked down to $49.99 and 25% off, NIce! Especially considering it is still full price online.
