Domino Magazine Features J.Crew's Jenna Lyons!

"Thanks!" to Catherine who shared with us that J.Crew's creative director Jenna Lyons will be featured on the cover (and a story) in the next issue of Domino magazine. I subscribe to the magazine and can't wait to get my issue in the mail. (The article will be shared once I either find it online or get it in the mail.) :)

UPDATE: "Thanks!" to Anon at 8:32PM who found the video to Jenna Lyon's story in Domino. Click here to view the video. You have to check out Jenna's closet too! :)

I have to say that Jenna looks great on this cover. Let's face it- she always looks great! :)

  1. a bit dated,

but the article gives an idea into Ms. Lyons's life.

it'll be nice to compare it to the coming Domino one.

  2. I wonder if maybe this is a way that JC is laying the foundation for a future foray into the home textiles market. It wouldn't surprise me, as many other designers have done exactly that. Hmmm...JC towels, sheets, etc. What do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Jenna-

You would look great in blue. Or green. Or crimson. Or black. Seriously, does she ever wear anything that's not coral, yellow, or orange?

    ReplyDelete
  4. anon at 203pm: That's an interesting thought. Sort of like an Anthropologie, that sells clothes / home decor / way of life all in one?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Okay I want the pants or skirt she is wearing. I am guessing it is NOT jcrew though?!

I could see a very interesting foray into Jcrew Home...they already are attempting it with the dog care items.

  6. I'm not too sure who the press agent is for J.Crew, but theya re definitely on the ball.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Looks like a dress, actually...and orange is her favorite color. hence..the outfit and bedding. Don't we all have a favorite color--sheesh.

    ReplyDelete
  8. can anyone figure out exactly what she is wearing on the cover????

    ReplyDelete
  9. It looks like a Maxi-Dress with a cardigan over it...what do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  10. I would agree with FFM, and I would guess the cardi at least is J Crew. I think she looks stunning in these bright colors.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'm guessing the cardi is jcrew too, but I can not place that dress for the life of me! Thanks for the help FFM and kitsmommy!

  12. It looks like the Cashmere Schoolgirl Cardigan in Bright Saffron. Here is the link to the cardigan: Click Here . You might have to click on the shade to see it. :)

  13. The link went straight to the Bright Saffron...YAY!! :)

  14. OT- I went to the new Marietta,GA store today and they had chiffon rose tees in black and champagne as well as the navy chiffon stripe cardigan in many sizes- and the cardigan was on sale for $$88!!!! I was so excited!! The have already had a couple of calls for the tee so if you want one you'd better act quickly!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Crewbie...I scored one of the Rose Tees!!!! A thousand blessings to you. Thanks for looking out for your fellow Aficonadas!!!

  16. I am laughing because the SA is on the phone with me says he has xs and sm in both black and white tee but after he goes to pick them up another sales associate has nabbed them for another phone customer (I wonder which ones of you are getting those black ones right now-he,he,he:) Report back!
    Thanks Crewbie!

  17. Crewbie--hoe does the cardi run size wise??
I never had a chance to try it but loved it! Is is true--or big/small.
Thank you so much for spreadin the love!

  18. I went to my local store today (Walnut Creek) and they had about half of the new items out. No Maggies (found out they are online only) and some Carries in heather acorn, but not my size, - which I am personally obsessing over. There were only a few things that I LOVED (and had to buy)... they had really cute belts with two little silk (?) roses on them - they came in black (grey and black roses), brown (brown and pink roses) and yellow (yellow and cream roses). Super cute. They also had outstanding ring spun t-shirts! I was kind of in a hurry so I bought up one of each, just in case... In the champaign color tee they two silk or taffeta flowers sewn on flat on the upper right chest. The flowers were also in the champaign color. Also in champaign with a silk/taffeta bow in champaign. Then in grey with the silk taffeta bow sewn flat in dark grey. LOVED them! But alas, I think the best things will come out tonight. There was no new jewelry and only one new coat (Margaret I think?). The new ruffle blouses were out and I don't know, seeing them in person, they didn't do anything for me.

The strange thing is I had my PS try to order the Maggie for me from the red phone and they do not have MANY of the new items available yet through the phone center. The CS was very upset and was trying to figure out why she couldn't order the new items now that the catalog is officially out. (I felt like I should soothe her and tell her not to worry, this has been my experience with JC for months now... it will all be ok... See, look how much I've grown with all of the system upgrade fiascos!)

  19. I think the cardi runs pretty TTS. I got a medium, but a small would have been fine. I want to wear it over an button down.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Crewbie-thanks me too so what size blouse do you wear in J crew and what size jackie do oyu buy? Thanks again SO MUCH I really want this sweater!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I am usually a 4 or 6 in blouses/shirts. I hope you get your cardi!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I LOVED IT WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT AND DIDN'T ORDER (WAITING FOR A COUPON) AND IT WAS GONE--NOW IT'S MINE THANKS TO YOU:)
I know we all appreciate your sharing:)

    ReplyDelete
  23. I also tried on some of the new stuff today! I almost forgot because I was so excited about the tees & cardi.
I LOVED the ruffled Victoria button down blouse in the black stripe!! I tried on the button collared merino cardi and it has very baggy sleeves. I would size down on it. I liked the darker color, acorn?,better than the champagne color. The bows are very flat and not as stiff as I thought they might be.
They also had some of the sparkle tweed skirts. Wasn't there an afficionada looking for a certain size??

