Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to take advantage of the post holiday sales, the additional 20%-30 off sales, or to see some new January/ Resort arrivals in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic! Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

P.S.S. Happy New Year Everyone! :)

  1. Good Morning Alexis and Everyone! Happy New Year to all of you! I actually visited my J.Crew in Orlando yesterday and found some fabulous deals, such as the Vita Cami, Boucle' Astrid in Charcoal, and Rectangular Gold-Link Bracelet. The store also had plenty of bootcut and matchstick cords, quinn camis, velvet ecoles in rhubarb, tons of perfect-fit flower tanks, a pair of Dark Poppy Juliets size 8, a Charcoal Boucle' Astrid Jacket size 8, a long Sea Glass gown...I think it was size 8. All sale merchandise was 30% off and Final.

Hope you all have a fantastic New Year's Day!!! :)

  2. Can anyone comment on the tweed stormy lille coat? I am hesitate due to the metallic thread. Is it too flashy for regular day wear? Thanks!

  3. Happy New Year everyone!

Well the New Year is not even a day old and I have already broke my News years resolution to order less from J Crew. I ordered a tote bag bright and early this am.

  4. Good Morning FFM - I figured you'd be up and at em already!!! Happy New Year to all! I'm hoping to visit my BM today - having a little BM JC withdrawal.
The order I placed Tuesday has shipped already and only the aubrey is marked as final sale. Hmmmm.

  5. Happy New Year's Day to everyone too!

FFM: Congrats on those deals! I think the boucle astrid is very pretty. :)

Casual-Crew: too funny about already breaking your New Year's resolution! :) But I can't blame you! ;)

  6. ladolcevita: LOL! I know exactly what you meant about those J.Crew B&M withdrawals- I get them too! ;)

  8. Happy Crew Year, all! Yesterday at the somerset Collection in Michigan, there were a few pairs of the spectator peep toe mary janes in grey, two 7s and an 8 I think. Sale was 30% off. They had a room full of sale but it was more of the same old.

  9. I turned on my computer hoping for some fantastic Jcrew New Year promotions, but sadly, nothing. Everyone else is practically giving their merchandise away! What is Jcrew holding out for?? Torture!

    Happy New Year everyone!

  11. Happy New Year everyone! I have been reading this blog for a few months now, sometimes several times day. I love it! So now Iam ready to start posting.
First of all, I would love to know if anyone has the large Oslo bag? Or anyone's thoughts on it, if you've seen it irl.
I love the new colors jcrew has come out with. Iam so glad to see some softer colors for a change. Does anyone have the Cloud necklace? I was wondering if it is as pretty irl, or is it just too big? What colors or outfits would it look pretty with? I think it looks pretty online. Thank you for your help!

  12. Good morning all and Happy New Year!!

No BM shopping for me since my closest store is in Santa Fe, an hour away (I'm too lazy to drive!). I'm moving at the end of the school year to Northern NJ, just outside of NYC (Bergen county). I'm going to be in JC heaven. My DH is already there working and I have him visiting various JC's to report back on their inventory/size/SA's ect. He thinks I've lost it at this point! LOL!!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Em: I have the cloud necklace and love it! Actually, I'm a sucker for statement necklaces and own several of JC's from the last two seasons. It looks great with grey, melon, rhubarb, bright fushia, ivory, and all the greens.

I don't own the Oslo, nor have I seen it IRL, however, there was an earlier posting that many JCA's don't really care for it. It is unlined and large, so it gets a little floppy. HTH!

  14. Does anyone have any feedback on the Jamie bag? I may bite the bullet and want to make sure it's worth it. I like the new editor bag, but I know the resin chain is just for looks...it would probably break if I used it as a strap since I lug so much junk around. Let me know if anyone has any feedback. I know there were some reviews earlier in the season. TIA!

  15. I was at KOP yesterday and they have mostly new merchandise. I did see that they had several snow leopard shirt dresses and some white Victoria long sleeve shirts (I think people were looking for those?). I noticed that the Ingrid heels which are new - $235 on the site - were on sale for $189.99 plus 30%. Also full priced suiting was 40% off. Other than that, nothing new to report.

Has anyone seen the champagne dupioni skirt in stores? I'd prefer to get it with the extra 30%.

  16. Good Morning All and Happy Happy New Year! This one should be a steady rewarding year according to a Chinese calendar! So looking forward to quiet and peace!

