Darlings, is it time for a J.Crew coupon code?

Yes, it is that wonderful time again! :)

A big "thanks!" to Five Tomatoes who let us know (in the post "J.Crew Potential Promos & Sales Coming Soon)") that J.Crew is offering 10% off orders with promo code RCLK. It is unclear when this offer expires.

P.S. I tried this code on final sale merchandise and it worked- yey! :)

  1. 10%. Enough to cover shipping. When there are already free ship codes floating around. J Crew must believe they are marketing to the sub 100 IQ set.

  2. PRIVATESALEOCT should give 20% $175 or more til Oct 13 :)

  3. Does anyone know if the Rockaway store, or any other store that has 50% off sales items, carries the Super 120s Dress? http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WomenBrowse/Women_Shop_By_Category/suiting/super120s/PRDOVR~96109/99101507296/96109.jsp

    Thanks!

  4. This is so exciting, but I think I am going to try to hold out for a bigger discount tomorrow!

  5. Michelle,

I tried PRIVATESALEOCT and it did not work. I have over $175 of full price merchandise plus over $175 of sale merchandise...

yes this is a VERY BIG order!

    ReplyDelete
  6. shannon: That's so weird! It worked when I tried it earlier, and then I just tried it after I saw your comment, and it doesn't work now :(

    ReplyDelete
  7. I don't think the PRIVATESALEOCT code will work until tomorrow (and I really hope it does work tomorrow!).

    ReplyDelete
  8. Shannon & Michelle: I am not 100% sure, but I think the code PRIVATESALEOCT should work, starting tomorrow. :)

  9. alexis: Thanks Alexis! I wonder why I was able to try it earlier. I didn't check out, so maybe it wouldn't have let me. Who knows anymore! Either way I have kept all my buying to stores, because I am still skeptical about the web store.

  10. When do the new holidays items hit the website?

    ReplyDelete
  11. FabulousFloridaMommy, you're welcome! I wish they would have better discount codes, but at least this is something. I was hesitant to wait on a couple of items because my size sells out so quickly, so I'd rather get the 10% + my student discount than not have it at all.

    ReplyDelete
  12. five tomatoes - how did you get 10% + your student discount? Did you do this online? I thought you could only use the student discount in the store.

    ReplyDelete
  13. danielle, I email J.Crew from my .edu email and ask to have the discount applied to my order. It always works, although sometimes they are silly and do it as a gift card rather than an account credit.

    ReplyDelete
  14. five tomatoes, do you email them right after you place your order or wait until it ships...thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Does anyone know the in-store discount on sale items right now? I went to the Georgetown store on Monday and there was none...

    ReplyDelete
  16. Oh, and anon, I always email right after I order.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I email right after I order - the one time I waited was one of the times I got a gift card rather than an account credit.

I was in Mayfair (Wauwatosa, WI) this weekend and the in store discount was 20% on final sale and I believe they also had some "secret sales" going.

    ReplyDelete
  18. amy and five tomatoes: this may seem "dumb" but what do you say in your emails exactly when you ask for the student or educator's discount...I have had good luck and bad luck getting the discount from my school act. Once again...different CS reps that answer the emails. Thanks a ton:)

  19. Hi ladies!

Just wanted to give a quick review of the Wool-Cashmere Dana coat I just received (in Camel).

It was packed in a big gift box with the cream colored ribbon around it, in tissue paper but not in any plastic, with a black hanger bag and the little bag of cedar balls enclosed. Nice presentation!

However, the material looked almost a little ratty, and was not as smooth as I had anticipated. Nice color, but was apprehensive about the fabric.

I am a 2 top and bottom, and my other JC coats are also a 2. The fit on the Dana was just... off. I know that the major complaint with JC's trench-style coats and jackets as of late is that they're too big in the torso. I found the Dana to have almost the opposite problem - that shirring across the shoulders in the back made it feel tight (and this is with a tissue tee underneath, so a heavier sweater would just not do). However, the bottom part of the coat was quite huge! It fit comfortably in the waist area, but then flared out and hit right at my knee (not at midthigh like the website description says - I'm about 5'5"). Overall, it looked like it was swallowing me, but then there's the problem of it being too small in the shoulders, so sizing down wouldn't have helped. Doesn't look like there's a petite option, either - this coat must have been pinned all over the place on the model in the catalog!

I'm quite disappointed, but not totally surprised given the weird sizing issues lately. This one's going back. Boo!

  20. I always just say, "Is it possible to use my student discount for order #_____? Thanks!" I have only had one person say no and countless say yes, but I am always scared of that changing!

    ReplyDelete
  21. OK. Placed an order earlier today so going to send the email now requesting my discount. Thanks, Amy and 5 Tomatoes:)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh, and PS - my coat did not have buttons at the cuffs as depicted in the picture on the website - Now give me THAT coat and I think I'd have better luck! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Another question - can you use the student discount in conjunction with another discount? I am thinking about the 20% off 175.

