Surprise! Extra 30% Off Extended Until Friday {yey!}

"Thanks!" to many of you, including J./Anon at 7:41 PM (in this post) as well as lleila (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew has extended their latest promotion from Wednesday to Friday... wahoo!

J.Crew is offering an additional 30% off with promo code EXTRA30. This offer now expires 1/30/09.

And as many of you have noticed and mentioned in this post, J.Crew's website is not working properly again. The website issues have been fluctuating back and forth from "up & running", running slowly, and "site down" today. {grrrr.}

Hare you been able to take advantage of this offer (or has the website issues affect your ability to checkout)? If you have been (or plan on) using this promotion, want items are you getting? :)

  1. I'm not taking advantage of this offer and can't even get to my shopping cart if I DID want to...I just get the dreaded green page everytime I click on it.

  2. The prices seem to be going up on some sale items as well (ex. some colors of the cashmere Jackie were $99 yesterday, back up to $168 today)... weird!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Does that mean the new arrivals will not be posted until the weekend?

I did not take advantage of the sale. I debated on the Thompson tote then I decided I really did not need it.

  4. I was able to snag some Watson pants in black, Favorite-fit Chinos in dark fog, and two tees. Now I just have to wish and hope my Watson pants aren't canceled!

  5. Theres a double serge pencil skirt in my size on there now but its bronzed ochre... wish it was black! Won't be taking advantage til I can get that item. This is really requiring some restraint!!

  6. FFM: I began experiencing this looonngg before anyone else commented. I was actually debating reinstalling MY whole system thinking it was on My end. Have you tried starting in safe mode? That is the only way I can see any JCrew items. HTH!

  7. JCrewAdorer-try unplugging and replugging your modem.

  8. I broke down and ordered the giraffe merino cardigan and the skinny garden bracelet! I wish the sweater had been less $$, but it was one item that I really wanted so I pulled the trigger. The site is a mess and it is slim pickings!! I did pick up the new catalog in my store yesterday (I don't think that I was supposed to get it:)
there are a few must haves already marked.

  9. Yay :) I'm searching for some tops for my Mom per her request :) I already found her the ruffle cotton tee, the luxe knit 3/4 sleeve top, and the gathered luxe knit top (the one with the little bow). The drapey shapes are flattering for her body type and she can wear them to work.

I'm not sure what I'll get for myself. One can NEVER have too many cardigans.

  10. I had problems logging in and with my shopping cart. I had to phone in my order then the silly cs girl attempted to not give me my 30% discount when she finalized the order. She had the gall to ask me what was the code. I finally ordered the Astrid jacket in golden avocado, duponi skirt w/matching color portland cardigan and Metallic Mary Janes. I hope the Mary Janes ship. They only had about ten pair left.

  11. I mentioned this above to JCrewAdorer, but it seems like a few people (myself included) have had trouble getting J. Crew's site to load at all.

What I believe is happening is that J. Crew's site is banning some people's ip addresses altogether, mistakenly thinking some servers are spamming their site.

The reason I think this is happening is because I noticed I couldn't get onto J. Crew at all, on any browser, even after clearing my cookies, etc. Therefore, I determined J. Crew must be blocking my entire server (the error message I was getting also said something to that effect).

I decided to test this theory by bringing my laptop to my local coffee shop and using their wi fi, and Presto! jcrew.com loaded fine.

Then I went back to my house, and jcrew.com was not loading on my laptop again. I unplugged and replugged my modem to reset the ip address, and it started working again :)

    ReplyDelete
  12. My cable modem does not give me a different IP address, it it static. There is some type of security feature kicking in, maybe they are limiting the numbers of orders per IP address thinking that the IP address is coming from an EBAY reseller. Just a thought.

  13. I know this has been discussed before, but can anyone tell me if "bright rhubarb" is a pink, or a red?

I'm interested in ordering a final sale item in that color if it is more of a pink. I look great in pinks (everything from pale pink to even hot pink) but look horrid in red.

    Thanks :)

    ReplyDelete
  14. Em, you should try to bronzed ochre. I was not going near that colour until I saw some sets that FFM created. One was with burgundy on top and I have several burgundy jackets and sweaters. I got the skirt last week and Ilove it. The color is not as yellow IRL as it looks online, it is more muted and almost camel. Looks great with burgundy or even a white or grey blouse. The quality of the skirt is so wonderful and the price less 30% is a terrific deal!

  15. I wanted to use the promotion, I PLANNED to use the promotion, but for the first time ever, they haven't updated the website with anything I've wanted! How frustrating!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Aww sorry to hear that didn't work for you anon.

For some reason my ip resets each time I unplug the modem.

Sometimes there is a way you can manually reset your ip address.

If it is any consolation, ip addresses usually reset themselves every so often. Or maybe J. Crew's "ban" on an ip expires eventually.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I suspect J.Crew is taking action against people who are on the site for a long time (all day, every day) and they are kicking them off and denying their IP access. I imagine it is because of the amount of traffic after the inauguration. J.Crew probably thinks that all the lurkers should just buy and get off or stay off and let others onto the site.

What they really should do is make changes to allow more simultaneous access. I work in IT and I've seen CEOs that just don't get it when it comes to IT. Perhaps Mickey doesn't want to spend the money required to fix the site and is trying to get IT to come up with a workaround. The economic situation may dictate that there isn't new investment in IT at J.Crew.

I hope I'm wrong because that would be a terrible business practice to alienate your dedicated customers, but sadly, it wouldn't surprise me.