    ReplyDelete
  24. Covert5: You are very welcome! I believe in Karma!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. crewbie: I am looking for the Sparkle Plaid Skirt in a size 4...any of them there? Also, how did the Victoria shirt run?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Thank you so much for sharing this, I can't wait til my new issue of Domino arrives.

I could definitely see J Crew venture into the home decor realm - especially for textiles like duvets and sheets as their clothes always have such unique colors and patterns. And they could test it easily as a catalog-only thing.

  27. The new merchandise is fabulous. Does anyone know when the new merchandise becomes available online? As of this morning, none of it was. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  28. FFM: They had quite a few of the skirts, so I would call. The Victoria shirt ran pretty TTS. I wanted a slim fit (because this shirt is so cute under cardigans), so I got a 4. (I am a 34C if that helps!)

    ReplyDelete
  29. crewbie: Was it the new Marietta store? I called and the SA said they don't have any. I am looking for the Green one with yellow, black, and purple plaid...are those the ones you saw?

Thanks for the info on the Victoria, btw... :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. crewbie-
At first I wasn't sure what you were talking about with regard to Victoria in black and white stripe as I am obsessing over the silk Victoria so I was confused for a minute. Did you buy that shirt? They decided to have a Victoria in both cami and long sleeve...two totally different ruffly shirts. So you saw the black and white stripe long sleeve version as shown in the new catalog under the cable cardi?! Are those ruffles divine?? Did you see the silk cami version too? I also wonder which cardi with button collar is??Do you know the page in the catalog?
FFM-that sparkle plaid may be the black--there is a new black one out for holiday. I think you are seeking the green (now sale one) correct? I tried this black one on at my store it didn't fit me right.
    MACK-
I am very curious about the Cammie cardi with the silk chiffon flowers--does it come in both heather acorn AND the heather chalk (creme) color? That is unclear in the catalog--they show the clou pailette version in heather chalk (cream color) but then there are both colors in the blocks below. So unclear if chiffon florette will come both ways-love the look of it though!

Which t-shirt did you decide you like best? I bought the champagne with champagne roses during private sale.

  31. FFM: I remember two skirts. One was on a mannequin, pencil style, and it was plaid tweed with black, yellow, green, and it definitely had sparkle. The other skirt was black with a very subtle silver shimmer. I think that is the platinum tweed? Maybe customer service could do a search for you on it. Maybe their inventory is searchable now?? Good Luck! I really hope you find it! Sorry I can't be of more help!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Covert5: Yes, I am in search of the Green Sparkle Plaid Tweed Skirt, in a size 4...item #96176 seen Here.

    ReplyDelete
  33. crewbie: Thanks! Maybe the SA didn't realize there was one on the mannequin...I wonder what size it was?

    ReplyDelete
  34. covert5: The Victoria comes in a cami and a long sleeve. They did not have the cami - (and they only had the black stripe in the shirt.). The long sleeve comes in black or camel stripe, and solid black or white. The shirt is all cotton and the ruffles are great! It says dry clean only on the tag and I think that is because of the ruffles. It is a great shirt! I tried it on with a pair of jeans and because its cotton it looks great together. It could also go great with a pencil skirt, suit jacket or with chinos/cardi like the catalog! I think the stripe is more casual looking than a solid black/white would be.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thanks for letting us know about the article! I love Domino.

A CS rep told me the new stuff should be online today (about gone!) or tomorrow. I think the site updated last month on a Fri. so here is hoping!

    ReplyDelete
  36. crewbie: In the catalog pic online the Victoria in blk/white stripe appears almost gray...is the black a true black IRL or more muted?

    ReplyDelete
  37. FFM: I used your link and I am 95% positive that is the one on the mannequin! Call again and ask them to check!! If I remember correctly it was mid store, next to another mannequin and there was a cardi/shirt on top. :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. FFM: Re the Victoria: Its a little muted. I thought it was navy at first. You have to look hard to tell its black.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Thanks for the article!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. OMG FFM! if by some weird chance it's a 10 instead of a 4 let me know, because you've got me wanting one too, and I called and they said they didn't have any!!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ok...I called back and was told again that they don't have the skirt...not even on the mannequin...bummer...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Just some insider knowledge for FFM, mannequins usually are wearing size 4 (TTS, if the size on the item was inflated, maybe not). I used to dress them at another store. So good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anon @8:27: THANKS for the info! The one I tried on at my store in August was off of the mannequin, and it was a size 4...that's good information to know. Thanks again! :)

  46. Out of curiosity, is anyone else still waiting for their new catalog to arrive?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Went to the Michigan Ave, Chicago store today. They have a lot of new items out (when you walk in, it's like hello pink!). They have a couple of new coats out - the Carrie and the Madeline. If you weren't a fan of the deep persimmon lady day coat but want a warm reddish tone, you'll love the dark poppy color. I'm definitely trading the deep persimmon I just received today for the dark poppy - it's a really beautiful color. They also have the camel Kate dress and a bunch of new skirts and sweaters. No Maggie jacket though - as someone noted, turns out it's catalog/online only.

