J.Crew Email: New arrivals. Just in time for warm weather. In stores and online.

J.Crew sent an email today letting us know that new arrivals have made it online and in their stores. The email design looks great- I love seeing all the outfits! :)

I am also happy to get this email! Especially since I have not been getting a lot of their previous ones. ;)

Did you get this email? Have you been getting J.Crew's email (or have you been getting some, but not others, like me)?

  1. I'm with you, Alexis... I get some, but not others. And I definitely did not get this one! Luckily I have your wonderful blog to keep me up to date :)

  2. What is with the exposed zippers as a feature?! They look extremely cheap. I was considering the mica mini but when I saw the back view - no way!

  3. New update.... The final sale sign has been replaced with spring sale!

    ReplyDelete
  4. I do not like the font in the "spring just got a little..." copy. It's so late 70s/early 80s. ::shudder::

  5. Em: It's comforting to know I am not the only one! ;)

Anon at 10:38: Thanks for letting me know that J.Crew has changed the "final sale" back to no final sale. This is great news!!! I have also gone ahead and updated the "final sale" post. :)

  6. No email for me either. And still no catalog, although I have email CS about 3 times now asking to be put on the list. Each time they tell me they've done so, and I have yet to receive one....anyone else experiencing catalog frustration?

  7. oops, *emailed*, not *email*

(the English teacher in me couldn't let that go...)

  8. I just got this email as of one minute ago. It may still be on the way to many of you.

  9. Get some, not all, wierd, very inconsistent, or, in JC case, the usual. Glad they changed from final to spring.

  10. I've been receiving JCrew's emails but have not received this one yet today.

  11. Anon 10:38am--

Yeah, I also saw the final sale first thing this morning and then when I checked back just now it was back to the spring sale. Anyone else notice this? What's going on?

    ReplyDelete
  12. I haven't received any e-mails yet, but I checked this morning to see if the new arrivals were out. I think it's a big yawn overall. I just don't see myself wearing a lot of those ruffle shirts more than one season. I do like some of the cotton dresses though but last year some of them were too narrow for me, I guess the A line wasn't wide enough for my hips. I'll be interested in hearing how they fit on other JCAs.

  13. Ok, nevermind. I see a whole separate blog post devoted to this. Alexis is always on top of these things! :)

  14. Exposed zippers were a "trend" on the runways - can't remember if it was last fall (so for this spring) or this spring (so for this fall).

  15. I got the email and visited the updated site this morning. They have quite a few cute new things in. Some of them actually are really different looking than what J.Crew has offered in the past, but some of it was VERY reminiscent of what is already out on the floor...

  16. I manage to get all the emails, I just don't get them all at the same email address. I would prefer they go to my personal email address that is linked to my J. Crew credit card but sometimes they go to my edu email. I have to check both email addresses if I want to see every email promo that J. Crew sends out. I notice that J. Crew seems to prefer my edu email address.

Can't get a catalog to save my life. I have called over 2 dozen times and I finally gave up. I even talked to their marketing department.

  17. Questionable new arrival: Silk Tafetta Trench Coat. Can it be rained on? Isn't that the purpose of a trench coat? I don't get it!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I seem to get all the emails and catalogs.

For those who cannot get a catalog, can you ask CS to send you one as a specific action? Not to just add you to the list but actually send one out to you in the mail personally. One of my friends asked for that last year and it came in a plain brown envelope. We had a little chuckle about that. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  19. I checked out that silk trench as well. It looks nice in the catalog but it is not really practical. If it were short I might consider purchasing it as a trench-styled short jacket but as an actual trench, I don't think so.

  20. JTS thanks for sharing the trend of exposed zippers. It really had me scratching my head. Another good example of why one should avoid trends, especially ones that are not adding something positive. It will look dated fast.

  21. I have 2 email accounts where I get I J.Crew mail. The past month I have not been receiving any mail from JC at the one that is linked to my shopping account, but my "spam" account has. Interesting...They definitely try to lure customers, but I wouldn't even know about these sales if it wasn't for this blog!! I guess they figure I am already shopping with them, so why bother emailing me.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I have only started receiving emails from J Crew when I cut down my spending.

