Extra 20% Off J.Crew's Final Sale

"Thanks!" to many of you, including GigiOfCa, Naomi, & Egggy (in this post), who let us know about J.Crew's latest promotion.

J.Crew is offering an additional 20% off sale items (no minimum) using promo code EXTRA20 . This offer expires Sunday, 10/11/09.

Not going to lie, I am very excited to see this sale. Especially since I did not see it coming! I ended up purchasing the Campo Messenger bag and eagerly waiting for its arrival now. :)

Are you planning to check out J.Crew's Sale Section? Did you take advantage of this offer? If so, please share! :)

  1. I am having a hard time purchasing knowing that some people are getting the 20% off plus free shipping (Congrats ladies/gents! What a great deal). There are a couple of things I would like, but I think I will hold out for new arrivals. Not worth losing most of the discount to shipping.

  2. Has anyone returned a cashmere sweater to JCrew after several weeks/months due to quality? I'm wondering if they accepted the return.

I really want to get the Cashmere rolled-scoopneck tunic but am scared to death because of all the bad reviews about JCrew cashmere.

Also, the Dream Campton Vest looks really good on w/tight jeans. I have wide hips so I sized up from my regular size small to a medium.

  3. have you seen the crewcuts new email? i love the girls' accessories and wish they fit me! ... maybe they do... i would forward the email but i'm not sure how :)

  4. I have returned a cashmere sweater after several months. I returned a femme sweater last year after the 60 days and several wearings because it pilled and lost its shape.

They gave me my money back with no questions asked. But then I am lucky to have a good relationship with several of the SAs in my local B&M.

  5. I rarely shop Jcrew online because of their rediculous shipping costs, but today with 20% I finally bought a couple items I was eyeing and surprised Jcrew didn't take them down until after the sale. I purchased the Ikat dress in warm maise and the Poppy jacket. I'm concerned if they don't fit I won't be able to return/exchange them, however, at my local B&M I've never had a problem with returning FS merchandise, but you never know. Has anyone had problems returning final sale?

  6. Thanks Kitsmommy. It's funny, for all the holes in my tissue t's and some of my art & candy tee's, I've never returned them. The cost of the t's with holes probably exceeds the cost of one cashmere sweater yet I've never tried to return them.

I have returned FS items to the b&m but only after calling JCrew & requesting they note the order. The last two times I did this, and I don't try to return often, the cs told me they'd do it as a one time courtesy.

  7. Just pulled the trigger on bubble necklace in graphite. I was revisiting the America catalog and seeing the necklace on Lauren Hutton really tempted me. But the 20% off barely covered the shipping cost...

  8. I got the strapless dressy jersey dress everyone raved abut this summer, in aqua, for $30 including shipping. Not too shabby...

    ReplyDelete
  9. Hmm...I am really tempted to get some things that have been reduced. I just have a hard time justifying them since I won't be able to wear them until next Spring/Summer.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Appgal, I'm totally with you. There are things that I've wanted all summer that finally went on sale - but straight to final sale and I won't be able to wear them until next summer....I'd rather spend the cash I have now on new cold weather things. I just ordered the pewter color ballet flats and they came with two huge scratches in the leather. I'm really becoming less and less enchanted with Jcrew.

  12. Of COURSE- I just placed an order of sale items yesterday. I HATE when this happens.

  13. Aww, I was thinking about that bubble necklace! Would probably be too big for me anyway...

I had a horrible time trying to exchange something on FS at my store yesterday. A pair of white pants which were completely see through (I guess I shouldn't have tried ordering white pants though.) I tried to exchange them as a gift, and they took about 10 minutes trying to call the customer service #, trying to track through phone, address, name, state. It was ridiculous. I finally just took them and left. Yes, I bought something on Final Sale I shouldn't have, but I wasn't pleased with the quality. Their customer service policy is decidedly company-centric and not customer-centric. And, also, how the hell do they justify reducing a pair of shoes from $250 by 20% or so, and still considering that final sale? Final sale skirts for $99?? It's completely ridiculous! Especially with their inconsistent sizing, etc.

  15. Finally pulled the trigger on the pearl cluster necklace and boyfriend tee in plum raisin, neither of which were in the final sale section, looking forward to the new roll out.

  16. This 20% off without free shipping just doesn't do it for me. Like many have noted, it barely covers shipping, and if you end up returning an item or two, that negates the deal. With a sale like this, I'm only going to order things I feel really confident about my size and the quality, like Jackie sweaters, so I won't have to return. I love the percent off for CC though! With the automatic free ship, I jump right over to the girl's sale and buy for the next year (sometimes two) without feeling guilty. I've been able to get the next couple sizes of Riley jeans, bathing suits, and tons of cute jersey dresses on the percent off sales. Today I just got DD a cozy hoodie that she can wear for the next couple years, and a cute basic tee. I love the CC free ship, also, since with no minimum, I don't have to worry about having a certain amount in the cart or ride alongs, or anything that plagues me when I buy for my husband and myself.

marisa, I bought myself a CC necklace before, and it is so cute! I'd never be able to wear the rings or bracelets, but barrettes and necklaces are fine. If you have teeny wrists, try a bracelet, I think most have stretch to them, and you can always return it if it doesn't work.

