Dear FFM: Help Put Together A J.Crew Outfit For Me

FabulousFloridaMommy (FFM) regularly guest blogs on outfits she creates with items that you, the members, request. :)FFM has done it yet again! A big "thank you!" to FFM, who has created a fabulous outfit for almost every single request in the "Dear FFM: Help Put Together A J.Crew Outfit For Me" post!

FFM writes:
I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you once again to Alexis for asking me to Guest Blog, and to thank all the Aficionadas/Aficionados who have submitted requests, posted compliments, and offered their support to me as I have done this each week…you are all FABULOUS!!!

Also, if you have previously submitted a request that wasn’t created and would still like to have one made…please resubmit and let me know that it was a prior request, and I will put it at the top of my list for this week.

Thanks again everyone!

Sincerely, FabulousFloridaMommy

Are there any items from J.Crew (that you either own or are thinking about getting) that you would like FFM to create outfit ideas. Feel free to include additional info like: the climate/season you want to wear the item/outfit, as well as age bracket/lifestyle. :) After a few days, FFM will select a few items (from the feedback) to create a couple of Polyvore outfits with those items (which will then be posted for all).

What J.Crew pieces do you often wonder how to use in an outfit? What J.Crew items would you like to see an outfit created for (please include item name or item number)? Do you have any J.Crew items in your closet that you are unsure how to style with? Please, let us know! :)

  1. FFM,

Always a pleasure to look at your sets :) I'm getting lots of good ideas for color combination from your sets!

Could you create sets with Jamie jacket in navy?

Thank you so much in advance :)

  2. I just ordered the Silvie Dress in Honey Glaze. I'm trying to find ways to tone down/offset all the yellow. I'd like to see your suggestions, especially with regards to indoor wear that I can pair with the dress.

    Thanks so much! :)

  3. FFM, Would you please do a set with Tartine cardigan in maize and/or Jewel-button cardigan in silver camel. I'm in my late-20's and would most likely wear them casually with jeans. If you have time to do a set for the office that would be great too. Thanks so much!!

  4. Faaantabulous! I love so many of them. :-)

  5. beautiful! i ordered the coated canvas bag in dark cloud because of your "Seize Il Giorno" set a while back ; ) FFM, you would make an awesome PS, but it's even *more* fab that you do this out of fun and the spirit of the blog - thank you!

have you done a set with the jcrew leather opera gloves in black or the mathilda dress in plum? i love those but am not sure how to get them more time out of my closet!

  6. Love all the outfits, as usual. :)

Can you help create outfits for my weekend trip to LA? I think we're going to a club one night and to watch Wicked the other, then just casual shopping in between. So far I'm packing my grey V-neck slub (item 94834), matchstick jeans in deep indigo (item 98546), and high-heel flares in indigo (96949). I'm 24 and wear jeans pretty much all the time, if that helps! Thank you!

  7. Hi, Looking for 2 different casual ways to wear the blue watercolor school girl skirt...the blue rose pattern one. Thank you....I can't wear over 1" heels by the way with my back problem:( but I am 5'9 so that doesn't really matter....Thank you very much for your time:)

  9. Dear FFM,
Just wanted to thank you for fulfilling my request for the black suit combos. They are incredible! You have excellent taste and I can’t wait to start dressing up.
    Thanks again,

  10. FFM, I have the paintbrush floral skirt and I love the sets that you have done with it. Hope you can help with one question....I need to wear some type of hosiery with this skirt (office requirement)...if I wear it with black boots or high heeled Mary Janes...what are your suggestions? I saw when you paired it with brown you used brown tights...would the same hold true with black? You are awesome (as are your sets!), thanks for the help!

  11. Thank you so much for the Trixie set FFM! I think that Quincy hobo might find a home with me very soon...

  12. Thanks everyone! So glad you are still enjoying my sets! :)

Jane: Regarding hosiery...black tights will definitely work, as will flesh-tone or nude. HTH!