  18. I placed a couple of orders using the promo. I was able to find what I wanted and threw in a FP item as well since it seemed to be popular and I didn't want it to sell out.

Really waiting for the spring new arrivals.

    ReplyDelete
  19. FYI- the site did not update until after 10am CST yesterday...
    Twiga

    ReplyDelete
  20. so I should stop obsessively refreshing the JC site? :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Does the update time change each day?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I snagged a black silk dupioni skirt on Monday and fretted about whether or not I'd actually receive it until I finally received the shipping confirmation late last night... now I'm worried I'll open the box and find a pair of kids' socks or something! Oh, I hope not b/c I bought it in pink and LOVE it; now I want it in practically every color! I hadn't planned to purchase anything else, but the green astrid boucle jacket is veeeeeeery tempting at $35...! I know many of you have it and have discussed it at length, but, just to confirm, it's tts, yes? TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm growing increasingly disappointed in what some people call 'vanity sizing'. I received an order yesterday (yay) and 2 of the shirts I ordered were too big-they were size 2T and XS. I'm not that small-it's craziness!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Anon @8:17 - The update had been pretty consistent at a little after 8 each morning for the past few weeks. It was later yesterday and once last week, so not exactly sure what will happen today.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Though the sale page hasn't updated, if you search by item number for stuff you want, sometimes things will show up.

    ReplyDelete
  26. It's so picked over!! There's nothing good left!!! I hope they restock soon (from their secret warehouse-sized stash of EVERYTHING THAT I WANT).
Wouldn't it be great if they had some sort of a on-line "waitlist" feature on all items? So that when something gets restocked, whoever is next on the list would get it so we don't have to play all these crazy games? It would be so nice not to have to quietly log onto my computer at 5:00 a.m...

    ReplyDelete
  27. I've been clicking on some stuff and when it brings it up, the items they suggest in the column on the right side of the page show up that aren't listed. i just saw a jenna bracelet, some bangle, and skinny patent belts, pop up if anyone is looking for one.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I don't think it is vanity sizing for the tops it is more a change in style away from the fitted look that is making tops baggier.

When the tops were fitted I had to size up even though my weight did not change, now I have to size down.

What gets me J Crew description on some of these items still say its is fitted when it is clearly is not.

    ReplyDelete
  29. alexis, while i try to be on top of the blog-- sometimes work gets in the way.... just got the Hayworth Giraffe Cami the has sold out rather quickly in the stores...... would be glad to write up a review, if no one has done so.... let me know.... navr77@yahoo

    ReplyDelete
  30. Just ordered a Shipley for $69.99 total with discount and rewards card. Hope I actually receive it!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Same. I ordered an XS top and it is too big. It isn't just the way styles are changing. Even if the top was meant to be blousy/drapey, it is not supposed to be baggy. I have very broad shoulders too.

As long as I can still wear 0/2 or XS then I guess I'm OK. But I used to be able to take bigger sizes when I was younger/thinner, which tells me J. Crew's sizing system has changed, and it does worry me that their sizing will keep getting increasingly bigger.

    ReplyDelete
  32. lleila:

Bright Rhubarb is DEFINITELY pink... a deep, saturated pink. It's a very pretty, bold color, but not bright enough to be obnoxious. I personally really like it (and I don't do so well in red either!)

    HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  33. FFM: I was having the same problem, which was that I couldn't go directly to my cart.

The solution is, when you go to the JCrew.com page, click on the SALE link first. Then click on your cart and it will show up.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Well America keeps getting bigger and bigger.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Just got a long navy Sophia dress for $70, white cords for $14, and two sanur dresses (they got more inventory).

Not too bad, but half of my 30% discount went toward shipping :(

    ReplyDelete
  36. That's my same sitch, lleila. It fits me in a way that it's not supposed to-just looks messy. I hope I don't get sized out!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hi! I used this code to purchase the navy Nicky. :) I have tried it on in store and find it to be super-flattering. Yay!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I won't use this code unless they add new items to their inventory. Everything is so picked over. I'm worried about buying anything from the restock inventory, especially after some of the JCAs comments about items that had obviously been worn and returned. No thanks! Plus, I'm bored of these styles. I'm ready for something new :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. maybe they aren't restocking because they have finally gotten low on inventory since this sale has been going on for quite awhile now...just a thought. I'm ready to move on and see spring!

    ReplyDelete
  40. i picked up a bathing suit, two head scarves (which i am mildly obsessed with), two pairs of shorts and the sanur dress. it all came in a shade under 100, so i am pretty happy with that.

i hadn't seen the sanur dress in the bright papaya color until it was in the FS section. the muted tones of green and navy that i had seen it in really aren't the best colors for me. i loved the back of this dress though so i am crossing my fingers it is as wonderful as i am hoping.

    ReplyDelete
  41. That's true. They may finally have gotten rid of their winter stock.

The 30% off knocked a lot of their inventory, plus it is final sale, so returns aren't replenishing the stock.

I really don't need any more Winter stuff anyways :) Actually, I probably don't need any more Spring stuff...but Eh...!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I am bummed I missed out on the crackle mary janes in my size!! I am really hoping they bring out something similar in the spring launch.

I am finding that half the 'FS' things I order aren't FS after all, but the problem is, you don't really know for sure until after you check out and get your order confirmation!

I bought wild rose patent MJ's and a boucle scarf jacket and saved nearly half off the FS price. The boucle jacket isn't actually FS and so can be returned.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Someone posted that their J. Crew was taking an additional 50% off some markdowns. Does anyone know if that is the case at other stores?

