J.Crew Email: Introducing our holiday sale + FREE SHIPPING

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta, who shared the email J.Crew sent this morning.

The email announces that the Holiday Sale is here. This news was mentioned in yesterday's "J.Crew's Holiday Sale {still no final!} is Here" post. {When it comes to J.Crew sales, this JCA is all over it.} The email also announces that the Holiday Sale, which offers up to 40% off prices, is available in brick & mortar (B&M) stores too.

Moreover, J.Crew is offering free shipping on orders of $150+ with promo code 150SHIP. This offer expires 11/15/09. I am happy to see another free shipping code. There are so many right now. {wahoo!} :)

Are you planning to check out J.Crew's Holiday Sale section? Are there any items you are hoping to see on sale? Will you get any sale items, or hold out for the new arrivals? :)

  1. I was happy to see the Eden in all colors (I believe) is back in the sale section. I am waiting for it to go down further in price though....

  2. Yay! JC is still doling out the 'good customer' rewards. I got an email giving me [via my account, not a code] free shipping (no minimum) and monogramming until Nov 22. Yay! So if you didn't get a reward in the last round, maybe it is still coming!

  3. How is it that they are already out of most of the colors offered in the peacoat and lady day? It just went on sale.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Never mind. They only have certain colors on sale, the rest is full price still.
Damn I want the Stadium Cloth-Friday Coat and the tweed Griffin Coat.

Any one think the mint green tweed will be okay with a olive complexion? Looks great on the model, but that is not my coloring.

  6. Just got back from my local crewlet...definitely some cute finds there! They have the golden rose print in everything from the "victoria" cami, belts, cardigans, etc. VERY pretty. Also, and I almost shed a tear it was so pretty, they have a replica of the sparkle tweed print from last fall. They have a blazer AND a pencil skirt in the same material. Oh, it's gorgeous. I tried on the skirt and wanted it so bad, but it was $90. A little too steep for me, esp. for an outlet piece. They also have some cute tees...some that are oddly reminiscent of designs that just came out with the new roll-out.

I ended up buying a snowflake tee, which looks almost exactly like the snowflake critter tee from last year, and some REGULAR j.crew (not outlet) destroyed boyfriend chinos that were marked to $29.99 - an extra 20% off. If you live near an outlet, it is worth stopping by to see what they have!

  7. Oh that sounds great, AppGal! Any pic to share?? Would love to see some of these items:)

  8. I have the entire Petite Crystal set that I plan on returning to the B&M tomorrow. If you are interested in it please email me. The cost will be $80 shipped to cover what I paid, shipping, and paypal fees for all three pieces. :)

  9. Btw, the Butterscotch Schoolboy Blazer is marked on promo price of $128 now if anyone has been considering it. :)

  10. Wolfy, I think the tweed Griffin could be pretty on an olive complexion but I'm fair and I'm not sure how crazy I am about the color on that coat. And this is someone that loves tweed coats and would typically get it right away. Waiting to see if anyone has a review on it. Would prefer the Oona if it miraculously ever were to have a popback go on sale.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I cannot remember what petite crystal looks like??

FFM-have you seen the butterscotch blazer? I know it had disappeared from the site and several people thought it was gone. Wondering about fit and color IRL. Anyone have this?

    ReplyDelete
  12. FFM, I saw that and I've been debating it! I sort of prefer the pearl gray and I have the navy and heather carbon already

  13. Happy to see the codes keep coming, especially as we move into the holiday season. I'm anxious to see the next rollout, I have so many gifts to buy and I love to give J.Crew. :)

  14. sweetsy: the Petite Crystal earrings, bracelet, and necklace are rose gold with black stones. Here is a pic of the earrings: Petite Crystal-drop earrings .

sweetsy and Laura: I haven't seen the blazer IRL yet, but did order it this morning because I am really curious about it, and the price is decent on the promo. :)

  15. Plus it's not Final Sale which makes it risk-free to try out. :)

    ReplyDelete
  16. Question: Does Thinsulate make a big difference when it comes to wool coats? TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Thanks Laura. Now, all I have to do is wait for the items I really want to go on sale.
The B&M near me (SF) never has anything current or on sale.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I have seen the butterscotch IRL in I think the SF store. The fabric is a soft wool like the navy, however in the paler color without the heathering the gray has, tends to slightly show very very fine pilling. I don't want to overstate it as I would still get it on sale, I just didn't want to pay full price for it. Also, the color is very light.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Thanks so much for all of the info, FFM! Do you have ideas in mind for pairing the blazer..would love to know what your stylish self is thinking:)

  21. sweetsy: Unfortunately, I didn't get pics of anything other than what I bought. I actually brought my camera to the store but when I pulled it out to take pics, it was dead. Sorry!

