J.Crew Spotted in Bloomberg Businessweek

A big "thanks!" to Sandra, who not only let us know about a J.Crew item being spotted in the August 9-15 issue issue of Bloomberg Businessweek, but also scanned the images for us to view! (Click on the image to see it larger.)

The page features Pearl Cluster Bib Necklace (Item 31423; $150.00). J.Crew describes this statement necklace as the following:

Classic pearls, reimagined in a spectacular statement piece. Hand-assembled acrylic pearls and hand-set Czech glass stones on a hand-assembled, hematite-plated brass chain-mail bib with hematite-plated steel chains. Signature spring clasp closure. Import. Length: 21 1/2".

There is something absolutely stunning about that necklace! Especially in the image of the article. It definitely would make any outfit shine! :)

What are your thoughts on the necklace featured? Do you like the style with all its shimmering stones? If so, please share! :)

  1. You don't see Michelle Obama in so much J. Crew these days. I wonder if she was having the same problems we are...the inability to find age appropriate clothes and quality issues.

  2. This is OT, and I hope I'm not late to the party as usual, but I am sooooooooo happy to report that a new outlet center is being built not too far away from me in mebane, NC and ..... drumroll ..... it will include a Crewlet!

I've been walking on air since I found out last night. Thrilled to bits doesn't even begin to describe how I feel. lol

Tanger Outler Center in Mebane, you and I are going to become VERY good friends! :-)

  3. Also, another moment of success with reaching customer service through the comments/feedback section of the Bizrate survey that follows an order submission on jcrew.com. I seem to get a survy prompt about every 3rd order, and I always fill it out and check the box that says I want them to share my feedback with j crew. I'm getting pretty adept at boiling down my comments to so few words!

This time, I politely mentioned that I'd submitted an order less than 2 days before the extra30 promo went into effect, and I asked whether a one-time courtesy price adjustment might be extended in this case ... and today I got a very polite email saying yes, they'd do that. Could take up to 2 billing cycles to show up.

Hey, I'll take it. I figured the worst they could do was say no...

I bet they made a little note in my file that says 'NO PEACHES FOR YOU.' lol

  4. I tried on this necklace last month when I was in Florida...it is a beautiful piece and I was sorely tempted to buy it but it wasn't in the budget that day (if memory serves, it was $165 in-store!). IMO, $150 isn't a bad price for such a generous amount of pearls and crystals, especially when I later saw a number of similar "statement" necklaces that were over $200. I'm still thinking about it...

  5. Are the pearls real???? If not $150 is crazy. From my personal experience JCRew jewelry is not well made. The two pearl necklaces I bought earlier this summer went right back. They were so cheaply made. My F21 necklaces were actually nicer and much less money!!! I was shocked as I had never ordered from them before and the pearl necklaces I got were gorgeous and under $10 each.

  6. This necklace is gorgeous. It is like the "supernova" with pearls. I love the supernova necklaces and bracelets--I always get compliments on those. In fact, I love J Crew jewelry. It is well-made, heavy and the materials do not tarnish etc. I own many, many pieces of both large and small necklaces, bracelets, earrings..I buy it on sale as I do not think the retail price is justified. But on sale, it is totally worth it. I get so many compliments and I really do not see anyone else making similar styles of the same quality. I have been known to pick up some LOFT, AT, F21 (lead-filled) pieces and find they are nice enough but the price is usually in line with the sale prices I pay for what I think is typically better quality at J Crew. I'd buy this necklace..on sale;)

On the other hand..some of J Crew's styles are completely whack-a-doo! But hey, you can't win 'em all:)

  7. No, Genny, the "pearls" are acrylic.

  8. I wish they would bring the Supernova back and also add it in silver.

  9. I am not crazy about this necklace. The chain in particular is what bothers me, it reminds me of the outlet jewelry. I love the supernova as well, but not this one. Probably not even on mega sale. Ah well.

  10. I saw this necklace on sale in store in the pinkish color a few weeks ago. It was either 69.99 or 89.99...

I tried it on bit it was just a bit too much of a statement for me.

  11. Not a fan of JCrew's costume jewelry. I think it is cheaply made and tarnishes easily. For the price it is junk from my experience. I prefer either the real thing (Thanks to my hubby:)or very inexpensive (but nice) imitations.