Also, are stores still doing the additional 30% off sale items in general?

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Can anyone tell me how the patent leather Mary Janes fit? Are they TTS? Horribly uncomfortable? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  45. jackie from dc, I say go for it regarding the green boucle astrid. That color isn't one that would work for me, but I bought this jacket first in pink, and liked it so much I also got it in charcoal. Like you said, for $35-40, that's a great price for a very chic little jacket.

    ReplyDelete
  46. If anyone wanted the Opera Gloves, they're on sale for 49$-just put in item 98621

They weren't in the regular final sale.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Anon @ 9:46: I have the Alessia Maryjanes in size 9 and the peeptoes in size 8.5 because the blurb about the peeptoes mentioned to size down half a size. The 9 in maryjanes is good because the toe is a little narrow. I take 8.5 or 9 in JCrew shoes depending on the shoe. They are comfortable but the heel is 3.5 inches which makes my feet sore after standing for a while. I do really like them.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I used the 30% code to buy the Amazing Golden Roses Coat [already reduced] that just popped in for an appearance in FS yesterday--in my exact size! There is a goddess.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I took advantage of this offer, but only for a select list of items I made prior to the sale. I had to wait for an item in the right size/color to make an appearance. I ordered the long dream cardi in plum, the velvet ecole in gray and brown, and a broken in polo for my bf. Now I'm just waiting for 1 more item, hopefully it'll show later this morning.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I took advantage of this offer as well and purchased the travel trench in navy plus the Kya cami in white.

I wanted to add the banker-striped shirt in a small, but it is currently sold out in that size. I'll keep checking though because I just received it in a medium and it is huge.

    ReplyDelete
  51. i just talked to my PS and she said that they were doing additional 50% off all winter items and then 30% off the 2nd sale items (so the later "winter" early spring "items") so if anyone is lucky to find a winter jacket or coat or boots that they've wanted starting today its 50%!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I decided to "pull the trigger" on the serengeti peep toes. They only had my size (7) left, so I considered it fate :)

It's interesting what lleila mentioned about banning IP addresses. I have been reading so many troubles logging onto the site this week, but I have been on several times at all times of the day with no problem. Hmmm.

    ReplyDelete
  53. anyone in the boston area, looking for a lille coat in black in 2, there's one left at the copley store and its 99 online so its 50$ !! i'd call and put it on hold!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Pudding - you are right that it is hit or miss as to which items will arrive with "Final Sale" on the receipt. I noticed that it will tell you in your order confirmation email in red below the items that are actually final sale... I have easily returned a couple of items that I purchased from the FS section of the site, but didn't fit and were never actually marked FS. I took them in to return in-store and they didn't give me any trouble at all. Kind of good to know...

    ReplyDelete
  55. Bought several crewcuts dresses and sweaters for DD. I really think some crewcuts items are better quality than women's items. IMO the cotton sweater jackets and coats are fabulous. My only complaint about crewcuts is that they dont show the items on models and also dont provide exact measurements of garments.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Anon @ 9:46:

I have the Alessia maryjanes in cool graphite--love them, and I got them for only $48! :) I had to size down to a 7 1/2 (normally wear size 8). they are on the narrow side in the toe, so they might be a little snug at first.

    ReplyDelete
  57. WOW HUGE restock, just went from 440 to 1100 items, i just happen to click refresh!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Huge update, but very slow site right now. Or is it just me?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Anon 10:58-
    No it's realllly slow.

    ReplyDelete
  60. La Belle Helene: Thanks! I think I will-- surprisingly, pink was the the color that didn't look good on _me_! I've read comments from a few JCAs saying that all the colors of this jacket were gorgeous, so I thought I'd give "golden avocado" a try. As you said, it's too good a deal to pass up!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Site is going to crash...green screen again.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Stay Tuned is now up. Is anyone able to see anything on the site? Thanks.

    J.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Yup, got the "Stay Tuned" sign up...

    ReplyDelete
  64. back to "stay tuned" msg.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Stay tuned!!! They must be still updating it.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Argh!! Why can't J Crew fix their ridiculous website issues!?! I've been trying to buy FS items and use their coupon and the site keeps crashing. Why even offer us a coupon if your website is not up to handling the volume of customers generated by the coupon?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Good god J.Crew, pull it together!

...At least the hassles of their website are turning me off so much that I've been very good about no orders!

    ReplyDelete
  68. HA! I guess I'll buy that astrid IF the site starts working again... seriously, at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if that terrible, pathetic website went down and simply never came back-- either out of shame or, more likely, another manifestation of JC's profound IT incompetence!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Does the regular Jackie cardi and the cashmere one run the same in sizing? I usually wear a S in the regular because my usual size, XS, is too little. Does the cashmere Jackie also run a bit small?

    ReplyDelete
  70. I thought the internet was supposed to make buying FASTER...

    ReplyDelete
  71. GAH! J.Crew!!!!!

    *Shaking fist*

Why do I continue this abusive relationship with you?

    ReplyDelete
  72. it was working ok for a moment and I was able to check out and now it is Stay Tuned again :(

    ReplyDelete
  73. Although the site is slow, I've actually been able to search through the majority of stuff I would be interested in and my total purchase ... $0. Oh well, there is always tomorrow!!...and now the site is down again :(

    ReplyDelete
  74. oh well that's nice. I was already almost done checking out & an item disappeared from my cart. I'm done.

    ReplyDelete
  75. OT: Are all the B&Ms running 30% off sale including crewcuts?

