J.Crew Email: "All the great perks of your J.Crew Credit Card" versus "Are you missing out?"

Today is all about J.Crew's Credit Card! Look at these emails touting the benefits of signing up or already signing up.

"Thanks!" to xoxo who shared the following email listing the benefits of signing up for a J.Crew Credit Card.

xoxo also mentioned: "I had to chuckle at the last "benefit" listed as we all know that there doesn't seem to be cardmember-only sales. At least not recently." So true, so true! I laughed a bit at that line too. Thanks to the lovely JCAs on this blog, we know the last point is not exactly true. Are there even "Cardmember-only sale events" ? (Seriously, I don't know.)

"Thanks!" also to GoldCoastGal who shared the following email listing all the benefits for existing card members.

I guess this is their way to remind them how awesome having a J.Crew Credit Card is. So awesome that J.Crew's Regional Sample Sale doesn't even accept them! ;) (That last part is true. Refer here.)

I never had a J.Crew Credit Card and frankly, don't think I ever will. Sorry J.Crew, you still haven't enticed me yet. But I do look forward to your efforts and future offers. :)

Side note, look at those outfits in the emails. With long sleeve cardigans, cord pants, leather jackets, all in muted shades... Fall fashion is just around the corner!

What are your thoughts on the emails? Do you think the perks are decent enough to sign up? If you are a current card holder, would you recommend signing up for other JCAs?

  1. I've had a card for about six years. At some point they "upgraded" me to a silver card. I don't know what the criteria are for receiving a silver card, nor do there seem to be any benefits associated with a silver versus a green. In comparison, when BR upgraded me to a Luxe card years ago it came with free shipping, though I don't know whether it's still the case for BR.

I have no idea what they're referring to when they say "cardholder-only sale events." The "private sale" e-mails seem to go out to everyone, not just cardholders. As for previews, once in while I'll get an alert that new items are out, but not before they're on the website for anyone to see and purchase, and sometimes I'll get a preview e-mail featuring a single item. Also, based on posts here at JCA, many other customers receive different e-mails that I as a cardholder do not receive. And sometimes I receive lookbooks but mostly I don't.

So, based on my experience, the rewards cards are the only reason to be a cardholder--there are no other perks.

  2. Oh, I did forget one thing--there is a separate CS telephone line for cardholders. I place my orders online so I don't use it.

  3. I have had a jcrew card for almost a decade and this is the only card that have no benefits. I have BR Luxe card and I get free shipping and tons of reward cards that I can use and any gap store. My ann taylor card also does the same. So as far as perks go the only thing I can say is it takes up space in my wallet.

  4. Fie on store cards, especially ones without good perks.

I have to say, the picture in the top email is super cute! It's great to see the big, happy grin on the model. A blank stare or open mouthed "duh" face never gets me in a buying mood.

  5. CheesyGoodness:

LOVE her smile and her outfit. So CUTE! :)

Re: CC...I have one, and am glad for the rewards card, but that is the only benefit I see.

  6. I have had one years and keep vowing to get rid of it. No real perks and the APR is outrageous!

  7. I have been (or was until recently) a j.crew cardholder since 1994. I see no other benefit to the card other than rewards. Additionally, I recently found out my card was canceled due to inactivity - without any notification to me! When I called about it they said I could re-apply which I will not be doing. I just don't shop at JC enough to make it worth the hassle of re-applying??!! Even in years past, when I did use it frequently, I did not receive any additional benefits (no private sales, previews or free shipping). I used to spend a mint at JC but as others have mentioned, less so in recent years. Having said that, I am looking forward to the fall rollout. I love the cardi in the top photo!

  8. I don't have a JC card, but if I did, I would only have it for the rewards cards since those are obviously the only benefits (although I might use the tailoring once in a while). I do LOVE both outfits in the emails, though.

  9. nothing beats american express points. JC ends ups with more $ from me as I save a lot in travel with the amex perks--thus more clothing dollars. With all the nice readers on this blog I don't feel like I am missing much. thanks!

  10. I had a "perkless" J Crew credit card in my husband's name when I was married, didn't bother to get a new one after our divorce and doubt that I ever will. Besides the rewards card I just see no point in it.

  11. OT: Good news for the ladies in Baltimore. I received the email below from Joan at the Towson location.

I also wanted to make sure that you heard that we are becoming a women’s only premium store. This means we will be able to carry some of the collection pieces that we haven’t in the past. Our new assortment is coming tomorrow, so please stop by when you have a chance to see it. It looks to be very exciting.

    new stuff out tomorrow?! woo!

  12. The J.Crew card is a joke. I have one but I don't know why anymore. An interesting tidbit: they recently stopped allowing customers to use their J.Crew credit cards at the clearance store in Arden, NC because apparently, too many transactions were never being billed and they were essentially giving away merchandise. I suspect this may have happened to me... transactions made at the store take 2-3 months to show up on your bill and I have never been able to keep track of them. Interestingly, at the last warehouse sale in Lynchburg, they accepted J.Crew credit cards but they have never accepted them at the warehouse sales in Arden. Oh, inconsistent J.Crew!

  13. I haven't had a card that long but the only perk I considered when getting it was the rewards. I've earned some good size rewards. I pay the bill when it arrives so the APR has never concerned me.

Frankly, I think I get more "perks" by developing a good relationship with a personal shopper. I've had advance notice of things, done preorders, had help with billing issues or shipping problems, all because I have a great personal shopper.

  14. The model is adorable and she looks so happy. Good job J.Crew! Maybe they are reading JCrewAficonada! :)

I don't ever use store credit cards. The interest rates are always 20% or more and that's highway robbery. I use my debit card for all of my shopping purchases and this keeps me debt free. I may miss out on occasional deals but as a result I don't buy what I cannot afford. :)

  15. I got rid of my J Crew card. I was tired of being pimped. As a silver cardholder, I was still scrounging around for free shipping codes.

Like others here, I also have the BR Luxe card. There's free shipping for life on my card & true cardholder only events. The rewards cards can be used at other Gap stores AND the rewards are released when they're earned; not quarterly. I could go on, but why.

  16. I am loving the quilted bag in the first photo as well as the richly-colored sweater. The jacket in the second photo is really pretty too.

Would never get a store credit card either. I have enough credit cards as it is and manage just fine.

  17. I have the card but that line about cardholder-only sales is a joke! Also, whenever I get my catalog and there's a half flap where one of the mystical shipping codes might be, I always just get an ad to apply for the card (which I ALREADY have!)...so frustrating.

I do take advantage of the rewards cards...I always use my JC card online and in-store and then transfer money directly from my checking account to pay it off the very next day, so I've never paid one cent in interest.

  18. The only reason I have my card is for the alterations - it's really worth it for me to get free ones on my work wear because I often need pants hemmed, jackets sleeves pulled up, and some work done to tuck the blazers. They do a good job on them, and it would cost me around $50 at a tailor

BR also offers this - and not just for Luxe. My sister has the regular card and got several pairs of pants done that she bought.

  19. I don't have a JC card (or any retailer's card for that matter). I actually seriously considered getting one for the tailoring benefits, but a trusted manager told me that the kind of tailoring I would need (around the waist on pants and skirts, primarily) JC would not do.

When I read this email this morning, I thought maybe I should reconsider, but after reading comments here, I think I'm good as I am.

  20. I like the sweater and the bag too in the first photo--AND that cute smiling face! Where did all the sunny, smiley JCrew mdoels go?

  21. The JCrew tailors have made mistakes on pieces I have had done over the years and I have had to make more than one trip to the store to have the item redone. So I don't consider "cheap" tailoring a perk!