  17. FabulousFloridaMommy:
A perfect way to start New Year- congrats on your purchases! I went to store yesterday to return some things, took my son and we could not shop for long, so I just got 2 more Candy tees on your recommendation- Pink Licorice one and Cerise.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Leslie: Good Morning! It looks like the chain on the Editor bag is probably removable, and if so, then the bag is definitely on my wishlist. :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Has anyone seen Tartine cardigans in their store sale sections anymore? I'm looking for XS in light pewter and/or snow.

I have returns again so I may pop into my store this weekend. The sale section was pretty small last Sunday. I was happy to see some of the new spring items. I'm really liking some of the new camis, particularly the prints.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Classic Style: What store were you in? I'm searching for the Victoria Ruffle :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Good Morning Ladolcevita! You're right...this morning was no different for me than any other morning...I was up very early, as usual. I don't think it's possible to sleep in with *littles* in the house. ;)

Alexis and Slastena: Thank you! I'm really pleased with my purchases, and the prices I paid, too. :)

Slastena: Congratulations on the Candy Tees! Both those colors will look fabulous on you! :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. FFM, what color did you get in the Vita Cami? I bought the navy at my store last week and I love it!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I have not ordered anything on final sale and plan to wait it out....the only thing that might temp me would be 40% off and free shipping like in the good ole days...

I am not into buying multiples of items I already own esp. blazers/jackets because the style of them changes so rapidly. There is always new stuff out that I want...

    ReplyDelete
  24. Desert Flower: I got the Vita Cami in the Silver...I saw the Navy IRL the week before, but it wasn't my size. I think both colors of it are really pretty. :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. I agree with Anony@10:42. Here's my tip: If I don't "waste" my money on candy tees or whatever...say...3 Maggie jackets...I can buy full priced items I really want when they first come out in the catalog and not have to worry about sales/selling out of items...I started doing this about a year ago and it really works...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anon a@ 9:42 a.m.

I received the Large Oslo in grey as a Christmas gift, and I am very torn about whether to keep it. It is very large and once the paper stuffing is removed, it looses its satchel shape. I love the color, however. And I think the leather is very nice. I wish I would have ordered the smaller version when it was available.

Like Leslie, I love the cloud necklace. The color works like a neutral. You will be able to pair it many different things. Though I loved the necklace, I did not keep it because I had trouble with how the bottom part of the necklace hit my chest. But I think the problem was me, not the necklace.

  27. I meant to say: every color of the candy tees...

  28. happy new year!

i called the KOP store looking for the snow-leopard shirtdress but they didn't have my size but they do have 2,4,6,8 in case anyone is looking! does anyone have this? i'm contemplating 2 but i'm thinking since its generous fit it might be a bit too big.

i too am looking for the silk dupioni skirts but it seems like that are catalog only =( if anyone sees them a tip would be great!

im going to go to the northshore, ma store and will report back=)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Quick Question: Am I able to order items on the website through the red phone in stores? And if so, would I be able to use the current 30% off promotion as well? I'm so tempted to get a few items online but would rather run to my local b&m than pay high shipping costs.

Also I went to the Whitehall, PA store yesterday and they had a striped Victoria blouse in a sz. 0 for anyone who's interested.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Happy New Year all! I have the victoria cami in navy and fuschia ~ love them both; saw the silver and light pink, and coral in BM, pretty. The Walnut Creek BM had lots of sale stuff, but nothing new. I'm going tomorrow to see if any returns are good, will report back. I think I am shopped out.

  34. Happy New Year Full of Possibilities to all!

Just completed my annual ritual, precedent to buying more clothes: THE PURGE. Why is this needed? Space. Balance. Redistribution of wealth, perhaps. Why is this painful? Because MY purges involve acknowledging fashion MISTAKES. Changes in taste. Tags still on items. Items worn once. Items that were $$$$. Doesn't really fit my style/age/body.

The dismal economy actually helps--my local San Francisco Goodwill really needs this and I imagine several women finding treasures. Having purged big time, I went back to FS and found, to my amazement, the charcoal berry astrid I'd already ordered/then order cancelled twice by JCrew, my favorite yellow flats, and the astrid metallic herringbone (order cancelled once by JCrew). NEW STRATEGY: When I really really want it--scarcity drives me. I have now found (it's how I got the cascading flowers black astrid last week) that ordering OVERNIGHT gets it to me the next day and I think I get buped up. Otherwise, I linger on the pending sales for days, then get a cancel.