Also, to add to the list of cool things at the crewlet...They have a really soft "boyfriend" black and red check shirt. It's a really relaxed fit. I kinda like it better than the blue/white one online! They also had a cute black/white tweed pencil skirt that, imo, is cuter than the oona.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Laura: is it similar to a khaki color or lighter?

sweetsy: I plan to wear it with brown, possibly my navy and white check shirt, graphic tees, and as a more neutral option to go with winter white and the other softer, more muted colors of the season. I made a set with it a little while ago. I don't have the skirt, but I like the look of it with winter white. The skirt could easily be replaced with jeans. Dazzling Dots

    ReplyDelete
  23. AppGal: I saw that black and white skirt a few weeks ago...very cute. :) I'm going to my Crewlet tomorrow because I just called and they have the Snowflake tees. YAY!

  24. sweetsy - IRL pic of the butterscotch schoolboy here:

AppGal - Thanks for sharing the great Crewlet info!

    ReplyDelete
  25. FFM: The snowflake tee is TOO CUTE! I will be posting pics later after my camera battery charges up.

OT: I just received the Wool herringbone bucket hat (s/m) in butterscotch and unfortunately the color just doesn't work w/my skin tone. I noticed that it is sold out online, so if anyone wants it, let me know!

    ReplyDelete
  26. AppGal: Is your tee white with a black snowflake?

    ReplyDelete
  27. FFM: No...mine is light pewter with a satin, off-white snowflake. It really looks EXACTLY like the one from last year (like this one on eBay, only the snowflake is a bit smaller (which is better, imo). They did have another snowflake tee at the crewlet--white shirt with black, printed snowflake. Definitely not as cute.

    ReplyDelete
  28. FFM the picture on Gigi's blog is spot on. It's pale and I really like light colors but others tell me those light colors wash me out since I'm pretty fair. Sometimes I ignore them and wear the light colors anyway :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. The holiday sale is a joke.

How I long for the sales of 2008.

I haven't bought anything at J.Crew in forevas.

I'm all about White House, Black Market, Ann Taylor and Banana right now.

    Crew is too pricey.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Thanks AppGal! :)

Laura: What about wearing a color of shirt under it that is flattering to your skin tone? The color that flatters would be nearest to your face so the color of the blazer would have less of a chance of washing you out. :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. The selection is quite limited...booooo!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Not sure if anyone has posted about Crewcuts jewelry but lately I've been in search of a black everyday beaded necklace. When I was searching the Crew I decided to take a chance on the Crewcuts girls' crazy beaded necklace - for $14.50 and free shipping, I figured I had nothing to lose. I just got it and it's great! The ribbon on either side of the beads is 16.5" long and the beaded piece is 10.5" inches long - more than long enough to go around my neck. I just ordered one in another color I'm so happy.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Just posted a pic of the crewlet snowflake tee on my blog if anyone's interested :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. boston brit, I am so with you on the CC jewelry! I actually just came on to post a reply to an email I sent to CS about the CC seaweed necklace a couple of us had questions about, also is info on the metallic Lexi:

We apologize that it took a while to get back to you concerning the necklace, item 22902, and your clutch, item 17545.

The necklace, item 22902, does not have a clasp, it is an endless row of pearls. The pearls are made of plastic.

The clutch, item 17545, has a suede finish and is coated in a metallic, so normal brushing that you could do to suede could ruin the finish and
remove the metallic finish. This leather is very delicate and you should avoid wearing it with dark clothing. A weather proofer product could ruin the finish. If we find out any more information concerning your clutch, we will email you...

