J.Crew's Website: You Decide!

"Thanks!" to IRL who let us know about J.Crew updating their look online at their Facebook page (click here).

They share the following:
We’ve given ourselves a makeover (several, in fact). We’re trying out some new looks at jcrew.com and we want to know, which one is your fave?
My first reaction: "No joke you are giving yourselves a makeover!" ;) I am curious what other changes J.Crew has in store. Do we get a vote on those changes too? :)

As for the variations of the home page, I like the standard upper left one. It is clean and simple. It showcases the image nicely and the navigation is easy to use. Although, honestly, I can work with any of the four options.

What are your thoughts on the potential makeover J.Crew is undertaking? Which home page for J.Crew online do you want to see?

  1. I vote for...whichever option doesn't make the website crash :) We all know how the last major website "update" went!

  2. Alexis,

I like the standard upper left one too.

Now, I just want JCrew to let us review items like Boden and Land's End and LLBean. A MUST IMO.

  3. Genny: I totally agree. Reviews are so crucial, but like I've said before, I think J.crew is avoiding this knowing we would say some not-so-nice things about their quality issues.

  4. AppGal: LOL! I change my vote. I also vote for whichever option doesn't make the site crash. ;)

Genny: That review option would be fantastic! :)

  5. I noticed the option on the bottom left pop up today and I was unnerved by it, LOL! I was like, what is THIS? It doesn't bother me one way or the other. I rarely look at the home page anyway.

Now, one thing I did want to surface, as it's sort of related ... today I rec'd something in the mail from BR / Gap brands, and I can't recall ever having received it before. For lack of a better word, it was a statement of benefits! Benefits of being a Luxe cardholder, that is.

It totaled how much insavings I had racked up for 2010 ($95 to date) and also stated its main point, which was that I only needed to spend $96 at any/all of the Gap brand stores/sites before Dec. 31 to re-qualify for Luxe status.

Apparently they define Luxe status at spending $800 a year or more. If I liked BR's styles more over the past few years, it would not have been a problem reaching that number. I spend much more at ON and a little at Gap.

Anyhoo, that $96 is a DERRRRRRR no-brainer, but I was still interested to see it all put down in black and white.

I thought to myself, imagine if that was all I had to spend per year at JC to be considered a top-tier customer! That would be cake! I'd probably be covered in the first quarter for crying out loud.

But instead I muddle along, hoping for sales, free ship codes and the occasional permission to return a bum FS purchase.

    Hmmmmm.

  6. I like the simple upper left hand menu. The huge buttons down the side look sort of lame in my opinion.

  7. Hmmm...nothing wrong with the look of the home page but totally on board with others for adding 1) Review/comment for each item 2) quick view feature that you see on just about every other e-site so you don't have to hit the back button time and again to navigate back to main page. 3) more accurate product depictions 4) more fabric content info i.e. % of each fiber.

  8. i completely agree with the product reviews!! jcrew should get on board, so many other retailers do this.

it's so useful too in knowing if items run tts, at the very least

  9. standard upper left, with reviews, better navigation, and for those of us with sensitive skin:
    - more detail about fabric content and care;
    - more detail about material of shoes;
    - more detail about mineral content of "jewelry".

  10. I too would love to see product reviews and quick view as mentioned, and I'd like to add a wishlist feature to my wishlist. I usually fill my shopping bag with everything on the site I want / want to keep my eye on, and I hate having to empty it out and then restart it when I make orders.

  11. I am with those that would like to see reviews and more in depth descriptions of the items. The reviews on the Gap and Anthropolgie sites are so helpful for sizing, quality, color, etc. I would also like to see the disappearance of the FS....I might actually buy more than I usually do if I wasn't afraid I couldn't return it. So, what they do with their home page doesn't really matter!

  12. For everyone wishing for a wishlist, Amazon has a feature where you can add anything from anywhere on the web to their wishlish. It's called Universal Wishlist. But I do wish J. Crew had one so I could tell when an item went on sale or was soldout of my size. Reviews would be nice too.

  13. I'd like a website with no more ghost links. During the last FS free shipping + 30% off event, I tried to put several items in my shopping bag that simply wouldn't go in. I finally figured out that the link was for products no longer in stock.

  14. I like the standard upper left as well. The upper right just showed up on my screen yesterday. It is not as clean and I find annoying which is probably what they would prefer--for me to quit looking at pretty pictures and get ordering... I don't have crash problems but maybe that's a browser issue they should fix. I don't trust reviews so much as we are all built so differently and have such different taste but if it would make any of you happy then I hope they do it.

  15. Elaine, I received the BR letter, too. It said I've saved $850 this year. Unfortunately that means I've spent a lot more than that.

  16. My wish for JC website! (If only Mickey would take us seriously besides spying on us.)

    - Detailed fabric contents (% of contents) instead of putting "we're obsessed," "we're mad for," all these wordy descriptions to make us more drunk in our crewlade.

    - Customer reviews. JC probably wants to avoid negative ones based on their declining quality and ill fitting styles.

    - Magnifying zoom (?) feature on product images, where you don't have to open a new window to zoom into the product. Very time consuming and irritating not to mention outdated.

    - Wishlists and order history. I hate having to type in style number to find my item after it's been dumped by JC during updates.

Hope Santa can grant our wishes for JC this year. ;-)

  17. Jcrewphd, I agree w/ everything specially reviews, magnifying zoom w/o opening a new window, & wishlists. The changes made by Jcrew are cosmetic & irrelevant to what will truly be helpful to their customers. I've been using Amazon's universal wishlist & it's interesting that with some items, the uploaded prices are lower than in the website. In some cases, these lower prices coincided closely with the first-cut price when these items go on sale. Hmmmm, does Amazon know what some of these products are truly worth?

  18. Holy crap, Jeanne! lol. I didn't read the fine print to see how they calculated the savings -- I'm sure the free ship on all Gap. co orders, but I wonder if that includes rewards certificates and/or Luxe discount days...?

  19. I'll third jcrewphd's wishlist. Now "make it work," JCrew. Preferably effortlessly (that means without crashing)

  20. Marie I've never noticed that. I usually just change the price, but not anymore. Thanks

  21. I vote for nicer clothes and less gimmicky marketing ploys.