They have stopped sending me the catalogs since I always order on-line, and not from the cataloq.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Alexis,I too have been spottingly getting the emails but also when I do get them it seems to be late in the day. I used to get them very bright and early in the morning.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I get the emails, but late in the day. I come here 1st to get J'Crnews. This is the quickest way to be in the know.

  25. Can anyone comment on the fit of the solid silk garland camisole? Any help would be appreciated. I do have CS measurements but no store near me.
    Thank you.

  26. AppGal, I didn't receive the last catalog and I used to receive them. I called CS to let them know (I was especially upset because it was the one with the $25 off coupon) and asked to mail me another one with the coupon. The CSA said that she had put the request in but still nothing!!! Not sure what's going on, but you are not alone ...

  27. I just got this email. Some days I get mine early, some not at all, some super late. Hmmm...

Anywho, I'm excited for new arrivals, even though I'm not buying anything for a bit. ;) I just made a purchase this morning!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I just ordered the Double serge cotton pencil skirt in dark slate and the Cotton-silk ruffle swirl tank in light pewter. I liked several other items, but figured these two may sell out in my size, and I kept picturing some of the others in the sale section! And I too feel like it is more of what I already have.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I ordered the cotton-silk ruffle swirl tank in Warm Blush. Can't wait to see it IRL

  30. I have to say, as a long time purchaser and defender of the J. Crew jewelry collection, that they have finally gone too far. I find most of this jewelry collection hideously ugly and unwearble, and that is a fan speaking. I can not imagine the field day that long time jewelry detractors will have with the latest releases. What a disappointment.
On a positive note, I really like the ombre straw hat. I am a redhead, so wear hats in the summer. I am also looking forward to the Collection Linen Sweater Jacket coming in July.

    ReplyDelete
  31. NOT a fan of the new arrivals. Colors look so washed out. I do like the simple cotton cardigans, but am sure they are paper thin and will rip easily.

Final Sale is back on the sale section - not spring sale.

    ReplyDelete
  32. ^ I still have spring sale showing, not final sale.

    ReplyDelete
  33. 2:19 I have purchased a few summer hats from J.Crew in the past and have always found them to be worth the money. Nicely made and hold up well.

  34. I received an email this morning offering 15% off an in-store purchase at stores in Kentucky in honor of The Kentucky Derby, which is the first Saturday in May!! The 25% off red card is obviously better, but I thought that was kind of cool of J.Crew to recognize such a huge event in our area! (I'm from Louisville ;) I'm posting it on my blog for my friends who live in KY and don't have a red card!

  35. Alexis - Because I would love to hear differing opinions on two items, may I suggest questionable items of the week: crystal bow-tie necklace and trevi shell. I personally dislike both of these items. However, I love to hear different opinions and often come awy with a new appreciation for an item, even if I never quite come around to liking it.

    ReplyDelete
  36. FYI, the J. Crew in New Haven, CT is offering 16.38% off of all purchases for restaurant week (April 19th-24th). I just found out today on www.infonewhaven.com. There's still 2 more days to use it! (I haven't tried it myself).

  37. re: the crystal bow-tie necklace. did anyone else have those "crystals" on their pony tail holders as a child? it looks like something from the wilma flintstone collection.

  39. Speaking of not getting emails, I know this is OT, but "Snow" mentioned yesterday in a comment that there is a 30% off secret BR sale starting tomorrow and I didn't get that email! I went to my BR today and there are a couple things I'd like to have ... I'd really love it if someone could forward that email to me if possible! I'm a card holder, so I'm not sure why I didn't get it... yet! TIA

  40. Now the website is saying final sale for me. I hope it's not back!

  41. I think I get most/all of the emails. Mine usually come in the mornings and I'm on the west coast.

I also just checked online and refreshed my browser twice and it still says "Spring Sale".