Going back for one more purge, this time "Colors I no longer wear that go with nothing I now have." Then, instead of B&M, to Goodwill drop-off.

Happy JCrewing to all for 2009!
Showers of confetti and rose petals at you.

    ReplyDelete
  36. ^Awww--that's so awesome. What a great surprise! This is a timeless, unique and wonderful piece that you will have for many years IMO. I haven't worn mine yet but I also don't feel I can part with it either.

  37. OT but do you think they will re-release the Victoria camis in the new spring colors like they did the Elizabeth cami a few seasons back? It would be so pretty in the light pink and silver colors. Wish we could have some say-so in what they put out each season! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  38. Would love a report back or even better place them HOLD: Juliet Safari/Serengeti mid heel sz 8-1/2 or 9 and Juliet Heel in Black 8-1/2 these are my two long standing wishlist items. Also-storybook charm bracelet-if anyone sees these please put on hold and report back;) TIA!

  39. Anon 12:08-did you get that idea from the anon poster that mentioned seeing them in these colors? LOL! I thought the same thing but they are not out in these colors--that might be the Cherie?? Would be gorgeous in those soft shades, wouldn't it?!

  40. Professor: I also did the "BIG PURGE" yesterday and promptly ran 3 huge garbage bags filled to the brim to Goodwill in order to get my receipt for 2008! There were some awesome treasures in those bags and I hope that someone who can really use them will grab them up and a great price. I really tried to keep only the things that I will wear frequently....it was getting to be a bit overwhelming in there and I wasn't even wearing my new stuff! I'm truly addicted....I'm beginning to think that "JCA" stands for J.Crew Anonymous instead of J.Crew Aficionadas.

  41. I wore my cascading flowers astrid in ivory last night - for the first time - with jeans. I love that jacket. Even if I only wear it a few times a season, it's timeless. Congratulations - it's a wonderful gift.

  42. Professor,

Your post made me laugh! The scarcity of an item makes me want it more as well. Great insight about the 1 day shipping to try to ensure you get it, thanks for sharing!

Good luck with the purging. I understand your pain. It IS a reminder of poor choices, however it makes more room for better future choices! Ha!

    Thanks,

  55. Anon at 12:49: Yes, Goodwill and most other non-profits will give you a receipt that you can use on your taxes. I save mine in a file all year and pull it out during tax season. Today's donations will give you a receipt to use next tax season (April 2010). That's why I loaded up the kiddos and hauled those bags down there yesterday, so that my receipt would be dated 12/31/08.

I think they are releasing the Victoria cami in spring colors. I was at the B&M in Nashville yesterday, and they had a new section with Victoria cami's in a light silver color, and a few other new spring colors. How could they not re-release it, it was a best-seller!

  57. A few things--

one, I placed an order of $150 at Jcrew.com and nothing came marked final sale (usually says so on the receipt. interesting.)

also stopped by Friendship Heights, DC B&M this monring to do a return. couldn't buy anything b/c I am on a shopping ban for January, but they had a Madeline dress in sz 4, black, $150 minus 30% off all sale items. TONS of high heel flares marked down to 29.99, candy tees 19.99, lots of cords, tissue t-necks (dont remember sizes/colors). again, all sale is 30% off so the high heel flares are only 20-something dollars. was so tempted to try on but I am trying to stay on my ban for the whole month!

    hth!

  58. Just did a bunch of returns at the Cambridge store. So sad that my orders just weren't up to par. Its amazing how some colors on your computer are truly different than the colors on the items when you get them or see them IRL. My citron wool hoodie looked pea green.. yeah, NOT yellow or citron for that matter. My dream tie neck cardigan had some knitting poking out of the shoulder.. what kind of quality is that?! And my pullover hoodie had a black stain on it. Yeah, disappointed! Luckily I bought that all before the final sale so i got my money back.

BEWARE for you buying final sale.. the quality may not be worth the bargain.

On the plus side, I finally found a metallic belt in a small. YAY! $14 is a lot better than that $38 they're charging online.

Am I going anywhere? No. Company coming? No. However, as with former men in my life, I'm currently in love with the CF black Astrid and letting it soothe me during my horrid task of finishing 2 book chapters, due 2 days ago. [It works.] This jacket is beautifully lined in silky material, so anything works with it. [I also have a black short-sleeved tight-fitting T-shirt advertising a box of Crayola Crayons that loves this jacket.]

