J.Crew Private Sale Gets Extended {yey!}

"Thanks!" to Julie (in post "J.Crew Email Reminder: Private Sale Ends Today") who let us know that J.Crew's private sale (offering 20% off $175+ with promo code PRIVATESALEOCT) is being extended for one more day. The promotion is extended only online (not in stores).

  1. Perhaps they didn't move as much inventory as they had anticipated?

  2. FFM:

Yes, that was my thought exactly...and with the stock thing...time to get things movin'

  3. It would be nice if the sale hung around until the Holiday rollout.

  4. I bought a couple more things from the final sale, stuff that I hadn't seen before in my size (the Giverny skirt, Joelle blouse). Who thinks it's actually going to go through??? I'm thinking canceled like my warm ivory Trixie heels yesterday (so sad!!), but I'm crossing my fingers!

  5. I'm thinking the higher spending requirement and low percentage off didn't exactly spark a lot of excitement! For myself at least, it takes a much better deal for me to open my waller these days. I was close to placing an order a couple of times, and then backed off! There were a couple of things I looked for this morning in my size with no luck - so I'm done until Holiday stuff! (I do think my store had a few of the new holiday items out such as the tanks with a flower on them and a couple of the new coats) but nothing super thrilling IMO and no new catalogs yet ... may check back there today!

  6. Question-- if I order $175, and get 20% off and they end up canceling and item or two-- is the 20% off each item or is it off the total?

  7. OT: I got my new Boden catalog today....I couldn't believe how cute some of the stuff is...they must have a new designer...I was so impressed! There are 5 Holiday items I really really want!

  8. I went to my store and got 25% off final sale, with no minimum purchase.

That's why this promo isn't doing well, most stores are having better deals and people who don't live near b&m aren't tempted by the $175 min.

  9. FYI- J Crew website is down

  10. I ended up ordering the peacoat in plum for 151.20 plus tax (promotional store price plus 20% private sale coupon). However, my size is not set to ship until late November. I need to keep my fingers crossed!

  11. Would be nice if they offered free shipping along with the percentage off so online customers could reap the full benefits of the discount.

Let's see...with a minimum purchase of $175 excluding tax, shipping comes to $15.50. Twenty percentage off $175 is $35. Savings: $19.50.

A $19.50 savings does not stimulate me so much to spend, especially with the initial investment of $175....

  12. They may be doing this because Saks started their friends and family today. 20% off most items, 15% off cosmetics with code SaksFF1 + free shipping for orders over 150.00 w/code FREESHIP.

  13. Has anyone seen the Baird mcnutt in the flax color. The navy, flame and yellow is on sale for 19.99. Any thoughts about the color flame? Too bright? any style sugggestions? Can't make up my mind.

  14. I agree with FFM, the sale is going longer to empty out stock before new items arrive this Thursday. My PS told me new items arrive on line Thursday.

  15. Hi everyone! I'm a long time reader, but first time poster of this blog...

Thinking of getting the Frankie bag on final sale guave rhubarb (pinky peachy color). Has any one gotten this? Thoughts?

  16. Alexis,

I was wondering if you could set up a permanent "store-spotter" section on your blog? Other Aficionadas could leave comments in this section about which stores are offering promotions that cannot be found online. Although Aficionadas do kindly post this information often, most times I have to comb through mountains of other messages in disparate sections before finding posts about in-store promotions or discounts.

Store promotions seem to be far more generous than online promotions, at least lately. I, and other Aficionadas, live very, very far from any J.Crew store. And, unless we read in your blog that stores (or a particular store) are offering an exceptional promotion, we have no way of finding out. (Since stores do ship merchandise, I often buy from them rather than the website.)

    Thanks for considering this request.

    Vivi

Sorry for the duplication. I posted this in another message topic, but I think it got buried under all the other posts. :)

  17. I spoke with a manager from a B/M store. J.Crew is planning an "ultra-aggressive" holiday and post holiday sales push. This will include significant push post Thanksgiving and after Christmas. I asked if 30-50% was out-of-line and she said "no" - we'll see.

  18. Man, they're trying really hard to rid of their current inventory.

Can I ask what store has plum peacoat on promo? How much was the promo price (did they actually have the plum in the store or just peacoat on promo in general??)

That is a much better savings than I got and would love to price match. Seems store to store should certainly be the same but apparently it is not.

  20. Re: plum peacoat. The store I went to in Chicago had peacoats with thinsulate (ivory and black in store) on promotion for 189.

