Sneak Peek Into J.Crew's Summer '09 Offerings

Awhile back, we got to see some Summer 2009 catalog images (please refer to the "Sneak Peek Into J.Crew's July Offerings {yey!}" post). "Thanks!" to Hutton (in this post) who let us know that over at FabSugar (click here), several new images of the upcoming Summer 2009 collection were revealed. Pink Lemonade also posted some of these images at her {great} blog (click here). Gossip Crew (in this post) correctly pointed out that the images are the same from J.Crew's look book (click here). :)

The following is FabSugar's take on J.Crew's latest arrivals:
Sneak Peek! J.Crew Collection, Summer '09
By FabSugar
June 10, 2009

J.Crew's Collection clothes are a step up from their usual feminine fodder. Luxurious fabrics and fine details make for a plush lineup. If things are overly frilly for you, at least revel in the keen styling. Brown belts softly break things up, jewelry is piled on haphazardly, cardigans are thrown over just so. Colors are sticky sweet: canary yellow, bougainvillea pink, misty gray, frothy cream. I've got my sights set on this ikat halter dress. Who would think to wear a sporty anorak over it? That would be the work of Ms. Jenna Lyons. Well played.
Many of the items are already available from the current catalog, although it looks like there may be a few new pieces. I will give J.Crew credit- the images are gorgeous and the styling is lovely! :) P.S. What is up with that shiny, button-down, skirt? I am soooo not lovin' it.

What are your thoughts on the items slated for upcoming Summer 2009? Which items do you love or would leave? ;) Do you agree with FabSugar's take on the images? :)

  1. Alexis, I know there are a lot of femmes on this blog, but remember you def have some guys who are crew crazy as well, everything seems slanted towards the girls lol, remember the fellas!

  2. I love the white linen and falling petals jacket. Cardigans (not the one with all the chiffon trim) are also my favorites. Btw, I got the stripe hat at my B&M last week since they were 30% off all hats. I also love the flower belt...mine should be coming soon since it was back ordered. But then, they all look good on the models, will see how it looks on me. ;)

  3. Btw, Alexis, I don't like the look of the gold button skirt either.

  6. pretty boy - maybe you could offer suggestions for posts that would be interesting to the male bloggers.

  7. I guess your right anony, I can't think of anything off the top of the head, I just always noticed things a lot of times seem geared toward the ladies. I see Jcrewguy in canada, and maybe a few other guys post but more often than not the comments section is bombarded by what skirt got picked up in what color and so forth. There are some gender neutral articles however dont get me wrong. It was just a random point I was making, I'll try to be a bit more constructive in my criticism henceforth...

  8. pretty boy - not sure how long you have been following Alexis' wonderful blog, but she often does create posts from suggestions, such as this post today. I believe she also did one on mens shorts from an article forwarded by Jcrew guy in Canada recently and there have been others. It may not be easy to know what men want to blog about wrt J.Crew.

So, take heart, you can influence the discussion if something comes to mind. ;-)

  9. Am I the only JCA impatiently anticipating fall previews?

I love a lot of the short sleeve summer cardis, but the colors are so blah. I wish they put out some cute greens. I'm so not a fan of neutrals on top.

  10. I'm thinking they look pretty great so far. I'm loving the flower stuff right now and apparently J.Crew is too :)

  11. I am not really into florals so this spring and summer have not been my fave seasons. Can't wait for the fall myself...

  12. Pretty Boy: LOL! I definitely remember the JC AficionadOs and post something just for you guys soon. :)

    Anony: Thanks! :)

JCMama: Happy to hear that I am not the only one concerned about that gold button skirt! ;)

  13. Request ... this morning I ordered the Jaquard Treasure jacket as a "ride along" to get the 20%. It popped back in my size for a ridiculous 39.99, and it was a weak moment :)

I know the initial reviews of this jacket were not positive (sofa?). I can return it, not FS, but I am wondering if there are any JCAs out there who have and LIKE this jacket, and if you do, what do you wear it with?

