J.Crew Email: Ends tomorrow—EXTRA 20% OFF final sale.

"Thanks!" to Marietta who shared an email that was sent this morning.

J.Crew is reminding us about the additional 20% off sale items (no minimum) using promo code EXTRA20 . This offer expires tomorrow, 9/10/09.

From the comments in yesterday's "J.Crew Offers a Little Sunshine with 20% Off Sale" post, it sounds like some of you are not planning to take advantage of this offer because you were all shopped out this Labor Day weekend. ;)

Are you planning to check out J.Crew's Sale Section? Did you take advantage of this offer? If so, please share! :)

Quick Poll: Will you take advantage of the EXTRA20 promotion?

64 comments:

  1. I'm going to send an e-mail back to J.Crew ... "Tick tock, I'm waiting for a red card or private sale, something from J.Crew to keep up with the competition." :-)

    Anybody want to co-sign?

  2. Too little, too late. They should have had this sale Labor Day weekend.

  3. Add my name, La Belle Helene. I love J Crew, but they aren't significantly better than some of the stores offering real incentives to their customers (and free shipping doesn't count).

Are you listening J Crew??? I have a coat, a jacket and two sweaters sitting in my cart and I am not buying until I get at least 20% off.

  4. I will not be purchasing anything from Final Sale, especially knowing that a lot of the items are returns that have *issues*.

  5. Hmm...Here's a post for you Alexis.

"What fall clothing are you planning to buy during next spring's final sale?" ;)

I sure hope they really got the inventory quantities just right if they want to sell out at full price. Otherwise, all these odd pastels are going to seem really odd to buy early next year and save for next fall.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Wonder if they will extend the promo and include free shipping. Not that it would entice me, especially with all the *issues*, as FFM said.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Interestingly, there has been no restock during the 20% off so far, and I doubt there will be tomorrow either. Watch for a big restock on Friday, after the code has expired.

  8. Desert Flower - that's exactly what I was thinking! I'd like another Double Serge skirt, but they don't have the colors I want in my size. They'll probably magically appear as soon as the promo is over :(

    ReplyDelete
  9. I'm not buying unless they throw in either free shipping with % off or 30-40% addition off sale.
20% off is not enough with shipping and taxes...

    ReplyDelete
  10. I am not willing to take the chance ordering popbacks too many issues.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I just received a ship notice on a popback item I ordered last week after looking for it a long time. Hearing some of the comments, I am worried that it is going to be stained, washed, or worn!

I don't understand why JC thinks we should be excited about 20% off FS when so many of the items have been on FS for months (with no further markdowns).

P.S. Has anyone tried the Land's End Audrey cords? LE has a lot of JC-ish stuff lately and at $34.50 the Audreys might be a decent substitute for the matchstick cord.

  12. I have successfully stayed away from this promo, which is a huge deal for me. I am proud of myself. ;-)

We all know it's not worth a lot in savings after tax & shipping, plus the horror stories about items coming from the warehouse...boo on that.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Nothing in the sale section that I really *have* to have. I'm waiting for some of the new fall items to be marked down a bit or a % off everything promo. Sorry J.Crew!

  14. Those complaints about getting defective returned items in the final sale are valid. This summer is the first time that I had that problem. I had to return a blouse because of it had lipstick (yes, pink gloss) on the inside (i do not wear makeup, so it is impossible it was me). The other one was a collection item, still at a high price, and it was missing some sequins. I am glad that they took them back, but J Crew puts their customers in a very uncomfortable position. Not only I didn't keep the items at the end, but what if next time I get some other defective item they come up with the excuse that I ruined them? They should check very well what they are shipping to us. --So, after those two, I am afraid of giving it a new try to the final sale.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well, it's not a final sale item...but they have the Crystal Garden necklace (nearly identical to the Crystal Libretto necklace) for $60 instead of $98.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Like many ladies, I've successfully stayed away from purchasing anything at all from the sale, and even J.Crew in general since the last private shopping event in DC! Woohoo!

I guess I've stayed away too long for J.Crew since they sent me an email reminding me of the available credit I have on my J.Crew card. LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I got Juliet patent-leather midheels and Crystal garden necklace since it’s on sale with EXTRA20.

    ReplyDelete
  18. nothing for me, I have a credit that has been staying around for a while! I am receiving the sage frances that was backordered this week, but not holding my breath on that one!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Thanks for the Lands End tip. They also have some very nice regular and argyle cotton cardigans that look like they won't stretch out of shape. They look comparable to the Jackie.