  65. Anon @ 9:42:

I had been coveting and stalking the small Oslo on the Internet for about a month. I finally found 3(!!) of them in the Santa Monica, California that had been returned and now I know why. On closer inspection, the leather is beautiful and soft. However, it has absolutely no structure. The other downside was that the horn closure is extremely heavy. And the closure mechanism is extremely awkward. So, it takes 2 hands to close the bag and it wasn't easy - it took a lot of effort. If you are on the run and can't sit down to work on reconfiguring your purse closure, I think it will be a pain.

Everything was ordered online and a lot of the times were popping up and then sold out again so I was skeptical. Everything in the right size and no flaws, stains or signs of wear. I have placed a dozen orders since TURKEY, usually 4 or less items per order so maybe it's easier to manage the smaller orders.

  70. I was just at the N. Michigan store on Tuesday. It is really picked over. They do have ALOT of matchstick cords and coats. Nothing too spectacular. However, they have spectator pumps in dusty rose on sale. Most of the store is their new stuff.

  71. Small Oslo bag:

I have the small Oslo bag and I love it. I can easily open and close the clasp with one hand. The bag is open on the top and the side pockets are also open so you can get most items without opening if the closure gives you trouble. Or just throw the strap over the top and the weight will keep it in place.

The leather is thick yet soft and the unstructured design gives it the slouchy look, which may be too much on the larger version but it is cute on the smaller version. It can easily be filled to give it a firmer shape as it is a smaller bag. I love the Borge Garveri leather and I totally love this bag. The champagne color will transition nicely with the new spring palette as well.

I am debating whether or not to go to a couple of B&Ms today. I do want to see what other colors they have for the Victoria Cami. I have the fuschia, navy, ivory and black. And I saw the salmon color and couldn't help it and got it. Not sure if I'll get the light grey but if there is a pink one, I'll get that.

  79. Happy New Year, everyone! Professor - I, too, also purged my closet and dropped off 5 huge bags to Goodwill before Christmas. It was a somewhat painful process, as it reminded me of past mistakes with fashion and a lot of $$$$ spent and wasted on items that barely saw the light of day. But, on the brighter side I hope that those truly in need will benefit.... and that going forward I will only purchase and KEEP items that I truly, truly love and will actually wear with happiness!

  80. Marietta,

Sometimes I engage in Magical Thinking, even though I'm a social scientist. Clothing and romance are consistently two of those times. [For better or worse, she noted to herself.]

The Great Purge of Purchasing Mistakes is like this, Magical-Thinking Style:
"Oh, what a horrid mistake, what was I thinking?"
"Worse, I cannot be trusted with a purchase, a check book, a credit card!"
"I have NO sense of style--I buy things that would never work!"

    THEN, magical thinking =
"But wait! I clearly had enough disposable income to be able to buy these Mistakes. Perhaps I was supposed to buy them for Someone Else, who could never afford it and who desperately needs to find a treasure. It will renew her faith, in the midst of her tedious search through piles of thrift store junk."

I imagine her completely -- and her joy. [Which is undoubtedly why I never consider selling Mistakes or going on eBay. Someone, to my way of thinking, has to REALLY benefit from my errors so I have the grace to move forward . . .]

I absorb enormous energy being surrounded by things I truly love. I am enriched when my mistakes benefit a stranger in my own mind [which is why I no longer attempt to inflict Purchasing Mistakes on my sister, friends, or nieces, however $$$ or lovely they were.]

    ** Shopper 555:
    You are too funny.
But it does bring up "sizes." Yee gads, it took a while to realize JCrew does it differently. I'm a thin 5'5" woman. In the Not-Jcrew-World, size 10. In JCrew I'm a size 8 blouse, size 8 skirt, size 10 Astrid, size 12 Ecole (and it isn't baggy at 12), size 8 shoe.

To all my delightfully lovely smaller-sized JCrewers, I don't even KNOW anyone who's a size 0, except here. WAIT--I must take that back; they are undoubtedly all sitting in my undergraduate classrooms. Next week, first classes I'll notice . . .

  81. Professor,

If only I lived near your trash because, to me, it would surely be treasure - and we wear the same size.