    ReplyDelete
  76. This is beyond ridiculous. So sad. JCrew...I think you are going to go down in this economy if you can't provide better web service. Really--beyond belief.

    ReplyDelete
  77. wow,

someone actually checked out! What did you get? I would love to live through you since I can't get a thing!

    ReplyDelete
  78. This is ridiculous...why offer coupon codes (not even new ones, just the same one extended) if your website can't handle the volume?! So frustrating!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Trust me--J Crew is NOT taking action against certain people getting on their site. I don't mean to be a total be-otch but they have MUCH bigger fish to fry than to lock certain lurkers out. They WANT people's business--this is just a horrendous outcome of something they are doing while STILL working on their HORRENDOUS site. You are giving them far too much credit--they have MUCH greater problems on their hands.

    ReplyDelete
  80. suilove - where did you hear that winter items are 50% off? i just talked to a CS rep and she said that that isn't true.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I finally gave up on the J Crew website this morning. The site is super slow and keeps crashing just when I am about to check out.

    ReplyDelete
  82. "even the best sites aren't perfect"??!! seriously, Jcrew, stop embarassing yourselves and take that down.

    ReplyDelete
  83. P-A-T-H-E-T-I-C-!!!!! is what this website is. And what we are - for putting up with it!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Gia,
Good find on those shoes, they have been sold out forever! I hunted for a 7 for a long time and eventually bought a 6.5 from another JCA. They are SO CUTE and I love them! I get compliments every time I wear them. I know you will love them too!

    ReplyDelete
  85. I am so frustrated at the website right now-- of course, after they add new inventory!! I am going to write a letter to Mickey tonight. This really makes me want to cancel my JCrew card. If this was only occasional, or even once monthly, it would be different, but this happens EVERY TIME THERE IS A SALE, which is pretty much at LEAST once a week. I am very disappointed.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I think I'll write a letter this evening as well. This is absolutely ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  87. anna,

this was at my local b&m at copley in boston. it's for this store as far as i know...i don't know about other stores..

    not online.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Pff! Forget it! Amazon.com just got the money [I'm not supposed to be spending!] instead.

    Mickey, we're over.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Oh and wouldn't everyone just FEEL SO MUCH BETTER if they admitted their FAULTS with the website and put a REAL apology for their misfortune throughout the entire past several months?! I find that the most ludicrous of all.

Kendra-when you write Mickey, please include that piece of info--how about an APOLOGY to all your loyal fans for the nonsense they go through EVERY day just to shop their site!

    ReplyDelete
  90. W.T.F.????????
Seriously, between site interuptions & then rushing to check out so you don't lose the item that you DID manage to get into your cart......how can fixing this IT problem not pay for itself? I know I'd be spending more (hence funds to pay for a decent website!!!!)
    arghhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  91. oh my god how have people been able to check out....! do you buy one item at a time...i'm dying for these 3 items...and every time my shopping cart gets emptied...calling CS right now but have been on hold......-_- this is so discouraging...not for jcrew but how crazy obsessed i am to be this persistent.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I ordered a few things this morning, but I won't be surprised if I receive the dreaded "cancelled" email.

    ReplyDelete
  93. i feel like there has to be a reason they do this. Can it really be that there website is crashing because they can't fix it? they have tons of money for technical problems I'm sure. I just feel like their is some scheme behind it....

    doesn't make sense.

Like if they don't let you have what you want, then it makes you want it more, and you will be more likely to order something when the site does work.

I dont know. Seems a little fishy...

    ReplyDelete
  94. There are flaws regardless of the massive crashing that happens when there is a sale online. It's ridiculous. GAP was able to revamp 4...count them...FOUR of their websites, link them all together and create one checkout. Not to mention regular free shipping & addtl % off perks.

    ReplyDelete
  95. ok i give up...the three items that were in my cart that i've been trying to check out for the last 30 mins....i called CS and they DO NOT HAVE those items in stock...apparently so...
for those of you looking at

    *leopard sequin cardigan
    *onyx sequin dress
    *a-line petite taffeta skirt

in your shopping cart...they do not actually exist...

    m@#$(*@#$@*(^!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  96. I shop online for the convenience, but now it seems driving to a b&m may be less of a hassle given all the website issues.

I didnt expect such incompetence from JCrew. I dont believe it is the volume of traffic to the website. It is just poor design and lots of bugs in their system. Clean it up so that you can remain in business.

    This is truly awful.

    ReplyDelete
  97. i wish we could hack into their site and leave a message for mickey

    ReplyDelete
  98. I received my Shipley coat on Monday and wore it today. What a beautiful coat. The fabric is so soft and it is warm and comfortable. I got it FS with 20% off and I'm glad I didn't wait for the 30% as black is now sold out.

Thanks to Slastena who reviewed the Shipley and provided many photos on her blog. Love it.

    ReplyDelete
  99. i guess my money is going to gilt, ideeli, and revolve today...sorry mickey you BLEW it.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Trying to use the site today is just making my back hurt. It works, then it doesn't, then you think you've added something to your cart, only to try and checkout and....."Stay Tuned." I can't think of a more painful and tortuous shopping experience (aside from maybe having to go to a physical mall...yuck).

I've got my rewards card in-hand, all geared up to spend, but I don't even want bother. I can't even stand to click on anything. ANYTHING! Such a horrible user experience. Seriously. Horrible.

    ReplyDelete
  101. theres a m missoni sale on gilt today! starts at noon...i can't imagine how loaded the site gets everyday at noon but i've never had a problem ordering...hmm have i...hmm no i haven't...that only happens at jcrew. you hear that, mickey?