So, I can't wear dark clothing with my purse? What the heck is that about? JC is basically saying there's nothing you can do to keep it nice other than hermetically seal it away from life. It just drives me crazy that the most info for care offered is machine wash or dry clean, you know? I am so thankful for this blog, where the info is good, friendly, and actually useful (thanks again everyone who lauded Fray Stop). CS has all the measurements available to them, but there should be more than that, I think.

Now I'm off to measure my head to see if the seaweed necklace will fit around my melon!

  35. Hi all! Anyone have news what they'll be offering at Factory outlet for Black Friday or in Retail. If anyone's interested J Crew factory at all Tanger Outlets on Nov. 27th is offering 40% off clearance. However,I don't live near any Tanger Outlets and don't know if the 40% off of clearance will be the same at all J crew factory stores.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I ALSO made a trip to the factory store today.

They have 3 new chiffon rose tees. They are a different tee, with more stretch, and no writing. However, they are new colors...green with aqua rose, plum with purple rose, and black with charcoal rose.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Just looked through the holiday sale and I'm confused... it seems like more and more items are flip-flopping between sale and full price. A perfect example is the watercolor tortoiseshell skirt - it started out at $148.00 full price, then went to $69.99 I believe (I repurchased at this price and returned the full price one I'd bought prior but fortunately had not worn), then JCAs had reported it being marked down to $19.99 in store, then yesterday it was full price again and today it's in the sale section for $99.99. I love the skirt so I can't comment on why it's not selling, but all the price changes don't seem to be helping.

Also curious is the jeweled garland necklace. Did this come in more than one color? It was just on sale for $69.99 and today it's full price again but if it came in 2 colors then that's probably the reason...

    ReplyDelete
  38. Oh, and they also had a few new sweaters including Dream arglye V-necks and cardigan in both grey and black as well as Dream professor cardigans in navy, grey and black. I liked the professor cardis and they didn't gape at the buttons at all. However, I didn't buy one because I promissed myself I wouldn't buy any more dream or neutral cardigans.

I did, however, walk out with the outlet version of the jeweled button lea in aqua for $35.44 ($69.50 minus 40% off minus teacher discount).

  39. Hey! CheesyGoodness, I was actually very disappointed in the Jcrew bags and leather shoes because most of their items are made with cheap leather. I used to live in France and even our leather made in Italy and France are sturdier than the leather goods at JCREW.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Aude,
Yes, I agree with you about the quality of JCrew leather. I don't purchase their handbags or shoes anymore. Why spend that kind of $$ then nicer quality things can be found for the same price???

    ReplyDelete
  41. Aude, Genny, I can agree with you on the leather shoes from J.Crew. But as one who has lived in Europe and spends quite a bit of time there, including right now, I disagree with your assessment of the leather handbags. I have several of the Borge Garveri bags from J.Crew and they are top quality leather, the same leather used by high-end design houses. I also have a few other J.Crew bags that rival Prada, Fendi, Gucci, Valentino and even Hermes for quality. The styling is not quite as exceptional, but the materials and construction give the designers a run for their money at a fraction of the cost.

The footwear used to be top notch - all leather and quality construction, but they decided to cheap out and go with synthetic lining and soles, much to the disappointment of many on this blog and elsewhere I'm sure. But the leather on the handbags has been very good IME. The only exception is the patent, which I would not recommend.

Classics and accessories are my passion, I know them well. As much as people may think I'm pontificating on the topic, I feel I am offering experience that has been handed down to me through my mother, grandmother, aunts, sisters and friends. There is more to quality than meets the eye. Materials and construction are at the heart of a quality piece. If you like the J.Crew style and price, so much the better!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I can't believe they even bothered to send an email about this so-called "holiday sale" - just looked through quickly and saw nothing new!

    ReplyDelete
  43. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Thanks FFM, I should remember to do that; sometimes I wear the colors I like and don't take my own coloring into consideration.

ITA on the shoes everyone. I did buy the Jules patent heels and flats and I bought the brown Elsbeth oxfords but the plain ballet flats, etc. while cute, are just not a practical purchase IMHO. TB Revas are the same price and better made, although they don't have the adorable prints. It's the tweed and jewel type shoes I have a hard time resisting. And the Oxfords I'm trying out since it looks like that's coming into style in a big way. They do seem well made.