I went to the Prime Outlet Mall in Jeffersonville, Ohio today and was sorely disappointed with the selection at J Crew. I have been finding so many wonderful $19.99 & 29.99 sweaters at jcrew.com (at 6-7:30 AM when they restock) that I am now spoiled. I saw little of interest, and what I saw didn't seem to be priced to sell.

However, Kate Spade was running a 50% off everything sale. Alas, I have a Marc by Marc Jacobs bag that, after years of searching for "the one", has spoiled me for all others.

  88. Hi JCAs and Happy New Year!
Before I do my returns, thought I would post here: Juliet midheels, size 8, in black and driftwood, two colors which are still regular price and one Sean bag in tulip. One pair Mary Jane spectators in dusty rose, size 8. The shoes have never been worn, the black might have been store display as the soles are not pristine but don't show actual wear either. If interested, email to crowrose at aol.com.

  92. Any reviews of the Lux Flannel Natalie jacket & matching pant? Would you wear a heel or flat with the suit? Also, what about the Leopard Kate coat - how does it fit? Do you think it would be too swingy on a short person (5'3")?

  93. Happy New Year! I would like to know what everyone has bought over the past year from jcrew, thought they had to have it, and thought they loved it, and never really wore it. Did you waste money on anything you thought you had to have? I did with some of the summer camis especially. They made me look like I was wearing maternity clothes, and I felt self-conscious in them unless I tucked them in! That style does not work on me. Took a while to figure it out. Some of them were way too big.

The elephant itself is very large. Distractingly so. Unfortunate, because the colors of the beads string and the charm are lovely. This piece was a 100% miss in person. 99. Good idea, cafecapri. I've gotten so much better at not even buying stuff I end up regretting - such as those many J.Crew camis with an unnecessary, stiff side zipper. I liked a lot of the designs, but the fit was horrible, so I just made myself put them back.

In fact, right now, I can't recall anything I bought at J.Crew this year that I've regretted. The few that I did, I was able to return within the 60-day window.

That's also why I don't purchase from final sale - I reserve the right to change my mind about any item that costs more than $20.

  102. Looking at the bathing suits under new arrivals, I noticed that the model is inconsistently photo-shopped. In some photos, she has many moles and freckles, while in others, they disappear completely! The obvious oversight aside, I'm disappointed in Jcrew, because freckles are beautiful!

  103. cafecapri:

The Suzannah cami was my biggest mistake. I thought I had to have it, and bought the last papaya color in size 2. I should have had a 0, and even then, I think the "maternity" style fit would be terrible. Most J.Crew camis are very unflattering on me, as they often balloon out. I have a similar problem with J.Crew jackets, in that they are extremely fitted in the shoulder and far too wide in the waist. I bought a black Bella jacket which I really like and wear now and again, but I would adore it and wear it all the time if I was happier with the fit.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Fluffles, I feel your pain. I just tried the penny & found it so tight across the shoulders & bulky as hell in the stomach area. Who wants to look like a teepee? I stay away from j.crew jackets a lot because of the narrow-cut shoulders.

  106. ITA about the JC jackets ~ the penney was so huge, I usu. get a 4-6, but the 2 fit, but looked awful. Then tried the astrid, same problem. I have had better success w/ the camis, altho they run big too. usu need a small or xs, bec. they fit big.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I just tried the droopy flower astrid & couldn't believe how boxy it was. The single closure was so unattractive. I hope J.crew gets its act together & makes some nicely fitted jacket. It seems like everything recently has been really boxy.

    ReplyDelete
  108. See I had good luck with the flower astrid but my beloved berry trim astrid looked TERRIBLE on me when I got it in the mail. I am not sure if it was the color (bright blue) or the style of the jacket, but I had to send it back to the J Crew gods. This KILLED me by the way because everyone seems to adore their berry astrid. Sigh, I guess some things are just not meant to be.

I consider the maggie jacket and the berry trim astrid to be the ones that got away...

But I must agree with the previous poster, I hope they start coming out with jackets that are more fitted.

    ReplyDelete
  109. I had luck with the astrid droopy flower too. I think the cut of the Astrids this season was *supposed* to be reminiscent of the 60s, i.e., on the boxy/swingy side, bracelet sleeves, etc. (see the string of posts under Alexis's Spring Line piece).

  110. Anon 8:39am, I got the tweed stormy coat and I feel it's a little too flashy to be wearing it on a daily basis to work or school. It fits great though and I love how I can wear the collar two ways, as well as the belt. I've had it for about 10 days and have worn it 3 times already to holiday events and out to dinner. Considering the deal I got on it, 179.99 w/ addt'l 30% off (it was originally $525!) I am definitely happy with my purchase.