As for FS (30% off in the store), they have a ton of dress shirts like the twisted placket ones, sweater dresses, and velvet ecole jackets in pony brown (apparently only available in the stores - I didn't even know the jacket came in that color) and sweet papaya. All wellies are also 30% off, and it looked like they had an accessory sale going on too.

  48. CeeCee- I bought the polka-dot scarve for full-price yesterday, so not on final sale yet (at least as of yesterday at pentagon city, va store!)

    ReplyDelete
  49. roxy: I'm waiting for my new catalog too! :)

  50. audball: It's a bummer that you're waiting too, but at least I'm not the only one. Thank you.

  51. I would agree that it sure looks like J Crew is setting the stage for a move into home goods- I would love some new options!
OT-I was in Minneapolis today for some meetings and visited one of my new favorite JC stores at Southdale- I always try to check out JC stores when I travel and also try to hit the ones with Crewcuts. Possibly the best bunch of SA's I have ever met-wow! I tried on a lot of the new jewelry- LOVE the Crystal Garden bracelets, love the satin rosette belts-very fun. Although I loved the Victoria Ruffle shirt in the catalog, I did not love it on? It also seemed to run really small- I would size up. They had a TON of the Lizzie Metallic leather Driving Mocs- in silver-$69 +30%- just in case anyone is looking for these. I was told that more new items will be on the floor on Monday.

  52. Does anyone own the Gracie dress? I have 4 weddings to attend next year so I'm starting to look for dresses, since I can never find them when I really need them. The Gracie is cute but looks like it could fit weird if you are not stick thin and since its online/catalog only, I can't exactly go into a store to try it on. Any info on the dress would be greatly appreciated TIA!

  55. Some quick comments on the Palo Alto CA store as of this afternoon:

New items (didn't try any on - short trip and most price point a bit high):

Victoria Long sleeved blouse in black (muted) stripe- cute and casual (don't think it would work under a nice suit- better to wear like in the catalog w a sweater) - the dry clean might be because the ruffles are raw edged and would fray otherwise

Victoria sleeveless blouse- navy, cream, black and brown - nice fabric, wonder how ironing would be since it's like a double ruffle collar

A few new skirts - cream w gold sparkle mini w 6 buttons, black plaid same style, longer pencil black sparkle - looked TTS or recommend to size up one size

The tie neck silk tuxedo blouse in gray, navy, black - cute but not tdf

Lots of new tees ( but no rose tee sorry)

Sale section : gold, yellow and green candace 109.99; lots of ecoles and fionas, lots of cords, abstract rose flannel wool dress (got this one, after sold out in my size online - yays!) and soirée coated canvas bags still 30% addtl off. Also purple 120s dress and many wool trousers.

The store was completely out of the new catalog... I guess it will be a while before I see a hard copy. Nice to see the cute wool skirts and new blouses, even though nothing was too tempting besides the Kandinsky print dress.

  56. Has anyone tried on the new ringspun cotton silk-applique critter tee? Is it TTS? Very tempted to get all of the colours :-p

The staff at the St. Paul and Bloomington (Mall of America) store are also excellent! (There is only one lady at MOA that I don't care for) Anyway, Aaron is great at MOA. I got to see him this summer when I went home but did not make it to Southdale. MOA had things for the whole family and now has Crewcuts and jewelry too:)

  61. Alexis,

Can you please tell me something about Domino Magazine? I might get a subscription...

    Thanks.

    Julie

    ReplyDelete
  62. Hi Julie! I started getting the Domino mag subscription a 4-5 months ago but I had been reading it in Barnes & Noble for longer. (Incidentally, eBay sells super cheap magazine subscriptions.)

Domino magazine is a "quick read". Unlike my Entertainment Weekly (which takes me hours to read everything, cover to cover), this magazine takes less than a half an hour to look through. There are some interesting articles on how to redesign an area, or jazz up a furniture piece- but nothing extraordinary. There hasn't been an issue I saved so far.

I actually like Martha Stewart's Blueprint Magazine more, (better stories, better ideas for styling and decorating) but I thought that subscription was too expensive and opted for a Domino subscription instead.

I hope this all helps! :)

  63. Alexis,

  65. Hi, Julie! I've been reading Domino for about 3 years and just love it! I don't always save them, but I often rip pages out and have purchased items shown. They do a great job of having high and low end pieces - great for inspiration. They also feature many settings - in and out door settings of various living situations of individuals (singles, couples, at various ages). I say try a year subscription - I just renewed mine. :)

  66. Thanks, Sweetmint! I like your username:)

I was thinking of giving it a try for something different to look at/read.