  45. The marzipan merino is on sale already.

OT here, but is there a rhyme or reason why J. Crew dumps shopping carts? I was just about to go back from this morning and purchase a Sandalwood cashmere tie-front cardigan, but no, my cart is empty and the item no longer available for sale. Gotta love it!

Does anyone know about the quality of Talbots cashmere?

  46. Heidi: There could have been some shipping screwups from late last week and this past weekend. Your earings could be something totally different but I suspect the old shipping demons from JC have returned.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Heidi: I really hope they are a gift for the messups, I understand about having to make phonecalls, I am doing that right now and I have given up on CS, it is so frustrating!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Heidi: I have hit beyond clueless 3x in a row. It must be the Holiday season with all the new trainees on the phone.

    ReplyDelete
  49. ShuLvr, the Lexi I got was my first non-Borge leather bag I've had from JC (I've had several nice canvas totes that have served well, too) and I'm really happy with the look of it. It seems decently constructed with good seams and I like the balance of size and utility. I just don't understand making something they entice you to use as a clutch-which by definition you CLUTCH- that will have the finish flake off by touching it too much. Don't clutch the clutch! So weird. Also, thanks for the heads up on the patent. I've been keeping half an eye on the patent Campo going on sale, so I'll cross that off the mental list.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Sheil, I have a thinsulate coat from J Crew and I love it! It's basically a quilted lining but still thin, and it's much warmer than their non-thinsulate coats. I live in Minnesota and was in Boston before that and can always wear it in the winter. I took my usual size but my coat was from a few years ago.

I also bought the watercolor tortoiseshell skirt on sale at $69 plus some % off and can't believe it's on "sale" for more than it was before! I love it but still haven't figured out what to wear it with though...

    ReplyDelete
  51. Oh- I forgot to ask- has anyone tried on the Super 120s Lizza jacket (now on sale)? I'm often between two sizes in the J Crew blazers so I'm wondering if it runs a little large or small. Or I could order both sizes and return the one that doesn't fit! (hmm, imagine that!)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Sheil - I bought a peacoat with Thinsulate last year and I don't think it's that much warmer than a coat without it. However, I don't own any J. Crew coats w/out Thinsulate, so I don't know how warm they are.

    ReplyDelete
  53. OT: for those of you who missed the Jaspe sweatshirt, Gap has a VERY similar style out right now--and they have different, more vibrant colors! I'm sure it's not the same material as the Jaspe, but it looks pretty darn close.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Is it just me? I just received 2 pairs of cafe capri and one cocktail capri. My last cafe capri was fwom su08, with wide waist band and low rise. Back pockets were placed low(perfectly) to make your rear look good.
All 3 capri pants from this year, higher rise, and back pockets are placed very high, close to the waistband which is narrower than last year...? My rear look very flat and saggy...I'm returning all of them.

BTW, wasn't anyone looking for a ribboned pearl necklace? I also received this in my order and will be returning it(in light champaigne, not so good color on me). Item 17763, $30 will cover shipping and fees. Let me know.

  55. Dara - the jeweled garland necklace did come in two colors. The color "butterscotch" went on sale for $69.99 and has sold out. The color "rosy peach" is still full price at $150.00. I ordered the butterscotch color on sale and it is a really cute piece!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Does anyone have/seen the glass cylinder necklace and what are your thoughts?

OT: does GAP give and get work for online orders? I am not seeing a code on this print out (that someone on here so kindly gave a link to a few days ago). TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  57. ShuLuvr, I think someone slipped some Crewlade into your apero. With all due respect, you cannot compare JCrew bags to the European brands you cite. Hermes??? You must be kidding. My one almost-purchase of a JCrew bag, the Campo, was a tremendous disappointment. Cheap hardware and even cheaper lining. Honestly, I'd rather have a Coach for just $100 more. And I don't really like Coach.

CheesyGoodness and boston brit, I was also looking at CC jewelry today after receiving the catalog yesterday! I saw the twisted pearl necklace on a couple of the girls and realized I liked it better than the hammock. I called and asked CS to compare the weight and lustre of the pearls, which they assured me was identical. They did say the clasp was cheap, but for $20 and change, I thought it was worth a try. I also asked about the seaweed-it unfortunately is not on elastic and I don't think it would go over my head.