  13. Hi FFM,

I just LOVE all of your outfits - they are such an inspiration!

Could you create a casual chic outfit around the color Bright Rhubarb?

I am completely in love with this color. I have purchased the cashmere short sleeve tee in Bright Rhubarb and I'll take anything in that color I can get my hands on!

    Thanks so much!!

  14. Superb as usual, FFM!!! :)

If you have time, would you mind doing a business casual outfit with the lydia in orange? I am 28 and work in Washington, DC so it's getting a little more chilly now.

    Thank you so much!

  15. FFM, I have the fontana dress in black with ivory polka dots. I wore it once with red heels and pearls to a wedding, but I'd like some other ideas for this dress. I'd especially appreciate ideas that would help transition this dress into fall and that might be (non-corporate) work appropriate.

Thanks! I can't wait to see your ideas!

  16. I love your sets and am looking forward to seeing what you will do with the Holiday rollout! It can't come fast enough for me!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Love these. I have a pair of the aubergine cords, and I am having so much trouble pairing colors with it (black looks too faded, navy and white are pretty boring, etc). I'd love to see what you could do!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Simply divine, FFM!

Some of my faves from this collection are: French Stripe Tie Jacket Casual Chic, Penelope Mary Janes in Silver Yellow Looks #1 and #2, Gold Dot Annette Blouse Casual Chic Look #1, Blue Starlet Professional, Gianna Blouse Casual Chic, and Whisper Lame' Slim Shirt in Shell Professional.

Also, the The Academy Pant For A Night Out is a great idea. It never occured to me to wear navy with my sweet potato academy pants. I especially like the turquoise accents. Would you wear the tee tucked in or hanging out? If tucked in, would you wear a belt?

You're the best! Keep the sets coming!

    ReplyDelete
  19. FFM - thanks for answering the hosiery question! Jane

    ReplyDelete
  20. Thanks 3-Penny Princess! Regarding the Academy Pant for A Night Out...the look in my set is for the shirt to be untucked. I think that depending on a woman's bodytype and comfort level, the shirt can also be tucked in and worn with the accessories I have shown. A belt is also an option, but I would then suggest removing the necklace and wearing bold earrings instead. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I just love your sets, FFM! Great work (as always).

I was wondering if you could create some "colorful" sets. I have a tendency to buy everything in black or neutrals. I feel it is high time I branched out and incorporated more color into my life. I like jewel tones the best - but I am sure whatever you come up with will be stunning!

  22. Hey FFM,

would you mind trying something with this jacket (for guys). Being a poor college student I really don't find the cardigan look one that I can pull off too often. If you have any other suggestions I'd appreciate it.

  25. FFM,

i have the kelsey sweater dress in blk, can you recommend some ways it can be worn wtih tights and boots? it gets cold in toronto during winter.

    thanks so much.

on a side note, i'm wearing the vintage fleece bloatneck in light pewter today with cropped theory dress pants and the turtle necklace and a pair of silver flats. for anyone considering the vintage boatneck, you should get it, it's a comfortable piece that looks great and can be worn with dress pants and skirts (as seen in the catalogue with the buttercup belle). it is an really awsome piece.

  26. Anonymous October 14, 2008 1:00 PM:

If you have time...please review the fit of the Kelsey dress. I've been wanting it but don't want to fool around with FS.

Is it clingy, is it cut straight, does it fit true to size, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  27. tigs: I think the Kelsey dress fits TTS. I am usually a xs in JC dresses and that is what I bought in the Kelsey. I have a slightly pear body shape. I plan on wearing it with tights and a black tissue turtle neck. Hope this helps!

    ReplyDelete
  28. sooner_girl: Thanks for the feedback. I want to wear it the same way you described but I am interested in buying the black dress. I have a sweater dress (except it's ribbed at the top & 100% wool with long sleeves) that I purchased from Boden last year. It has a bit of a 'hanging' feeling & is itchy so I only wore it one time. This is affecting my perception of the Kelsey dress.

