Off On a Tangent: Land's End Canvas {free shipping & more reviews!}

Don't worry, I am still all about the Crew! But sometimes there are codes/ offers from other retailers that might be useful for some J.Crew Aficionadas & Aficionados, like now...
Right now, Land's End is offering free shipping (no minimum) using promo code HARMONY & pin 00003027. This offer expires 3/11/10. Also, "thanks!" to Danielle (in this post) who let us know that LE Canvas is sending out emails with codes for 25% off highest priced item with free shipping (on orders $50+). So check your email! :)

Also, "thanks!" to J.Crew Guy In Canada who shared with us his {fantastic} review of the Canvas Heritage Oxford from Land's Ends Canvas:
It seems funny, me writing about LE Canvas; almost like cheating on my significant other (J.Crew), but recently the Canvas line has been receiving so much buzz on-line I thought I'd give it a try. As all of you know shopping on-line can be tricky, whether it be canceled orders or dicey fits, but LE is so easy to deal with, I do believe their CS to be among the best.

I started off with a shirt, the Canvas Heritage oxford (Item #38730-8X53; $34.50) in blue. The colour is great, a soft baby blue. I must say whoever is doing the design and fit work at LE Canvas deserves a raise. The shirt fit perfectly, not an old man baggy shirt with droopy shoulders, or an extreme cut euro one either. It's almost like a brother to the tailored fit I love from J.Crew. The shirt is cut a little short, so it works well untucked, but it's still long enough to wear tucked in. The cloth is a soft oxford, about a mid weight one. The cloth is easy to wear, not a stiff heavy weight version, not a light weight fabric either. The material has a washed, broken in softness to it, like you've had it for some time. I was happy to see there is no distressing or worn, frayed edges, I'll do that on my own with wearing the shirt.

The shirt appears to be well constructed and should stand up well. I was especially impressed with the little details; the way the sleeve is made from three pieces and not two like most shirts. The letter 'c' on the shirt's lower placket is a nice touch. The shirt is fitted and tailored as mentioned without being tight or binding. The cuffs also have a contrasting piece of fabric running inside the cuff. It's these details that make the shirt feel more like a Ralph Lauren shirt than something from LE. When you look at the price it becomes even more impressive as the shirt is less than $40.

Two days after receiving and wearing the blue one I found a code for free shipping and 20% off, so a white oxford was next. Same great cut and fabric as the blue one. Seems like LE is constantly sharing free shipping and discounts codes enabling me to buy more; like the canvas washed D-ring belt that I'm waiting to arrive. The hand written thank-you card and free shipping code that came in the mail a week after the blue shirt was the final touch to 'wow' me.

J.Crew is still my girl, but this new gal called Canvas is quickly working her magic on me.
"Thanks!" again to J.Crew Guy In Canada for his great review of this shirt! I also really like his take on J.Crew & Land's End Canvas. I am really liking Land's End Canvas (frankly, they rock!), but J.Crew is still my girl too! :)

What are your thoughts on the Oxford? Would you consider getting it? Are there any Land's End Canvas items you are interested and/or have reviewed? If so, please share! :)

  3. Thanks for the review from a man's perspective. I've been purchasing some of the polos for the BF from the regular LE line and I've been impressed by how well they've laundered and how well the BF likes their fit. Plus they are like 1/3 of the price of the JC ones!

  6. Thanks JCrew Guy in Canada for the awesome review and Danielle for the promo code. I have been buying some things from LE (men's polos and shirts) and some staples for years, their quality is great. I have ordered a few items from the new canvas line, so far the t-shirts are great, am waiting for some shorts and dresses. Hope they fit as good as JCrew, because they are a fraction of the price and their fabrics are more substantial.

  7. Great review! I bought this shirt for my husband and he is equally as happy with it!

I also bought my husband a pair of LE Canvas jeans and received a hand written thank you note from a LE Canvas CS rep! (This was in December or so, I think it was a Christmas present.) I was really floored.

This combined with all the codes and the quality... I'm pretty hooked. I placed an order for a couple of womens' shirts for myself a couple of weeks ago.

I've ordered one swimsuit recently from J.Crew, but other than that, I'm just not nearly as interested as I once was.

  8. Danielle, I believe that's a one time use code. I received one, too, but with a different pin.

I received my LE Canvas chinos yesterday and I don't like them. They fit funny. Or maybe it's just my imagination. I'll try them on again before I make a decision whether to keep or return.

  9. Crap, you're right Jeanne. They usually aren't. I went to use it, and it's already been used by someone else. My fault. :-(

  10. I'm waiting for my first LEC purchases to arrive any day. Ordered the chino blazer, pea coat and blue/white striped polo. CS told me on the phone that Sears accepts Canvas returns so that's convenient. Noticed recently that Sears has a new (to me) Land's End section just not the Canvas line. Am excited to try LEC on!

  11. Stephen,
I found out at my local NC Sears that the canvas items are all mixed in with the regular LE stuff. So you might want to check out yours. Would love to hear how your ordered items work out:)I am a huge LE fan and hope you like your items.

  13. Well, I just cheated again! Ordered a madras tie and a polo from Canvas. With the 25% off and free shipping it was no brainer. Canvas has become my new mistress.

I had a question about fit, so I chatted on-line with someone from LE, very cool feature and better than calling in to find out.

  14. On the Canvas Facebook page they have a link to some info about the mens chambray shirts, and a link to their e-catalog.

JCrewGuy - your comments about cheating make me laugh!