  17. How does jcrew swimwear fit? I wear size 2/XS in pretty much everything, but never bought swimwear. Please advise! Thanks!

  18. Thanks Cheesygoodness. I put my boys' stuff in my cart and now i'll go and look at the girls!

  19. Agh. Bit the bullet. I just couldn't turn down the beautiful Jakarta halter dress (that was $140) for $39.99. I also got the Constellation locket as a Christmas present for my grandmother. Anyone have that necklace that can comment on it?

  20. IRL-
I have not returned a sweater before but my understanding is that if you do not have a history of returning items they will usually make an exception and allow you to do a return. The key would be that the item is defective. If your sweater is pilling more then what would be considered normal or if it falls apart after one wearing then they would probably allow you to return it. J. Crew is usually good about letting customers return something if it is poor quality/ defective.

I saw a girl at my B&M last night bring back a tee with chiffon trim b/c it was fraying and they allowed her to return the item.

    Laura-
Try and call CS. If you talk to CS they can make a note on your account and allow you to return the item in store. Explain to them that you bought the pants online and you had no way of knowing that they would be so sheer and you simply cannot wear them out in public, it was not your intent to return them but you would like for them to make a one time exception for you. Most likely CS will note your account and then you can return them to the store. If the SA at the store tries to tell you “no” you can tell her you called CS and they put a note on your account. This is probably the only way you will be able to return them.

  21. Elena:
I've only worn one-piece swimsuits from JC. They fit true to size IMO.

I ordered some CC for my DD and since they offered free shipping. Oh how I wish I had free shipping for my stuff from JC like I always do with BR orders (luxe card holders). Why can't they allow us to stack free shipping code with this extra20? I know, I know, JC wants to take more money from me! Some of the prices on FS is ridiculous considering summer is over and some of the items were just marked down barely.

As for FS returns, as long as it's not marked FS on the receipt I've had no problems returning it. However, when I tried to exchange to a different color/size over the phone, I've had CS that did not allow me to do this.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Has anyone tried the hammered metal skirt item # 17702 and can offer an opinion? Could be a nice casual weekend piece - if it looks as good IRL.

    TIA

  23. There are a few things I would like, but the markdowns are not that much even with the 20% off (which gets put back mostly by shipping costs). I'm waiting a bit longer. Other stores are having 40% off already reduced stuff so it's hard to bite.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I have returned a Final Sale item once. I cannot remember the name of the sweater, but I had 2 of them already when I decided to order another one in a different color when these went to the Final Sale section. I figured it would fit since I already had two. Well, the item arrived and it was 1 size too big even though the label said XS. So I took the sweaters I already owned and the Final Sale one and the SA accept it the return because the item was defective.
    Hope this helps.

  25. AppGal - I have the Contellation locket. It is nice, but very long, so depending on your g-mom's height, it may be too big. The locket itself is cute with nice little crystals inset on it.

I'm off to check the sale section now, although I really wish they would do an all-store percent off for the holiday weekend. I've gotten a zillion emails about other retailers having promotions.

  26. Update: I e-mailed Jcrew.com customer service and let stated that I felt uncomfortable paying for such an expensive dress without having the flexibility to return/exchange. I got an e-mail back asking for the order number and that they would notate the account for me to return/exchange. Hope this helps. :)

  27. Just an FYI is anyone is interested. The Rose tee from Ann Taylor Loft is back on the website.

  28. Just snagged the space-dyed cotton cardigan & the pearl cluster necklace.
I returned/exchanged four art t's last month in store with no problem. Two of them because the chiffon looked horrible after just a few wears and the other two had holes.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Elena-I have tried on Jcrew swimwear and it runs big IMO. I wear a size 2 in bottoms and a size 0 in tops and the XS was even a little roomy for some styles. For bikini's, I get an XS. I've never tried their one-pieces. I never actually ended up purchasing their bikini bottoms because they rised up just a little to high. I am 5'6 and have a short torso so perhaps that's why they don't work well for me.

  30. Re FS returns: I was disappointed in a recent FS sweater that was huge compared to my comparable JC sweaters. I called and asked to return it, assuming that it was mislabled. The CSA checked the measurements and said that it was supposed to be that way. (40" at hem for size small?) I really had to press to get her to agree to take it back as the "one-time courtesy."

