J.Crew Email: Special savings for summer

"Thanks!" to Soon to be PhD who shared with us an email that J.Crew sent yesterday. J.Crew is letting us know that their factory stores will be carrying new summer arrivals as well.

Happy {pre-summer} shopping!

  1. I just noticed on J.Crew's website that they are offering an extra 20% spring sale, with code EXTRA20!

  3. I hope spring ends soon. My allergies are killing me.

  4. Haha - I don't know why I'm ever naive enough to believe that I will be the first to report on JCrew happenings...Extra 20% off but no final sale. Yay. Almost makes for a semi-even playing field for those who didn't get the red card for about 48 hours.

  5. Can I combine free shipping and extra20?

  6. J - No combining. J Crew is functioning in an alternate universe when it comes to shipping charges.

  7. I just sent them an email complaining... it's already ridiculously high to shop in CA, let alone having to pay for shipping!
Check out my taxes on this order:

    total $563.01
    gift options $0.00
    subtotal $563.01
    promotions $(140.80)
    shipping $18.50
    tax $56.70
    total charge $638.21

  8. J,
If you are buying that much shipping doesn't seem too bad and Chicago has high taxes as well. So is life....if I really want the stuff I just bite the bullet and don't think about it too much.

  9. Depending on how much you order free shipping is better b/c if you return items then you are not out money. I tend to prefer free shipping on items I am unsure of.....

  10. 20% is basically covering shipping, that's how I look at it.

I ordered white matchstick jeans, my only JC purchase all month, to go w my new Tory Burch tunic. The tunic was a splurge, but I was CRAVING something colorful, not ruffled, and not frayed!!!!!

  11. j- wow $56 in tax?! im sorry you have to deal with that!

  12. J- why are you complaining? You can buy anything in San Diego and have to pay that percentage in sales tax. Of course, the more you buy, the more you pay. Here's a way to scale back on paying sales tax...don't buy as much, big spender!

  13. Taxes are an unfortunate part of life. :(

Just be glad you don't live in Canada. Here are my order details:

    MERCHANDISE TOTAL $351.94
    GIFT OPTIONS $0.00
    SUBTOTAL $351.94
    SHIPPING & HANDLING $23.50
    TAX $88.73
    TOTAL AMOUNT $464.17

    Feel better?

  14. Yikes! Those taxes are a killer! I ma a big spender, but I also am a hardworking American... you should see me complain about the taxes I pay to Uncle Sam... in the thousands! Have a good day everybody.

  15. Wow, I'm so glad I live in Oregon (no sales tax)!!!

  16. I live in Alberta, Canada and we don't have sales tax here either. The tax is J.Crew adding duty and customs fees (brokerage) to the order. It used to be a lot less and J.Crew increased the rates shortly after the new year. There was no change to the Canadian duty rate so I suspect it was an increase in brokerage fees by J.Crew and/or UPS.

It's ridiculous, really. When you factor in the 20% exchange rate the clothes become awfully expensive. Good thing they're so darn cute!

  17. Hey, don't cry to us if your exchange rate sucks. I remember going up to Canada when the dollar to the CAD was 1:1...you guys were copping attitudes left AND right.

  18. Hey fellow Canadians,

A way to save on taxes is to have your items shipped to a freight forwarder (usually $2.50 for a package) and go across the border and pick it up. If you live near a border, this is quicker and cheaper than having the items shipped to Canada. Further, the duty you pay when crossing is less than that calculated by JCrew.