    ReplyDelete
  102. I think I finally made it through...after 5 attempts, and adding the items back into my cart 3 times...

Haven't received a confirmation email yet, and the site is down again, so we'll see if it actually ships. This is ridiculous.

But I think I managed to snag the Golden roses skirt that I have been coveting forever.

    Fingers crossed

    ReplyDelete
  103. Oh my blanking blank. My cart has been dumped 3 times. I have a $75 rewards card that I want to use. I think after this its cancellation to the card and a boycotting of j crew. I mean really. If they can't get the site to work they should at least be courteous and actually put the site down until it is fixed. It is just very very rude. I'll take the $500 a month I spend there somewhere else.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Does anyone have an opinion/review of the 'Enamel-button long sweater jacket'? Item #99958. I'm considering purchasing and would appreciate anything you ladies have to offer. TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  105. Hi Everyone,
I have just spent a good hour on the phone with a WONDERFUL gal from JCrew Support Services. I got the dreaded 'Forbidden' screen this morning after shopping for a week without any issues. She did not try to tell me to dump cookies or temp. internet files. She DID ask me to email her a screenshot of the 'Forbidden' page and she is diligently working with IT to resolve these issues. They are FINALLY aware of the problem. She could not have been more helpful or concerned about the issue and as I type this, the 'forbidden' screen has disappeared and the familiar 'be back soon' sign has taken its place! Not that it is good that the website is down AGAIN but at least I have access . . . She wanted me to know that JCrew is VERY concerned about this issue and values all of their customers. She placed my order for me and offered free overnight shipping. She is also keeping in touch with me concerning this issue, and she DID call back this morning with a request to restart my computer and to ask for other technical information. I appreciated her help and undivided attention and I feel I got the GREAT customer service for which JCrew is known.
I'll post more on this issue as I get updates from Tammy (the support rep) . . .
I am just floored like the rest of you that there appear to be so many technical glitches with the website that have been ongoing since July '08 . . .how much money has JCrew lost as shoppers have spent their $ at other vendors?

    ReplyDelete
  106. ugh ugh ugh....I echo everyone else. I have a cart full of pretty cute things at GAP ready for their next coupon but...I'd rather shop at Jcrew. Not like this though!

    ReplyDelete
  107. I got all the way to checkout with my must-have of the day and then pulled the plug myself...I feel like I have spent too much on FS already...though I wish I would have waited on this one...

Now if it were also free shipping, that would be another story!!

    ReplyDelete
  108. For those looking for the leopard sequin cardigan, it is available online now! Good luck :)

    ReplyDelete
  109. Wow, free overnight shipping. My PS refused to give me free shipping. She said only 30% even though I got the dreaded Forbidden ALL DAY yesterday.

You are truly blessed with your CS rep.

I emailed my PS about my problems and she could have cared less. Just, well, I am sorry. Can I take your order?

Well, no b/c I am so pissed I don't care anymore!

    ReplyDelete
  110. I would not use my rewards card on an order right now. Too many things could go wrong with cancellations etc. and getting the $ refunded or partially refunded.

Just a thought. I am saving mine and not using it on final sale. Also, don't want to use my rewards card on something I am "stuck with" if it doesn't fit or look good.

Use it on something new and easy to order and returnable is my advice.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Just take the bloody website down and FIX it and then let us back.

I'm sick of bandaid fixes they seem to be doing.

Or if they're using the downtime to upload new items, then take it down and put a notice for when they will be back. That way, these down times are not intermittent and frequent.

Whatever they do they need to do it with customers convenience in mind.

Perhaps, some really bad publicity on this issue will do them some good. They obviously dont care about the inconvenience to us.

    ReplyDelete
  112. "Bad publicity" hmmm. Good idea! But how??

    ReplyDelete
  113. I've spent an hour & 15 mins trying to order, then decided I am not going to go through this to spend money with them.
The website issues are out of hand.
    No more.

Does anyone have the email to write to Mickey about this?

    ReplyDelete
  114. Argh, I am so ready for the new arrivals!

    ReplyDelete
  115. Has anyone been to the B&M in Columbus, Ohio (Easton) lately? Is it worth the trip, or has the sale section been totally scavenged? Are they offering 30% off or more? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  116. Thanks Smarty...

Now I'll just wait and see if the Serengeti peep toes actually ship out since I am already creating outfits in my head involving those shoes! *Fingers crossed*

    ReplyDelete
  117. Anyone in the newspaper business that can help us? We need to make JCrew accountable! I don't think they are even trying.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Speaking of strange web site anomalies... is anyone having trouble with endless.com today? Every single item I click on is out of stock in every color and size... every single one, even arbitrary brands. Very strange...

    ReplyDelete
  119. I just received my Leopard Sequin cardigan yesterday, and it looks different from the pics on the site.... for some reason the sequins look like they have a slight greenish tint. Did anybody else come across this? I think I'm going to return it, since it did not come up as FS when I purchased it.

    ReplyDelete
  120. what size did you purchase the leopard sequin cardigan, marietta??

    ReplyDelete
  121. On top of the website issues, it seems the warehouse is still having problems...I received an order last night without an item I paid for.

Yes, I realize I was taking a chance ordering a low inventory FS item, but it *didn't* get canceled. They charged me for it, said it shipped and simply didn't put it in the box.

They are refunding my money, of course, but this is the fourth time in two months this has happened. I guess I am a glutton for punishment, since I keep coming back! :)

I wouldn't mind dropping Mickey a line, if anyone has his email address. I've tried voicing my concerns (about many things) to CS and get frustrating, irritating emails in return.