  111. Does anyone know - if you contact a particular store where you know they are selling an item that you want, will they ship it to you from the store? I live nowhere near a BM and really want the new Victoria camis in the spring colors. I wish they had them online already!!

  114. Oh that is such good news! Can anyone tell me in which store locations did they see the Victoria camis in the pink, coral, and light gray? Also, did they come in any other new colors? It would be so pretty in that light green color or the spearmint.

  115. Ah, dear Professor: Don't you think J. crew makes absolutely perfect teaching clothes? Mine is a very granola school. Corduroy almost required for faculty. You can't dress in too stuffy a manner, yet not like a student. A fine line to walk, yet J. Crew makes it possible to wear what I like and what's expected of me.

Yet tonight, I went to a live taping of a public radio show. Found myself largely among my age peers who were almost to a person horribly dressed in mom jeans, running shoes, turtlenecks underneath bulky sweaters, acrylic yarn. . . Well, you get the picture. Where's their sense of fun? Don't they owe me any better?

Your cat appreciates your outfit more than the extra special abstract rose skirt-plus-sweaterjacket and silk tank I wore was noted. . . alas. . .

  118. re: jackets

So it seems there are a number of Aficionadas who really want to love J.Crew jackets but can't get a good fit :( Either the shoulders fit alright but the waistline is far too large (cf. the teepee comment!) or have a jacket be quite tight in the shoulders and only a slightly smaller waist (which is still too large sizing down). Harumph. I like a nice fit in the shoulder and I like my trim waistline to be accented. Putting on a J.Crew jacket oft makes me look round-bellied, which I'm not. I don't like hiding what I consider one of my best features underneath the "teepee".

I have an inkling that far fewer returns and exchanges would be done with jackets if this issue would be addressed, hint hint...

The other alternative, I guess, if we've fallen madly in love with a style of jacket, is to buy it on sale where it's inexpensive enough to justify tailoring. But who really wants to go through that for every jacket? Bless all those who can wear these jackets as they are!

    ReplyDelete
  119. The South Coast store had the light gray and coral Victoria cami in several sizes. I was in the store for about 45 minutes and I saw a few being sold (plus the white Victoria shirt). SC didn't have the pink...can't wait to see it.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Fluffles, yes, exactly. With jackets like the penny, I would have needed so much tailoring done I question whether the jacket would still hang nicely, so I just returned it. I, too, like not to feel constricted in the shoulders, and to have my waist accented, not hidden beneath folds and folds of fabric. But the jackets I've seen lately are a wash - just saw one in that dotted material, it was basically a rectangular piece of fabric with arms attached.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Yes, KOP had the new victoria camis ... 610-265-0210 :)

    ReplyDelete
  122. Anon- Sadly that's been my experience even with the "tailored, classic" style of jacket. Last season it was the Lexington and the Bella, this year it's the Maggie. I haven't tried the Penny myself, but from your comments I would expect the same if I tried it on. I do like the Aubrey, but I had to go from a P4 to a P0 to get a wearable fit. In that style I expect some room, but it was somehow still oversized even on top. I always LOVE the jackets and then strike out.

    ReplyDelete
  123. The Walnut creek store had the coral, lt pink, lt gray Victoria camis.

  125. I am so glad to read that i am not the only one to have problems with J. Crew jackets. For me, they are typically tight in the shoulders unless i size up; then they are too wide in the bodice. It seems i am going to strike out with the CF Astrid where neither size is going to work out.

Anon @ 6:32 PM: I have tried the pants of the Luxe Flannel suiting (J.Crew failed to send the jacket), but i ended up returning the pant and passing on the suit entirely because I didn't like the narrowness of the pant leg opening. After i tried them on, I realized they had this "carrot" look that was not flattering on me at all. I would have preferred them a bit flared rather than tapered. I also felt that they would not be professional enough in a conservatively dressed environment. A pity too, because the jacket looks cute.

Fidele! Yes, the culture of teaching is perfect for the new high/low upscale/street-smarts JCrew. I cringed with familiarity at your audience:
"horribly dressed in mom jeans, running shoes, turtlenecks underneath bulky sweaters, acrylic yarn"
*** especially, GASP, the acrylic yarn. [As a life-long knitter thanks to a practical-minded grandmother, I remain mentally alergic to acrylic yarn. Still skeptical about all faculty meetings and lectures I must attend, I always have a luxurious project to pull out.]