And Ginny @ 1:28PM: Personally, I think the garland cami runs TTS if you're a B/C cup. But full C/D cup, I'd size size up and A cup size probably size down unless you want it to be more roomy/flowly.

  44. i get the emails usually, but the catalogs -- it's as though a giant black hole gobbled up all my j crew catalogs. i used to get every j crew catalog, and frequently multiple copies of each! for several months now, even as far as a year perhaps, nothing. not even one. i've called and requested them, but no it's made no difference. i figure, it's just as well, cos it gets me to buy less!

besides after a while, who has the time and energy to unravel jcrew's mysterious/inconsistent marketing techniques? *sigh*

The hair things...as a child of the 70's with waist length hair and 2 sisters with the same, I remember them well. our endearing term for them was "balls". "Hey Cath, have you seen my balls?" My daughter doesn't know what she's missing.

  46. I was in our store today to order a few things off the red phone from the new catalog. I have been waitlisted (right term?) for the men's vintage chambray shirt for three months and I noticed they are now selling one for women (selvedge chambray shirt). Online they are selling for $98 but in the catalog they are $88 and the SA honored the $88 price in the catalog. The store manager also honored the red card to buy the new Isabel dress from another store.

I also wanted to mention that I ordered the Cristobel dress and it runs very small. I wear a 0 in J crew dresses and have quite a few suiting dresses and this was tight and very difficult to get on and off due to the zipper placement.

  47. I was hoping to see more skirts and cute shirts. Oh well. I am still in love with the BF Tissue Tee and now they have more colors!!

  48. I work in e-marketing, and sometimes my company doesn't email certain lists based on the cost of the emails. This technology can sometimes cost 5 cents a person. It's still frustrating not to receive the emails, but at least that's a suggestion for why some people don't receive them. If you're already buying, then it might not be worth the cost to ask you to continue, and rather target someone who hasn't made a purchase before. Just thought I'd throw that out there. :)

  49. Stacy - Thanks! It sounded too good to be true! ;)

  50. I think the garland cami runs very large. I normally take a 4 or even a 6 in JC tops, and a 2 fit well with plenty of room! HTH

  52. Swirl tank in size 0 warm shell is already down to the 20s in the inventory. Yikes.

  56. Hey everyone,

I just got a call from my local J. Crew (North Park Center, Dallas) and they invited me to a brunch tomorrow to celebrate the new in-store arrivals. The SA also reminded me to use my red card because it expires at the end of the month.

Have any of you received phone calls from your local store? This is the first time it's happened to me. Most of my purchases are online. Every once in awhile I'll get something at the mall. And they knew that I had a red card! I guess they are tracking us after all.

  57. Hi Linda,

I got an email from a personal shopper at a Boston area store inviting me to an spring preview event tomorrow night. I do not have a personal shopper and I live 2 hours from the store so I will not be going but I might have considered it if I lived closer.

I would imagine that the stores are being encouraged to be creative with their customer lists.

  59. Am I the only one who's NOT a fan of the swirl ruffle top? It reminds me of a clown suit...you know, when they have the 3 pom poms going down? Sorry, I know I'm weird..not a fan at all.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Anon @ 8:27, I am not a fan of the swirl cami either. Clown suit indeed. Even if it was just around the neckline, I'm done with the raw edge trim. I have one shirt with it, that's enough.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I also get some of the emails. I wonder how they decide who gets which emails?

    ReplyDelete
  62. How do you find out the numbers of items left in inventory??

    ReplyDelete
  63. Slightly OT: I went to the site and they have the most adorable drawings from kids of JC employees in celebration of Mother's Day. How these kiddos depict their moms are hilarious..."casmire (sic) sweater and ripped-up jeans", "seequin dress"...just too cute!

    ReplyDelete
  64. My PS also said she is 'putting together' and event, and asked about my availability. Do you get any discount at these things?

  65. Has anyone mentioned the Free Shipping on Crewcuts "units" through May 31st advertised at the top of the main page?

I did a mock check out with two Crewcut items and a woman's top. The shipping charges applied in line with the cost of the woman's top.