  20. OT - but anyone interested in items at BR, I just received a 9 hour coupon (12-9pm) for today only 09/09/09:

20% off or 25% off (if you use your BR, ON, Gap card), plus free shipping on orders over $99

    Code: BR9HOURS

  21. With all the talk about other stores, I went into ATL yesterday and got several things very crew-ish for almost NOTHING. Used style rewards cards and the ad from People Style Watch for 20% off FP items and $200-something worth of clothes cost me $77. :) If you combine, ask the cashier to enter the rewards cards first, then the dicount code. It won't work the other way around.
ITA about the lack of JC promos and quality issues. I tried on the purple paisley shirt this weekend and a button fell off. Then put a Maya over it and the finish of one button chipped right off. I told the SA and it appeared that she put them right back out on the floor! Nothing exciting in the store, except that my PS gave me the rust color 4-pocket merino cardi for the online sale price, which was nice of him. The cashier tried to tell me she couldn't do it, but luckily he intervened. I have $1000+ FP in my cart and am not budging on it until there is some promo (as in not FS)

  22. Its so weird that they did not update the sale section from yesterday. Sneaky Jcrew!

  23. I'm on the ban wagon for myself this month, but I did grab a few small things for my daughter for next summer, since you can do the 20% off with the CC free shipping. The only thing I'd get this month is the cotton corsage cardigan, that I tried to get at the end of last month instore, but one of the buttons was falling off. (I wonder if it went back on the floor that way?) I really didn't think it would sell out like it did, since so much detritus has been gunking up final sale for months! You win some, you lose some.

So, my good CS story from a few weeks ago turned out to be longer and dumber than I thought. I'd ordered a CC bikini, and only the top came. I called and since my original style was sold out, I got a different style for the same price (newer one was more expensive) and overnight ship. When that came, it only had the top, AGAIN! Another call, second bikini was already sold out, had to get a completely different style price adjusted, then overnighted. It took about three days to come, but it had both pieces in good condition.

Seriously, there is NOBODY doing quality control in the warehouse. It really does make me wary of the popbacks, it seems safer to keep an eye on the exchange for those missed items.

    ReplyDelete
  24. The Crocodile cocktail jacket I ordered last week (popback!) just arrived. I had tried to cancel my order but it shipped nonetheless.

It's really nice, a heavier material than I expected and therefore will work through the early fall and even late fall/winter with a pashmina scarf. Hopefully I'll still love it come spring! ;-)

After hearing about the pre-worn stuff some JCAs have received, I looked it over carefully but it seems to be ok. The back vent is still stitched shut and the hanger & padding were tidy.

For $69, reg. $168, a pretty good deal.

  26. The quality control problem is not just the popbacks, it is on the Fall fp items as mommydearest pointed out in her post. I have had most of my problems with the fp stuff with the exception of the matchstick cords.

Alexis how about a post about the good quality items that is worth paying fp for or the ones JCAs are happy with? just a suggestion.

  27. Thanks Hexicon for the heads up on Lands End! I just purchased the Aubrey Cords with a free ship code. The price is great and I LOVE that you can choose the inseam down to the quarter inch. My fingers are crossed that they fit!

    ReplyDelete
  28. And if anyone is interested, here is the free ship code for Lands End:

    Code: SEPT1
    PIN 00001145

No minimum, lasts until Sept 10th.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Add my name to the list of people who have been having recent and persistent quality control issues. I can't keep track of the returns I've had to make in the past couple of months. What is going on? (And, more to the point, why am I still buying??? Actually, I haven't bought anything for several weeks, so maybe things are finally starting to sink in).

I agree with the previous poster that I have had so many problems, and get bombarded with so many "oh, we are so surprised, because quality is something we feel so strongly about" statements, that I am starting to think that they think I am doing something to damage the clothes! It does put the customer in a terrible position, hassle, disappointment, and all, despite the overnight shipping courtesies.

And then to read that Mickey dumped his stock!

Despite all the hype, I'm wondering if bad news is ahead.

  30. Boden is having a good sale

20% off today and tomorrow, free ship and returns

    no code

    ReplyDelete
  31. I just placed a Boden order a couple of hours ago. I really like their clothing and accessories and bold colors for the fall season.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I doubt i will order anything off the website anymore which is sad because I don't always have time to visit JC to take advantage of their sales. I ordered a bag, and had to take it back. It looked like a powder compact had exploded on the inside zippered pocket. Recently, I ordered a jacket and a tshirt. Both items had issues. The jacket had a sleeve almost an inch longer and the pockets were uneven. The tshirt was oddly stretched out at the neck area.