At one point in the conversation she said "Why don't you take it back to your nearest store?" as if catalog expected that a store would take it back even if catalog wouldn't. I thought that was strange--is it FS or not?--but it does seem that many JCAs are able to return FS to B&M.

  31. Finally! I've been waiting for this forever. Extra20 made it worth it for me to buy a new suit - wool crepe two button with pant and skirt. :) I've needed/wanted "nice" interview suits for awhile now.

Of course, I also bought some other little things like, a couple of boatneck tees and adorned tees. With the extra20, it makes it totally worth it. You can always layer during the winter.

Oh, and I took a chance on the bubble necklace. It was $55+ with the sale and I've had my eye on it for awhile now. I hope it works out!

I think I'll need to "retire" my jcrew cc for awhile now. haha.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I don't think JCrew can refuse a return, FS or not. I'd just put it in the mail to them. It's not like they are going to ship it back to you, and they can't not credit you for something in their possession. You can always dispute the charge with your credit card company, and they certainly know this, and this is something in my experience that most companies want to avoid.

I agree with others that online FS is bogus. How can you not be able to return something that you've never seen or tried on?

I ordered a cashmere sweater with the additional 20% off. I do have a hoodie from a few years back that has pilled pretty substantially, but for some reason the pills on the cashmere don't bother me as much as the pills on the dream sweater, which IMO makes the dream unwearable, because it looks awful.

I agree with what others have said about being able to get non-pilling cashmere elsewhere, but I also agree that for the price (esp. with additional 20% off), JCrew cashmere is a reasonable buy. I love the colors and the cashmere from this season is pretty soft. Of course, I can't do a long-term comparison since I haven't been buying it for more than a couple of years.

I'm looking forward to the new arrivals next week! Happy weekend and happy shopping to all.

  33. I purchased the velvet Eden blazer, the Charlie ruffled suede platform Mary Janes, the Cossette Mary Jane peep toes, and the Pearl-cluster necklace using EXTRA20. I was also able to get the Beaded ribbon-front top in antique stone in my size in a pop back! So, even though I paid $18.50 in shipping, I saved approx $122. These are items I have been wanting, so to me it's a pretty good deal.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Re: pilling. The last few days I've had to throw on a sweatshirt or double layer tees since every sweater I want to wear from last year is too pilly. I guess I put everything away without using the fuzzbuster comb, now the depill pile is daunting. The comb is OK for one or two things at a time, but I think I need to invest in an electric model. Can anyone recommend a decent and inexpensive sweater shaver? My cardis and I send thinks in advance!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yes, I definitely took advantage of the Lexi satchel and some cashmere sweaters. I haven't really bought any cashmere from JC, so it will be interesting. I couldn't resist some of the colors ;)

  36. There are some items in the regular section that have a markdown ending in ".00" or ".50" that also qualify for the 20% off but are not final sale. They do not show up in the sale section. Montebello driving mocs are an example.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Corry,
YES, they WILL SEND IT BACK.
I send a final sale jacket couple months ago with my other returns and they mailed me back the jacket with a note saying " sorry, this was a final sale item etc etc "
They didnt charge me to send it back though :-)
No harm in trying though..someone might get lucky

  38. This is what I needed. I've had 4 things in my shopping bag for weeks & I finally checked out.

I got the Velvet Eden blazer I've been wanting since it came out. I also got the metallic lexi clutch for my wedding and the ikat halter dress for my honeymoon. Threw in a pair of tights at regular price. Sucks to pay $18 in shipping, but I just got $650 worth of clothes for $320. Used a birthday gift card & saved even more!

  39. I bought the jakarta halter dress and brynn dress :-)
Only the jakarta was marked final sale

  42. Okay, I just bit the bullet and ordered the delphine pencil skirt (beige and papaya horizontal stripes). I saw it in the store, and it's gorgeous!

  44. YES!!! I know that they almost never do this, but I emailed the Crew after finding out about the 20% off sale and asked them to apply it to the rather large order I placed yesterday and they said YES, and are granting me a refund. OH HAPPY DAY.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Thanks, missmasala, for correcting me on this/sharing your experience. I find this unbelievably bad business practice, and am so sorry to hear this happened to you! Sending stuff back has worked for me, but perhaps it has backfired as well. Despite my spending I do not have VIP status, apparently (my husband this morning joked that I must have PIA status. . . pain in the a**!) Ha ha.

  49. OT: I also posted this on the Seek and Find thread.

I'm back from my B&M and they only had a handful of new arrivals. The manager said they were really surprised because this rollout was expected to be a large one.