  14. I am kind of over the summer stuff. I feel like I keep seeing the same stuff and colors over and over again. SO ready for fall.

Off topic - just got my juliet heels, and I absolutely love them!! They are not TTS so I had to return them for a 1/2 size smaller.

  15. Hi all,

I agree w. Jersey09, not lovin' the colours. Also, I think a few greens would be a welcome change from the rather bleached neutrals & harsh yellows. Most esp. yellows like that strangely shiny skirt JCMama & Alexis spoke about earlier. Is it me, or does it look a little like the fabric used for the Lucido (aka the Slaughterhouse 5) jacket?

I took a look at the earlier post & realised that, aside from the pencil skirt with the stylised blue flowers, nothing really wowed me.

    Then I looked even further back for the fall preview posting. Much better! I guess I get to save up over the summer for the more splurge worthy stuff to come. So no worries Jersey, you are not alone in preferring the fall line :}

Oh & pretty boy, I did a search for "men" in the field at the upper left of the screen. There are a few great threads like the opening of the new soho store & Jenny's take on men's fashions. If you page back further, there was a great article re the desk of one of the menswear designers @ jcrew a few months back. HTH. Also hope to hear from you again soon. Always great to hear new viewpoints.

    Happy shopping everyone,

    Heather:D

  21. As much as I would like to jump off my wallet with some new Crew, nothing is really moving me. I've been eying up the 10" broken-in chino short with fish bones; but I'm not too sure if they are cheesey or not.

With my short collection currently sitting at 10 pair not too sure I can justify them. Looks like I'll wait for, dare I say it, fall?

  22. Thanks for the pictures, it's fun to have the sneak peek. Nothing I need or covet. I'm like many here, more interested in fall/winter gear. Today my dewdrop cardi should get here, I'd jack up the AC and dance around in it but that's just silly. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it is cute as it's pictured. I've wanted it for awhile and figure it it's more of a classic, rather than trendy piece. Just hoping it fits, it does look a tad shrunken on the model.

  24. All - I stopped in the 17th & 5th b&m (in NY), and they have the blue alligator print pencil skirt! So cute! This item is being offered in b&m's only, so grab it while you can. They were out of my size, so they are doing an item search for me.

  25. Does anyone know what happens if you order a few items using the 20% off code, but then decide to return 1 item? Do you lose the 20% on every item? I want to buy a few things but there is one item I'm not sure about, so I wondered what would happen if I used the code and then ended up having to return it... any insight is welcome!!

  26. I ended up buying the alligator skirt. I wasn't sure at first, but figured I should get it before it sold out. It is very cute. For those of you who have the July catalog, that print is in everything - shorts, bikini, skirt...unfortunately, it didn't list an item number for any of them. Strange...

  27. I also saw the shorts at the 17th & 5th b&m, but they were pricey at I believe $95 or so.... the skirt is $138. Luckily they were able to locate my size, so I should be getting it in a few days! For those interested, the style # of the skirt is 14810.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Kate - no, you do not lose the 20% off every item.... Any items you return will be processed at the price you paid after the 20% coupon, and the items you keep are not adjusted in any way. HTH!

  29. Ladies, the Pansy jacquard pencil skirt is available online in size 8, on sale for $99.99!! I wore it yesterday, so darling!

  30. Can someone please comment on how Theory clothing compares to JCrew size-wise? If I tend to wear a 0/XS in most JCrew items, how does that translate to Theory dresses? Thank you!

  31. Thank you Marietta - that's a huge help!

  32. Has anyone noticed that J. Crew changed the cut of their chino shorts this year? I've purchased multiple pairs over the last couple years, and I bought (what I thought were) the same ones this year, only to find that the cut is all wrong! I nearly cried - I loved those shorts. Time to search for the perfect shorts somewhere else.