  33. I no longer buy JCrew T-shirts because the T-shirts get holes in them, even the perfect fit T-shirts. I just bought some stretch white T's from the Gap. They are classic white T's and are on sale for $12.50 each if you buy two. They fit like the perfect fit T's but the fabric is more durable and the white less see-through. I suggest sizing down.

  34. The list of things I won't buy for quality reasons from J.Crew now also includes tees. Slub tees I've bought there have developed holes in no time flat, I've read numerous posts on here lamenting the tees' quality ... and just yesterday, I discovered while wearing my cherished Carte de Gaul tee that the embroidery is unraveling from the inside out. Grrr.

So tees are on the list, along with cashmere sweaters and anything in the dream yarn.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Another funny CC return was the absofreakinglutely cute rose tee. The website pic was a coral pink slub cotton short sleeve with a maroon velvet rose graphic. When it came, the front of the tee was as pictured, but the back of the shirt was a much different color! I went back and checked the description, and there was no mention of that "detail." I had to call and complain since it was final sale, but they did let me return it in the end. Did anyone else get a weird one?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh, and as I stood up from the computer, a stone fell off the marquis stone sash belt that I'm wearing today for the first time. The JC vengeance strikes fast and furiously, I guess I better keep any more complaints to myself!

    ReplyDelete
  37. No Final Sale for me, although there are a couple of items that I would like to buy when they do go on sale. I'm sure a lot of the full price items will be discounted quickly given the rampant reports of quality issues and a reluctance to buy at current prices.

The ability of the retail industry to cure itself of discounting is extremely limited. They will do well to remember that they don't set prices, consumers do. Pricing strategies in the industry reflect two realities: you can get a few hardcore fashion lovers to pay full retail (so you start high) and you need to scream "deal" to the rest of us. That isn't going to change.

    ReplyDelete
  38. My *exciting* purchase on the FS consisted of a Mandarin Henley in heather grey (love those Mandarin style tops). I hope it arrives w/o holes and the smell of laundry detergent!

I love to shop at Boden, as well. Never had any quality issues at Boden. I'm wearing one of their Fun Skirts today, in fact! Sorry, JC, I'm off to the Boden site...

    ReplyDelete
  39. Kay, please let us know how the Land's End Audrey cords fit. It looks like they won't be quite as low as the city fit but the legs looked nice and skinny--pretty fashion-forward for Land's End, and a steal at half the price of the matchsticks plus free shipping!

I'm getting nervous because some of the suiting items I'm interested in are backordered, but I just can't do FP right now.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I have a 15% off code for Land's End, no minimum purchase. Valid online until 11:59 pm CDT September 10.

Details say valid for me and a friend, that the code and PIN will work twice.

I won't use it so if someone wants to use and share with another, email me and I'll send you the details.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thanks for posting, I thought since it appeared in the Canadian catalog it was Canadian specific. Good news.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Re the quality issues with catalog orders: I just noticed that my most recent order shipped from Seacacus NJ. (good news for me bc I got it the next day!) didnt they used to ship from Lynchburg? I wonder if there are increased qc issues in involved?

    ReplyDelete
  45. FYI BR.com is having 20% (25 with you banana card) off until 9pm EST tonight. Free ship with $99+ (only $7 regularly) code is BR9HOURS

    ReplyDelete
  46. I haven't bought any JC for awhile now, didn't even use my rewards card. The last thing I did buy was the striped boatneck tee. Had it shipped all the way from FL and it got a hole in the shoulder after one wear.
I did however place a M+O order last night. I hope their stuff holds up better

    ReplyDelete
  47. Lands' End code has been claimed.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Darn it, I caved. I got a painter henley tee and a pair of linen beach shorts. Now let's see if they actually show up. I myself have never received anything that appeared to be a catalog return or the wrong item or wrong size, but there's a first time for everything, right? I *almost* ordered the mica mini because i loved how it looked with the henly, but then I got real with myself and said 'Elaine, you are 36 and work in an office, you are not going to wear that look anywhere.' So shorts it was. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Bought the papillion dress- I've loved it forever. Not sure if the 6 will be too big, but it doesn't show up as FS in my email receipt, so we'll see. Otherwise, you'll see it on the weekly exchange!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I won't be buying anything from this final sale. It really burns me up that they raised the price of the Frenchie slicker (not that I was planning to purchase it, but it's the principle) as soon as the coupon code was issued AND they removed all of the Jackie cardigans and shells that were in the FS section pre-code. Either they really think we're morons or these promotions are for J. Crew regulars.