There were several new sweaters including a black and cream one that is called the Cailyn Marled Cardi. It feels fantastic on and is actually a very flattering fit, too. It retails for $128. The blue and white check mens shirt now comes in the female version. However, it is still called the Mens Check Rick shirt and it retails for $64. It seems to be running true to size. I saw the sleeveless top with the cut outs at the neck but didn't even try it on once I realized it had a side zipper. There is a new black dress about the same length as the Madeline from last year but it has a different neckline and cap sleeves. It retails for $198. If I remember correctly, the neckline on it is actually more of a boatneck, with wide ribbon detailing on it. The sale section had the usual suspects and was NOT 20% off like it is online.

  50. Hello Everyone here
Ouch, I just got city lux cords on sale but w/out 20% off :(

  53. J. Olimpia - I've been there a few times, huge number of outlet stores there, plan on a whole day if you can, especially with Columbus Day sales, but it will be totally packed. The JC crewlet is pretty large and the SA's are nice. For coupons go to www.premiumoutlets.com and join the VIP club. Free to sign up and you can print tons of coupons, plus you get a voucher for the private outlet coupon book they give out (aka save more $$). Good luck!

I ordered the Ink Dot Dress earlier this week, and today ordered the cashmere pocket cardi. I signed in to my account and got FREE SHIPPING. Did you all forget about that????

  54. Caved and got the most adorable Crewcuts Lem Lem Party Dress- $175 Originally now $40. I also cannot resist the deals on swimwear! $19.99 + 20% off- I already had ordered the Paisley suit and one of the lomellina suits and loved them both when they arrived earlier this week so could not resist getting 2 more. I have logged in to my account numerous times and never gotten Free shipping, but today I called CS I got 20% + Free ship:)

  59. I have made multiple purchases with the free shipping but they were all small. Today I bought the metallic Carina t strap heels which were $32 plus free shipping, and I got a few more pairs of the Aran wool socks from last year. I am mildly obsessed with them... and now I have about 10 pairs. They are the best for wearing with boots, and I wear boots almost daily!

I really want the silk sonnet blouse but $70 is still way too expensive for a probably sheer and ridiculously delicate blouse.

  60. i would love to get some shoes but i'm not sure what size i am. does anyone have a pair of driving mocs in 10 or 11? and also, any heels in the same sizes so they can measure the insole?

  61. Anyone who saw the double serge trench, is this the spy or a different one? Could you let me know what kind of collar it had and how much it was? My store does not get much outerwear, so I usually have to hunt down things in other stores. Thanks in advance!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Kitsmommy,

I tried on the new double serge heather gray trench in the store yesterday. I think the collar was just a regular collar. It was very cute! The 6 fit me fine, which is my normal size in tops & coats (except the Lady Day coat, I wear an 8). I appreciated your review on the spy trench.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Kitsmommy--

I think the price on the trench was around $258.

  64. I ended up ordering the cashmere scoopneck tunic in dusty blossom and a painter's tee in black. I also ordered the bucket hat. Does anyone have that? I'm not sure about it, but I need a hat, and it seems very cute and versatile.

  67. Has anyone tried out The Laundress's sweater stone for cashmere? I would like to use it on last year's J.Crew cashmere that I have in my closet as it is piling-but only a little since I have babyied them and handwashed them. Any reviews or tips would be helpful thanks ladies! :)

  68. So, I thought I'd just peruse the sale section, only to find myself purchasing a lot of items!! Hopefully, I'll like all of them once they arrive, otherwise they'll end up on the weekly exchange :)

  69. Do any of you have opinions of the sherpa lined hoodies? I remember my husband lusting over these last xmas and there are some on sale right now. He is a tall-large normally. His winter coat is that size from three years ago, have they vanity sized the men too?? Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I caved and bought the edelyn ruffled lawn dress since it is finally on sale! It is only $20 less on sale and the 20% barely covered shipping but I just LOVE this dress!

    ReplyDelete
  71. I didn't order anything from this FS. I loaded up a $400 or so cart, but was uninspired without free shipping. I was sure about $200 of it, but if I am stuck with items that don't fit, the shipping seems painful. Yes, I emailed for measurements but they just aren't a guarantee of how things work irl.

I realize $18.50 in shipping is not a lot to pay, considering the savings fom the original retail. However, the savings are not worth anything if I am stuck w/items I cannot wear due to bad colors and poor fit that canont be saved thru alterations. Plus, our tax is so high and it really cuts into the additional %.

** GlobeTrotter - If you do a search on the main page here, you can find threads that discuss the sweater stone. I'm pretty sure. Be sure to use the field to the right of the blog that says "Search the {entire} JCA blog"

** marisa - I don't think the men's side of things has become vanity sized.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Amanda --- just wanted to follow up with you re: Ink Dot Dress. I bought a size up to fit my chest, but I did not have to at all, it was in fact too big there and everywhere else. TTS I believe, maybe slightly big. The crappy belt didn't stay belted properly so I returned it anyway (no problem returning it). A different belt may have worked, though. It was kinda short on me, too, with a superfull skirt. So if you are tall, I would think about that aspect.