The JCrew jackets and wide-variety of pants allow me to t-shirt or silk-blouse, add antique jewelry, and feel I am Playing Happily With Fashion, my own adult Sandbox. Carries me even through the dreaded 8 a.m. classes it is occasionally my turn to take on. STAY STRONG. Other teachers ARE noticing you and will join the revolution. I should add "professor's originality of dress" to the end-of-quarter evaluations [hmmmmm] . . .

  144. Jane,

Are you talking about washing the silk or cotton Victoria?

As for your question about the black Victoria, it did look somewhat goth when I saw it. Not a daytime blouse by any means. I bought the white one and love it!!!

    ReplyDelete
  145. JaneEsq, I HAVE the black ruffle (also the silky sleeveless white/ivory) and ADORE it for work.

Yes, I did think it might be a little goth, initially--but, then, I thought the black cascading flowers astrid seemed very Addams Family (black flowers? how dead). Now, however, I'm infatuated with the black astrid, the flowers seem like soft clouds of silk.

I love the black ruffle blouse, but wear it without a necklace and often with a cashmere sweater vest or, new fav, a JCrew men's vest and chinos/dressy shoes. I don't even feel vaguely adventurous when I wear it . . .

    ReplyDelete
  146. Kate,

was referring to the shirt, which is cotton. Doesn't it seem odd that they recommend dry cleaning a shirt that is 100% cotton? I was hoping to be able to handwash it with woolite and then just get it pressed...

    Professor,

LOVING the idea of a men's vest!! The thing that is throwing me off about the black shirt is that I am very fair skinned and am a little nervous I will look like morticia adams. I am dying to get my hands on a cascading flower astrid, but alas, the size 2s flew off the shelves.

    ReplyDelete
  149. JaneEsq:
No one is more fair skinned than I. Truly. The black victoria actually gives me more facial color than the white or stripped. [I've even given up on blush, which, however lightly applied, looks more clown-like on my white skin than Bobbi Brown.]

The men's vests are SO well made, pockets deep enough for cell phones or lip gloss or keys. Heaven. I only buy them on sale, small, and have quite the collection. [They even have the convenient adjustable belt in back to get the "pinned" waisted look!] The man's vest allows me to avoid a suited jacket with the victoria shirt--so I can show off and enjoy the sleeves. These vests always finish off an outfit, even with jeans. They are wonderful with other shirts & seaters & piles of necklaces . . .

  152. Bug Pin,

This is just a guess, but maybe she is trying to help you. You've posted before about how much you've spent on J. Crew and how you financed your purchases with credit card debt. I know people joke on here all the time about the enabling going on, but sometimes, you know, enabling can cause real damage to real people. Maybe she doesn't want to be a part of that.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Jane,

It is certainly possible to wash the Victora yourself, but the tiny pleats would probably need to be pressed by a dry cleaner. But I would be afraid the pleats would come out in the wash, whereas they would not come out if dry cleaned.

Just got back from B&M and I am so pleased with my purchases (otherwise completely picked over)...

Madeline Coat in deep persimmon for $136.84, and the cornsilk fireball bracelet $35.01

Yay! The Madeline is an absolutely beautiful striking red, it is gorge! It made my New Year! Ha! I truly believe that the fabric and color of the coat deem it appropriate for all 3seasons, unless it is bitter cold.

Just ask the SAs to look up the price...it should ring up as 59.99 for the solids.

  178. I have the black one and I love it. I dresses up any outfit. I don't wear it to work but rather to a nice dinner or an event. The shirt doesn't disappoint. :)

I wanted the stripe one but it was sold out in my size. :(

  179. I have the black/white striped Victoria, and it is just lovely. I really feel like it goes with anything like jeans, skirts, underneath shells. It really looks so expensive, and I only paid $42.

  180. I have searched all over for a black/white striped victoria ruffle in size 4 but have not had any luck. I even got a CS rep to do a "We'll Find It" (they usually won't do this if it's on sale) ... but no one seems to have it anymore :(

I have the striped and I really love it. I was actually grappling between the black and white solid today and decided on the white simply because the black was sold out in my size :) My concern for the black was that it was a little gothic and that I wouldn't be able to wear it to work. However, if you have a lot of events and dinners to go to as another JCA mentioned, the black seems to be a really unique piece. If you are looking for something a tad bit more versatile (work, day, etc.) I would go with the white...hope this helps!!