Being a "poor" doctoral student (with a bad shopping habit) - I need all the discount I can get!

Thanks for all the help so far! This is wonderful.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Anon: regarding the educator/student discount...I also email RIGHT AFTER ordering from my school address. I always say "please apply my educator's discount to order #...." and I've had good luck with doing that.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Danielle: I think it depends. I've gotten my educator's discount many times on top of another discount. Just send an email from your school account after you order; sometimes you may get a bad CSR who doesn't want to give it to you, but it should work. I've only been told "no" once, and after I emailed back saying if I had gone to a store, I would have gotten the discount with no problem, they gave me a credit.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Someone mentioned they sent and email and asked about using both discounts BEFORE they ordered...that is a safer way to request the discounts.....I have had 3 No's recently and one yes after placing orders in the past 3 weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  27. silver_lining: Thanks so much for the Dana review! I've been stalking that exact coat (in the 2 and in the Camel color) since it came out, but have already bought the Felicia and Tulip coat for the winter, so I was bascially just stalking it ... and then it was sold out in my size! I was bummed (I was on crack thinking it might ever go on sale!! ;) but this review makes me feel better about not getting it!! What a beautiful coat online - I'm sure you are so disappointed!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Do we know if the privatesaleoct code will be good on only full-price merch? or sale, too?

    ReplyDelete
  29. FYI- the sa at the lenox mall in atlanta told me today that the holiday rollout will be in their store next thurs!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Silver_Lining: Thanks for the great review of the coat! I actually made it into its own post here

    ReplyDelete
  31. silver_lining and lindsey b. - If you like camel cashmere blend coats, I recommend trying to get your hands on last year's Dani wool-cashmere coat. I got it and recommended it to some friends. We all adore it! The fit is perfect and it's soft as can be! The cashmere really goes a long way. I got camel but they had a couple of other colors. I actually got a 0 petite which really fit ideally, but I often can go with a non-petite if the shape is fitted - especially in a double-breasted design like the Dani.

I recently saw one on ebay in camel... But I think I came across it just by searching J.Crew coats, not by name.

  33. Yay! I'm already filling up my cart in anticipation of the coupon code that starts tomorrow!

Can anyone comment on the Metallic Herringbone Clea jacket? It looks so pretty in the picture and the sale price is good.

    Thanks!

  34. amy - tysons corner and reston both have 20% off final sale

    ReplyDelete
  35. 3-penny princess:
I bought it. Went for Simone and got houndstooth instead. I had to downsize from 4 to 2 and probably could have gone to 0. It's really nice fit and fabric wise.Very chic little jacket ( mine is black). I was at Tyson's today and they only had olive ones in sz 6,8, and 10.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Montgomery and Tyson's ( MD and VA, respectively) both have 20 % off

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thanks, slastena! Too bad I missed you at Tysons - I was thinking of going tomorrow. Well, I'm glad you mentioned the sizing issues with the Metallic Clea Herringbone - it being on final sale especially. Do you normally wear a 0-2 petite, or are you a 4? I'm a little worried now because I normally wear a 0 in jackets, so if you had to downsize and you don't normally wear a 0 in jackets, maybe it will be too loose. What to do...

    ReplyDelete
  38. Help please - so if coupon code starts Oct 10, what time of day does it start?? 12:00 am? 9:00 am? This sounds psycho but I need to order some BM dresses and there are only a couple left in the sizes I need in their inventory!

    ReplyDelete
  39. 3 penny princess:
I am so sorry, I just relaized we are talking about different jacket.
I meant this one(comes in black and buttercup):
Text Metallic bouclé houndstooth Clea jacket
Sorry for the confusion. I am normally 4 ( reg. not Petite),I am 5'5", found recently that I have to downsize on most of J Crew jackets/coats.

  40. Just a suggestion...
Can there be maybe one post with instructions for how to get discounts through e-mail after you place an order? It seems like every post's comments get clogged with requests and answers. It's a very important topic, and I think it might warrant its own post! That way, everyone would know where to look and we could keep comments in one area.