My husband thinks I am crazy to put up with JC's problems and I'm beginning to think he's right! :)

    ReplyDelete
  122. There was an article in the Wall Street Journal last summer that detailed their web site issues. I think it's when they upgraded their site to the current look. The CEO blamed the web issues on their declining sales (um, not their rising prices?). I wonder if this is a continuation of last summers' issues?

    ReplyDelete
  123. I haven't had any problems accessing the site but it is timing out on me today. I ordered a lady day in dark poppy yesterday for $90 (woot!) without issue. But I don't think I'll be buying anything else unless the Lulu's pop up in a 6.5

    ReplyDelete
  124. Shannon, Must be nice to be you......wow. Yesterday and today have been the worst days online for me EVER...handsdown!

    ReplyDelete
  125. Marietta,

Green tinge? really? Makes me very nervous to get mine now....and mine is final sale coming today but in a Large.

Wish I could see a picture of what you mean. Sounds bizarre.

    ReplyDelete
  126. For those who like the Sanur dress: I also like the parlor knit dress too. The fabric is a bit lighter, but the part that sold me was the shoulder straps. I also like the Sanur dress, but I can't seem to get a strapless bra to work under the size that fits my chest, at least for this year's version.

    ReplyDelete
  127. marietta,

could i purchase it from you if it doesn't work out? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  128. im at j.monicakim at gmail

    thanks!!

    ReplyDelete
  129. I am beginning to wonder what is wrong with ME that I keep checking the site only to find that either it is unresponsive, completely down or if an item does open I get the "sorry this item is sold out message". Plus it's now after noon CST and I always worry about ordering later in the day because so many things become unavailable only to reappear the next morning. Their shipping fees are ridiculous enough without having to place multiple orders to get the stuff you want.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Anon at 1:14 - it looks different to me than the pic that is on their site. When I enlarge their pics, the sequins look more silvery. In person, though, they look like there is a slight greenish tinge. I went back to Slastena's blog, and looked at her pics more close up, and that is what I am seeing in person:

    http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_X1--guErnnk/SXVMRiuQ2EI/AAAAAAAAAx4/aaZyR3SFsNk/s1600-h/IMG_6942.JPG

The placement of the sequins even looks different from the pics on their site. It is a pretty sweater, just not what I was expecting.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I tried to take advantage of the offer and got the green page as well....also couldn't use my rewards card. The page said to call in with my number. Never had that one before....

    ReplyDelete
  132. Re. the greenish tint on the leopard cardigan, could that be a defective item? I saw pictures of the cardigan of a fellow JCA and it looked fine. I am also awaiting mine. If it does come in greenish, I will return it.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Suilove - I just sent you an email!

    ReplyDelete
  134. could the tint be because of how the light hits the sequins when they are overlapping each other perhaps...

if anyone is planning on returning their leopard sequin cardi in either S or M, please let me know and i'll either buy it from the store or you! thanks so much!!

  135. suilove, I saw XS laeopard cardi on the site again today. Keep trying :)

  136. Dear JC Website,

I hate you today. There are all sorts of treasures that I thought were gone, but you have listed and I want them. Each time I try to add them, you shut down and give me that stupid message. Please stop.

  137. I called two other stores in MA, and they confirmed an extra 50% off fall/winter merchandise and 30% off spring. This seems to be consistent with the Copley store.

    ReplyDelete
  138. vic,

thanks for the reminder. i called cs and they told me that item was out of stock and they actually didn't have it....so if i were to order it online it would be cancelled...same with the onyx dress and the taffeta skirt=(

i'm talking to 2-3 JCAs who ordered it and said they're let me know if they return it, thanks so much, ladies!

    ReplyDelete
  139. OT. The other day I was complaining about how long it has been taking to get my J.Crew items shipped to me. Well, I placed and order on Sunday to take advantage of the free shipping. Well, according to UPS tracking it is out for delivery today. I thought if I am going to complain, I better compliment. Can't wait to get the package!

    ReplyDelete
  140. I want the last pair of carmel tall university pants damnit! Every time i go to try and check out i get the "Sorry" Screen!!!! I got so far as entering the EXTRA30 code, then froze then the sorry screen!

    ReplyDelete
  141. BTW, anyone ordered the Silver Cloud Cardigan? The tiny chiffon petals pills (or rather puke!!!) on me like crazy! I did get a lot of compliment on the cardigan but it was very embarrassing when I hugged a friend goodbye last night and left a pile of them on his coat! Whenever I move, they pill. I also saw some got to my dark color couch and carpet.

Anyone has similar issue or any remedies?

    ReplyDelete
  142. Suilove, hmmm, I just ordered the leopard two hours ago. They said they still had two. Guess my order probably would get cancelled as well? :(

    ReplyDelete
  143. suilove - my pleasure. I think my leopard cardi is arriving today around 1pm PST - I will let everyone know if it has the green tint to it.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Does anyone have the Giverny print Sydney dress? If so, what do you think of the item/fit?

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  145. Was the travel trench available in stores? and if yes has anyone seen one in the their local store in a 4?

    ReplyDelete
  146. I did a side by side comparison of the two pics, they are definitely different. I saved the screen shot, but I don't know how to attach it on here.

As a matter of fact, I saw this cardigan at the sample sale, for $99, and I remember thinking that it looked greenish, and different. I thought maybe those were made different, or defective... so I was hoping what I would receive in the mail was more like the pics from the site. Even my girlfriend thinks they look different from each other.