  183. Sort of OT: Was in the Walnut Creek store this evening, and there was a rack of random coats. I swear there was a Lucido coat there and the sticker tag read...$19.99!!! No joke. I almost bought it for that price but I couldn't believe it! I think it was a size 12.

Other than that--store was picked over but great staff!

  184. Has anyone seen the Victoria ruffle shirt (in any color) in a size 12?
Jilz - do you know the phone number (or state location) if the Walnut Creek store? I am dying for a new coat, and anything for $19.99 is certainly worth following up on! thanks!

  185. Anon 1:26 - The South Coast B&M had the Victoria shirt in white, size 12. I saw it on Tuesday night. (714 979 2739)

BTW - the Walnut Creek store is in CA (925 943 7664)

Hope you find the shirt. I am visiting a couple of B&Ms tomorrow. If I see it, I will post here.

  186. Anon -- I don't know if you'd want the Lucido, even for $19.99 -- it's this coat: http://jcrewaficionada.blogspot.com/2008/09/questionable-items-of-week-lucido-and.html

  188. Anon @ 9:01 - Victoria blouse is a unique piece. I have the white and wear it frequently, it is very versatile.

A lot of people think black is great, but it's true that only very few people look really good in black, although many do look OK. White is a more flattering color to most, which is why men look more dressed up in a white shirt under a suit.

I think the white looks better with more dark colors and will also transition into your spring wardrobe better. Black doesn't go nearly so well with the light neutrals and pastels that we are seeing, and not just at JCrew.

  189. I have the Victoria in white, and camel & white stripe on the way. I like the softer colors because it would appear that ruffles and frilly details are on the way out and the darker accent on the black and b&w stripe will make the ruffles a standout feature, shortening the life of the garment as far as trends go. I'm old enough to have seen the trend disappear before and you may think you can wear this blouse forever, like all the tuxedo ruffle shirts, it will be passe in a couple of seasons.

If you have the Victoria blouse or cami - wear it, wear it, wear it. While you can.

  190. I love the way the black/white striped victoria looks on the model but worry whether all the stripes would make me look like an overdone candy cne irl. any thoughts?

  191. sorry, I meant to say candy cane!

  192. Anon at 9:13 AM. I completely disagree with you. I think everyone should wear what they want and when they want. When you are every afraid to wear something because you think its not in fashion anymore think Carrie Bradshaw of S&C. What Anon at 9.13am expressed is an outdated view, young people dont think like that anymore. Particularly people in NYC... we value personal style over fashion. Ladies, hold on to your favorite items and wear them as much as you want. Dont listen to those who try to impose on you what you should and should not wear!

The only reason I've succumbed to JCrew now is Jenna, who breaks all rules. I am certain she's received criticism all her life and reminded of The Rules. She breaks them to our delight.

Further, risk-taking is critical to finding a powerful style; we've got to be willing to change our minds, make some mistakes, ignore the rules others want or need. Notice them with respect, then move on to own own Wonderful Worlds.

Remember when the rules for women's dress were even more stringent? (I will spare everyone the lengthy horrific list of what we could and could not wear, especially professionally). Rules about what colors could or could not marry in an outfit?

I study marketing and retail psychology, among other things. FASHION is agreed by those in the business to be a Tool to get people to buy more than they need--last year's stuff won't work because someone puts it on the dated list. Granted, each of us may discard a style we once over-endulged in, but that's an internal barometer, not externally imposed.

I adore it when JCrewers share size information, fit, how things are made, their favorites, what they are trying or yearning for. I despair when they go on to tell us what they hate. [Some of us are wearing and enjoying what they hate. And it's no good to say, "Ignore them!" because we are Social Animals, especially women. It rains on our Unique Parade, a wee bit.]

  194. Anon @ 11:39,

I agree. If something is a special to you that is all that matters. You can update your look in many other ways, but still stay true to your own style. At times, I do question why I have kept some things, however there are other items that I wish I would have kept (like my mom's jewelry from the 60s and 70s).

I definitely care about trends, however sometimes I think we are slaves to it. I know that these J.Crew items are not the highest of quality, but if you smile 5 years from now while wearing it what else matters? ;)