It appears there are at least 99 available in Small so I will stalk it a little while longer to see if it gets marked down. Thanks again.

    ReplyDelete
  29. hi tigs,
the kelsey dress is quite nice, albet a little coarser than i expected, for some reason i always thought it was cashmere. the fit is not very clingy and you can definitely fit a blouse underneath, i'm an xs and i bought the blk in xs. good luck stalking, i'm sure on ewill pop up soon enough. i think if the price ever drops low enough i'd consider buying the grey as well, it's quite a classic/basic piece imo.

  30. Can you possibly create a pink / yellow combination? I don't have anything too specific in mind, I just want to see if they go together. :)

    Great job as always, FFM!

    ReplyDelete
  31. FFM, love everything, as always!

I am an attorney at a firm that wants us to wear suits every day. I can get away with wearing separates, as long as they are not too crazy (as far as color and pattern). Thus, as much as I love your "for the office looks," I cannot wear many of them to work because many of them contain patterned shoes or very bright colored jackets.

When I dress casually, I love to mix jackets and pants, in all different colors and textures, but for some reason, it's hard for me to mix things for work.

I was wondering if you could put a couple outfits together that involve business separates in a more conservative fashion. Color and patterns are ok, just maybe more muted colors and smaller patterns. I have no specific pieces I'd like you to work around, though I do own a few jcrew suits from the last year or so that can be worn into the fall and winter: prima stretch in navy pinstripe and charcoal, and Wool crepe in chocolate. I also have a couple bella jackets. I need to buy some more winter business-y clothes, so please incorporate any other ideas of this season's pieces!

    Thanks!

  32. Great sets!! FFM, can you create some looks with the sketchbook roses belle skirt? I've paired it with basic black and white tee-shirts tucked in, but I want to be adventurous with color and I want to do it right! I love your style!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Anon-10:44 sorry I had to chime-CHARCOAL IS AWESOME:) Can't wait to see what FMM does though. Your sets are wonderful!

I ran over to see about the jackie shell in xs or sm but only mediums. Bummer--I can go with silky pleated honey glaze, though it won't be as warm:) Thank you again!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I echo Lauren -- I'm also an attorney and can't get away with anything too crazy at work. However, I'm lucky enough not to have to wear suits every day. Can I request a couple of work appropriate outfits that involve the pencil skirts? I have the serge pencil in everything except the blue since it's the perfect amount of dressy, along with the yellow Italian boucle, sparkle plaid tweed, and some suit skirts. Blouses, jackets -- anything you can suggest to go with them.

Also, Melanie, I was just looking at some pink/yellow combinations on polyvore! Check these out - most are even by FFM

  35. What a boon. :) Thanks for the links, kitchy7! And for FFM and others, who created them.

Most seem to feature the shade of yellow, honeyglaze. I am planning a wedding and was thinking of doing pink dresses with yellow accents throughout the wedding (flowers, cake, etc.). Yellow is my favorite color but a hard color for all skin tones to pull off. I like the idea of something like this for the dresses. Is soft butter yellow a good compliment to all of these colors or should I go bolder? See, in my mind, that looks great ... but it could just be in my imagination! ;)

I thought it time I asked you when I am best going to be able to get the boucle skirt--you seem to see it every time it pops up and I end up missing it because I get the message 2 hours later! I appreciate you watching out for me--do you think it is there a certain time of day or it really just hit or miss?
Also--does it run TTS--I need prob 2 but would do sz 4. I swear if someone was willing to trust me and saw and bought it for me I would pay them that's how bad I want it:) I see you have it--am I over excited about it or is it really that great?? I am starting to wonder about myself:)

  41. Melanie -- I think soft butter would be beautiful, but I also think you could even go brighter if you want. Maybe the color of daisies? Either way, it's going to be so pretty!