    ReplyDelete
  147. I just FINALLY managed to place my FS order...after three hours!!! Trust me, I complained in my survery when it was over. I got the wool rosette tank dress, the crawford blouse, and a few tanks. I hope it all ships! Does anyone have the crawford in the bright pink? I'm wondering about the color. I wanted the green, but it was out in my size.

    ReplyDelete
  148. hi ladies,
i had to give up some of my stuff i bought on FS that just aren't looking good on me. i put them on ebay. i lowered my prices if you guys want to take a look. i ship out fast! they end in 3 days.

    my username is ashylashy123

    thanks! :)

someone please - i need an intervention....i'm feeing postal!

  150. So frustrating. I was able to order only one pair of shoes today and then immediately check out. Since then I am unable to add anything to the shopping cart. The site times out every minute and then takes me back to the home page. By the time I get to the sale page and click on the item it starts timing out again. I see numbers of items going down and I don't understand how other people can check out when I cannot.

    ReplyDelete
  151. OK! I gave up. I called CS to complain theat since the site kept "updating", by the time I got to check out, my stuff was sold out. The rep could not care less!!! She said that items are not held for you just because they in your cart. What? MOST sites have at least a 30 minute hold. It's not MY fault I could not check out in a more timely matter. AND, if I was holding those jeans in my hand in a store and still looking around, no one would come snatch them from me....PPTHTHTHTHTH1!!!

    ReplyDelete
  152. Marietta, would you mind posting pics of your cardi? Now it makes me wonder if they mixed the sample sales items into the final sale...

    ReplyDelete
  153. Snow, several JCAs have commented that the camel University pants pill like crazy and they end up with fluff where their legs rub together. Perhaps you shouldn't stress over not being able to purchase...

    ReplyDelete
  154. Marietta,

Wow, I wonder if the samples are mixed in?

Sounds like you got a defective sweater...so sorry.

I hope mine comes OK but I am not holding out hope. I am wondering if the stuff JCrew is selling in now the defective dregs...sounds like it.

    ReplyDelete
  155. I highly doubt JCrew cares about people not being able to log on.

Case in point: their stuff is still selling like hotcakes online.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Marietta,

Are you going to keep the sweater even with the green tinge? Is it even pretty in any way?

Just wondering b/c I ordered one...

    ReplyDelete
  157. The site has crashed on me several times. I give up.

  159. Does anyone know how much the shortsleeve cardigans are in store? Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  160. To go through this crap everytime there is a good promo is not worth it, I will pay fp for something that I really want to avoid this major aggravation, however I will buy less clothes from them.

    ReplyDelete
  161. ^Last time I was at Pentagon City in DC (end of last week, I think) they were $49.50 + the extra 30% off. Hope that helps!

    ReplyDelete
  162. Chiffoncupcake - I will take pics tonight and upload them. How do I post them on here?

Anon @ 1:56 - while the cardi is still pretty, it was not what I was expecting, and at $129.99 + tax, not worth it for me to keep, because I am not in love with it! It just looks like they are slightly different, but enough for me to notice.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Has anyone been charged a higher sales tax for their online orders versus the B&M sales tax?

    ReplyDelete
  164. anon @ 2pm: Yesterday they were $49.99 plus 30% off. San Diego store had many sizes, colors. Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  165. Marietta, thanks! Hmmm, I actually don't know how to post pics here. Perhaps you can post it as your profile pic in dashboard?

    ReplyDelete
  166. Anon 1:52

Thanks! I know i know, but in the hast of the sale, and there only being one pair left, i felt the rush to hurry up and get them!
now that i have taken a step back, i have decided that the website just isn't worth me avoiding work to try and get a good deal on pants!

    ReplyDelete
  167. Maybe I'll just post the link to the album in kodakgallery.....

    ReplyDelete
  168. The higher sales tax may be because they now charge tax on the shipping charges. I noticed a change like this several months ago and finally figured out what they were doing. Calculate the tax on the entire purchase and cost of shipping and see if you get the same no. as what's on the packing label. If not, then I guess call and ask. Good luck.

    ReplyDelete
  169. confirming what smarty just said - San Diego store has those cardis. I bought one in Navy a few weeks ago and already wore it when teh weather in San Diego was about 75F. I like it a lot, but it was a little bit tight on my arms. I bought XS as I always do.

    ReplyDelete
  170. Thank you to all who posted about the short-sleeve cardigan! I was hoping they'd go on sale online but no luck today. I too found it tight on the arms when I tried it on a while ago.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Thought I may add a more positive note amid the website fiasco. I got all my FS items safe and sound in perfect condition 10 minutes ago. 4 of them were the last one in stock. There is still hope, hehe.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Are there any owners of Siena Print Calf Hair Driving Mocs in Cheetah on this blog? How do you like the shoes? Please share. Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  173. I have been charged 9.5% sales tax (with Free Shipping orders)online and at my B&M it is 8%. I have emailed and called. No resolution yet. This all started with the website update.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Chiffoncupcake, thank you for sharing! I've been getting FS items as well. I've received a Sean bag in dark cloud yesterday and it was still wrapped in paper and plastic and is absolutely new, not a return. It was a pleasant surprise. I am getting few more items today and hopefully I will get everything I ordered. I had only one problem lately - I've received a pair of pants instead of the driving mocs I wanted. The CS said there was nothing they could do because the item was not in stock anymore. The she asked me if there is something she can do to make me feel better about the loss and I asked to credit me the shipping charges for 3 orders I placed. The CS was very nice and helped me with that. I like JC customer service.