  12. I saw an almost identical necklace in the Real Cdn Superstore for $15 and one in AT Loft for $29 minus 40%.

  13. I feel like I could get something similar to this on etsy, with actual pearls (maybe freshwater?), for less than $150.

I don't buy a ton of J Crew jewelry because anything with real stones is way overpriced ($400 for a freshwater pearl necklace? Seriously?). If I want paste jewelry I can get it at a department store for way less, if I want the real deal for pearls or semi-precious I go to etsy, and for precious I think about how many Jackie twinsets I could buy instead. ;)

  14. It reminds of me of their pearl cluster necklace from before...It looks like the smaller the acrylic pearls on the necklace are, the higher the price ;)

  15. OT, I didn't know whether to post this comment with the ones about JC”s attitude towards taxes, or about style/quality issues, or about customer service, so here it is. Email from Madewell's Director of Design this morning, a nice-looking young woman who wants to share with me her ideas of 3 outfits she and I should be wearing this fall.

    1. Gray blazer over striped (stripey is not a word) yellow cardigan over blue shirt, with rolled-up distressed jean shorts which have been winterized with knee boots and gray thigh-hi socks. Note how the gray socks coordinate with the gray jacket. This must be why this get-up is called CITIFIED CHIC.

    2. Dark jeans, white jacket, striped shirt, “meh” scarf, with clog/slide/mule wooden heel backless sabots. Not clear what's autumnal about this, and it is called VINTAGE GAMINE AND ENTIRELY FRENCH. Er, no. I tremble to think what would happen if Carla Bruni-Sarkozy even saw it.

Last (whew!): Distressed jeans, plaid shirt (untucked), low-rent version of Macalester boots, described as LAID-BACK YET LADYLIKE, THANKS TO SOPHISTICATED ACCESSORIES. These are white socks (!) and some junky jewelry.

Whatever Micky has I think it's contagious.

  16. lovely necklace! if only it were real. i rather pay much more $ for real pearls!

  17. A pet peeve of mine: referring to glass, plastic or acrylic beads as "pearls." Talbots used to refer to their bead jewelry as "pearls" and not even mention anywhere in the description that they weren't real pearls!

  18. This necklace is very similar to the Luxe cocktail bracelet (22628), which I am wearing today and love. I think the necklace would be too much for me, though, as I am petite.

  19. $150 for acrylic, glass & brass - eh, no.

Wellfedfred, lol, it seems some at j.crew/madewell thinks any outfit that includes a striped shirt is French inspired... Mrs. Sarkozy-Bruni is a divine dresser, I trust her never to be seen in ankle socks & heels.

  20. I'm sure some people could pull off that necklace but I am not one of them. Costume jewelery is not for me. I'd rather have fewer real pieces than a lot of costume pieces.

OT - are the new arrivals coming online tomorrow? The buzz over the B&M new arrivals has sure died down fast.

  21. xoxo, that's the word on the street. I did see some pretty cute things at my B&M, but a) it's in the 80's here and won't be cool enough for fall clothes for at least another month and b) there's no way I'm paying FP if the stuff is going to go to markdown in 2-3 weeks.

  22. Not loving that necklace. I was at the B&M store and was a little disappointed. That multicolored mini w/the black zippers is ridiculously short. I saw the Drea dress in person. Couldn't try it on b/c I had my kids w/me but it looked cute and one of the PS's told me several of the SA's had bought it and love it. The wool Minnie's looked really cute. Didn't see anything much else that I was loving. Oh, and in the sale section, the grey whiper glimmer cardi was marked down to $59.99. I love that sweater! I bought it in the brown color, tho, which wasn't marked down yet.

  23. Thanks silver_lining, that makes sense.

I'm looking for a diversion and it has been a cool, wet summer here. I long for some crisp fall days, my favorite time of year. I do hope there are nice things coming on the fashion front. Everywhere I look I have been underwhelmed. That has happened to me though, where a season will come and go without much of interest to me. I don't follow trends just to be current, I have to like what I'm wearing regardless of how new or edgy it is. I'm probably the most boring 24 year-old a lot of the time but I know what looks good on me and usually J.Crew is a part of my wardrobe.

Will be checking things out before I head to work tomorrow morning. Hopefully there is some excitement to discuss!