  43. FFM,

I don't need an outfit on Polyvore, but am wondering what colors to wear with my Rhubarb Andrea jacket. Besides neutrals (navy, black, white, brown, etc), are there any colors you would put with this jacket? Of course, I can't wear the mustard yellow which would go great! Thanks for any ideas - I love your fasion advice

  44. Covert5: I plan to wear my Black San Telmo with the Pleated Tissue Tank in Honey Glaze seen Here , and also with a Honey Glaze Turtleneck. So if you can't find a Jackie Shell, maybe one of these will work for you, too! HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  45. kitchy7: I have created sets with almost all of the skirts you have mentioned, so when you get the chance please look through my sets. I will also style a couple more this week. :)

  46. kitchy7-
Oh--you da bomb if you can snag it for me! Do you usually call orders in--I would like to get the add'l 30% off sale if at all possible but if necessary I will ask my store to credit me or figure out something so that it doesn't trouble you to much! I just want it:)
BTW-is it TTS and is it worth my excitement in fit and style?!

    THANK YOU!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. FFM-
Thank you--duh, I guess just seeing that piece with a couple things i have made me think I needed it. I can certainly look for honey glaze turtle or if they have the Tissue T-neck that would be great! Not sure--gotta check that out!

Have you done Gianna in chocolate or Hayden in charcoal grey or something differnt with plum berry astrid?

I am casual-jeans on the weekend for sat night party or dinner-I a 40.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Anon @8:40 or *Covert5* (I think):I have done sets for all of the Berry Astrid Jackets, a set for the Chocolate Gianna (a dressier one), but not for the Hayden...do you have the item number for it?

    ReplyDelete
  49. THANK YOU SO MUCH for your ideas and for fulfilling my request.. I am off to the website to purchase the rest of the items for a night on the town in orange pants!

  50. Argyle: I've never seen the Rhubarb Andrea in person, so I'm not sure of the exact color, but here are my suggestions based on the color of my Rhubarb Lydia: I would pair it with Bright Blue, Light Pink, Kelly Green, or the Regal Purple Joelle Blouse. Dark Gray is also really pretty, even though it is more of a neutral. :) Give those colors a try, and let me know what you think. My favorite is the Rhubarb and Bright Blue...I am actually going to wear my Rhubarb Lydia with my Bright Blue Jackie Cardigan. :)

    THANKS!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. FFM,

Thanks so much - those are all wonderful ideas. I've got the dark slate tissue turtle neck that will look good. I do have some light pink shirts. I'll have to get something in the bright blue color, I like that idea.

    Thanks so much!!

  55. FFM-
Thank you for offering--I have looked again at your fabu sets and gotten some great ideas.

Casual chocolate Gianna blouse--something different but still with jeans or trousers

The Hayden jacket (item 89492) is NO WHERE to be found on the internet so not sure what to think on that but there really isn't a lot of unusual ways to style it given that it is just a merino double knit blazer, slightly swingy, double breasted charcoal grey 3/4 sleeve. I decided I am going to STOP buying double breasted as I do not like that one cannot see what's underneath:) You just see the jacket and it can make wearing it multiple ways a chore. Maybe you see the slight pop of color out the bottom or top (T-neck:) I am adding one of my silk flowers to give it a different look on the outside and of of course varying jewelry helps. Have a great day!

    ReplyDelete
  56. FFM - I love all that you create! I just bought a grey sweater dress #97052 --- Would you please create a casual chic outfit using the grey sweater dress - as I am a mom of four and want to look chic!

    Thanks

  62. Dear FFM,

    Previous request:

    1. I have the cashmere argyle ruffle sweater in honey graphite gold (Item 90566). I LOVE the color and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the sweater but I am not sure what to wear it with. I wore it with a white tee underneath and vintage jeans similar to the J Crew ones (92222) and gold flats but that's pretty much the only combination I came up with (I'd prefer not to wear it with skirts)

    2. Flamenco dot popover blouse 94196 ( casual chic as usual)

    New request:

1.Luxe knit gathered tee (item 97245) in honey glaze-casual chic :)

    2. dream shirred tunic sweater in snow (casual chic)

    Thank you! :)
