J.Crew Email: Sun, sand and free shipping (on our women's swim collection)

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta, as well as lleila (in this post), who let us know about J.Crew's recent promotion.

J.Crew is currently offering free shipping on all swimwear for women. {yey!} No code is needed as it will be automatically applied at checkout. {Like the good old days!} ;) This offer expires 2/24/09.

Are you going to take advantage of this offer? Have you already, if so please share! :)

  1. This really isn't a great offer. I have already purchased two suits during the % off promotions so I won't be taking advantage of this one.

  2. Another lame promo.

  3. You have to wonder how the sales have been like for J.Crew if this is the best they can offer. There have been terrific deals at other stores & online lately.

    I agree with poop. Lame.

  4. Gee thanks JCrew...you are far too generous. How much does it cost to ship a few triangles and some string anyway?

  5. Blah, another poor promo! The suits look almost identical to last year's suits (I mean, how creative can you get with swimsuits. Eventually they all start looking the same). And I just trudged through 4 new inches of snow this weekend - not really itching to run out and spend a ton of $$ on full price suits!

Compared to all promos that other stores have Jcrew's have been so sad.

  6. Anon @ 120 U R so right. Unfortunately, shipping is based on the price of the items so they must make a killing on shipping swimsuits without free shipping.

I must say I am pretty bored with J.Crew right now. Nothing exciting and no enticement to buy.

  7. I already added made a swimsuit purchase during the % off promotions recently. So no chance of using this one, especially if it expires tomorrow.

Agreed - another lamo promo from JCrew. But I suppose JCrew isn't hurting as much as other retailers that are offering better promotions. I haven't known a retailer to be generous by nature. ;)

  8. I can't believe there is no post yet about the Oscars! Hmmmm...could it be that all you J.Crew obsessive haters don't want to admit the plan to move the brand upscale IS WORKING?

You'd think so many of these so-called "fans" would be so happy for their fave brand.

  9. Sitting here looking out at the snow-covered landscape, knowing temperatures will drop down to zero tonight, I don't have an ounce of inspiration to even look at suits. Plus, I agree with others, only offering free ship is lame. Far better deals to be had elsewhere.

  10. J.crew's stock will show you the co. is not doing well.

  11. It could also be that abc is also playing to the situation of the economy right now. the public wants cheaper options and showing you that you can look fabulous in a jcrew gown which is a lot cheaper then a designer is good. they want people to view their show and network, and relating to people's problems does that. I don't think it had to do with jcrew going upscale, I think it has to do with everyone being conscious about their choices with money. It has to do with a bad economy.

  12. @2:04,

hmm, I liked the JCrew/RR/Oscar dress, but it isn't really any more 'upscale' than the long silk tricotine gowns they already make... the color and style are consistent with other JCrew special occasion dresses. I also agree that it was part of ABC making a conscious effort to showcase a dress at a lower price point.

As far as the danger of jcrew going too upscale, a $700 pink metallic leather coat or $500 snakeskin sandals could become excessive risks that potentially end up on a TJMaxx rack for $9.99, like the gold sequin tank I saw this weekend.

  13. Alright, I can't get to my local J. Crew for a while and I'm not sure if my curiousity can take it until Thursday.

Has anyone seen the new arivals that were going out today? Does anyone have any insight into what they might be. I NEED color in my wardrobe and the current selection is not helping me at all.

I would appreciate any thoughts or insight anyone might have. I've sold some items so I can afford to get myself a "must have" item. Now I need to find the "must have" item.

  14. Is there a new cat. out for March?

  15. I just ordered some swimwear using a different free ship code. When there are other free ship codes, this one doesn't mean a whole lot, especially when two full-price swimsuits (e.g., if you order two of the same suit in diff. sizes to compare...) are easily going to exceed the free ship minimum using other codes.

I am willing to buy JC items full price if I love them. Of course I love sales (who doesn't), but "lame promos" aren't going to keep me from shopping at JC. The thing I think is lamest that JC acts like is such a big deal is Final Sale. Come on! Who wants to buy stuff they can't return??

  16. J.Crew has always had some wonderful pieces and certainly dresses that were as Oscar-worthy as the dress worn by Robin. They are trying to take the brand upscale and I think the resistance is partly due to a concern that the brand may then raise their prices to a point where some of the fans can no longer afford to purchase. It's great to see them do well, but if you have to admire from a far it takes the bloom off the lily a bit.

  17. I just bought a swimsuit this morning, and the bottom will be arriving this week - however I'm on the waitlist for the top! That's not expected until 3.20.2009. How could they have sold out already?!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Nila - maybe there was a production issue that delayed the tops. Be sure to check the top and bottom to be positive there isn't any variation in color/pattern of the fabric. It's unlikely but it can happen if it is a separate manufacturing run. Usually not common with nylon but with dyed cotton, silk or linen sometimes items from different lots are a slightly different shade.

  19. I dont know what is it with jcrew trying to present free shipping code as the deal of the century. I wrote in anther thread about receiving a worn sweater with no tag and magnetic strip cut off. You would think they would feel bad for doing this and making me waste time by shipping stuff back. Instead they did me a huge favor and offered to pay for shipping back the sweater and also if I want another sweater it will ship for free.

I honestly was so PO'ed that I got all the non-final sale stuff with tags that I bought over the past few months and havent worn and I am returning ALL of it. The way they treat their customers (just think about it, sending a used sweater is plain unsanitary!) makes me think I will spend my money elsewhere. So the grand total for all my returns is over $400. There you go, jcrew.