Now the twisted pearl is waitlisted-I think you've started something!

  58. apropos to nothing, I was poking around and found these look-alike Jeweled posy capri sandals from summer 2008:

    http://www.amazon.com/Coconuts-Matisse-Womens-Clover-Fuschia/dp/B001LDKS4S/ref=sr_1_36?ie=UTF8&s=shoes&qid=1257991802&sr=1-36#

I have the JCrew version and LOVE THEM! :)

    ReplyDelete
  59. Ji, I'd been looking for that necklace, thanks for remembering! Luckily for me, Heidi tipped me off to one which should be arriving soon from CA.

sweetsy, the give and get online code is onetime use only. If you want mine, email me at klg_12@hotmail.com.

corry, I'm bummed about the seaweed, but you were smart to think about the elastic possibility. My noggin is too big for the cuteness. I hope I like the ribbon pearl adult necklace I ordered, which will dull my pain a bit!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Idc-
I am a big fan of my Lizza jacket. It's a very boxy/voluminous cut naturally - I would size down. It doesn't really fit close to the body like other suit jackets. I tend to wear mine with just the first button done - and, by the way, this is the only button that is exposed, so I think the jacket looks a bit odd when buttoned the whole way.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Thanks for the heads up Heidi..they seem like nice gifts--nice colors, simple and pretty;)

If anyone has a GAP G&G coupon they would like to forward, I would appreciate it!

  62. Heidi: Thanks for the heads up! Looks like the main page is updated an the rest of the site is....um, not? I can't get *anything* to come up! But new stuff! And new pretty pictures to look at! I can't wait to get the catalog... :)

  63. sweetsy - Will forward to you right now.

  64. Shulvr,
I lived in Europe for 3 1/2 years. I still think the handbags I bought there were much better quality than I have seen at JCrew. To each his own....Have you ever seen a Radley bag??? (U.K) To die for quality. Bloomingdales just started selling them....

    ReplyDelete
  65. Ugh...just got a glimpse of the Panneau Silk Cami (item #20285) - this is new, right? Seriously, did they run out of fabric and start using trash bags? Or maybe they're trying to go with "found" materials. That is *not* an attractive look (course it might be perfectly fine IRL, but even on the model this one's a bit....YEESH.)

    ReplyDelete
  66. Heidi: I'm with ya! Though on my last trip to the B&M yesterday I saw some new bracelets/bangles that I'm not seeing online. I was totally in love with them - I might have to go back. :)

In other news - more colors of the Silk Frances Cami! The Moroccan Blue is SO pretty... Bright colors - so shocking!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Yes, the new arrivals are online:) Yeah! I actually see some pretty things. I haven't liked a roll out in so long I almost forgot what it is like to fill up a pretend shopping basket of new stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Hey All:
Thanks a bunch for the GAP coupons..I should be all set;) Enjoy all the new JC goodies!!

    ReplyDelete
  69. The new roll outs are here! Website just updated in the last 20 minutes!

  70. Wow, the new roll outs are actually really cute, and good price points for most of the things I like.

  71. Hi,

Has anyone ever received a price adjustment on a sale item before? I ordered the Chimera jacket on Monday for $149 & I noticed today it was $99. I called JC and was told they don't do price adjustment on sale items.

    Just wondering...

    ReplyDelete
  72. Yea, a fair isle sweater! Can we order one that hasn't been put in the dryer?

    ReplyDelete
  73. RatsOnParade - I have a review coming up on the panneau. Matte trash bag cut into carwash strips. I'm not sure the time of the review, but I'm pretty sure it's tomorrow.

GoldCoastGal - I tried to get an adjustment on a sale item last week. I was on the VIP line, just seeing if I might have different 'luck.' No dice.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Yay--Frances top is on sale finally. I am loving the additional colors that are on sale. Where was J. Crew hiding these all this time!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Yeah, no price adjustments on sale items. I know people here on the blog do get lucky sometimes though and get them. If you get a CS rep that does one they just don't know the rules....and you win that time around...

    ReplyDelete
  76. ldc & Annika: Thanks for your thoughts! I guess I will just have to try it out. I live in upstate NY so any little bit of extra warmth certainly helps.