  41. OT- If I am a 6 in JC pants will a size 29 RALLY fit me comfortably in the matchstick jeans? TIA!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. anon, I am a size 6 in JC pants as well and I tried on the size 29 matchstick cords and I thought they fit fine. Of course, I only tried that size on, so I can't compare. Maybe the 28 would have worked, too. IDK I don't have much of a bum, and they were a little droopy in that area, so maybe a size smaller would be better. But as for the waist, the 29 fit just great. JMHO

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thank you math teacher!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Sorry OT -- isadore and 10NISNE1 - I have the giraffe day coat available in size 12. You both mentioned you were interested. Let me know if you are still are. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Anonymous @ 6:57 PM - I am a 4 or 6P and wear a 28 in the Matchsticks. I think you will like the 29s as stated by mathteacher.

mathteacher - Weren't you eyeballing the roasted tomato red capris? I got a pair yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Gigiofca:
we are same size and height.:)

    ReplyDelete
  47. gigiofca: that wasn't me. I have the roasted pepper favorite fit chinos. I do like them, although it's a strange red (strange = hard to describe). I actually have 2 pair of similar shaded red chinos, so I decided against that color in the capris. I have the orange (whatever they called it), the black (thanks to FFM), and the burnished moss. I keep tossing around ordering another color or two, but haven't yet. I'm going to Disney World next month, so I can't spend as much. Must save! :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. I just got Lucy heel for $33 including shipping off ebay! yea! as much as I'm happy about it, it was slightly suspiciously low price, but I guess I'll wait and see :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. mathteacher - I think that might have been blumre. Have fun at Disney World! I've been to Land but not World ;-).

slastena - We are the same size! now that I see the photo on your blog. I thought you were like 5'9" tall and ultra thin. *lol*

    ReplyDelete
  50. Anonymous - I've noticed that coupon codes start after midnight (I'm in central time) before. I also see the 20% or 30% off final sale items go up after midnight, hours before the emails go out. Hope this helps!

  51. i don't know if any one remembers an anon raving about rhubarb ecole and the ruffle henley, well, i just want to express again, how much i love the ruffle henley. so i was able to get the plum from the store, and right after i giot home, i ordered the kelly and the blue color, can't remember the name right now off the website, i was quite concerned about the colors when i ordered...and acouple days after that i ordered a white one that popped up online. so, today, i got both of my orders. much to my surprise, instead of white, i got a dk slate. and i LOVED the blue and the green, even though they looked so bright, don't get me wrong they are still bright but they look awsome when i tried themn on with blk pants and jeans. so now they are doing a store serach for the white one for me since they screwed up, and if they do find it, then i would have this top in 5 ocolors, yes, i love it that much that i would even order the blk should it become available, so i have a complete set. alrgiht, i've got issues, but seriously this henley fits sooo awsome!!!! if you haven't already, definitely go and try it, it's worth the $$.

    ReplyDelete
  52. anon @ 9:43: i love the ruffle henleys, too. Bought one in plum and wish i had bought more in other colors. They fit so nicely and are ultra soft. I hope they aren't fragile though. Loving mine so much i washed it in a hand-wash cycle just in case. :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. cleo: i'm the anon at 9:43. you should so get it in the other colors, they are all very nice, don't u just love the fit and the ruffles? the cotton is so soft and it drapes nicely without clinging to your body too much. i am obsessed with them! seriously obsessed. i hope they will hold up cuz i would be heartbroken if they don't as i plan on wearing them a whole lot...

    ReplyDelete
  54. Yes, i so love the fit. My fav colors are white and dark slate. I would even spring for it in black. Wish my size were available at the b&m or online.

I got the plum one on final sale and 20% off. Great deal! I sometimes wear it with (surprisingly) the martinique-print cafe capri or tie it across my shoulders when i'm wearing a pink tee. Yep, i like a lot of color. :)

    ReplyDelete
  55. gigiofca-thanks re the matchstick sizing!

  56. Mack -
I would love to purchase the giraffe day coat. You can email me at ishop2much@alaska.net

  57. Just a heads up. The herringbone fiona jacket in both the rhubarb and the sweet potato color are on sale in store for $89.99 with an add't 20% off. Online the sweet potato color is $150 and the rhubarb is $129.99 I saw them at the Walnut Creek store this afternoon and they had plenty of sizes in the sweet potato. I went in to look at the snow leopard jacket and of course they didn't have it.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Cleo26 - I also washed my ruffle henley on gentle and air dried it. The ruffles still look great. I'm a ruffle nut.

    anon @ 10:23 - You're welcome :-)

    ReplyDelete
  59. another heads up- the colored patent flats and juliet heels are on sale in store(lenox store atlanta)! plus addtl 20% off!

    ReplyDelete
  60. FYI - I just was at the South Coast Plaza store and they had the Astrid jacket with ruffle on sale for $179.99 plus the extra 20% off = $143.99. They had a few sizes left.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I didn't really want to say it, but this coupon is kind of crap. No, I'm not spoiled, I'm purchasing their clothing dammit . . . but this is a bit of a poor attempt of trying to pry money from my hands. I mean, 10% . . . really? That's $10 off a $100 item. I can't even buy a decent lunch in NY with that. Boo JC. Boo.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I actually like the 3 current coupons, it is something for everyone, $100.00, $150.00 or $175.00. There is nothing wrong with the 10%, if used for a small order it is better than nothing.