I did a mock check out with only Crewcut items and the shipping charges are zero.

Kudos to JCrew! Pretty fancy for them considering the past year...

  66. I just had a great experience at the Oakbrook IL store. The manager, Tim, allowed me to use my red card on new spring items that were not "in store" as of yet...he could not have been nicer:)

  67. 2nd the garland tank running large. I am usually a 2-4 in tops, and the 0 fits me perfectly. And I am a 34D. There's something wrong with that, lol..

    ReplyDelete
  68. Has anyone seen Harbor Oxford Capris in B&Ms?

    ReplyDelete
  69. Hi Kendra,

I have a question about your most recent post. I am not singling you out as I have frequently wondered this when I read what people post on this site. You say you are a 34D. If you are a 34D that means your bust measures 38 inches around (chest measurement of 29+5=34 +4=D =38). On the J. Crew size charts, a M/10 equates to a 37.5 inch bust and a L/12 equates to a 39 inch bust.

    A 2-4 size in tops corresponds to a 32.5 - 33.5 bust which would not wear a 34D.

As a D cup with a 38 inch bust myself, I don't understand how the people who post here that they wear D and DD bras could possibly fit into size 0, 2 and 4. It is not an issue of how thin one is, if that is the correct bra size, the bust must measure 38 inches.

    Just curious.

    ReplyDelete
  70. ^ I disagree. Posted measurements are never accurate. I'm a 36 or 38DD (depending on the brand of the bra) and I very comfortable fit into size M sweaters and tshirts. And no it's not just me thinking that i fit into them, I always ask SAs whether a shirt or sweater pulls to much or looks to small or big. Consider the tissue boyfriend Vneck. I bought this in a small. No way that's supposed to be for those who are 32.5 inches around.

    ReplyDelete
  71. To confuse you even more.

I am a 36 A and I wear a 6 or and 8 in most of JCrew tops. I even own a couple of 10's from a few summers ago. I probably have about 30 of their tops and cami's. I order a size 10 in the Liberty shirts.

    I couldn't fit into a 4 if I tried...no way!

    ReplyDelete
  72. I think the swirl ruffle top is not attractive either. I think it looks like it does strange things to the boob area. It is not flattering to me on the model. I would have to try it on but I don't even like the color choices...maybe white but I plenty of white tops.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I'm a 34C and I need a size 10 in J.Crew tops because of my boobs. Anything smaller will pull the buttons/fabric across the chest. I am almost always tailoring them to bring them in at the waist.

I don't buy it when people say they are a D cup and fitting into a 0, 2, or 4. Not likely. Especially in J.Crew, which is not designed for the busty woman.

    ReplyDelete
  74. All I can say is that all of the bras I own (from Gap and Aerie) are 34D's! And I've been fitted! I'm on the smaller side of the band size, but it's hard to find 32D's. Maybe the brands just run small!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Thanks everyone!

Yes, I am more confused than ever. :-)

I think the issue is the measurement around at the widest point of the chest, not so much the bra size which may or may not be correct.

And I know that a particular garment may vary from the size charts or that an individual may perfer a looser or closer fit.

It's just that I have a hard time imagining how someone who measures 38" at the widest point of the chest could fit into an XS, S, 0, 2 or 4 at J. Crew!

    ReplyDelete
  76. kendra... I, too, wear a 34D, and a 2/4/6 in JCrew tops, a 4 in most dresses, etc. I guess I'd throw out there that the cupsize of a 34D=36C=38B so that even though there is a "D" in there which makes it sound like we have huge boobs, I know I actually don't. Also it seems like they make bras so much smaller these days, it seems like. Same as all other vanity sizing, perhaps? Also, we all know how unreliable J.Crew's size chart is. Different items tend to have very different measurements.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Em,

Rather than your bra size, what is the measurement at the largest circumference of your chest? It is supposed to be 38 inches if you are a 34D - 29 inches around the chest and 38 inches around the bust.