  21. prettypink - I own the Baird mcnutt in all colors. I got them at various prices, but not as low as they are today. I wore the flax colored one with the Lydia blouse in bright rhubarb and dark chocolate matchsticks.

The bright flame is a difficult color to describe. It's not exactly orange. I'd say it's like bright rhubab, but more orangey than pink. It comes across on the web as red and it's not. Deeep bright coral would be another good way to describe it and again more pink orange than orange. The fit and versatility are great, imo so don't agonize too much since the price is so low. It's very well made and the linen texture is not obvious so I will be wearing it through Fall.

  22. FYI, final sale is back to additional 30% off in stores as of today.

  23. I love this blog :)
This is my very 1st post. Here's what I got with the 20% discount.

    Solid Kelly Shirt
1 in Black and 1 in White

    Perfect-fit scoopneck tee
1 in black and 1 in White

Vintage slim selvedge jean in cowgirl vintage wash

Perfect leather flats - in Black

With the 20% off the average price per item was $65 (not including shipping) - which I think is great!
In your opinions - how do you think I did?
I needed some basics (and we all know those never really go on sale).
Also - has anyone tried the JCrew jeans? I'm a Citizen's of Humanity fan but wanted to try something new. . .

  24. Vivi: That is a great suggestion. I will definitely create a "store spotter" section soon. :)

  25. I second the suggestion that they might not have moved as much inventory as they expected. I used it, but just to buy a new winter coat, which I have been meaning to buy for at least a year or two now. I also went into the store and ordered it from the phone, as even with 20% off one of their heavy winter coats, the savings would still be significantly negated by their expensive shipping.

  26. Here's an example of someone mentioning something very helpful to save money on this blog--promo on peacoat-now I can price match-yea! Thank you:) I don't think they should have ANY discrepancy among stores let alone the website. I know ALL are in favor!

  27. I have been on a J.Crew fast and was hoping that the private sale temptation was over. Willpower, please don't fail me now...

    ReplyDelete
  28. What items do you think j. crew is carrying at high inventory levels? I seem to be reading many people wanting to order something and they're out of the size or product, like the rose tee.

    ReplyDelete
  29. FFM (and others): When I saw that the private sale had been extended that exact same thought ran through my mind, "the didn't move as much inventory as they had anticipated!" LOL.

  30. OT: Last winter jcrew had a fleur de lis necklace that i was in love with... anyone have one they do not wear? i will be happy to take it off your hands... or neck!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yes--and my hunch on "one more day" instead of a few more days has to do with not wanting all the new stuff out with a promo. Often the full price buyers buy it brand spanking new and don't mind nor pay attention to paying full price. It's a drop in the bucket.
It cracks me up the store I go to is (in one of the wealthiest areas in my state.) I listen to these women not realizing things are even on final sale and being surprised when they are given the option at the register to take it with 20% off or not based on final sale. They often know nothing about the private sales etc. J Crew LOVES these people. I, on the other hand am watching while they ring it up.."Oh, did you get the extra 20% off of that" and "I do get 20% off the total, right?" LOL!! It's the only reason I can buy as much as I do--persistent bargain shopper--and it's fun:)

  32. I am exercising self control. I am really proud of myself because I was excited when I saw the email but glad I didn't cave. I am going to wait a little bit for new items and maybe markdowns on some others. Other matchstick cord colors, please!

In other news, the novelty sweaters were still at $88 today. And I saw a cute short slv collarless tee with sequins at the placket. About 4 inches worth and they are matte. The tee comes in about 4 colors and is $45.

I also saw the cute tank w/the chiffon rosette. That is so cute! I'm wondering how it would look over a tissue turtleneck. It definitely seems like a spring/summer item. Or maybe you're just supposed to have it under a cardi and reveal halfway through drinks when you meet a cute guy that comes by. I'm married, but I remember the days...

    ReplyDelete
  33. My self control fell apart today when I saw this shirt and had to have it. I kinda like the red. I'm loving wearing plaid after not having it for years in my closet.

  34. gigiofca: I laughed when I read your comment about the tank and the guys brings back memories.

I like the idea about pairing the tank and the tissue tee, I gues it will depend on matching up the colors.

  35. anon - I tried to do a price match on the plum peacoat. CS called both stores in Chicago, and found out that each store is selling the coat at different prices, both of which were more than the online price! So, where and how did you find your deal? I've already ordered, I'm just curious. TIA