I am starting to look at Anthro, AT, BR, and Boden all a little more closely myself. I almost feel a bit of guilt, but hey, JC didn't feel any guilt about the shoddily made dress I received this summer or about the sneaky FS games they're playing.

    ReplyDelete
  51. update: Frances in SAGE is reallllllly cute! I'm writing a review with IRL as we speak.

and on the frenchie, I'm fairly certain that the grey was always $89.99; the khaki went down to $69.99 but since it's sold out when you just look at the listing without going to the sizes available it says "select colors $89.99" -- I bought it for $72 with some % off and adore it - wore it many times and my size long sold out. If you're in warm weather I actually think it's worth it. just my 2cents!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Tempted to purchase the watercolor tortoiseshell pencil skirt and the double serge pencil skirt in coal, but am waiting till tomorrow-- i have an order coming with the double serge skirt in bronzed twig that should arrive then (of course, ordered pre-promo), and i want to check out the item in person first.

I'm disappointed with the lack of additions to final sale and am waiting for a promo on the new fall items, as well as the next part of the fall roll out

    ReplyDelete
  53. A few others mentioned Boden-I love their kids stuff. It is extremely well made and very cute! I just wish they would re-vamp the women's line a bit and make it more stylish. If they did they would have all my business. Hands down best quality, customer service, always free ship, free returns and no time limit on returns! Checkout their rosebud cardigan-very cute:)

    ReplyDelete
  54. M & O has 40% off on their sweaters, plus free ship over $100.00. There is also another 30% code that can be used on top of that. To get the code check Shannons blog, Wardrobe Review.

  55. Wow, it pays to shop other places than JCrew right now! What great deals everyone is posting. Thanks. In this economy every penny counts:)

    ReplyDelete
  56. mommydearest, all of my orders have shipped from Secaucus (getting to me in 2-3 days) with the exception of my last - placed on August 31 - that shipped from Salt Lake City (?). I was unaware there was even a warehouse there - my package has been "in transit" for over a week. Weird!

    ReplyDelete
  57. silver_lining, all your orders? It doesn't seem like mine were say, a couple months ago, because I think they took a lot longer to get here Then again, maybe I just didn't notice. Anyway, it's nice that now it's only a day, except when UPS "reschedules" for no apparent reason.

Stopped in to B&M and the whirling ruffles cardi is on sale for $29.99. Too bad I bought it FP last month, but they were out of grey anyway and it's boycott JCrew month ;)

    ReplyDelete
  58. Yawn. I checked today to see if anything popped back up that I had to have. Not a thing. If they don't offer a discount on fall stuff soon, I will have spent all my fall clothing money elsewhere. I was really wanting the velvet blazer :o(

    ReplyDelete
  59. Hardly any update during this entire final sale period. Very disappointed. I received 2 of my orders placed last weekend... so glad that J.Crew shipped me the CORRECT items (pop-back) without any flaws.

OT, dropped by the LOFT store at Times Square after work. It was a great Fashion Night Out event going on there! They gave out the coupon for a free pair of jeans (NO purchase necessary)! Did I say FREE??!! They sent me a 30% off coupon for this event. The sweaters are like buy one get one half off and you can use the 30% off coupon on top of that! They're serving champagne with cookies. That's how the stores should be doing to get the consumers buying! Why can't J.Crew offer any promotional event like this? Seriously, none of the NY J.Crew stores here is doing any promo event at all.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Jean, I am jealous! That sounds like so much fun! Champagne and cookies doesn't sound bad either :oP

Loft is slowly adding some really cute items. I'm waiting on some of their new stuff to go on sale too!

    ReplyDelete
  61. HAHAHAHA yea, it was fun... drinking champagne and shopping at the same time... it's the best! LOFT does have some items "duplicated" from the J.Crew last Fall collection and apparently they're very sellable! The store also shows some pieces of their holiday collection which are very J.Crew! I started to wonder if the Ann Taylor/LOFT new designer used to work at J.Crew!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Jean, sounds so fun!

For some reason I thought that AT's new designer used to work for Liz Claiborn but I double-checked and it was actually Club Monaco (who knew it was owned by Polo?) and Gap/BR before that. I think that is rally interesting as the looks at CM and AT are so different. But I really like what she's doing with AT. Is she responsible for Loft too? Bc I'm really liking their stuff right now too! Now I can't wait to see holiday! :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. I bought the Lands' End Audrey cords in red grape, with the free shipping and they are quite lovely. A slight bit extra room in the back, but can't complain about custom inseam + $35!!

We'll have to see how it stands up to wear and tear.