A 36B is also 38 inches around at the bust and 31 inches around the chest.

    ReplyDelete
  78. @Anon 1:24 AM and others discussing bra sizes - a 34D is not 38" at the widest part (at least that is not what that means), it's 34".

This is not correct: "If you are a 34D that means your bust measures 38 inches around (chest measurement of 29+5=34 +4=D =38)."

34D means your bust measures 34" around, and under your bust is 25" (34" bust - 4" for D cup - 5" standard addition).

    ReplyDelete
  79. anon@10:35

Yes, I am with you. As I wear a 36 A I measure about 37 around the bust so that is why I wear a Jcrew 6 or 8 and could not fit into a 4.

  81. Good grief, they have extended vanity sizes to bras now too?

    ReplyDelete
  82. I'm with Em & anon @ 1:24am.
I wear a 36DD (since middle school) and in J Crew clothing, I have to wear a size 10 in the camis and a 12 when buttons are involved to avoid the ever-dreaded gaping. And, for bottoms, I usually wear a size 6. In JC tees, sweaters and cardigans I consistently almost always wear a medium. I agree about the J Crew sizes being inconsistent. I have the silk-linen sweater in medium that is noted to be "fitted" but I find runs a little bit large. The Elizabeth halter runs very large on me but I think that's meant to be flowly. The garland cami I found to be more fitted than the Elizabeth and the Victoria ruffle cami was perfect for me (no alterations needed) JC blouses are usually a problem for me since I have to take them in at the waist or size up to accomodate the girls. :I And, to me, Gap bras run small so I've had to return them and just stick to Wacoal, Chantelle and VS.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Hi Anon! Actually, I am only 34"-35" around the widest part of my chest. So, I don't know what's going on with that. I am a "small" D, if you ever look at a 34D bra you will see what I mean. Not very big. I swear they have expanded vanity sizing to bras, too. Not that I am thrilled about wearing a D cup because they seem harder to find.

Also, the garland cami just runs HUGE! Like the elizabeth halter. I have an XS in that. But in the hammered silk tank, for example, I needed a 6 to accommodate my chest. Which I knew to do, thanks to all the wonderful JCAs who offered their opinions on sizing on here. It's such a great resource!

    ReplyDelete
  84. JTS,

No, you have it backward - that is not how bra sizes are measured. You start with the chest measurement:

    Determine Band Size
    Wear a good-fitting, non-padded bra.
Wrap the measuring tape snugly around your rib cage, just under your bustline.
Select the Band Size according to your rib cage size as follows:

    Rib Cage Band Size
    27-28" 32
    29-30" 34
    31-32" 36
    33-36" 38
    37-40" 40
    41-42" 42
    43-44" 44
    45-46" 46
    47-48" 48
    49-50" 50

To confirm the Band Size, wrap the measuring tape snugly around your rib cage, just above your bustline and under your arms. This measurement should equal the Band Size.

    Determine Cup Size
    Wear a good-fitting, non-padded bra.
Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your bust, making sure the tape measure lies flat around your body.
The difference in inches between the Band Size and the bust measurement will determine the cup size:

    Bust Minus Band Cup Size
    0" AA
    1" A
    2" B
    3" C
    4" D
    5" DD
    6" DDD
    7" G

Therefore a 34D should measure about 38" around at the widest point as should a 36B.

Em, your chest measurement explains how you can fit into smaller J. Crew sizes so that makes a lot of sense - thanks! I look at 34D bras every day since that is my size, but I don't think they look small. I too have to wear more expensive, "highly engineered" bra brands to get the correct support. I can't wear sports bras sized S-M-L because they won't fit - I have to get ones that are sized by cup and band. And it is hard to get dresses or suits to fit since I am several sizes smaller on the bottom than I am on the top.

Where I often wear a M in sweaters/jackets/tops in other brands, I find I have to consistently wear a L/10/12 at J. Crew because I really feel they do not cut for a busty person.

Anyway, this was an interesting discussion about something that perplexed me reading this blog. Thanks for all the input.