  20. J.Crew is definitely not helping their upscale image by selling stuff at TJMaxx.

    ReplyDelete
  21. ^ good point. there seem to be quite a few of the cristobal shoes at TJM and they were very expensive originally, if I recall. I really wonder how well their sales are doing and why they don't offer a % off and free shipping promo like the holiday season. People bought tons of stuff if this blog is any indication. The number of positive posts and reviews has really declined over the past month.

  22. OT - for those who did not watch the show.

Not the most flattering facial expression, but the dress looks good on her. I like the way it is styled with the lavender clutch and the bracelets. And J.Crew gets a mention.

  23. Thanks for the link to Oscar photos. I can't be bothered to watch.

OMG what is up with SJP!!! Implants or some seriously gravity-defying
brassiere. I always thought she was very much against cosmetic surgery.

    ReplyDelete
  24. That's not implants, its just smoosh-age. Why would she go and stuff a bag of salt water in her chest wall?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Any time you can see the well-defined circular outline on the TOP of the breast, implants are present. Go ahead and smoosh yours up and see if you can make that same outline. Doesn't happen with real breasts no matter if you smoosh standing on your head. Real breasts form a much more gradual outline as the fat moves up into the high chest area. The implants don't redistribute like that because they can't. These photos seem telling. Not that she cares what anyone else thinks. Sorry, no hyperlinks.

  26. Anon at 3:43-how do you plan to return final sale items? Even if they are new, they don't allow returns on final sale items, especially so many. Just wondering because I tried to return one thing that was way too big, and they said I wasn't allowed and refused :X

    ReplyDelete
  27. I was at my bm today and they were putting out many new items. I'll try to remember as many as I can:

Darling tee, scoop neck with a ruffle as part of the scoop - white, navy, gray, and a couple of lighter colors - mint, salmon, maybe.
I bought this in white and would love to have it in many other colors. Great tee shirt, great fit.

Lots of new graphic tees. The two that caught my eye were beaded. Most of the new ones were not. One was a beaded pinkish shrimp on a cream background, and the other was an orange tee with a beaded beetle bug - I bought this one - too cute to pass up.

The cocktail jacket that's on line in the grayish pattern, is now available in white.

An army green jacket that I think was in the look book over the white ruffle skirt - I loved this jacket and did buy it. I didn't see it in any other color although if it's the one I'm thinking of, the look book showed it in gray.

Saw another new trench, with a permament ruffled collar in what appeared to be a light weight polished cotton. Very good looking, khaki color.

The gateau skirt. Love, love it in person. Didn't have time to try it on. This was interesting to me because I was going to order the fresh orange so I went to take a look at this since the store had this color, or so I thought. On line it looks like a true orange. In the store, it was definitely between an orange and a brighter pink. Unless this was a color for retail only and not online, just beware that's it's more of a pinkie orange. Nonetheless, a gorgeous color.

Linen-ish pants with a tie waist.
Cute cotton dress with a ruffle v neck collar.
Sleeveless linen top that had petals down the front in creme and white.

Overall, I felt like there were many new things, and bursts of color. I just didn't have the time to really look and try on.
Word is that new items go up on-line on Thursday. My store did not have the new catalog.

  28. um, yeah, OF COURSE SJP has implants, and I doubt it's because she had a mastectomy for cancer, either. she can be all "against cosmetic surgery" and get her boobs fixed, but she just doesn't get her nose fixed. oh well, I love her anyway :P

    ReplyDelete
  29. She DID get her nose fixed--go back and look at old pics of her. She had a much wider bridge.

There are VERY few virgin noses in Hollywood, as much as they want you to think it's all natural. Even Natalie Portman had a huge hawk honker before her nose job.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Type SJP in google and click on images. The first one is from Make Me Heal, and shows her with much wider nostrils and a bulbous wide tip. She had a natural looking result, but the changes are dramatic.

    ReplyDelete
  31. What did y'all think of the dress and hair on SJP? I like her, but I've seen her look better. And I always liked that she seemed real, even if she did have a nose job. I have always wanted a nose job myself, even though I'm told there is nothing wrong with my nose. I would just like a cuter one. Not enough to actually do it though....

  32. Did anyone else dislike Kate Winslet's dress? I thought she looked very matronly and I didn't think it was flattering at all. Everyone I talk to seems to love it! Oh well, shows what I know...

  34. I loved the design of Kate Winslet's dress but I do believe it was not the most flattering she's worn.

  35. lleila, I wrote that i plan on sending all NON-final sale murch back. I had some full priced items and some sale items that weren't marked final sale. This experience simply soured my relationship with jcrew. I did place an order at BR for a cute dress and bracelet... 20% off plus 10% off plus free ship. Whats not to love?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Nose jobs I can tolerate. Boob jobs are horrid. I don't know why people think those yucky 'orange halves' look good. They look silly and fake.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Sorry to be totally OT, but can anyone comment on the width of the metallic Claudias? I tried the Alessia heels recently and they seemed too narrow and don't want to start another cycle of purchase-return-eat shipping. Thanks so much!

  38. Blatantly off topic:

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Cashmere Alton Henley?

    ReplyDelete
  39. No thanks J Crew. Not even free shipping is going to make me buy a full price swim suit from you when I know the one I currently have I bought for $9.99 each piece - 30%....I will just have patience and wait til they get cheaper...

    ReplyDelete
  40. Stupid promo (or maybe stupid me for how I used it). I bought the watercolor bandeau (on backorder), ring bottoms and another suit. Then I stupidly threw in a $29.99 final sale cardigan... that obliterated the "free shipping" deal and I had to pay $8.50. I buy so much stuff from jcrew- its so annoying not to get a REAL discount code every now and then! That's the one reason I will never leave BReps- they have great codes!