    ReplyDelete
  175. I have noticed the discrepancy in the sales tax ever since the (misguided) revamp last year. JC charges me 2% more when I order online than in the BM store. And more interesting, JC charges 6% higher tax than BR and Old Navy when I shop online. Go figure! They all ship to the same residential address here in CO. I have emailed JC sveral times but got the same standard answer - sales tax is automatically generated based on your location.

    ReplyDelete
  176. Oh, well. The Jcrew site has not been good to me today, but at least my beads came in the mail. Maybe I'll knock-off some Jcrew necklaces since I can't get anything ordered.

    ReplyDelete
  177. The watson pants are great! The luxe cord - beware. After one wash (without dryer), it's now one size bigger. I don't know what to do other than shrink it in the dryer.

Just snagged the last Leopard sequin cardi in XS with the EXTRA30. Not sure if it'd ship.

    ReplyDelete
  178. the watson pants are quite flattering, buti feel like they pants are soooo long. i am 5'7 and had to buy the "short" version.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Vic, congrats! (cheers)! Your CS was very nice indeed :) I am expecting the small oslo and a pair of sandals, both the last one in stock again (fingers and toes crossed). And speaking of shipping charges, I was just thinking JC probably makes a fortune on shipping alone, at least from me. I ordered nearly every day in the past week. My wanted items always appeared one at a time, at the oddest hours and at extremely low inventory. What are you going to do? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  180. Stacy: Agree with you. I ordered the petite and it was almost as long as the regular. I have to wear them with heels afterall.

    ReplyDelete
  181. If you ordered (and receive) the Leopard sequin cardi, could you post an update? I'm concerned about the greenish tint mentioned in this blog.

    ReplyDelete
  182. "Sales tax is automatically generated based on your location"? So they should investigate whether something is wrong with the automatic system!

    ReplyDelete
  183. I told them that there's something wrong with their system, but they won't budge. I even spoke to a manager but still didn't get the issue resolved. So why would BR and other retailers charge less tax than JC to ship to my address?

    ReplyDelete
  184. Many of your reference inventory volumes.....where is this information found?

    ReplyDelete
  185. Type in 99 in the quantity box and it'd show you how many is left

    ReplyDelete
  186. Put "99" pieces of an item to the shopping cart, and it'd show you how many is actually available for purchase.

    ReplyDelete
  187. My university pants pill in the crotch area. I have the camel color and every single time I sit down I notice. Then I hope no one notices me de-pilling my crotch.

Also, if I wear a jacket or cardi that hits at the hip--there will be some pilling where the fabrics rub.

    ReplyDelete
  188. Oh, if it allows you to do "99", add another "99" and if there are 150 items left, the second 99 will change to "51". This way you can add up the actual total items left in the inventory.

    ReplyDelete
  189. I don't think items are selling like hotcakes--I think their system is so screwed up, they gain and lose inventory constantly. I highly doubt that sweaters sell-out in sizes and then re-stock in the same quantities the very next day. That's what I've noticed on items I've stalked-constant inventory back-and-forth.

    ReplyDelete
  190. I'm beginning to suspect it's all a bait. Sell-out? Then why every morning there are more sizes and colors? Release a few pieces each morning and lure people in. "Snag" one "hot" item, and you don't mind paying for the shipping. Shipping charges are a big profit pool for J.Crew.

    ReplyDelete
  191. FYI: I just got back from a couple B&M stores in Southern CA. The Brea store had all sale merchandise at 50% off but it was really picked over, though they had several pink Astrid jackets (sizes 8 and 12 that I remember), a bazillion corduroy pants, and a couple Francie skirts (white) and double serge skirts (black) in larger sizes.

The South Coast plaza store had winter items for 50% off and 30% other sale stuff. There were a bunch of shoes, Kya camis, some short sleeve cardigans, and a bunch of suiting.

Between the two I snagged the peep-toe Ingrids in green for $43 (I sized down by the way), the Alessia peep-toes in root for $21 (sized up), and a black Madeline dress for $65!! And I'm crossing my fingers my academy cashmere sweater that I ordered online arrives. So now I'm done with you and your crappy website J Crew!!!

At least until that Editor tote goes on sale......

    ReplyDelete
  192. Your website sucks JCrew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  193. Anon @ 12:39,

I was at Easton last week. The sale selection was pretty picked over. They had a bunch of the short-sleeved cardigans, a few of the candy tees, but only XS and S, lost of high heeled flares in practically every size except 30" waist, 4 or 5 pair of shoes, nothing smaller than a 7, some long-sleeved cardigans (I'm not sure which ones as the colors didn't interest me), a small rack of dresses and several of the sa"fart" tees.

The nice thing about the trip was that they had a TON of the new spring stuff - none of wich I wanted bad enough to pay full price. But, it was nice to see it all.

It may have all changed by now, but I hope that helps.

    ReplyDelete
  194. Crud! I just realized that I was in such a rush to place my order while the website was working, I ordered the Dreamy Cotton pants in the wrong color! Now I'll have two of the same...at least they're comfy!

    ReplyDelete
  195. I feel like such a loser for wasting my time...after hours of trying to order and checkout, I still missed out on the one thing I really wanted - a high-waisted denim pencil skirt in size 0.

Does anyone know where I can get a pencil skirt like this (with the dark wash and in size 0) *anywhere*?? I am a little devastated.

    ReplyDelete
  196. Anon @ 12:39,

Easton also had some floppy flower pink astrid jackets, but I didn't check the sizes.
